Wow! The Vibrant does well on AT&T :) - Vibrant General

I just plugged in my wife's iPhone SIM into the Vibrant to unlock, then ran the SpeedTest.net app.
I got 1209 kbps down and 347 kbps down in West LA.
Not bad, considering that at the same spot I get 400-600 kbps down and 700-1000 kbps up on t-Mobile.
Anyway, it means that the Vibrant can do perfectly adequately internationally.

And in West LA, with the spirent settings removed, the GPS works pretty good too!

Once I get my phone unlocked, I'll post my Canadian TMO Vibrant 3G scores.

How does LA get worse than Columbus, OH? Amount of people on the network?

Nice numbers! How many gma's are surfing the web down there?!

I get anywhere between 500kbps (1 bar) to 1200kbps (5 bars) download, and between 100-300 kbps (1 bar/5 bars respectively)
TMOs 3G is pathetic in this part of town (my home).

no, I used to live in Tampa. Bradenton / Sarasota is the gma's and gpa's

5462/1692, 66 ping. I'm down the street from TMO HQ in factoria washington.
5708/4215 51ms on wifi (comcast)
Ha, test server is in Bellevue up the street. Amusing.

1900MHz carriers are rarely used because AT&T has their network spaced out for 850MHz. 850MHz is probably the most overcrowded and slow.
For the record, 1900 is hardly "international"

the same can be said for AWS
LOL

Yeah T-Mobile either seems to be really fast, or just plain sucky. Luckily I live in a place where it's really fast

The TMO 3G situation at my place is quite amusing. I can get around 1-2mbps from where I am, but if I drive about 2 miles in one direction I'll get 4-5mbps easily. Go the opposite way 2 miles and I am lucky to get 700kbps. Would be great to see the backhaul to the surrounding towers upgraded a bit more.

4g Upload Speed?

As far as I can tell from reading around, WIMAX upload speeds are actually slower than that of EVDO speeds. In the age of sharing so much media including high-def pics and vids, doesn't this seem like a step back?

I don't see how 1-1.5mpbs up is slower than 100-300kbps up...
I guess i was looking at the peak speeds. My bad. It shows 1.8 Mbps peak upload for EVDO rev. a

I get about 2.5mbps down 800kbps up on my Hero, and I live in a VERY good area as far as data speeds go.
Sprint is capping upload to 1mbps on wimax. Honestly, I've never gotten more than 250 upload, even when I lived next to a tower Sprint used. I don't upload videos, so it doesn't bother me, but I'd like to once I get the epic.

I'm guessing since it's on a hero its 3g and not 4g right? Wasn't the topic about 4g upload?
Yeah it was, sorry. That's that I get for posting at 3am...
When switching from 3G to 4G my upload speed is multiplied 2- 3 times. However, my upload speed in 4G is only about 5- 10% compared to 3G
3G:
download: 1100kbps
upload: 900kbps
4G:
download: 2,500-3,500 kbps
upload: <80kbps
Have I missed a setting somewhere?
I have a tower less than a mile away, living in down-town Boston.
Thanks in advance,
arc

You must be on an edge of 4g coverage... or indoors or something all jacked up. My last 4G test out on the road was:
7223 down
1119 up (capped)

Just hit 3Mbps

for the first time since ive had sprint im getting the speed they've always claimed but ive never reached...im just wondering if anyone in and around pearland can tell me if they have similar speeds....i just know this isnt going to last but still a bit excited my 3g has never reached 3 or even crept past 1
I got 9 down in beverly hills yesterday with 4G, that was cool.
lol im so excited because well i have never seen 3Mbps on 3g on sprint, ive gotten 889kbps at most, i now this wont hold up for very long because if it could my 3g here wouldnt be so shoddy...this whole town is saturated in 4g and i cant get it on my evo for more then a min before losing it and my neighbor who has a franklin 4g stick gets 2bars and 500kbps on 4g...its ridiculous
I used to get 3 mbs down speed at the beginning of last year in the St. Louis area in 3g but its slower now but 4g is about 4.95 down now.

The speed test app isn't very accurate, download xtreme labs test app, its a bit more accurate, speakeasy website I think is better then speedtest.net and just like I figured my 3Mbps over 3g is back down to 600kbps
Best I ever got on 3G was about 2.6mbps. Got a little over 7 on 4G the other day in downtown Houston. Those 10+ speeds are awesome.

HOLY CRAPO!
Is that with 4G full bars?? thats bad, i get that with 3G in philadelphia, in center city I reached 9mbs early in the morning, then I average 4mbs-7mbs in 4G!!
The 3g in my area always runs at 1.5 to 2.3 but its a small town with not many sprint users.... Sadly I'll probably never see 4g

damn im lucky when i hit 1 Mbit/sec!
I can't wait until Lubbock gets 4G or I get to go back home to MD.

[Q] What 3G speeds are you getting? Is this normal?

My girl just got a D2G at my suggestions (since she's on verizon and NEEDED a keyboard and didn't really like the Merge).
I have run her 3G speed test a few times outside and she can't even get to 1mbps? That doesn't seem right to me. I'm on t-mobile '4g' and getting a minimum of 3mbps (up to 6mpbs), and while that's at the low end of '4g' it's trouncing her speeds. I thought 3g speeds were better than that, and I expected her to get 3mpbs on the high end and 1.5mbps on the low end.
We live in Albany, the capital city of NY... and have 3g coverage from all major carriers.
Anybody getting better speeds?

Yes, she turned her phone into a vagina.
Here in the big city of Topeka,KS I usually get around 1.5 mbps with my D2. Just ran a speed test on the iphone I tote around for work and it was a blazing 0.55 mbps.
Here in Central NJ I usually just leave it on wireless, but I just checked 3G speed and got a disappointing 0.87Mbps.
I'll be turning wireless back on now. Ah.. much better!
Ive got speeds of 1.5mb to 3.5
In in the cap city better known as Albany too and get good speeds over what you recorded either......might be something to let vzw know or try switching towers, might help.

General 3G Speeds

So, let's post what 3G speeds we get, and where (copying this thread after lurking around the Fascinate forum for a while).

Yea.. I get like 1.5Mbps on a good day.. Southern California, KA7
Try flashing the KB1 modem. I may not get as good battery as with KA7, but I do get MUCH better data speeds.
My average is 3-4 mbps, on a good day i can get 6 mbps. California area and modem is KA5-KA7.

I'm hearing all of this good stuff about KA5-KA7 modems... How is the battery life and how do they hold 3G? I know that KB1 will hold it for a while, but after it drops to 1 bar, I lose 3G and it drops to EDGE.
Well for me battery is the same with KA5-KB1 modems. But KB1 was really a nightmare for me, a lot of data drops.
I've noticed that with the KB1 modem. I just flashed the KA7 modem, and I'm actually holding data for once.
Here's what i have.

This is on KB1. I generally use KA7 because I work in the boonies and that holds the best signal for me out there. But this is for dang-a-lang swang-a-lang lol.
Here is mine. In McKinney, TX sitting here at work. Funny thing is, if I run this again right after this, I only get 1M down and 500k up? It's never consistent.
This is KB1

Town size and internet speed

Alright so after traveling around and experiencing wimax for the first time I came up with an idea.
In smaller towns the speed tests I took showed that they had under the .6 mbps required for 3g. Now the larger towns I was in scored at that mark or above. Now I had to pass through 8 places. Three of which were rather large and one was LA. The other had less than 50k people. To me it seems a lot of slow internet on phones are in the smaller regions.
Now this was just the test on my moat recent trip to the beach but I wkonder if anyone else had this realization.

well san antonio isnt exactly a small town and i still see sub 56k speeds most of the time.
the small towns in the hill country out here are the places where you can get decent 3g speed lol.

Ahhh well it is just the things I've noticed. Always getvbetter speeds when I go to a bigger town. In my town we have 30k people and I see needs fmof .3 mbps all the time , and answer thing with the towns I went through. Maybe its must my area
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It depends on how close you are to a(n internet) backbone as well as what speedtest server you are using. One of the internets major hubs is in LA so you should see pretty decent speeds there while some towns further out may have a ways to go before they can even get on the main part of the internet.
Think of it like one person living a block away from the interstate while another has to take side roads to get there.
edit: I got curious and found a newer map of Sprint's network. This should give you a pretty good idea of where you might get better speeds, just keep in there are a lot of other factors that can affect it too.

i do live in the middle of no where though.. might have something to do with it.
State capital of LA here. Below 50 kilobit is the norm in town. If I head out to fringe areas I can get 800-1000. I roam on VZW 3g quite a lot.
I live in a town of 5k people, about 25 miles east of Houston TX. I used to have AWESOME 3G speeds, up until about a month ago. Not exactly sure what happened, my thoughts are sprint used to use a Verizon town a few miles from my house and now it doesn't. I went to a Verizon PRL and speeds are back up
