Flashable Kernels is now POSSIBLE - Vibrant General

Saw this on Twitter:
justanotherdev
We can now flash kernels from the Vibrant with redbend_ua wooot!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765724
DO NOT GO INTO THIS THREAD AND SPAM CRAP, LET THEM WORK!!!
I kept this out of the Dev forum so it doesn't clutter it up and really has no developmental worth... its really just an update. Please lets just keep this in a positive aspect.
Its all coming together now; all in good time. If you're following JAC and Wes, you'll also see they are looking through CM6 code and its "looking good"

Yep, saw the redband_ua earlier in the Galaxy S dev forum, it's a pretty exciting news, especially for those who do not have windows PC laying around to use ODIN.

all around polish and beautification
If you want to give me things to put in here, either hashtag #CappyBible or mention me on twitter: @androidrocks135. PMs on xda work too, but I'm not going to check those very much.
Hey guys, I'm making a Captivate Bible that lists all of the ROMs, kernels, and other what not so that you can look at the important stuff without having to go through and pick the things that you want to read. I will try my best to keep this constantly updated, but I AM HUMAN so there will undoubtedly be lapses. Please, kernel folks, ROM makers, everyone, let me know on twitter when you post a new thread that you think should go in the bible. My twitter is http://www.twitter.com/androidrocks135. I'll be editing this thing to make it entertaining like the one in the G1 forum, but to start off it'll be kind of plain.
To start this off, I'll go with kernels.

Samsung ROMs-There are a few of these floating around. The JM series doesn't work correctly with our Captivates unless you load a new kernel. The reason being is the three buttons on the front of the i9000 vs the four on the Captivate. The JF series of firmware will work correctly (other than obvious glitches). JF7 is supposed to be released via OTA this Friday. If you're rooted, unless you are experienced with Odin, I wouldn't try it. Also, if you're running a lagfix, be sure to remove it before applying the update.
That's all for now, let me know if I missed something, if you want me to put your hack, ROM or kernel up in the bible, preferably through Twitter, but posting in this thread will work too. I'll be adding a lot more, so keep checking back.
i was just thinking today how we needed this!! It is just starting to get to the point of being too much to follow....if i were just coming into the scene now, i would not have a clue where to start and this definitely helps! Thanks man

I know, I just had to take matters into my own hands, hopefully I'll be able to keep up with this... I'll do my best! Make sure to keep checking back, I'll be adding lots of stuff over the next few days.
Add Eugene's Vibrant Hybrid R3 for the ROM section, and I would actually remove the AOSP as it really isnt a complete and fully working ROM.
Well I just want to get a solid base down before I go and do some tinkering, but thanks for feedback.

No problem.
I'd just like to see a listing of the stock Samsung ROMs, like JM6, JH7 whatever they are. I get confused as to which one was the OEM stock, and in what order they were put out.
Yeah sure, I'll handle that tomorrow.
From mah fonez
Hey Blackjackboy, I was wondering if you could include all the different methods of getting into recovery and download mode in this thread.
When I was trying to unbrick my phone, I really needed a central place for all the different methods that had worked for people.
I think it would help a lot of people. If you want, I could start another thread, but it is already getting too crowded.
Let me know, if you need any help gathering all of that info or people could just post them here and you could add them in the first post. (hopefully, no overlaps)
In addition to posting the various firmwares available at the moment, some links to Odin (One Click and Odin3) and a quick tutorial on both? Just find one of the various Zilch posts where he's explained how to use it to someone.
A lot of questions I see are about flashing to stock or other firmwares in the various ROM threads, when that doesn't need to be explained so many times.

NICE!!! As a guy just getting into the Android scene 3 days ago...LOL I really appreciate this as it's is definitely helping a lot. I still have to do a lot more reading thats for, thanks again!
Dude, you rock thank you for this!
The Wiki has a lot of this stuff too. In my opinion the wiki is a better place for it all because we don't have to rely on one person to do the updates.

How about this, list of RF_CAL_DATE's that have 3 button recovery/download mode disabled.
Here's what I've put together so far and how to check BEFORE you start modding.
Those of you that are missing 3 button recovery and download mode, if your phone is working do this,
go to the phone keypad, dial *#*#197328640#*#* from there it will pull the service menu, go to Version Info, SW Version, READ ALL SW VERSION
Look at the line labeled RF CAL DATE.
Mine for example is, RF CAL DATE 07-11-2010 and my buttons work.
List of known RF CAL DATE's that buttons do NOT work!
8-7-2010
8-11-2010
8-12-2010
8-13-2010
8-15-2010
8-18-2010

Thank you for your efforts, which are really appreciated.
Though, I don't see anything about the "radios" for the captivate, and I my main issue right now is dealing with a bad radio installed while a friend installed the I-9000 room on my captivate...
That would be me. The terminology is confusing but I keep reading. As a suggestion for the "bible" Some sort of architecture drawing showing how things fit together and maybe some videos of rooting, clockwork recovery, Odin, flashing etc. This is a pretty sophiticated group but there many of us that are very cautious and like to see something being done at least once. Probably after that I'll realize how dumb I am but for the moment...

This comes from a tweet posted up yesterday in case y'all missed it...www.htcdev.com/
it is in the sign up to be alerted stage right now, but it looks like HTC are starting to realise the potential of their hardware and more than likely the power of the dev community. Especially here on XDA.
Hope something awesome is in store.
Looks like we could be seeing some awesome custom roms coming our way soon

Do not post links to synergy or other closed testing nighties!!!

I have gotten multiple requests from a few devs in the past week, including myn to delete links to their mirrors posted by users. Today, I had to delete a full thread about these. Stop posting links to said nighties. Devs will release the rom when it is ready to be called "beta". The reason they have not opened a new thread about this is because some people perceive the threads like this as "feelers" or with the sole purpose to draw donations, which is by no means the intention of the devs.
This is a final warning about this.
Right on man the devs work there ass off and are always working on something new and fixing problems sucks when people on here jack there links and post them all over here and then take credit for it Happy you did something about it.
It is crap that people feel the need to do things like that. Personally, I don't mess with "nightlies" unless it says AOSP. Stoked about Myn's next release though.
I agree 100%. Glad to see swift action from the XDA Admins / Mods.
Question - Should all links of the new ROMs be off limits, including changelogs and such? For instance, I noticed a link in the Warm 2.2 thread for the changelog for Myn's Synergy ROM.

Changelogs for this rom can also be found in infectedrom as well afaik. If the link to the changelog has any way to link back to a mirror or a link to obtain the rom, then I would say it should be off limits. Please link me to the post in question if you can (myn's 2.2 thread is only a gazillion pages long and I don't have all eternity to look for it )
ehh, I think the issues is people don't understand that these rom's are for the experienced user. The Synergy is not released publicly yet because their is a risk some idiot will bork, brick, ruin their phone. also if you want it so badly go to the irc channel that's your best bet for getting the latest and most proper version some user's could think they're fixing something and share it on the forum and next thing you know 20+ dead device's
/end input and rant.

great point man.
Although I agree with their general intentions, some developers have not been acknowledging or giving access to the nightly builds even for those who have donated. It's been almost a week since I donated to a developer and have yet to even get an acknowledgement, let alone access to any nighties, and I've seen posts from others who are in the same situation. I know donating does not automatically grant access to the nighties, but I think the developers should also be more forthcoming to those who donated to them.

My point exactly. You don't donate to a dev and get automatic access to nighties. You donate because you feel like giving someone something for their hard work and should expect nothing in return. If the dev so happens to grant access in lieu of donations so be it, all the better for you. However, if a dev did post something along the lines of "donators will receive access to nightly builds and early releases", then that is where we would have to step in, as that is considered selling "money for a good or service". Sorry but if you donated, you donated and that is the end of it.

I think we need more moderator here in the EVO 4G Forum area, because every single Development thread, you can only see people *****ing about the same thing that is already posted, PEOPLE here Don't READ even when your are installing something in your phone that can Break it. ( If you go to a Leak ROM thread, it is clear that you cannot install thoose type of ROMs, and people always are asking that they are having issues installing the ROM, LOL)
If you go to General you can see like 10 thread of the Same Thing, In the Evo 3d Area you can see like 8 topics of Release date, 4 of Root, etc, etc.
My opinion is that we need more moderators in the Forum, The XDA community everyday is becoming bigger, so you need to take that in mind.

Ya alot of flame wars going on. Sad people were stealin links and posting the devs hard work and claming it theres. Glad the ADMIN stopped it.
If you've made it a rule to close threads involving the posting of links to nightlies at least somewhere on the site there could be link to the rom!

[Req] Repository Files and a Goodbye {of sorts}

Hello all,
Many of you know me from around the boards here and I have tried to help most of you at one time or another. Well, as you can see from both my avatar and my signature, I have a new title and a new device. The TMobile BOGO SGS3 and SGS2 was too sweet of a deal and the family CFO, pulled the trigger (fyi, the CFO is NOT me )
With that being said, I will probably be limiting my time in the Vibrant fora for the near future. I still don't know what devices I will be allocated as I just received notice yesterday. Between mine and my wife's phones and tablets and the devices I will be assigned to, I will be stretched thin at first.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone in here that has helped me. I was a new user once too and fortunately someone was there to help me. That has always been my philosophy. They helped me when I was panicking, so the least I can do is help someone else when they are panicking. After all these are expensive little toys we have here, eh? If you check eBay's Vibrant listings, there are very reasonably priced, which means that there will be an influx of new users soon enough with their questions, bootloops and PC connectivity issues. Please try to help them as much as you have helped me.
**********************
With that being said, I am going to post a thread probably this weekend or next with some of the older harder to find files hosted in my Dev-Host account. They will be in there for as long as I have the internet (meaning there is no expiration and the files won't get stale and deleted). I am not going to put any ICS/JB ROMs in there bc they are all still fresh and new, so they should be readily available. Same with ICS/JB kernels
What I need is some of the older files that were either hosted on Multi or Mega that are gone. Below is a list of what I have already. If you can, please PM me a link to any files that you might think would be worthwhile to put on there. This will not be a BIBLE and shouldn't be used as a Q&A, hence the Repository Title.
Files I have:
Stock 2.1 JFD (Pit/Tar files)
Eugene's Froyo that Does Not Brick
Bootloaders:
Froyo Bootloaders
Gingerbread Bootloaders (I have all three)
2.1 JFD with GB bootloaders already injected.
Odin/ Heimdall/ AIO Toolbox:
4 different versions of Odin
2 Versions of Heimdall
AIO Toolbox
Themes:
Almost all 2.2/2.2.1 themes
Bootanimations:
About 20 Boot Animations
ROMs:
Zendroid
Toxic8 (Original and not Fish's mod)
Deranged9 (Original and not Fish's mod)
Bionix (Original and not Fish's mod)
CM7.1 Stable
Kernels:
All 2.2/2.2.1
All 2.3.x
****************
This list is just off memory, but if there is something that you like or need, either send me a PM to include it or send me a link with it included so I can download and then upload to my Dev-Host acct.
Be easy my friends and I will still be lurking. And if for some reason they decide to give me the Vibrant threads with OKA1, I will still be putting this repository together.
Hey Woodrube,
You've been of much assistance in the Vibrant forums as well as other forums. We worked on that petition together and unfortunately, that didn't go too well. You've helped a lot of people across the forums and you deserve a new device! Have fun with it and thanks for taking the time to write guides and post useful information. Frankly, I like my Vibrant better than my Nexus S so I'll prolly stick around for a while, so, if anything, I can take over your threads if you don't have time. I don't mind helping at all and we share the same philosophy.
"I was a new user once too and fortunately someone was there to help me. That has always been my philosophy. They helped me when I was panicking, so the least I can do is help someone else when they are panicking."
It's sad to see you go, but you deserve a new toy to play with, so have fun with it!
Maybe you can PM me the new thread layout you were going to make so I can post it up (That way I can edit it and add files, etc. as I have files downloaded as well.) Of course, credit will be given where credit is deserved.
And once again, thank you for everything you've done in the Vibrant community!
Ya, that petition didn't pan out too well, got me an infraction too, but it is still active believe it or not. Last post wasn't too far off. Was a very passionaite plea and the 4 of us did our best. I actually used it as a reference with my RC application.
As far as the Repo thread, I'll still post it up and put the files in there. The reason for it is because there are soo many files out there that are needed and lost or just plain don't download anymore. When I got the RC, they gave me 40gb for free with unlimited up/downloads and no expiration date. So that isn't too bad a deal. Like I said, I still don't know what devices they will assign me too but I'll still be around, just sparingly.
Thanks for the kind words too.

@Woodman ...
You know my story already esp. how our "discussions" in your infamous ICS guide was monumental in building my confidence to make the jump ... into frenzied flashing fever. The journey's been all-good ever since (regardless of EU and the quirky hiccups along the way).
I had lurked for a very long time before even signing up for an account and then even posting a comment or question - ie. leary (& even already tired then) of the discouraging short-fused quips many-a-n00b had faced.
All it took was the patient demeanor and sage guidance of one person (el Wood Meistro) to change my perspective. You set the standard for being a class act, my friend.
I must say I've been impressed with the new stock of Vibrant regulars lately, and your empathetic philosophy definitely lives on through them. Wherever you end up, we'll all look forward to hitting that Thanks button on your future posts to come.
( In the meantime, I'll still see ya in our favorite watering hole ... )
I am one of the new vibrants users WoodRube has helped. I would like to say thank you once again for the help that you provided to this newb. Im sure there are many many more here that you have helped previously, and for that I say thank you. May you enjoy you're new direction to the fullest.
Hey woody, which device is yours and which is the CFO's?

Ha!! I love my wife but what do you think? She loves her GS2 now though.
I've got SGS3 w/JB leak, SGS2 w/ lighting fast ICS (compared to her last phone), my Transformer w/ICS or JB depending on my mood, her Nook Color with CM7.2 on it, maintaining my BIL's DroidX (due for upgrade) and last night my FIL asked me to set him up with a phone & tablet. Thank God my other in-laws are iOS fanboys/girls.

[OFF TOPIC] Problems with SGS2 Forums

The SGS2 Development forums are being ruined!!!!
Its meant to be a forum where the great devs post their roms, but users are ruining it with posts, posts about
'how do I flash this kernal' or 'how do i flash this rom? what order do I flash it? how do I add a mod? this doesnt work?!!
thats not really nothing to do with Development of Roms, its laziness of not reading the General or Q and A forum! each of the two forums I have mention have a very in depth guide how to flash a kernal, flash a rom, flash anything!!! Also on the first page of EVERY rom is a guide on whats included/not included
this place is not a playschool, you shouldnt need your hands holding flashing anything to your phone, thats what search is for!!! you spent money on the phone......LEARN!!!!!
MODS..... You need to sort out the dev forum, it makes horrible reading the amount of off-topic posts (not telling you how to do your jobs, as you do your jobs very well!)
who agrees with me? look, my wife is not technology minded at all, but reading all the posts, she managed to install a kernal, installed a custom rom, root and install a couple mods.....surely my wife (bless her) doesnt know phones at all, managed to do that, surely any/every user can do the same, remember.....read General forum (STICKY POSTS) and Q & A forum, or use Google!!!!!
Another Thing....People expect EVERYTHING to work perfectly as soon as a new version of OS comes out, users were DEMANDING everything works on kitkat within days of first version coming out....give devs a break
Lastly a 'Well Done' to the Devs, who are still creating roms and mods for this nearly 3 year old phone, you deserve a bloody medal all of you the amount of stuff you have to put up with!!!
...and Breathe........
this post is in no way directed at one or two of you, its directed to the people who demand, and basically want everything done for them and handed to them on a plate.
Bravo.
I could say more, but I'm pretty much over the stage of lazy, demanding n00bs (and some not so n00bs who should know better) giving me the ****s. I learned it's just not worth getting worked up about, because nothing will ever be done about it. I figure if TPTB don't care, why should I ? 'God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, etc, etc'
But you've absolutely nailed it (5 starred & OP thanked).
Agree with MistahBungle here, well written and 100% true.
I am a keen follower of the ROM NeatROM and you wont believe the amount of off-topic crap that appears there everyday.
I mean, i have seen some problems posted in this thread that remotely has nothing to do with Neatrom or any other ROM for that matter. Some guys have even starting to talk and discuss about whether they should flash .pit files or not.. <-- That has absolutely nothing to do with neatrom or any rom actually.
To make even matters worse.. everyday you just keep seeing the same question/issue posted, the posters dont even have the decency to search! Even with the custom search bar that searches only in the specific threads!
I feel bad for the NeatROM seniors that repeatedly have to answer the same question.. and be completely ignored when trying to control the chaos that is the NeatROM thread.
The sad truth of this is that no one who actually needs to read this will read it, and the same crappy cycle of ignorance will continue on until the Galaxy S2 forum bit by bit will die slowly and painfully.
