**not for HD2* CyanogenMod 6.0 RELEASE, 28August2010 **not for HD2** - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

...sorry, yes - this is not a direct port for HD2s...
HOWEVER!
Quite a few of the major stable and popular ports that we DO use (to include shu8i's) use CyanogenMod as their base.
Which means: a) we (depending on the RL schedules of our fine cooks) should be getting even better builds soon, and b) we are *that* much closer to getting a permanent build for our trusty HD2s.
Huzzah!

and how does this help us with android development on the HD2?

shubCRAFT is based on Cyanogenmod

****!!! Got all excited for an HD2 release. Where is Zego when when we need him, dudes been hiding under a rock for weeks. Probably got pissed shu8i took his rom, skinned it, and released it. Been waiting for a CM release, but without that nasty skin on the shubcraft.

You know, I thought I would hate the skin on shubcraft, but I'm using it with original fonts and I quite like it now. But I'm pretty much fine with using stock android, sense or this one. Guess I'm not picky haha.

All apologies...
*doublepost* Sorry!

Wow this is hd2 thread why would you post it here then

It's news related to shubcraft, I'm glad it was posted here. I wouldn't have found out about it otherwise. Being negative won't make the thread go away, so be positive or let the thread go. By posting you're just bumping it up which if you think the thread is pointless, is pointless itself.
Thanks OP

That sounds like good news since I enjoy the shubcraft builds. Can't wait to see his new one with this version.

Can I ask why are you posting these things here if they are not meant to be for HD2, Please don't make this room very heavy as new people find very hard to find the rights things when they are mixed with the junk like this. just post things relevant to hd2 here

I like shubCRAFT too, hope to see the progress very soon.
Thanks for great work.

Please Mod rename the topic

I've been able to test the newly released CM6 (by building a ROM for the HD2) and I can say its pretty slick...
I build these for my personal use (themed and all) but if there are enough of you who want it I could release just for you...
The potential release will be be custom themed with the possibility to "stockify" it for those who may not like the theme.

Go here: http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/downloads/list
Download basefiles, the "system" file, and the instructions. This will get you started so you can see if you like it. From there, you honestly just have to read the different threads and experiment. enjoy.
These questions aren't extremely easy to answer since there are different possible answers to most (or all) of them. But, since I understand where you're coming from, I'll take a stab at it.

Honestly, there are a lot. If you go here and click on ROMs, you can see that there are many just in this list, but there are more than just those. Each one listed is a different build. However, there is a general way to tell some things about them. For example, if the name of it contains Cupcake or Donut, it's more stripped-down than some of the others (if you didn't know, Google names its Android builds after pastries). The next one is Eclair, by the way.
How do they compare?

Trying to seriously answer this question would probably require a rather in-depth answer in itself. However, the ones that aren't stock ROMs will be themed to look differently than the stock ROM.
There is a difference, however, between a themed Donut build and, say, a HERO build.
The HERO builds are themed even more heavily and try to add nicer features. The problem though is that HERO builds tend to be slower. And Sense just refers to HERO (you can see a thread on this forum for a senseHERO build).
I like to use the themed Donut (or Cupcake) builds because they look a bit nicer but still run pretty fast. This one would be an example of what I'm referring to, but there are several others as well.
I used xROM briefly and that may have had some different features (someone may be able to help me here), but I believe they are usually themed builds that look a bit different but do run pretty well.
The best thing I can say though is, you might try to get some idea, but you can only really find out which ones you like best by trying them. The one I linked to is generally the type of build I like to use, but that may be different for you.
Is it stable & fully functional?

The one-word answer is no. However, this project has come a long way, and most of the features work (I used them when most features didn't work, at least in terms of hardware). As far as I know, bluetooth isn't working on Vogue, assuming that's device you're using. Depending on the build you use, you can probably get all other features working. But if you look at the thread I posted, you can see I've been having trouble with GPS/My Location. That's mainly because Donut, the newest released version, is still in the works and that has caused the feature to stop working even though it worked in the past. I don't think anyone has it working on Donut, but other than Bluetooth and GPS, everything else works.
Stability also depends on your build. The ones I use - the less-themed, quicker ones - have been more stable in my experience. If you use one of those, they'll be pretty stable (but like I said the more themed ones do have some additional features).
How does it compare to WinMo?

Of all your questions, this one is the most difficult to answer because it's almost impossible to do objectively. Personally, I like Android better than Windows Mobile because:
1. It's significantly faster for me
2. There's more freedom in terms of tweaking it
3. I think it has a MUCH better notification system than WinMo
4. I like the integration with GMail (better than WinMo's Exchange support) and other Google services
5. It has an app market!
These are pretty self explanatory, but I just love the notification system of Android. I was pleasantly surprised to see a weather alert appear in my notification bar after I downloaded the Weather.com app the other day. Everything appears there - including your appointments on your Google Calendar, texts, e-mails - everything. I think it's just great how it's all unified.
Okay, this has been a long post, and it's probably enough to take in. If you have any more questions, just ask!
How do i get the Rom on my phone, I have no idea where to start.
Yes that definitely answered my question(s) pretty thoroughly.. I'll give it a try from the instructions text file I found on a forum.. doesn't look as easy, but easy is sometimes no fun.
Thank you!

EXCELLENT post Pandemic187. I am sure your reply to this thread helped a lot of people! Very well thought out and direct. Us vets that have tested just about every build could probably be quite long-winded when giving instruction and opinions
Kudos bro.
I have to echo my thanks here also. With whatever changes that may be needed, this should be a sticky. The development on this project has been so fast and furious, that I think some of the Dev gurus on here lose sight that there are many newbies, who have android lust Ideally I would like to see some fairly stable packages, all in one types, that are newbie friendly. Or maybe a bi-monthly set of packages so the development would be easier to follow.
Just a suggestion.
This thread has gone a long way in my book in making it easier.
Yeah, I'm usually keen on reading forums, but android's been relatively over my head recently.. that combined with December's exams, reports, and Christmas shopping, it's hard to keep up with the latest and greatest.

[Q] FroydVillain or CronosFroyo?

I've currently settled down with CronosDroid 2.13 the last few weeks and it's been ok. A little unstable at times (OC to 670ish MHz) and keep having to kill tasks all the time but it's not bad I suppose.
I wanted to try Froyo out and was looking at FroydVillain and Cronos Froyo.
I will try them both myself, but I was wonder what you guys think of FroydVillain 1.4 vs Cronos Froyo 1.02?
Any particular positive or negatives?
Froyd over Cronos
Positives:
Active Development
Dedicated Support
Probably as simple as that really.

I love you're argument - it is so based in faith that it is a superfluous statement. You haven't provided a single reason for the OP to use the rom aside from your own arrogance. Please provide something useful to the discussion or don't bother to post. (Edit: sorry to bash you but there are so many cronos users who have no idea what they are talking about and have never even tried another rom)
I would love to hear some genuine reasons for using Cronos (from users who have tried both, like myself) because I actually respected it as a rom, but I do believe with the most recent release of Froyo that the unsupported Cronos release is obsolete.

I think both are being actively developed and have dedicated support. The thing is all the roms are getting so good now that it really comes down to personal choice. Try both and see which one you like would be my advice.

What guys are you saying : Cronos = Hate, what's that ?
Try the 2 Roms and you will have your personal idea.
(Cronos have their site for support and it's very active)
O interesting news that the Cronos project is back. Just be careful as the developer hasn't released his source code (which is against the GPL agreement which the Android platform is a part of, and his linux code isn't available either - once again illegal...). But lets not get into that again.
If Feeyo is providing support on his site I would keep all discussion there as you won't find much favour for the project on XDA at the moment
Edit: I take that back, just seen info about his sources - will see how things work out, maybe Feeyo will come back to XDA in the future and things can move on
This new all makes my first post mostly superfluous now too. My advise is now to try them all (froyo builds) and see which one suits you the most.
Well I've had FroydVillain 1.4 installed all day.
Trying to get used to Launcher Pro... Its cool, but just different. The dock makes a lot of other short cuts obsolete! Maybe thats why it comes with 3 homes screens as default... no way you need 7 with that dock.
What a shame there aren't more icons for it.
I'll let you guys know what I think after a few days time.
Thanks for your input!
Boogwee try here:

try both and pick. i used cronos for longer as froyd seems to have constant fix-patches which may be good but seems bad.
that said, i'd recommend elelinux.

I agree which ROM is better has alot to do which what you like I personally like Cronos better but before there was Cronos I tried the Villain stuff but I PERSONALLY never really cared for their ROMs they always lagged with me but I haven't tried any of their newer ones so the problems I experienced are probably solved.

10char.....
I have only ever used the Cronos ones.
I thought about trying a villain rom once, but i don't like the way the devs waffle on like the wideboys of XDA, so i never tried it.
Before Froyo, i only ever used the SenseHero 5.1 roms, which after some previous searching, gave me links and messages from the VR team *****ing about Stickman,
Well I stuck with Cronos for a few weeks but the last update 2.14 slowed it waaaay down do instead of going back to 2.13 I thought I would try the new FroydVillain 1.5 and I have to say it's pretty awesome! SUPER fast.
I'm even getting used to Launcher Pro instead of sense..
Thanks for the link spamianspoon, that's an awesome site..
Hi guys,
my 2 cents:
I used Feeyos Rom from the beginning, cause for my felling they were the fastest.
Since Froyo is out, i tried both, Cronos and Froyd. Till release.. i thin it was 1.0.3 or something, i was not really happy with Cronos. So i tried Froyd, which was bette at this time, but not perfect. It's just a feeling that things in the Froyd Rom take a ( really just) little bit longer.
Since Cronos 1.1.0 my opinion is clear: Go and take Feeyos Rom. It's just as fast as no Rom before at my Hero. Everything is fast and responsive.
Ah but i know one thing i miss in the Cronos Roms: MORE THEMES If you want to have very much nice looking themes you should try Villain.
But since Computerfreak ported his theme to Cronos i'm happy again I think they will be more Themes in the future.
So my opinion: Cronos Froyo
Cheers
Froyd 1.5 would have to be the fastest rom. But then again I've never tried Chronos.
Gotta say ive found Cronos Froyo to be the fastest without lag.
Hopefully MrBang will release a froyo rom, as his 1.5 was the fastest rom ive used.
did someone try the cronos 1.1.1 and froyd 1.5?
bb.

CyanogenMod 6.1 is on its way! And its easy to get on Captivate!

Sorry if this has already been posted.
I apologize for not keeping the site up to date, I’m a slacker We also had a database issue and lost the last post about 6.0′s release, if you were wondering why it went missing.
6.1 is the current work-in-progress and is coming together nicely. There’s a few new features like touch-to-focus in the camcorder, dismiss notifications by swiping, kernel updates for most devices, and improved performance. There will also be support for a few new devices- Acer Liquid, HTC Wildfire and Samsung Vibrant. My eye is also on the new HTC phones that are about to get released like the G2.
A lot of people ask me about adding support for their phone, but we can only support phones that we actually own. The CM team is always looking for new hackers to join up with us to add support for their favorite device. Get in touch with me if you’d like to help.
CyanogenMod is open source. The quality of code being added to CM has vastly improved because of the code review system that we’ve put in place, Gerrit. It’s the same system used by Google to manage the Android Open Source Project. It allows anyone to submit code to the project in a highly-visible way and gives us a way to examine and improve it before it’s actually merged. We want your code, so send us your patches. If there’s something you don’t like, change it.
Nightly builds of CM are always available if you’re brave and want to try out the latest code. If you’re running nightly builds, the best way to stay up to date on new changes is to follow @cmsrc on Twitter.
Our user base is approaching a quarter of a million users. This project has come a long way Thanks for all the support, we are only as strong as the community!

Porting a vibrant rom to the captivate is not hard
no wayyyy this is finally coming to our cappy, i'd be beyond happy
Hate to sound like a douche, but is there anything in there (besides maybe some of the features of CM6.1) that we havent known for a long time? No release date, we know thier working on it, and we know they are working with the vibrant.
Well if you look here it still shows as in progress for version 6.0...They have said in the past that the vibrant won't be supported till 6.1 and then someone will still have to port it to the captivate..

Its not really about a wealth of extra features. Cyanogenmod has extra configurability. In addition it is a bit more cohesive than typical roms. I definitely preferred it over the stock Nexus One rom and the stock nexus one rom is better than stock Captivate.
The rapid updates and support is enough for me to use Cyanogenmod.

I don't think that's very likely to happen. You'll notice that most of the "ported" ROMs here came from the DX; same manufacturer, incredibly similar hardware so there's less fighting and testing to be done. There hasn't been a fully functional and stable AOSP ROM to hit yet (that I've found) much less a successful port from another, very dissimilar handset.

In terms of porting this rom over. If you give me a link to some screenshots and/or a thread about this rom I can take a look at it and see if I would even want to port it over.

Tried it. Clunky, no cellular radio activation, and got into a boot loop at reboot. That's why cvpcs released it in beta. His twitter and site both listed it as buggy.
Once one is released I'll happily eat my words on the AOSP statement but a port at this point is highly unlikely. THank Moto and their damned eFuse chip. I'd LOVE to see more ROMs of any origin but we're a long way away, still, from even having a good AOSP base to build a kitchen from.
Once someone releases a good, stable, everyday, AOSP ROM for the D2 then I think it's likely that we'll see ports from other devices start popping up using said ROMs as the basis for said ports. I'm seriously hoping to see the awesome results from blackdroid, cvpcs, and (if he gets back into it) Matt4542 toward this end.
i can pretty much guarentee you gotta be a super dev to port that rom

This thread is now for MeeGo's Status, It'll be updated as soon as anything new comes up. (If you have any updates please post them here along with the source link) and I'll update the OP.
Please thank Steve (Strougthonsmith) as well as DFT for the great time they're spending on porting this awesome OS to our HD2s.
Updates :

[Jan 9] Wifi is working properly ! [Not via UI yet]
[Jan 22] Speed improved dramatically with a Video !!

[May 18]No progress has been made since November.
[Oct 31]Steve clarifies some things, and let's just not lose faith

*It's not released yet and no ETA, but you can Donate to Steve through his personal page or Cotulla through his personal page.
*We are not signing people up, and the poll is closed as well, these are just updates.
*I did nothing ! ..all the Thanks should go to any of Steve's posts, not me (not this post !).
*Still alot to be fixed. Even if it is released, don't expect it to be a daily-use OS (for now) .

I plan on posting the image as soon as I get the touchscreen working correctly, and WiFi would be a bonus too. Still figuring it all out, but I can guarantee you'd be disappointed if I released right now

I think a torrent would be best, that way we wouldn't have to download it all at once
I'm just curious, what are the advantages of meego over ios, winmo, or even android?

MeeGo is a full Linux distribution, using X11, so it's very portable. Both Nokia and Intel will be putting a lot of effort into MeeGo to make it perfect for phones and tablets, and it's super slick and multi-touch enabled, etc.
I agree with the rest steve this is how it would most likely play out if you release it now
if you release it now you open many doors to lots of other devs ready to tweak it and improve it just look how far android has come in less than 6 months i mean we have fully functional builds and by different devs each improving in other words if ya notice when mdeejay would release a fix for something no one else could find darkstone would implement it on his next build or vice versa. so by releasing this beta stage of meego you open many opportunities and most likely speed up the process. PLEASE STEVE RELEASE AN ALPHA BUILD WE ALL KNOW WHAT WERE GOING TO EXPECT remember android builds that were extremely unstable? im sure i speak for alot of people
(or atleaste update us with videos on how its going if you dont want to release an alpha build) YOUR STILL THE BEST ive been wanting meego over android for a long time now

I'm getting help with the touchscreen stuff, so won't be releasing anything until I know it's working perfectly. Might take a couple days, be patient!
I'd love to see meego on my HD2! I was actually really torn between the Hd2 and n900 when I was looking for a new phone. Loved the looks of maemo and possibilities of meego but couldn't get past the n900's hardware
