Changing ROM - HD Mini General

Hello, sorry if I sound nieve with any of this. I am new to flashing etc...
Basically I have an O2 branded HTC HD Mini and would like to know the easiest way of upgrading the ROM, to the current one recentely released from HTC. The HTC help team have basically told me that O2 don't own any rights for HTC updates so none of their updates will work on an O2 branded phone!
Please help.
Thankyou, Trev

In a nutshell, unfortunately you can't do it easily.
You can use SoftSPL to allow you to install a downloaded ROM but it wont update the radio ROM or you could use the Gold Card method, but currently there is a minimum purchase of $30 for Gold Cards.
Your first step is to download a ROM from Conflipper's site then decide how you want to proceed. Or download Tom Codon's excellent cooked ROM!

Unbranding HD Mini
Hi dude. I just flashed my Dads Vodaphone branded HD Mini to the latest HTC ROM. I followed the guide ''[SSPL][DFT] HowTo flash custom OS'' in the ROM Development section.
After that the phone was unbranded. The only problem was that I wasn't recieving a signal. After looking at the Radio version I found that it wasn't showing a version so I assume the Radio wasn't installed.
I fixed this by using the SSPL (the program that you used to flash the official ROM with) to flash HTC's updated version. What you need to do is download the Update for HTC HD mini intermittent audio muting and extract the .exe (using winRAR) to find the Radio_32.2806.05.06_0.63.05.40.nbh. Put this into the same folder with the SSPL and rename it to PHOTIMG.nbh. Once done you can flash it to your device.
This worked fine for me. Call quality is perfect. This removed all Vodaphone's branding and gave me back Copilot and the added extra's that HTC put in. I'll be writing a full guide on how to do this later on.

Trying to flash my HTC HD Mini (O2) to RUU_Photon_HTC_Europe_1.36.401.1_Radio_Signed_32.2 803.05.06_0.63.05.36_Ship.exe
(Currently got RUU_Photon_O2_UK_1.10.206.1_Radio_Signed_32.28.05. 05_0.63.05.18_Ship.exe installed)
But just keep getting error 'invalid vendor ID'
What to do????? can I change vendor ID ??
Having read about Goldcard, I'm guessing that this is what I need to do. Have looked at PSAS and would need to pay 30eur - is there a cheaper way? What about these unlock services that will send you an unlock code based on your IMEI number, would this change vendor ID to ubranded (normally about £12)???

Look in the ROM Development section on this forum and you'll find a guide on how to unbrand the HD Mini. Follow this guide and hopefully it'll work for you.

Nothing works for my O2 one. I think O2 have started doing something odd?
I've noticed that people seem to find it easy with Vodafone, but numerous problems with O2. There doesnt see mto be a definitive guide for unlocking O2 ones specifically - is Goldcard the only option at 30euro? Does anyone offer a Goldcard type serice for cheaper?

Sorry for what? Normally it is not necessary to open a new threat for any question that you might have, just join the different threats about a particular subject.
I guess you are new to all this upgrading stuff. First of all, and most important, is to find out whether your device is cid-locked or not. I think that it is safe to say that when you got your device through a telephone provider, like Orange or T-Mobile, at a very cheap price, then the device is locked and you should have it unlocked before flashing any ROM (except the official ones that you can download from your providers site). When you bought your device retail, at the full price (the Artemis is sold around 500 euro's), then the device is not locked.
Upgrading itself can be pretty straightforward: just establish an ActiveSync connection, run the <ROM name>.exe from your pc and follow the instructions on your screen.

Unfortunately, no, not really. On older HTC models you could find out by running the mtty tool, but it doesn't work on the Artemis. I read somewhere that on our device that whole locking (and unlocking) method is quite different than on other models. That is also why it seems so hard to develop a free unlock tool for the Artemis.
The only way you can be absolutely sure is by running the unlock tool from imei-check, but they will charge you for it.
If you just THINK that your device might be unlocked, then I would not recommend to try flashing any other than an official ROM. Of course, it is your choice and you might want to take the risk. That risk is that your phone will become 'bricked' and won't start normally. The only way out of that situation is returning it to the seller to have it restored. Some people with a bricked phone however are able to restore it themselves with the original ROM, so make sure that you have that ROM available. Some original ROMs can be found on the internet, but not all of them.
sorry but you said

Just connect the USB, let activesync make the connection and start the BAT file in the dir of the rom... wait 30min

Andreazzo,
Your Artemis, does it have a logo on the body. A logo from maybe T-mobile, Orange, Vodafone, O2 or whatever telecom provider?
If yes, the you shouldn't flash your device with v2.00.02 PV for HTC Artemis ( Crossbow Style ), because the chances are that you will brick it.
If your P3300 only has the HTC logo, then it is fully unlocked and you can flash whatever rom (flavor) you want for the Artemis.
So be aware of the fact. The life of your P3300 is in your hands.
This it is not probably true information. This it is not to end rule
My Artemis he had only logo on body. The logo of start take-off was the only HTC also. No trace T Mobile Orange O2 Vodafone. And I have brick. :{
I tried flash by bootloader however still announcement INVALID ID
Follow for voice grun. get rid (remove) CID - will not it be dust brick as I.

Telstra HTC HD - Flashing the ROM

I have a Telstra branded HD and wanted to know if anyone has tried flashing the ROM on one of these to a standard ROM?
If so, which one did you use to flash the ROM?
Not that I know anything about flashing ROM's and the phone is only a day old so I am a little worried about trying it.
The first thing I suppose.....is there anyway of backing up the ROM and anything else needed to return the phone to a Telstra branded ROM for warranty purposes if required.
I am at my wits end with this phone in it's current form as I am trying to run it with a vodafone SIM, so all the Telstra shortcuts and websites don't work anyway, that and the Telstra tab seems to replace the weather tab with the current ROM.
I suppose I had better see if I can search the forum for instructions on flashing ROM's for dummies....anyone know a good thread?
Flashing a ROM is not difficult its flashing an spl that is scary(since if you mess up or if your device shuts off while its in the process you have a brick in your hands now, with a rom all you need to do is try again.), also if you want it to be at stock condition if you want to revert back to the original ROM, then use USPL, doesn't change the spl. You have to dump the ROM from the device and then you save it some where safe, then you flash a ROM of your choice. Its not that hard to initiate the process though, since its basically the same for all the devices, if you search around here on the forum for a guide then that should do you some good , but since I am nice here are some useful links.
Guide to flashing:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Flashing Guide
USPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462347
HSPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431217
List of cooked ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=464463
Awesome, thanks for that, I am off to do some reading, one quick question...
On the first guide it says I need to CID-unlock the phone, it that what USPL and HSPL can do for me?
Yea, you don't have to cid unlock since its not available for the Blackstone yet.
Just HardSPL'd my Telstra BLAC120?
I've just used HardSPL on my Telstra Touch HD which is a BLAC120? Is it safe to continue flashing ROM's or can I somehow go back to the original SPL? Then use USPL?
The phone is still in working order after the HardSPL Flash.
Cheers,
-Lucus
HSPL is perfectly fine, but if you want it to be like stock(for warranty purposes), just use USPL to flash the original spl back. You are perfectly fine how you are Lucus Maximus.

This is making my head spin.....been reading and downloading and I am getting very confused, once it all falls into place I am guessing it is going to be easy.
Right I would like to dump the existing ROM and flash with a new one....I need to confirm the steps and what is required.
CID-Unlock the phone, from what you said I don't need to worry about this part
1. Run USPL - have downloaded v2.4...should be good to go
2. What is RUU Update as it mentions it in the instructions for USPL
3. I am guessing at this point I need to backup the existing ROM, not sure how this is done
3. Then the guide says to download the new ROM and run the exe and follow the steps.....sounds easy enough
Some of the guides don't really explain much.....anyway I am thinking of giving it a go.
So do you flash radio's and splash screens using the same method.
Sorry for all the questions (I am guessing you have heard them all before, but I can't find a thread from a ROM flashing virgin like me with all the info), I have been reading, but gets a little confusing after a while.
Ok, RUU update is just the .exe file to use the .nbh(rom file) so it can start flashing.
Hmmm. . . . . .if I had any htc device right now I would make a video guide. . . .
It takes like 2 times for you to get used to flashing a phone, don't worry we have all been there .

Thanks for that....right now to go and find myself a new ROM.
Just out of interest, which ROM did you use Lucas?
Been looking at this.......
Dutty's ROMS
What is the difference with these:
HD V1.7 5.2.20769.1.4.5 Full CVSD WWE
HD V1.7 5.2.20769.1.4.5 Full MSVC WWE
I am yet to work out all this ROM talk......I am guessing WWE is the English version, but what is "CVSD" & "MSVC"
Oh and how do I work out what radio version these ROMS use to make sure it is the same as the one I have
When you turn on your device, look at the red R and see what it says, then when you flash a ROM with a different radio, just re flash yours.(same process as flashing a ROM but easier, and there are different radios available to DL).

FAQ: What are CVSD and MSVC.
Solution: CVSD is Cyberon Voice Speed Dial which is mostly the default voice application in most shipped ROMs. MSVC is Microsoft Voice Command which is an advance voice application from MS.
I tried Black Pearl, but most things I've read are saying that Dutty's is the best, so giving that a go now.
As long as I can get all the telstra site settings working I'll stick with it otherwise it's back to the Telstra ROM untill I can find out a way to get it all working.
-Lucus
Too easy, flashed the ROM to Duttys v1.7
Now to go and find all the missing ring tones and stuff, I think I saw something in a thread about Dutty having extra cabs to install this stuff...
I would recommended this to anyone who is trying to run the Telstra branded HD on anything other than the Telstra network.
Getting there now, I have managed to download all the ringtones and stuff, so I have more than the 3 ringtones supplied with the ROM
Where is this MSVC that is supposed to be part of the ROM???
Off to search some more and see what other software I can find.
This has made the Telstra branded HD a lot better, all Telstra branding has gone, including splash screen and the phone actually works now, can get POP3 email, Internet, Exchange email etc without an issue.
The first thing it did was set the phone up for the correct Network as soon as I put in the SIM and powered it up....great!
Well I was really pissed off with the HD with all the Telstra branding and was at the point of returning the HD and going back to the iPhone, but now things are starting to look up......we will see how things go.

Yep, all you needed to do is change the ROM, you didn't need to return anything. It was just the shipped ROM that's all.
Thanks again for your help....
Still trying to find the MSVC app in Dutty's ROM v1.7???
I downloaded the MSVC version, but can't see the application
great info here guys, just got my HD the other day and dislike all the Telstra branding. one question though before I begin changing ROM's, did you guys finally end up getting the weather tab to work, or the "customize tabs" option in the settings tab?
cheers,
Ditto! Can someone pls confirm Dutty's ROM has weather+stocks tab etc? And can someone who downloaded the Telstra ROM off HTC please mirror it somewhere? (attach here or mediafire it etc). Or if anyone has an official Blackstone rom from another region that would be good too... many thanks!

Is there a Orange ROM upgrade?

Have Touch HD from Orange.
Tried to update ROM from HTC site.
Put SNo in but would not reconise it.
Is there a work round or a copy on your site that works?
Orange Touch seems to have minimum Orange changes anyway in ROM.
Or as Orange its own ROM upgrade hiding some where.
I also have a Touch HD from Orange. Although I got this when it was first released so appears to have no Orange software installed, my SN is also not recognised on the HTC website. I called Orange about the ROM upgrade who said they have not released one and weren't able to tell me if they have any plans to. They also said that if I install any ROM other than one from Orange themselves that it will invalidte the warranty. I explained to them that as the new ROM includes various fixes they should release it - it's like having Windows XP/Vista and not being able to download any bug fixes.
From reading various messages on this forum I believe there are workarounds by using a different serial in order to get the ROM from the HTC site although I'm not happy about invalidating my warranty so I'm going to hold off for the time being and hope that Orange release something soon.
Easy workarounds guys if you read the forums & wiki
You can load USPL or latest Hard SPL (see signature) and then flash new roms on HTC site or cooked roms on here. Read up on both of these first in wiki
If you ever need to return phone you can return to your stock HTC rom. All stock roms can be found here.
If you are unsure about procedure to flash roms you can read up in wiki or follow cRaCKwHoRe's guide (see signature)
Hope this helps

i tried mine too!
i ended up putting the new rom anyway with a different serial number and using the uspl flash mentioned above.
found the device to be faster and i got a better signal at home. did not know that it would void the warranty! sure you could get the orange rom back from a forum search and re-install it prior to being sent away

Dear Sir do you mean that if I get an Orange branded HD will I able
to unbranded it (which method I'll follow) and install any ROM I want
from HTC or custom?
I have also tried to update from the HTC web site but also fails to detect my serial number??
Anyone know of another serial number I can use to get the download or know where to download it from?
Do Orange usually release firmware updates for HTC's they sell?
Usually - but often months "late"
I wouldn't hold your breath for 6.5 either seeing as the HD doesn't have a windows button.
I'm keen on 6.5 too but don't want to invalidate any warranty I have.

What CID Lock do I have?

Hi all,
first of all appologies if I am posting this in the wrong place but I don't think it quite belobgs in ROM development .
My question is basicaly how do I find out what CID lock is on my HD2?
I bought the phone sim unlocked and all is fine. It works fine with my Virgin sim (UK). I would like to upgrade to the latest official ROM as I don't feel ready to experiment with cooked ROMs just yet.
However when I log on to the HTC web site and try to download a ROM it says "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
I have tried it from both the UK and Europe web sites but get the same result.
The current rom shows no branding of any sort, also there is non on the phone itself.
Is it CID locked to an operators SIM's? If so how do I find out which and will I be able to get a ROM from them if I don't use them?
Or will I have to go the HSPL route and go cooked roms?
Any Help or guidance greatly appreciated.
Regards
Clive
There are truely unlocked phones, and then there are those unlocked but the serial numbers are blocked on request of the service provider. Vodafone, O2 and (I'm guessing) Virgin do this so you can only upgrade when they OK the ROM release.
You can install HSPL which gets around all that and lets you explore the wonderful world of cooked ROMs...read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
ROM lock and SIM lock are not the same and not connected.
If the HTC website says invalid serial, then the ROM is locked. (Probably to Virgin, if that's where you got it from) and you must wait for them (virgin) to release the update. That is the ONLY way to install a new rom without using HSPL/SSPL
EDIT - Oh, and your line "Or will I have to go the HSPL route and go cooked roms?", , , , HSPL isn't just for cooked roms, it will let you install official HTC roms too, if you want, not just cooked ones.
I didn't get it from Virgin, my SIM is Virgin and that's what I put in it. I bought it privately. I'm guessing then it is CID Locked to Vodaphone or the like.
OK so it looks like HSPL is the route to go?
If I want to install an official HTC ROM how can I download it as I have to enter my serial number and it gets rejected? Are they available elsewhere?
Am I likely to loose anything (apart from guarantee ) by installing latest HTC rom and any advice on which one? I guess by that I mean EU or UK versions?
Thanks for the replies by the way much appreciated
Its pretty important that you know who it was locked to, because to uninstal HSPL, or to fix it if things go bad, the very best thing to have available is the stock rom. As for losing guarantee, if you bought it privately then you already lost that, right?

Pretty much although I could send it back through the seller.
Is there way way I can get a copy of the current ROM/SPL out of my phone and save it as a backup?

ROM Not Suitable??

Hi guys, hopeful someone can help me...
I have the weird HTC Sense not loading problem at the moment and was about to Hard reset when i thought i may as well update my rom instead!!
I checked to see if my device was locked to Vodafone earlier by borrowing a friends Orange Sim and it work fine, connected to orange and allowed me to make a call....
So i assumed i could just download the latest Rom from HTC website and install... but i enter my S/N and it tells me that the update isnt suitable for my device!!
Anybody have any ideas?? If i get hold of this Rom and install it will it mess my phone up or is the website being dumb?? Or should i grab one of the custom Roms??
Funk
Are you on VF UK? If so you need to get the ROM from them here:
http://devicehelp.vodafone.co.uk/firmwaredevice.php?ModelID=424&e=0
OR you can go down the cooked ROM route, following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Yes i am on UK VF....
Thanks a lot for the link, downloading it now.. I thought i could get any update as it would let the Orange Sim work. Does that not mean its unlocked??
Thanks again for the quick response!!
Funk
It's SIM unlocked but HTC/VF have vendor locked it - basically you have to wait for VF to release the ROM to get it (unless you go down the HSPL route)...In was lucky enough to get my HD2 from Dial-A-Phone completely generic so I can get all updates from HTC direct
Ah ok, that clears that up for me thanks...
Cant see why Manufacturers bother if the sim is unlocked?? but at least they have released the latest.
Funk
Just upgraded to Artemis rom (thanks to sternas) and sense works again and phone better than ever with all the included tweeks.
