Let's Get Twisted a New G1

Here it is. In a cruel twist of fate, TwistedUmbrella's G1 has been bricked. He says, no more G1. Well, I'm not planning on replacing my G1 anytime soon, and I want to do what I can to keep TwistedUmbrella around as a developer. Maybe this isn't necessary. Maybe I don't care, because the man deserves something in exchange for his contribution. Therefore I am opening this thread to collect donations to get him a new phone, whatever damn color he wants.
To get this rolling, I pledge $10 (your new update better be GOOD... haha). Twisted, please post a paypal address you'd like to collect at. I'm not gonna do it, because I'd be too tempted to blow all the donations on beer and hookers.
P.s. to all other developers: your efforts are very much appreciated as well. I'd have done the same for any of ya.

I know plenty of people who bricked their phones and just acted dumb to tmobile and got a replacement

Lmao! That's what I did when my phone got bricked. Just pretend like you don't know anything about the phone and have a really sad voice. T-mobile falls for it every time

why not get him a hero? if xda devs can make the hero rom almost useable on a g1 just imagine what they could do with the real thing. im looking to change devices the second i can get my hands on an android phone with:
1 harware keyboard
2 more ram
3 hsdpa 3g for at&t
4 faster cpu
oh and bigger frickin keys!!! stupid chin eats way to much space

I would donate 10 or 20 dollars if needed. I really appreciate all the work these devs do for us. As soon as I have enough experience, I would love to help out with ROM development too

Hey guys. Thank you so much. I actually haven't heard back from HTC, but they said it would be a month before I would get anything if they repair it.
In light of this, and getting the new Hero 2.0 to pack, I had to shell out $410 this morning for a mytouch. On the drive home, I rooted it, got hero on it, and got all my data back.
If you still want to donate, [email protected] is my paypal address. I didn't have the money myself, lol, but I managed to borrow a credit card. At least this way I can get back to work on Hero tomorrow.
As promised, when I got 2.0 I would get back to work... Thanks again...

at&t 3g dont work on hero.
HSPA/WCDMA:
900/2100 MHz
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
at&t 3g(hspa) speed frequencies are 850 and 1900, so the hero doesnt support those frequencies for hspa. the only 3g service you are goin to get on hero is tmobiles UPLOAD.
tmobile uses 1700 for download and 2100 for upload. and since 2100 is supported by heros hspa it would work.
and theres already video proof that at&t 3g doesnt work on the hero..

Word is, he's uploading a brand-new Hero ROM based on the new HTC update right now. I can't wait to see what all the hype is about.

We are currently using a leak from Sprint.....not sure what you're using. Mine isn't buggy, again, not sure what you're using.
Just my thoughts.

There will be some benefits to Sprint releasing a 2.1 update. With everything that people are doing on this forum, it has not made me dying to know when we will get the update but don't act like we won't benefit from it being released.

I'm not sure how much we'll benefit as the official is said not to support LWP and we have that working now......

i think we should initiate the hounding NOW for the kernal scource; i know its early, but im sure it couldnt hurt!

We could care less about LWP and other crap... we want the kernel. So we benefit when they release because they will have to release the kernel as well.

haha my email had ALOT more info than that. but anyways we should be getting it this week. according to the email, and the evo will be out 2nd week of june. priced 199 for new contract. and i get to play with it on the 17th of may woooo.
anyways lay it to rest. let the 2.1 come out so we can see if the audio issue is gone..

if best buy is sending out these memos its gotta be soooooooonnn

199 new contract? what about an early upgrade? full 199?
whats the policy on trading in heros with cash. i read somewhere you can get 80$ for your used hero. could my hero be used as 80$ credit towards that 199?

the only price that bbym has set is the new contract price. 199. i have not heard anything else. and we dont do trade ins yet. i know we will begin taking console games towards credit soon. and remember all this can change at any moment with sprint. the good thing is that since bby purchases the phone from the manufacturer, the evo out right price may be 599. since the hd2 is 199 new contract 599 outright. only time will tell.

im not very good at all this. i came straight from metro pcs (short jint with tmobile, but no contract)
so the bb price is sure to be different from sprint?

Umm, if the last kernel release is any indication.. we won't be seeing that source the same day the update is released.. not even close.

The source doesnt come with the rom. htc or whoever owns it, has the rights to it for a certain period of time after the release. But since it is open source they have to eventually release it. I read somewhere else it can be up to 6 months after the release.

is it just me or.....

...does there seem to be more / advanced development going on for the 3 year old touch vogue with ported android than we have for the hero with native android? i mean they already have a fully working 2.2 port as well. no offense towards our devs but this place has been a ghost town since the almighty evo dropped.

i asked a question, i wasn't dissing the devs. it just pisses me off that the hero is considered an ancient phone in less than a year and the vogue is 3 years old and has more development.
and before anybody asks...yes i left the evo after a week for 3 reasons.
1.) too slow of development.
2.) you have to disable everything to get half way decent battery life.
3.) the $10 extra is a joke when i have no 4g.

so lets see...
1.) the evo has been out for what a month or two and from what ive seen there have been huge break throughs
2.) alot of those issues are being worked on and will be fixed. we didnt have oc/uv until just recently. What makes u think everything is gonna be discovered over night
3.) 10 bucks is gay

$10 just isn't worth it.

They have more developing going on b/c the vogue is 3 years old and thats a long time . The hero hasn't been out a year yet and look at all the roms , themes , etc. that we have already .

Every carrier will have some extra charge for "4G". Every carrier is now at some sort of "cap" for their data as well. Everyone wants something new without the extra $10. So you want 4G in your area, but you don't want to help pay to develop it.... typical American thinking, everything must come free.

I am personally very proud of our developers and take offense to your statement.they have done great things for my hero and we must remember that they are doing it free of charge,I don't quite have the understanding that they do when it comes to development so without them I would be lost,thanks to everyone that supports our device

Really, who has left? By my accounts, other the Damageless, all other devs and modders, for the most part, are still here doing work, at least to some degree.

He complains about everything dude. He has never produced a mod/theme/rom/fix/ or anything for that matter other than threads asking for ports from other phones or threads complaining. Kinda reminds me of another user that hasn't posted in forever. Damageless and treve r the only two who have left. Even fresh and konikub have updated their Rome even though they r working on the evo also. BTW jschisurf=mod God. Not kissing ur ass bro just making a true statement

Ha, thanks man. You do nice work yourself IMHO, there's still a pretty solid core around here.

So can someone enlighten me on what hasn't been done yet???
I mean as far as I know, devs didn't have to rewrite drivers from scratch (With the exception of the touch drivers)
I just have a hard time figuring out what they are doing that we haven't already done...i am sure if you would say "Hey vogue guys have this - and it would be cool to have" someone would look at it...but no one here has the need to run Ubuntu or windows mobile ports so what are you complaining about???

I wouldn't mind running another Linux port when I'm through with my hero. It would be nice to be able to run backtrack but alas that is only a dream. Aside from that anything that I'd ever want or need has been so graciously provided for by the amazing devs and if it hasn't there is probably a guide or tut out there for how to do it on my own Cheers to the awesomeness that is xda!

lol Im very proud of the work that our devs have done..and thank them any chance i get..for without them what would we have? I may not like some of the extra stuff on some roms.. but at least they give a damn to put something out for those who do!!Its all bout choices..which in my eyes we have plenty for our hero.. like sense..well go try out one of many roms based off it.. like stock android..go get darchdroid...<----my fav by the way...

Its amazing the maturity of the people on the Epic forums compared to the Evo forums ... it's ridiculous

Ditto on the Within. I haven't truely made up my mind just yet (although I hate the screen, cams and battery life on the evo3d). I don't get my upgrade til September (epic release date) after calling Sprint about premier gold vs silver (thanks again guys!) and my plan is to wait about a month (if necessary) to see what Cyanogenmod prospects look like on both platforms. If the within has good progress at least being made, within for sure. But if it's a small dev community (don't get me wrong, ours is certainly quality over quantity ) again working on a very different us variant with issues, it may be enough to make me take the Evo3D. I love its resolution like you wouldn't believe, but I think the screen looks like crap because of the 3d surface on top of it. Plus qualcomm crappy battery life, 720p 5mp only cameras... should be interesting!
I don't think I'm alone in saying though the epic taught me a very valuable lesson. Never buy on release day. Its hard I know but the epic is great, we've STILL got great devs hard at work, and gingerbread and flash look better than on a mac (which almost always suck with fash). I'll wait it out a bit. Mystery's ability to do what he did with froyo makes me wonder what we'll get from ACS regarding GB. This release was sick. It's the froyo we were all seeking. I think we're on track to see our phones rise as their reliability continue to cruise. I know people still joining older phones for cost reasons. We'll have another wave enter our community down the road. It's all cyclical. The Within crowd will be demanding before they learn patience. Be strong, grasshoppers.

That reminds me, in preparation for my trip to Amsterdam and Germany I was updating my old TP2 (for the sim card slot, last year I got 6.5-7mbps on vodafone germany, for ten euros for the month prepaid! Way faster than 3g sprint, kinda funny). They still have active development going on! Its awesome, I love the community! June 6th for the rom, then they've got a very nice froyo (and somewhat unstable gingerbread) in both nand flash or haret boot. Amazing. That and the wpa-supplicant ad-hoc hack for the epic and I'll be tethering my epic to the tp2, google voice and skype, ten euros prepaid internet and I'll be good to go! Did I mention I love the community?!

Yea i don't really have a choice now ... my mom spent the money i saved up for it ...
She said she'll pay for the Within.. so $200 and im guessing the Within will be more .. so im making interest

There should be a lot more developers out there who can make better Roms or dump other stock Roms onto devices not just the EVO 4g, but some of these developers half way do a project than stop or give up which pisses me off ..only good working ROM in my opinion is MikG everything else is pretty much lame .. Comments?

That's your opinion. There is a reason we have dozens of roms for the evo, cause people like them. I flash a new rom every week or so. I have yet to find one that is "pretty lame".

If you aren't happy, make your own! Don't ***** at the devs that build the roms on their free time and let you run em for FREE. Hence the word free. Be appreciative for something once in your life!

I guarantee theres no other place other than XDA that you will find android developers better than the ones here,these guys dont have to share their expertise with you or anyone else for that matter,these guys work hard to give this community the best.As the guy above said,if your not happy with the development here,then develope a rom yourself.As for the best rom,there is'nt one they all run great,but are different styles,none are the same.As for giving up on a rom in mid development,its probably because this is'nt paying their bills and they have families to deal with,again they do this on their free time,to give back to the community.You should show appreciation to all developers.

There are plenty of devs and plenty of ROMs. Not everyone does this for a living, people do have lives and are busy or move on to different phones.
We have a great development section. The Evo 3D section, up until recently, was just the same Sense themed differently with a couple differences. We have plenty of things to choose from.
If you don't like things, change things and make your own ROM.
ANNOUNCEMENT: I should be starting a Photon 4G port soon. If anyone has any words of wisdom or advice and guidance, PM me.

I feel quite the opposite as OP. I am so thankful for this community that gives me so much for pretty much nothing in return but a meager "thanks! "

I kinda see where hes coming from. Some roms do get put in a stand still.. Its great there are lots of devs out there, but i do find myself flashing more because most the roms I'm using are in beta modes. Its funny I turned my phone into sprint today, and was surprised how stock non rooted did. Everything was snappy, but all those dam apps and the horrible battery life, makes me glad devs do make roms for us. So don't read into that too much guys and don't take everything defensive.

Agreed, I'm very grateful for all the devs do for us FOR FREE. I don't understand people who complain about free things. Like others have said, if you don't like what you see, learn to make a ROM yourself!

Won't be free if something breaks on your phone from rooting a rom that wasn't tested fully enough..

sure thing.. Was an old virus rom, which speaker was too loud and blew my ear piece speaker.. Cost me 35 dollars

That just sounds like you had a bad equalizer setting and if it was of course overpowered, the speaker will blow. And the roms are clearly labeled, alpha, beta, stable, ect, clearly listing what works / what doesn't. You flash and root at your own risk, so don't cry about when something happens because of something you did, to your phone, under your own influence.

I was running this sweet custom ROM once...
I was talking on the phone and driving my car and some guy ran a red light and hit me.

Gee really??? I installed the STOCK ROM did no modifications. He asked if a rom broke my phone and it did. I know they are at my own risks.. I didn't complain to virus I learned my lesson so wtf you on about besides trolling?

The stock rom can have modifications, even if you didn't make them yourself. And again, yes, a custom rom broke your phone, you may not have complained to virus about it, but you're still complaining about it now. And I'm far from trolling you, I raised a logical, correct point.

And there hasn't been 50 new phones released since the EVO!? So when they fixxed the speaker they told you your rooted stock rom broke it? Also for you to get pissy when someone points out something valid is just stupid.
