DroidX Multi-touch keyboard for Froyo - Droid Eris Android Development

Hey gang,
Many people have been wanting the Droid X/2 Multi-touch keyboard on ARMv6 froyo roms, so I went and fixed it for everyone.
This APK should work on *ALL* Froyo roms both ARMv6 and ARMv7, and may work on Eclair as well(I've not tested it)
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
There are two files in the zip,
push libjni_latinime.so to /system/lib
push droidx-keyboard-kaosfix-v3.apk to /system/app/
Please let me know if you find any bugs, and we'll see if we can sort them out.
Thanks to Invisiblek for the original APK.

Kaos - when I go to launch it then it says Activity not found - com.android.inputmethod.latin
any ideas?

Did you reboot after installing it?

Thanks so much! I can finally stand texting on my phone

Sorry no.... (bag over head)

Downloaded and installed, works great!! Thanks!!

Sweet! I looked at this a few days ago and I couldn't get it working
Sent from my nonsensikal froyo

Thx kaos you da man
Launch and uninstall are my only options using astro

When I attempt to install, it gives me (2) buttons, "Uninstall" and "Launch". It thinks this app is already installed.... (it's not)
Is the "internal" package name the same as an existing (pre-installed) keyboard ? It comes up as "com.android.inputmethod.latin".

Yeah, the stock LatinIME.apk has the same internal name.
You may need to remove that before using this.

Edit: Spoke too soon not fixed after removal

Where is the stock APK located? this can't be removed using the regular uninstall method on the phone correct? it would need to be done via adb?

They're at /system/app/LatinIME.apk or /system/app/LatinImeGoogle.apk
Yes, adb is the easiest way.

brand new Rogers Dream no OSK :(

Hey guys I just got a Rogers Dream....running through these forums it seems to be the latest build of android
firmware:1.5
kernel: 2.6.27-9something
build:1.85.631.5
my problem is there is no on screen keyboard for it like the magic, is there any way to install it as an app? or where to find such and app? canada does notyet support $ apps
One question, is it enabled?
Go to Settings => Locale & text and make sure that Android Keyboard (or something similar) has a checkmark next to it.
there is no option on this phone for it under that address there is only the option "device keyboard" which only allows me to modify auto complete, capitalize and such seems this phone does not have it loaded on it
wow..unbelievable
Tell me about it I assumed that they were the same platform so the software would be interchangeable I guess its because no one would buy the magic if the dream had both keyboards....anyway anyone know where I can dowload a good on screen keyboard?
u might just have to modd the os....n get one of these roms....
can't you just install the keyboards found here as an apk? There is a thread started by funbacon which has a KB- key.apk and i know i have previously installed it as an apk (ie. just using app installer0- no special instructions)...... give that a go.
There's a bunch of virtual keyboards on the market. Just download one.

how do you install the .apk file without having root access??? currently there is no way to root the Rogers versions. I've read that AppsInstaller can install .apk files, but can AppsInstaller be installed on non-rooted devices? or at least Rogers ones (which are different than other G1s?)
well the file posted worked perfectly I'm not going to mess with the ROM on this phone i just installed it using the appsinstaller application so i guess your misinformed about the phone being rooted to install .apk's i have done several already. Since I'm in canada we don't have access to many of the good apps is there a place where I can download .apk files?

There are libs attached to it too jroid that may not be backwards compatible with 2.0. On alldroid there is a thread about it, but not much progress.

A lot of roms can run live wallpapers, but the real problem is finding one that will work on the magic 32b or dream.
That said, does anyone know of perhaps a list of wallpapers confirmed to run smoothly on the more modest android devices?
I think this...

LWPs just aren't worth it, the home screen is already slow enough, why bog it down even more and reduce your battery life at the same time. I can see how they're feasible for high-end devices, but not first-get armv6 devices.
Live wallpapers work fine on G1 and mytouch running OTA
Here's how
Uninstall any livepicker.apk
I put the com.android.wallpaper.livepicker.apk on my sd card and re-named it "live.apk" for simplicity then:
open up better terminal and run:
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/live.apk /system/app
reboot
I ran a fix_permissions as well..

It's just that it's probably one out of every 6 or 7 and is frustrating to weed them out.

I'm not sure I understand fix_permissions? Is that another command in terminal? Does my myTouch have to be rooted? Also, is the livewallpaperpicker.apk yoshua posted in this thread what you used?
Thanks!
fix_permissions can be done with a custom recovery, terminal (though you might need busybox?) or in rom manager.
Any livewallpaperpicker.apk should work

New Market 2.2.10 apk

Here ya go guys, it's Market v2.2.10. It installed and runs perfectly on my Crackflashers AOSP Gingerbread ROM. It's also fixed some issues where I would have to download something five or six times before it would install.
Parse error. Please post in a zip.

Here you go.
Blackrose, how did you install it?
I tried using Root Explorer to rename Vending.apk to Vending.apk.bak and then installing the file. I rebooted, but started getting FCs. I tried restoring the old Market but ended up needing to NANDroid. I am running Salvage Mod 9.6.
None of these are working.
Tried these and several others found around xda.. apparently its also being pushed to Nexus S. None of them work. Tried copying to /system/app and /data/app None of them in either place works.
Using stock 2.2 3.70 rooted rom.

I'm guessing it's because it was specifically designed for Gingerbread.
You have to push it via ADB..
ex..
adb push yourpathname\com.android.vending-1.apk /data/app
This worked for me.

I pushed this one via ADB, and while it opens and things look ok, as soon as I tap on a product I get an FC.
Is there something that needs to be done to initialize it? I did clear all the market settings before trying it.
Solution
Its not really much of a solution, more like an insight.
The reason why no one can install the market is because you flashed a rom without the market, then installed a newer version of gapps. The newer version of gapps assumes you updated and still have the market apk installed. The gapps file only includes the apk to update the market app.
Flash an older copy of gapps and then boot your phone. Run the setup and then flash an updated gapps. You now have the updated market.
Also anyone that was having the home button not working issue, this resolves it. Home button stopped working as a result of the above issue. You may have to install a rooted stock rom and then flash cm 6.1.2 and then your kernel and then the gapps in the above order.

uninstall swype using system app remover or Titanium backup.
go to http://beta.swype.com/
You will notice it says the new version will not work if swype is already pre-installed on your phone by the manufacturer.
If you try to install you will get an error.
Use astro to navigate to the root directory of your phone. navigate to /system/lib/ and delete libSwypecore. I believe that file is put in place to prevent you from using a new/updated version of swype.
Proceed to follow the link that was emailed to you when you registered on beta.swype.com.
I was able to get a swype board working with dk28 by removing the original sype stuff manually and copying in the new stuff.
I just installed it, it doesn't ad much feature wise, but it does perform very smooth. Its more accurate and stable than the stock Swype.
Here is how to install it.
Go here on your computer and register for Beta:https://beta.swype.com/android/create/
After you register, delete Swype from your phone (must be rooted). Go to system/app using RootExplorer and delete Swype.apk. Then go to system/lib and delete libSwypecore.so
Next, go to https://beta.swype.com/ on your phone. Login and download Swype Installer. Launch it when its done, and follow the on screen instructions. It will ask you to login and license Swype.
Once this is finished, enable Swype, and you are done!
And yes it does work as i'm running it now.
Does this mean I'll have to reinstall the beta over and over once the trial runs out? And what exactly does this update do different than my current version?

Yes. Betas expire and then it becomes a perpetual nuisance. Experienced it with the Moment and am glad to have a stock version.
I am not saying doing it is bad. Some people don't mind and I am not judging anyone's actions as negative in that regard. My personal choice is that I'm tired of doing that.
Anyone tried this on EB13 yet? i'm about to upgrade to EB13 and plan on trying this after

We're not allowed to give you it as it's a paid app and if you did want the stock version, you'd have to install a rom that has the stock version (syndicate, Bonsai). It's the only reason I left MidNIGHT rom.
