I'm not thrilled about this. I bought the Nokia CA-75 cable, plugged it in, then realized that the TV out option was missing. LAME.

I won't hold my breath for the TV out feature. The phone never said it had it or would have TV out. If it's that important you could get the captivate for AT&T. I left At&T service is bad in L.A. since the iPhone came out.

Im gunna guess itll be enabled with the 2.2 update when we get the real touchwiz 3.0
thats just a guess though

I would guess no. Samsung and Spint have said on the record they are aiming for Froyo in Nov-Dec. The consortium to go with HDMI our vi micro usb is hoping for first q 2011 (read march earliest).
Epic has many advantages, but is not a good multimedia export choice IMHO.

How do you figure that? Galaxy S devices play more video codecs than any other Android device on the market including .mkv file and even display the subtitles when embedded. In fact the only thing it seems to not be able to do is 5.1 sound in an mkv file (it does them in xvid, divx and avi though.)
Someone mentioned that they were able to play a 1080p file on it. I haven't tried that one myself but 720 certainly works. I personally want the NTSC video out capability very much and hope someone gets the source to enable it in a future update or ROM or whatever.

By embedded do you mean if they are burned onto the video? Because any device will play subtitles like that. The epic does not play most if any subtitles natively. If someone wants to really play subtitles it will require mvideoplayer from the market.
Man, I didn't realize that 5.1 audio was supported in an avi I am gonna have to give that a try. AAC audio?

Yep. According to some other forums. About the subtitles, you are correct that mvideoplayer (which seems to be the only one) will play the subtitles in the mkv files. BUT....I can't find anything to play the 5.1 sound. Which is really disappointing because if I can pull most of my files at around 2gb at 720p (has to be less than 4gb because of the FAT32 size limitation) they still have 5.1 ... so I get NO sound. I have to then stereo downmix I guess to fix this..but who wants to convert every single video file just to play on a phone. Also, I want to output this..but I can't of course because TV out is missing...until Touchwiz 3.0 is enabled hopefully.
My next quest is to get USB OTG working (USB host), but I would still be limited by the Fat32 file system.

TCPMP **** Why Still in Beta ????????? ************

I think Tcpmp Player is the best thing out there -- Honest Opinion.
Just wondering with all the plugins out there why is it still in Beta?
I mean .081 --- Is it possible for someone to finish it off and come up with a 1.0 ???
They did. It is called The Core Player and is a commercial app now.

Welcome to the club. -_-
Even with the new coreplayer update, it's still much better.
TCMP is cool and the only reason why Coreplayer would be interesting is the GPU Support (for my KS20), Better Decoding-Speed (GPU?) and Youtube-Integration. Who cares about a nicer UI and a few more small functions comapred to tcmp and this for 25$? At least not me.
Second that
Also TCPMP can use subtitles and the core player can not

Anybody know how to play MIDI files on TCPMP?

Will WP7 play WMV or DivX files?

Sorry, I had to ask. It's not something I've heard mentioned, and before coming to WM6.5 from Symbian, I simply assumed it could play WMV (and DivX) files.
Does anyone have any insight into this seemingly simple question?

you forgot about it ending world poverty and opening up a communication channel with aliens.
edit - ah wait, thats wp8, my mistake.
ZuneHD supports wmv and xvid* so I would assume yes!
*Sorry, no divx yet.
Sorry, I wasn't being sarcastic. Am I the only person in the the world who thinks that a windows mobile product should be able to play windows media files?

dude what's your problem bro? Our friend here is inquiring about WM7, not 8! Please don't misled our friend about the mystical WM8.
and besides, WM7 comes in 5 different flavors, and one of them will have ending world poverty function as well as IM chat with aliens from the Andromeda galaxy (which so happens to be the name of HTC's next, next, next super phone).
Coincidence?! I think not.

WM6.5 can play WMV files. I would be very surprised if WP7 can't. Divx and xvid are less certain, but I think I heard somewhere that Zune has recently acquired support for those formats, so I think there's hope.
???

It plays xvid but not perfect.

Playing avi files on The slide?

haha. yeah, plays avi files great. The free trial version is on the market, beware, the trial sucks, limits you to 2 min, has ads, the control bar won't go away.
But using the free version will show you if it can play the types of files you are looking for. The pay version actually works really well, no glitches.
You can also try rock player, plays almost any file...
i use handbrake to convert
Rock player plays almost all files. Try it.

720p on HD2

I would work on 720p for HD2 but before that i need some info on HD2
1. How do u substitute for the radio.img on native android phones as they play an important part in DSP
2. what camera libs do u use for liboemcamera.so and libcamera.so. Which phone are they from.
3. Are devs using the latest venc, vdec drivers in their kernel or are they using the one before froyo rolled out for nexus one. The new drivers encode faster.
these are my 3 questions for now, may ask more when i know the answer to these. I dont have a HD2 so i need either a tester or a phone to test on. I would prefer a tester.
Look forward to see your work can done soon!!
Thanks for your effort, lets keep it up!!!

Oh my! Charan Singh did excellent job for the Nexus and the HTC Dream!!! Now the 720p is definitely going to be a possibility with his involvement! Woot!
You should join htc-linux and htc-linux-chat IRC channels. The devs are about to fixs the camera and implement 720p. So please join, your help will be greatly appreciated.
Oh charn, wellcome to our house.
Our dream is a 720p full working camera on Desire HD,Z builds.....would make HD2 the best machine in last years on geek world.

720p playback is silly, why waste so much power when your screen cant cope with the resolution? besides coreplayer on android will probably play 720p mkv in a few weeks
gl chan
there are players that can play 720p mkv files but the issue is that they don't support neocore acceleration for 720p mkv and that's why they play slow. In addition, if you have all your videos as 720p mkv, then it is necessary! I don't want to mess with conversion and etc.
Tweeted a link to this thread in hopes someone knows this info. everyone should do the same please. Perhaps drop the link in htc-linux-chat on irc?

First i must say, i like very much Nexus One!
But for us, who have a wm device, but able to have Droid smooth and the possibility to have in curt future, WP7s will turn HD2 in a amazing machine in geek scene.
Saw the numbers in XDA Portal page.
Like I said I appreciate Nexus geek scene too.

this commit doesnt do anything for 720p. U need the code in for 720p. Just making a config with 720p wont do. Also i need to know the camera model in HD2. If its similar to Nexus One then u guys are in for a party as i recently did a lot of research on camera.
One thing, y are u guys using msm_camera as the driver. If u guys know the camera model and have drivers for it use that. There are many devices with 5mpx camera, camera could be similar. The greatest chance of similarity is with nexus one. So try using native drivers for hardware that has to perform. U should use common drivers for stuff like flash etc but not for camera, screen etc

do any custom ROMs include native divX/Xvid?

my gt540 is still on the original 1.6 and i really want to move to a custom ROM. however, i can't stand rockplayer and the main reason i got the phone was for the native divx/xvid playback.
are there any custom ROMs that include this feature? i have yet to find any that do tackle this (although the 'Oxygen' ROM seems to suggest "codecs" are working - not entirely sure if that's what i'm looking for).
i really do need to move from 1.6 though. it's unbearable!
any help/advice welcome

lg made official 2.1 update..
and all 2.1 Custom Roms do support it aswell because they are based on the official one.
i can't imagine that oxygen rom supports it
yes, i think it's unlikely seeing as no other ROM seems to have tackled it. i'm just curious what "codecs" in the features list means if not divx though.
i should have mentioned, i want to move from 1.6 to either 2.2 or 2.3. but if no ROM can support divx, i guess i'll end up with 2.1 after all.
