The joy of HD2 - HD2 General

I have had my HD2 for almost a week now. And I can write without reservation, that this is without doubt, the best phone I've ever owned! I'm still getting to grips with it, but enjoying every new discovery! Xda have really opened my eyes to exactly what this amazing bit of kit can do.

Most people do not experience your problems.
CHT is partially known for its "bugs"
Also a good "Fall cleanup" (as opposed to spring-cleanup ) could help you.
You could also try a factory reset if the problem persists (backup your data before resetting )
Also could be HTC-Peep is the root of your problems....
But do not start complaining in a topic while you have issues which need to be handled in another topic.
The phone was fine before? Lets try to restore it to thet state.... keep positive.

ok - my interest in the HD2 is very high!! This phone looks absolutely terrific
and has amazing specs.
i am looking for some basic knowledge here on the recently releases HD2 Phones.
i have ATT as my carrier and I'm not looking to change to T-Mobile. I am happy with ATT. i am looking at purchasing the HTC H2 9193 unlocked with support for the ATT 850MHz 3G band. my understanding is that this is a "clean" version of the HD2 Austrailian Telstra phone without all of the bloatware thrown into it. HTC (on their own website) is calling this their HTC HD2 US phone (see htcphones website, product model HTC_TOUCH_HD_2_NAM). HTC sells this phone for around $830.
It appears that the above phone is also the identical model that Amazon (and others) are selling as the HTC Hd2 T9193 (many sell it for around $800 and $730 is the lowest I've seen it) - but I have not seen HTC describe the "model" as the T9193.
These are NOT the T-Mobile HD2 US phones either - as the the T-Mobile version doesn't appear to have support for the 850 MHz ATT G3 band.
Can someone (an expert) please confirm what I've stated here. The HD2 T9193 looks to be the same as the HTC HD2 US - and it's more expensive than the T-Mobile version. This looks like the phone that I want however - seems like it has everything!!
thanks in advance - John

I've so far installed CHT & editor, TCPMP, Wifi remote access, BSB tweeks, NETCFv35, AgileNotes & HTC flashlight. And so far, not a single crash.

Don't mind xirokx, enjoy your HD2. This phone has immensely grown on me since I first purchased it back in January, once you get this bad boy customized to your likings you will enjoy it even more.
Happy flashing

Dual-Boot HTC HD2 Windows Mobile/Android

Hey I am new to flashing. I have changed the roms on g1's, and on the nexus one per different youtube vidoes and stuff i have read in this forum.
Yesterday i purchased the HD2 and to my horror found out that it was running on Windows Mobile (WTF). So i have been loking around and I saw that in the past the forum has been able to get Touch Pro 2 that run on WM6.5 to dual boot into android.
So I am hoping that the same can be done with the HD2. So is the HSPL2 listed in this forum the beginning steps to this process or what? Has anyone yet setup the HD2 to run on android?
I know this is wordy but I just want to make it understood that I am new and I want to learn and that I have the desire to get android on my HD2.
thanks any suggested reading is welcome as the steps to get android on this awesome phone that HTC FUBAR'd with WM6.5
The HD2 cannot run android at this time.

No, it's not quite there at this time. However, while I understand your opinion, I don't think HTC "FUBAR'd" at all. I've had a few Android devices and this phone is AMAZING, even with WM.
this has been discussed already at length.. if you look in the ROMS section of the forum you'll find it ..
And it is NOT going to happen soon..
Android on the HD2 will be amazing! Hopefully they can get it ported by summer to compete with the HTC EVO.

i believe that is the plan to see how the EVO goes.. but here's the link to the other thread..

...this is not true,
There is an engineer at the local Tmobile call center dual booting Android and winmo. He runs Android off of the card itself. The phone that is dual booting is at the kiosk at the LaPlaza mall in Mcallen TX and has been used as their demo phone.
How is he doing it? I have no idea, but hes told myself and a Tmobile sales buddy that he'll help us out with it.
So, you purchased the phone without realizing its a WM phone, and have the balls to complain, all because you didnt read, and now are asking if you can put android on it...lazy much?
I suppose you want someone to flash it for you too, or better yet start another thread asking how to do that...
Didn't you see the windows mobile on the box...

You're saying he's booting android on a hd2? I doubt it. Are you sure its not a TP2? There is an andriod port for the TP2.
I'm not sure how you purchased the phone without knowing the underlying OS, but I'm guessing you bought it in the US for Tmobile. If that is the case, and I'm guessing it is, then you can't flash any ROMs for it yet because of the different SPL.

I seriously doubt this. Maybe you had it confused with an HD or a TP2, but I doubt xda wouldn't know about this...especially since it's most likely to originate here. A picture to prove this would be great, but I don't expect it.

News to me! I've seen it running on other devices, but even then it's beta, with various functionality still unavailable, WIFI etc.
If you wanted Android, a little research before hand should and would have been wise, i.e. waiting for the EVO to be released.
I like WinMo 6.5. It may not be as pretty as Android or iPhone OS (without the Sense gui which is quite lovely imho) but it's a very versatile and an incredibly powerful tool in the hands of the right user. If you're in a business environment, using Microsoft equipment, exchange servers etc, there is not an more efficient handheld device to carry in you pocket (again, imho).

Will You Stick With Your HD2?

Hey guys, I know many of us just got out T-Mobile branded HD2's on the 24th.
T-Mobile offers a return within 15 days.
Are you going to keep your HD2? Did WinMo scare you off?
Are you going to trade it for some snapdragon android?
yes yes yes this phone is ten times better than what i expected it to be.... compared to my g1, this is heaven.
except when it freezes randomly for a couple seconds unexpectedly...
I have had WM thru my last 3 phones (Dash, TP2, now HD2) I will be keeping my HD2 and LOVE WM

My coverage in the Twin Cities was terrible, even though on the maps, it was "Fast Mobile Web" all over. Edge 95% of the time, 5% 3G. Great phone, but kinda worthless on Edge, just shipped it back. Ordered a Telstra one.

Also, coming from G1. Still getting used to WM.
Wasn't thrilled the first few days, but that was just due to the learning curve. I'm now aware of how customizable WM is, which is great. So many ROM's, so many skins means that we can dial in our phones (no pun intended) the way we want them to be.
The screen and responsiveness on this thing is what is keeping me on it more than anything, though. Plus, I love the HTC music player, photo and video player, and calender. Great looking apps.

just noticed the new section for tmo-us.
I don't like the looks of the custom roms so far...we'll se in the future.
I'm so in between right now.
I was at the TMo store and googled if the HD2 was getting WinMo7 and the first few links said yes, so I bought it (impulse buy, I was there to change my calling plan).
I really was going to get a Nexus One because I like Android but as other posters have said, after the WinMo learning curve, again (this is NOT the first WM phone I've had) I am in between.
This has an amazing screen, hands down. But really, that's where the differences end for me (besides WM and Android)
-Both have XDA devs and their amazing custom roms
-Both have (well HD2 will have) a huge following
Tough call. I miss my apps on the iPhone but that's all I miss with it. Where are my updated RTS games? Or a good (and cheap) TD game for WM6.5?

Yes, but man... does it cost an arm and a leg.
I'm definitely keeping it, I'm using international HD2 in UK
Through my experiences in the old days with Hero and 3GS, I got bored really quick with android and iphone os, but not with HD2/Winmo now. I found myself to be kind of loving to tweak my phone. I love the open-source and customizations of Winmo, still finding a lot to do with my HD2.
However, I really miss some apps and games from android or iphone os, such as: Plants vs Zombies, Angry Birds, Layar Reality Browser and especially Tunewiki. I heard a winmo version of Tunewiki is in developing process, hope it will come soon.

misc. things about hd2

hey everyone, nice to meet you all, been lurkin' these forums since i got my t-mobile dash on its release day.
but anyways i've got a few questions and comments
what is the most popular and most highly supported custom rom? would it be Kumars? - what roms are the fastest?
-i have bsb tweaks and c00kie on my phone. my phone will 'wake' on a new text and if i try to unlock it before i get the notification (but after it waking) it'll freeze up. its pretty exasperating
-is it my fault? i'm almost always constantly on my phone and it seems that every phone i ever own tends to lag or lock up from time to time, i wonder if im.. 'doing too much' with it.. but i wouldn't expect such a powerful phone as this..

I think energyrom might be the most popular. I would suggest searching youtube for HD2 ROM review, or something like that. You'll see a couple reviews showing each and you'll be able to decide for yourself.

No, it's not your fault, it happens to the best of us. BTW, the lighter ROMs like energy seem to do less of that than the stock. I think it's kind of like buying a PC with a bunch of bloatware, a lean OS always runs faster and more stable.
On the same vain, I have a Droid, a 3gs and the HD2, and I must say the HD2 lags and freezes the most, followed by the Droid and the the Iphone is the most stable, even after jail-breaking and modifying it extensively. I attribute this to the tight integration of the OS and hardware, unlike Android and WiMo which have different OS and Hardware manufacturers, and thus leads to bloat and incompatibilities.

Anyone know how to make opera load mobile versions of sites like youtube? Every time I check the setting to load mobile sites, it loads a funky version of the site. It will not actually load the mobile site as I can see it's not in the URL. I can type in the URL "www.m.youtube.com" but it never does it by default. Is there a setting to set in the opera config to fix this? My main reason for fixing is I would love to have youtube links sent to me in email open the youtube app but it requres the mobile version of youtube to load in opera.

Is there much point getting one now?

I'm thinking of buying the HTC HD2 but is there much point now, if it won't be getting updated and newer and better phones are coming out?
I'm looking at it as it has the biggest screen(besides the streak which im also considering, but much more expensive)

Over the last couple of years, ive only used the bold 9000, HTC Desire and iPhone 4, however i sent back the iphone 4 as the ui is getting very boring.
I use the phone more for texts and internet than phone, i primarily want to use it for web browsing, thats why the streak appealed to me, but this is cheaper, im just worried about updates, and the lack of official support after WP7

I can't wait until the end of 2010 i have no phone at present lol. Also im in the UK so the Evo is a no go otherwise i would definitely have it.
if you like bets, get one now.
If the bet goes well, you will buy a "cheap" device which will get a fully functional froyo OS on it when the android devteam has completed the job, and be almost at the level of the Evo, without its bulkiness... and before the thing goes out and the demand increases, making the prices go higher.
If the bet goes bad, you still get a cheap but powerful device with WM on it
Anyway, given my experience with the device, and the market which is available for italy, I would get it again now as well.

Try before you buy my friend.
I've been using winmo for years and I love it. The HD2 is my favorite device yet.
Winmo users generally love to tweak. These forums make tweaking fun and you can usually get whatever you need, want and more for your phone if you're willing to search for it.
That being said, some find winmo and the HD2 an utter frustration. Some lament about buying the HD2 because it doesn't do everything right out of the box.
So if you like to customise, tweak and experiment, you may just love the HD2.
If you like something that works to it's full potential right out of the box, but may not be quite so custimisable and tweakable, perhaps another platform would be better.
i really NEVER recommend ppl a windows phone.. except i know that he can handle it.
i dont know u, so i would recommend android
u NEED to know what u do when u are using winmo, or u will hate it
The more I read about WM7, the more I am glad I have a WM6.5 phone, and I'm not planning to 'upgrade' to such a locked down platform.

I love the idea of registry tweaks, which may sound weird, and i also love the idea of a winmo device being just like windows on the pc (regarding registry tweaks).
And regarding having everything work out of the box, i find that very boring, im always looking to do new things with a phone.
The only problem i am seeing is the future updates, looking at Android they are going to have constant updates, but obviously winmo 6.5 is not. however if i know that winmo will be getting unofficial updates from devs etc i will be more than happy to buy the HD2.
Thanks for all the replies so far.
Ok, i went ahead and bought a HD2, hopefully i'll enjoy it.
Please post your experiences with the phone.
And how much did you grab it for? US or non?
if you need big screen then definitely go for hd2. i was in your position. but screen size was a dealbreaker. had there one android phone with screen as big as this, i wouldn't have bought hd2

Yes, the screen was probably the main reason for buying this phone.

i have to say i agree about the screen.. i have a hd2 and my friend got a desire soon after me.. the screen estate difference is just HUGE...
and i recently ran the android test build side by side with his phone screen beside mine.. the difference just got worse coz the widget icons are much smaller in android compared to the quick link icons in winmo..

Awesome, i cant wait for my HD2 now .
I was getting sick of the headaches after surfing the web on my iPhone 4 due to the small screen.
good choice.....
you made a good choice op. hd2 is my first wm phone and i'll admit, i love it. the tweaking on the phone is good fun. at the moment im running CHT and SPB Mobile Shell side by side as well as having loads of other little tweaks to make the phone my own. theres a ton of really good apps and software floating about the net.
The only bad point i can think of is Opera's non support of 10.1 for wm6.5. Skyfire's pretty usefull for flash though so all's not lost. i'm sure you will love your new phone bud......

Questions for new HD2

Just got a new HD2 for 180$ brand new with just the computer connection and a rubber protector.....everything else including the only other thing I wanted the SD card wasnt included.
Was this a good deal?
I am also looking into straight custom roming this phone....have a TP2 custom romed and with geny with android.
3 questions.
1.I am not use to the snap dragon yet.....I overclocked the tp2 yet the snap dragon makes it seem like molasses...will a custom rom make the HD2 slower or will it actually increase?
2. Which is the most stable ROm out now?
3.Are there any overclockers?
That was a really good price for a HD2.
I am not aure bit I think some of the custom ROMs slightly overclock, but over all the custom ROMs run a lot better and faster on the HD2.
All the custom ROMs are pretty much very stable in my opinion.
I do not knpw of a actual overclock app for Wimdows Mobile maybe someone else can help you out there.
Thanks for the info!
I already HSPL'd and put the dinik rom onto my phone but when all the craze was getting a overclock on the tp2 I heard someone say that the HD2 already had a overclocker..
I'll keep looking around.
Thanks.

Frankly, I never try it
I dont need to overclock, most custom roms are already blazing fast
T-mac
Yeah I can understand what you mean but there seems to be a difference between the Leo and the TMo HD2 which never made sense to me.
I'll look through the thread and see if it does work.

Yeah the HD2 is one of the fastest phones I've had due to the snapdragon ...it makes my TP2 even overclocked feel super slow haha.
I just want to check out the overclocker to see how faster it would actually become, faster is usually a good thing. haha.
IF you guys have any other tips for the HD2 please feel free to post....I just custom romed it and thats about it....well and putting slacker on there.
it's really cheap buy it!!!i bought my used hd2 for 1100 TL (about 700$)

I knew I got a good deal but I didnt know it was that bad to buy.
I called T-mo here and they said no contract it would be around 500.

Anyone ever find out if that overclocker works with the tmo hd2?

About overclocking...
Taking into account how much a mainboard for HD2 costs and how many of them were destroyed by overheating, I want to warn you, beware of overclocking, Snapdragon is fast enough without any overclocking
pvii-
Yeah I see that some people have been having problems with overheating the more topics I have been reading so I might not even overclock till later down the line.

Jeez 10% in just tax! Online shopping is becoming alot better.
