Shortcut to Execute commands on Computer - Android Software Development

There are all of these app's out there that allow you to control your computer from your phone (using VNC and others). This is all well and good....but there are no shortcuts to do anything on these apps. Whatever you are trying to do on your computer takes way too many screens/clicks to be truly efficient by using your phone. You most certainly are able to do it with your phone.....but hell...it was way more complicated than it had to be.
**DOES BELOW APP EXIST?**
I would LOVE to just touch a shortcut on my home screen that would send a couple of keystrokes to my computer. Or telling my computer to open a particular program from a shortcut created on my android phones Home screen. This would be amazing. I could tell my computer to run whatever task from my phone QUICKLY...without having to jump hoops through screenshots/mouseclicks/keyboard on VNC app's......
Using this, you would no longer need all these separate video/music player control apps...you could just wire hotkeys/scripts to be run to control ANYTHING. I could send a keystroke to minimize/maximize a window....pause iTunes....Give a song 3 star rating....open a particular site...
I'm just trying to turn my phone into a much better remote for my computer.....all current apps seem to fail horribly.

Hi,
I was looking for the same thing and came a cross a neat application to run on computer, AutoHotKey ( http://www.autohotkey.com/ ). Then I use MultiRemote to send keystrokes (like a hotkey, CTRL+P), programmed as one button in that program. Then on the computer side I have a script that knows what to do when that button is pushed Really powerful application with tons of features to program in the scripts...

Sky by mobile

I'm sure you know what this does, incase you don't, you can set your sky + box from your phone and browse the programme schedule.
I've installed the attached file and get as far as being able to enter my user name and password. The login and exit buttons do not respond.
Any ideas of how to make this work? any devs able to adapt this for our HDs?
This would be a great app to use.
Thanks
Mark
attached as a zip this time
Seems like a Java application. I usually don't like to use my midlet A native application would definitely be cool.

Carty..
You can also buy a SlingBox and broadcast Sky and other video sources to your phone, laptop, PC etc.

Any remote control app?

Are there any PC remote control app? Something similar to the team viewer app for iphone or another one?
Thanks!
Gmote 2.0 is kind of a remote app, mainly for media though.
It allows you to search through your files of your pc, from your phone,
and either play them on your pc, or on your phone. Has normal, play pause volume settings.
I.e. if i have an episode of family guy on my pc, i can use my phone to play it on my pc, which means i can be lazy and not move off my bed and watch it.
Also if i fancy doing it the other way round, i can stream the episode to my phone.
Only works over a local wi-fi though.
Thanks for this Phil, it's incredible and free!
It works perfectly on my Desire and Windows 7 PC (even though the installation instructions say XP/Vista).
No problemo
Only annoying thing is i cant stream most of my videos to my phone , buts that not the app fault, its fact there mostly .avi .
Great little app for us lazy people! Very useful when your watch a series of something with 20 mins episodes and you cant cant be bothered to get up and go the next one!
If any of you use MCE try myRemote, its awesome!
GRemote Pro is also awesome, not free though...
Thanks for your suggestions but I was looking for something more than just file browsing and running applications, more like having my PC desktop displayed and the mouse controllable on my desire's display.
GRemote Pro will allow you to control your mouse cursor and type etc, but won't display your PC desktop, you're talking about remote desktop software, not remote software.
For that try the LogMeIn free beta, or PhoneMyPC.

I can Highly recommend Gmote.
Tried it today on Ubuntu desktop machine and It's awesome!
Logmein is already available. Teamviewer is still in dev.
phonemypc is awesome. The execute Actions feature allows me (with the help of the app developer), to open a MS Access database on my pc with one button press. When that database is opened it automatically runs macros within Access.
I then press another button from my Android to close the MS Access database on my PC. You can of course remotely control your PC from your android. However, as mentioned above it is the ability to one button press an action that can be a bat file on your PC.
Excellent and well worth the money IMHO
If it's a remote desktop app you're after, have you tried RDP Client or PocketCloud?
UnifiedRemote looks pretty good.

TeamViewer beta 6.x both for desktop and phone work excellent! Pretty much exactly what I was after for months.
Initially, their front page ad scared me. Some Indian and Philippine fraudsters were using the same ad on their websites with a different edited product name which looks very similar overall (and the same blue website theme). They were phoning UK/US homes disguised as a legit business trying to get you to install such a product on your PC with lofty offers in return (free software, movies, etc). The product allowed them to basically take over your Windows machine without you realizing.

Remote control Android from PC

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there is any app that would allow me to remote control my android from my PC when it's connected via USB, etc?
I have a few repetativ things that need to be done that may take a couple of hours on the 'droid which using a keyboard and mouse for would probably speed things up significantly.
Cheers

Hi, may be with adb connect IP (wifi)
or try WebKey app from Market
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.webkey

Remote Control Add-on may be much simpler. And you can integrate it with Remote Web Desktop for more features, such like desktop SMS, file explorer, FTP, etc.
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.rc
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.rm
That's fantastic! if only it was possible to do with unrooted phones. (Half the reason I'd love it is to assist / support others who are new to the phone
the best one ive found is this http://www.unifiedremote.com/ simple fast and can use anything ex shut down, sleep, WMP ect really good

There's now an Android version at MyMobiler web site.

a nother good Tool is Total Comander and Android ADB 5.6:
so you can:

- APK icons and metadata with custom columns
- Backup and Restore on ICS
- LogCat/BugReport/Dmesg (Copy file from folder), Shell

TeamViewer is actually quite nice. I don't like how the free version times out after a while and the first tier of a paid version is over $700.

Could always try AirDroid?
Can't include outside link as under 10 posts...
VNC is good
Seems most people here are missing the OP's question
There are a lot of responses to this person's question (albeit, an old question) that are totally missing what he wants to do.
he wants to control his phone FROM his PC. Half the apps mentioned are remote control (like a tv remote control) app for your phone that control your PC.
second, apps like Airdroid are NOT the solution he is asking for. Airdroid is not a "remote control", it is a "remote management" app.
the OP wants to send the view you see as you look at your phone, to the PC, so that it can be manipulated with the keyboard and mouse.
For those that have used teamviewer, Logmein, VNC, .. you know what what I am talking about. This is one of those things that I think many people have a hard time understanding until they see it. For the longest time I could not get my parents to understand that I could SEE their screen on my PC as if I was sitting at their PC..
For the OP, or anyone else who is finding this thread on google, there are a few options and they all seem to need root.
LANmote
VM VNC Server
android-vnc
VNC server (by wencent)
VNC Server Ultimate (might support non rooted devices)
If you own a samsung device, you can use the official team viewer app, it works flawlessly (I use it to support my parents and their GS3's)
If you start your google search or market search with VNC SERVER or similar, you will be off to a good start.

Help making android application into service

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to android applications. I am specifically working on an android application that runs for the Notion Ink Adam. A guy by the name of Mr.Guy actually wrote the app nearly perfectly and provided the source to me but there is a small issue I want to work out, hopefully with some help.
Basically the app runs from a search button long press, runs a native linux command (which toggles the backlight on and off) and closes.
The problem with the current application is that if you have somethings open in a current window they are closed by this application running. An example is opening the app drawer on the homescreen. Running the application closes the app drawer. In some cases th interruption makes a greater difference like when viewing media.
Anyway heres the source, ftp://eto.homeip.net/Shared/NotionInkHacks/PQiToggle.zip
I think I need the application to run a service instead of an activity but this didn't seem to matter. I'm pritty sure I need it to not call a UI and just run the service.
An ideal fix for this is to skip the application and just rely on keycodes run from init.rc but trying to do this I had zero success. I'm not sure if the version of init in my rom supports keycodes.
If you could help me either with making it a service or allowing a native linux command run from keycodes I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!!
You can call a service directly from a broadcast receiver which can listen for the "on search long press" intent

[Q] Desktop Fullscreen App Exit to Start Screen

I know Windows 8's metro UI isn't the most popular thing regarding windows, but bear with me.
I really like the start screen and metro UI, especially after finding out it works wonderfully on a TV. In my particular case, I am in search of a way to exit a fullscreen desktop app to the start screen. I've searched around, however, since nobody really likes metro i cannot find any information regarding this (in fact, i get the opposite tips). The moment i mention metro or start screen in any searching, i get results regarding how to avoid said UI.
Is there any way to accomplish this? A prime example would things like emulators (dolphin, ppsspp, project64, etc) or regular PC games (Titanfall, Skyrim, any other windows game). I'm essentially trying to kill off the desktop (could also be interpreted as trying to do a Xbox One imitation), as this PC will be in the living room. I know there's things like Steam Big Picture, but i would like to avoid another UI on top of metro and to keep things consistent.
Any information would be highly appreciated. You guys on XDA have always helped whenever i needed it!

dont think you can other than what you mentioned with Steam big screen or little more extreme with SteamOS.
obviously pushing the windows button should take you straight to the start screen but that wont close any running apps or games. maybe map a keyboard button to act as a startscreen button and close any current running programs or apps. not sure how though
Create a little DOS batch program like this
Code:
@echo off
:: stop explorer
taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F > NUL 2>&1
:: start legacy application and wait until it has finished
start "" /wait "<fullpathname_of_your_program_goes_here>" "<program_arguments_goes_here>"
:: re-start explorer
explorer
:: done
exit /b
for each legacy app you want to be run

Hmm, not sure why i would need to kill explorer, but i'll try it out (haven't tested a killed explorer from the start screen, only killed it from desktop). I'm not up to date on my CMD commands, but i don't see a way to bring the start screen back up after the command is finished in your script. I'll test out and see if i can improve it at all.
I should also note that some games that i am trying to launch are just shortcuts to the file (in PPSSPP's case, these would be CSO files, told windows to just launch PPSSPP when opening CSO's). Like i said i'll test and report back.

The Metro interface (START screen) can only be accessed by manually starting explorer.exe.
And that's what I suggested you to do. Nothing else.
If you're using and AirMouse you can miss click on the top and bring up the bar with the x to close. You can take your air mouse cursor to the top of the screen mouseclick hold and drag all the way down and that'll take you back to the start screen but it only minimizes the app that you're using.
Edit: looks like you can just point mouse to the top so the clicking. Also if you take your cursor to the top right and pull down the side without a mouse click the charms bar come out
You want to open the Metro -Start Screen anytime any type of program completely closes? This is possible with a hook...let me know if I'm on the right track...maybe I can code a quick application for you.
Threw together a small C# program that will return to the Metro StartScreen on any application close event. Sits in tray - DoubleClick to exit.
https://app.box.com/metromombo
Let me know if you need any changes - it could be changed for just fullscreen applications.
