Let us talk to Samsung - Vibrant General

Hey guys, like all of you I am a proud owner of Vibrant and love it for its fantastic hardware - beautiful screen, fast processor, quality camera, sleek look and so on..I know most of us are a bit disappointed with Samsung implementing the dated RFS file system on Galaxy S(as RyanZA has enlightened us). We really appreciate what he and other hardcore developers here and elsewhere have done to work around the lag issue and provide us with few fixes. But we know these are not long term solution and also not perfect. Nothing would be like Samsung rolling out an updated firmware to fix it. Something like this would require lot of testing and QA to ensure phone will work stable under all conditions for prolonged time. Only Samsung has the money and resources to do it (I do not intend to disregard the work of independant developers, they are doing fantastic job given their constraints).
I am sure Samsung is aware of the lag issue, but couldn't find anything in the web about official response about fixing it.
Is it possible that we submit a joint petition to samsung and try to get an official response? I do not know how to contact them, but i hope someone reading this thread will know.

Goodluck my friend.

you win the internet today

When you get a hold of Samsung, patch me through to the conference call. Also, when you have that petition formed out, fax a copy to my assistant. Include a cover page and make sure you put VERY IMPORTANT in the memo space.

The problem is, your asking on the wrong forums...
Xda god bless 'em, are a HTC only forums, and although the hacking and dev forum is a good read they are not really in the Samsung fan club...
Try here instead....

Sorry to link to another forum.... only trying to help..
More specifically... http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-omnia-http-i900-modaco-com/273151/change-colors-samsung-menus/
And you should have posted in the "Official Omnia" thread under off-topic as this is a development and hacking forum ...
As already stated this is HTC land and much as I would like to help I have a HTC not an Omnia and dont have a clue.
However check out the link below,
http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.php
Its free software that works on both platforms and lets you easily change skins.
It works great but you have to buy SPB Mobile Shell that it works with but you can get a 15 day trial for free. Its well worth a look if you dont want to learn to much and want to try loads of skins.

Hope this helps

HTC-land?
Is the complete xda-developer.com a "htc-land".
Damn!
I thought it was primarily a "windows mobile-land" and definitly not a specific "htc-land".
Sorry guys.
My mistake. Just a pity that I'm not a HTC-owner but a samsung Omnia-owner.
Don't worry guy's I won't disturb the peace in "htc-land" any more..
Krasse signing off...

Hi all, I'm an Admin from a large Sony Ericsson based forum and blog (www.se-nse.net) and we're currently expanding our horizons to cover Android a lot more.
I'm also an xda-developers user but clearly I don't post quite as much over here. I hope that this topic is acceptable though.
We're looking to get some Android developers about the place for both software development and technical knowledge on the forum if interested. se-nse is currently a great resource for modding of SE handsets and we hope to create a similar community for Android within the same site.
So if you know your Android stuff and are interested in joining our project please get in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Mik
I'm holding my breath for some Android devs to work on both sites as well...
B/C I am holding my breath for the xperia! The SE US website lists the X10a for North America with ATT 3g bands. So, I'm hoping the X10 will be the first ATT Android device.
In which case I will definitely be getting one AND I WILL NEED MY ROOT!
I'll still keep my G1 for dev purposes! So, I won't be abandoning XDA!
Hey Mik,
I used to frequent the se-nse forum during the w800 days, I'd be most glad to assist you with your project if time permits, however do you need a modder, a native developer, a kernel hacker or a Java developer?
Regards,
Akshay
Well community wise we'll hopefully end up with all of those but specifically we're looking for a developer to build an Android app for se-nse.
I'm thinking something along the lines of a news reader for the blog and the ability to login, read PM's and change profile details from the phone. Setting a new avatar using the phones camera would be particularly nice I think.
Mik
Excellent, is it a group effort? Count me in, although if its just me working on it I dont know how much time I can dedicate to it until the 4th of December, I'm a bit busy till then, giving a talk at droidcon London.
Definitely a group effort as long as there are enough people wanting to be involved.
I'll happily lend ideas and do the testing but I know nothing about programming what so ever
Still looking for more developers to join the community and help out with our app development. Anyone who's interested please let me know or just head over to the forum topic linked in the first post
Mik
ahh se-ense.net. I remember that from when i used to mod my k750i.
Good times.
anyway, i'll probably start using both sites, as i'm planning on getting the X10 when it's released.
Maybe it'll need an audio hack, who knows

Does anyone think that ROM chefs aren't very innovative?

I posted this thread just because i am kinda disappointed with HD2 rom selection, as i am hardcore rom flasher. Don't get me wrong, i like all chefs and i'm not taking sides. If you don't like the thread don't flame me, but u can report it to be deleted if you wish. Otherwise read on
As comparison i took roms of my previous phone, Samsung Omnia. If you look at their thread http://www.modaco.com/category/368/i900-general-omnia-rom-discussion/ you can well enough see that after 2.5 years rom development is still kicking!
Every chef shows alot of dedication to rom, they build up their own interfaces, new looks etc. Every rom is unique, and i'm afraid we don't have this with HD2.
And yes, i know about dinik, but if there are more people using it then stock, it isn't as unique, don't u think...
In short summary, i'd just want to see some more young enthusiastic chefs (like sanjeev, maybe) so not every rom thread goes: ...sense 2016 CFC'd..GTX/Black..dinik iconset...
you can also post your experience or prove me wrong sorry to waste 3min of your life..
edit: will try to post some pictures to prove my point

Maybe you make your own ROM to share with us and give us a better choice?
Not sure i entireley agree with you.
Most chefs actually think about the user more than you probably think. So by providing a really fast, yet stock looking rom, you, the user, can add your own customisations that you deem necessary.
However, when you are talking about everybody using the same customisations, it's also down to the user. For example, im sure many of you use Dinik's icons/mods etc. So if it was built into the rom, it would be ready out of the box. No need to install all of the mods over and over again.
I dont think they're not being innovative, but infact providing what you need. I would be gutted if i spent a hell of a lot of time making a whole theme for my phone, only to realise people complain about it or just install other mods over it.

actually, i tried, but it turned out to be crap xD slow and laggy.
again, i'm not dissin' anyone, just saying! i like rom chefs a lot, and i know how much job gets into making a proper rom-as i said i tried and failed miserbly.
and i didn't mention i heavily customize almost every rom i try, unless it has something new to try. It's nice to build up your own config, but hey, sometimes it feels really nice to see someone stand out (as dinik did in beginning, and then GTX -and now mostly everyone likes these)
well i better shut up now i guess

This phone is great.

Can I just say that this phone is great. Samsung really made me happy. I have some of the issues on these forums but consider them quite minor given the benefits the phone allows me.
It's by far and away the best phone i've used. And i'd like to think I have played with/owned most of them, except the latest nokias.
For all the troubles people are reporting there aren't enough of us saying how great it is.
Lets not forget though that the people on this forum also need thanks as they're the ones helping to fix most of the SGS2 troubles some are reporting. Bravo.
I feel that the troubles people are experiencing are minor. Which is great as it means Samsung really put on a good show from day one if all people are complaining about are what I would consider minor usability issues.
At this rate i'll be moving from recommending HTC's latest handsets as the top tier to Samsung.
Agree
By far the best phone I've ever used. Before I got this I had Nexus S for 2 months which I sold for a LG Optimus 2X which lasted just 5days. Lots of positves & the few negatives are pretty minor. A bargain too as I got it on the O2 contract with the cashback deal.
Seems to be quite future proof as well, looks like I might be keeping this one for the full 2yr contract.
this thing blows away everything else to an exponential degree and also agree i can use this for 2 years and am very happy keeping it insured
this phone is great
agree the potential is mind boggling cant wait for roms and themes etc to start
Nice try. .
Best phone that i've ever owned
GPS works great
wifi works great
screen looks great
form factor is awesome
solid construction
best performing portable devices i've ever owned
It makes me want to have sex with it.

I am afraid the vibration feature is too weak due to the miniature form factor.
Also please be careful not to get stuck in the Micro SD card slot, I have heard enough of these stories from my surgeon friend.
yeap agree with everything the op said.this phone dominates.i was going to keep my sgs as a toy but after my sgs2 arrived i didnt touch it again haha.i remember reading all the tech sites, everyone worrying about dual cores chewing battery etc.all i have to say is that my batt life is the same doing the same things it just does it faster.cheers sammy.4th product in a row i bought from them.(wave.sgs.tv.sgs2)

HTC officially dissolves locked bootloader policy

Oh wow, so HTC is actually listening to consumers? I didn't think companies did that anymore... Kudos HTC, very awesome.
HTC is just on fire these days huh? This is pretty awesome!
Just saw the Engadget article. This is why I love HTC over Motorola, Samsung, etc. They listen.
Lord only knows what the community will be able to do with a dual core unlocked device . Hopefully, sometime down the line, VZW will get one. My upgrade still isn't for another year anyway. So by then, I expect to see some pretty awesome stuff.
That is freaking awesome! I was thinking my next phone wouldn't be an HTC (which sucks cause I love my incredible) but its on now.

thanks to everyone who brought this to their attention
I wasn't going to buy another HTC phone after hearing about the EVO 3D but, this just changed my mind.
terrific, i will stick with my HTC verizon g2!
great work HTC......another reason why i love you!
samesies...
Does this mean they will unlock the phones they already locked or just for future phones?

Would this mean that HTC phones would be able to be rooted easily or no root would be needed... I have no Dev skills that's why i ask..
Well you'll still need to root, but you can install new ROM's easily with an unlocked bootloader, and without a lot of painful work.
For us Incredible users, we've been pretty lucky to have the "unrevoked" program that automates the whole process- but a lot of other phones have to go through some pretty annoying and difficult steps in order to be able to flash ROM's.
I've also heard that Motorola has jumped on the unlocked bootloader bandwagon, after HTC announced they would be doing it.
All good news, big props to HTC for listening to customers and making the move.
Also another article if anyone is interested in reading more into the story:
http://www.softsailor.com/news/8094...ature-an-unlocked-bootloader-from-now-on.html
If HTC sticks to this policy and the carriers don't get all pissy with policies on rooted/rom'd phones on their network, I'll never buy another device unless it says HTC on it... Good move, HTC. The phones, after all, BELONG to us.
I love it.
That is fantastic news.
