So I've only had my phone a week or so and I haven't noticed this lag everyone seems so concerned about it. When does it occur?

I've tried a few and found Chainfire's to be the best so far (v1.8).

I can't say I noticed a ton of lag before trying any of these fixes (although I do have ~200 apps installed) but after CF's fix my phone just flies.

Mines just as fast as the video without the fix, I came from a n1 with 2.2 on cyanogen rom and this phone is just as fast. I've been running this same rom since release, rooted and have over 120 apps installed. My market is easily just as fast as the dudes video in the OP.... maybe I'm lucky, or I don't know. I did a fix and didn't realize a difference .
I'd like to see a side by side comparison with a sgs with the lag fix and one without... then again I don't have a gps issue either, well its useable easy.. use it daily.

Still getting slow down while installing/updating apps in Froyo

While doing this in 2.1 I got pretty bad lag. I was hoping Froyo would improve this but it appears to be the same.
While a app is installing or updating and I do something else in the process the slowdown is definitely noticeable. Once the installation is done, all the slowdown is gone.
Is this the same case for everybody? I thought the Nexus was powerful enough to handle something like this.
I get this same lag too, but it only seems to start happening in the last few weeks. Maybe I just never noticed it before. I haven't upgraded to froyo yet BTW.

Yeah its a bummer . Its a little annoying knowing how powerful the Nexus is.

Market Lagginess

Hey everyone, Picked up a Vibrant last night, but ive run into an interesting issue.
The market is SOOO laggy. It takes up to 30 seconds to go between the main Market screen and the download screen (without any spinner). No data is going up or down, during that process. Also, when downloading\installing an app...it takes another 30 seconds or so after I hit install for the Okay or cancel options to come up (they came up instantly on my G1).
I cleared all my market cache, market downloader, etc and I am rooted.
Anyone w/ a suggestion or advice. This market issue is really a deal killer, as it takes like 5 minutes to install an app, let alone do several updates.
Thanks!
Seriously.....no one is having issues w/ the market lagging hardcore?
No issues here.

Not this bad, no.. but it does spend too much time on the loading page.
I noticed that too. it was on my Nexus too, I thought there was something wrong with the ROM, but now its on Vibrant as well. It was never this bad about a month ago.....
Same issue here, at first it was really, really bad and I had some other general lagginess. I did a factory reset and that seemed to help. It still has lag when compared to my MT3G Slide, but it definitely improved. I read somewhere that a lot of this lag is caused by the way the memory partitions are set up. Not sure about that though. Hopefully a firmware update with fix a lot of these issues. Fingers crossed.

Well maybe its not unique to the vibrant?

I believe this has a lot to do with the stalling issue that was reported before. I did experience the market lagginess you're talking about, but its gone now after applying the app data storage fix. This fix is a temporary solution until Samsung has something official.
Link: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=727279
(Sorry I couldn't post the full link because the moderator won't allow new users to post a link)
Interestingly enough, I attempted to isolate this issue, and I found it doesnt happen on a non-rooted phone, but as soon as I root it, the issue reoccurs. Very strange, considering rooting this phone does very little to it. Anyone w/ similar results? I will try the app data fix until Samsung makes something official, but at this point, the market is barely usable. I am even considering returning the phone if I cant get the results improved before the 30day grace period is up (although I really dont want to...this phone is great otherwise)
I also noticed that downloads never finish according to the market, they say "installing" indefinently, even though a "app was successfully installed" notification appeared, and the app can be run.
I have not had this issue on my vibrant, however on 3g it does take alot long to load as expected i guess, but I have not experience what you are, my vibrant is rooted as well and i have not applied the stall fix
I've noticed a little lag with the market right before I got my Vibrant using my Nexus One.
Well, glad others are having similar issues and its not just me. I am using WiFi to ensure 3g isnt causing the lag, and Ive completely wiped everything in order to try and diagnose this issue. Please post any suggestions or tips you have found helpful, thanks!

I have had lagging issues, but not in the Market and certainly not as bad as you. I finally just rooted and applied the fix to move apps to NAND and my lagging issues have subsided a lot. Just wanted to let you know that I have had no Market lagging issues at all - rooted or unrooted.

For those concerned about Vibrant's speed

I don't get it. I have compared my Vibrant to my Nexus one and 95% of the time the Vibrant is just as fast. Two exceptions, the market and speedtest.net app. Other than that, it flies! I will say before I did a hard reset the phone was in fact slow, it was a day and night difference after the reset. I get no lag, fast swipe through screens with TW launcher and apps open fast!
I have no lag that I can notice, but then again I don't bog my phones down with a ton of apps and games I will never use.
No lag. Stock rom, haven't factory resetted either. No GPS problems either without GPS fix o.0
Guess I was just lucky. I applied lag fix for the benchmarks for the hell of it though.
How speedy a device feels is very subjective and varies under different conditions.
I do have a Nexus One too ( in fact two) and in some respects it feels more responsive (mostly the menu, home, back and search button). Applications open faster as well.
Now, the comparison is not fair, ad the N1 is running Froyo and doesn't have the bloatware services installed by TMo (visual voicemail, my account, et al)
Browser and rendering speeds are much faster in the vibrant. Noticeably.
Download speed are much faster in the vibrant as well. Using Speedtest.net the vibrant scores 6 mbs vs 2 on the N1, same place, same time, same servers.
I think the biggest issue with the vibrant (other than the compass and the gps) is filesystem access, probablu due to using a large flash-based memory for storing apps.
I expect that when (if) the Froyo update arrives, the phone will fly.
In the meantime, and depending which apps people have installed and how they use the phone, some will continue to have better experiences with the N1, others with the vibrant.

I don't have an N1 to compare to, but, there was definitely a lag. Tolerable most of the time, but it would be completely frozen during a single install of an app from market. And don't get me started on a phone reboot. I wish I had timed it to be exact, but it must have been 5 entire minutes from reboot to when I could open and actually use the camera again to record something. Opera loads probably twice (maybe 2.5 times) as fast. Engadget would literally take 5 seconds to come up and at *least* 5 seconds *per page* to load, if not more. I would hit the arrow and have to wait..and wait..and wait. Now, I can hit the arrow repeatedly and it scrolls through news (both new and old)
Maybe not all phones lagged, but mine certainly did. Hope froyo helps some so I'm not forced to run a hack to get around poor rfs performance (or whatever it is).

Would really like to know when people without gps or speed problems got their phones. I bought mine the 19th of July from costco.
Also, the, "take off all your apps and games you don't use regularly. Don't use any widgets on your screens. Don't use all 7 screens for apps or widgets" comments are counterproductive. The phone was DESIGNED for this kind of use and if it doesn't perform as designed. Well, that's a problem.
One more thing - people like me who post about perceived problems are not HATERS. I love the phone and its potential with future upgrades to the software and firmware. That's why I come to this forum, to gets thoughts from the android community. Besides, if everyone who loved the phone and had zero problems with it posted all the time there would be no room for those of us seeking advice.

I wanted to say that I did the lag fix via the update.zip method and everything flies now including the Geniewidget which would rarely load articles. Samsung needs to or has fixed this (not sure, we don't know until we get an official update) but.. I can use the TWLauncher now.
Coming from a G1 I don't see any lag compared to what I was used to. Running Launcher Pro I personally feel its a bit smoother than TW 3.0, but still works perfectly fine for me.
I often wonder if people just look for something to tweak because they simply can't leave things alone and constantly want to improve because they simply can.

There is some lag that was very noticeable which happened every time you tried to use the market place and some random apps(the market was faster on my mt3g before the lag fix), after the lag fix the loading screen is gone if not instant.
Just did this update and I went from 983 to 2187! Awesome difference!

Same story for me. I've never seen this lag that everyone is talking about (except for the one person that mentioned some lag when installing apps - EVERY Android phone lags for a few seconds while an app is installing). I run the standard TW home and rooted and uninstalled a few of the bloatware apps I'd never use. Don't really see any reason to do the "lag fix".

What is "lag", and how does it present itself?

Ok, so stock Vibrant "lag". What does this mean, precisely? I'm a rooted but otherwise stock JI6, and I don't see any lag anywhere on the phone.
If I were to be experiencing this lag, what would it look like?

Get Xscope V5 (V6 is buggy) browser for free x-labs.net and use it for a day or two. Notice how slow it loads webpages sometimes. Or try Miui Browser (not in market) GUI lags a little too
The LAG that most people are talking about is when you switch windows or open a new app. Sometimes when doing this, the phone will seem to freeze for a moment before going to the new app or page.
With Voodoo lagfix, I have not seen this happen once, where with stock it happened all the time.
If you have rooted your phone and gone down the mod rabbit hole, lagfix is well worth it.
I installed a LagFix recently like I did months ago and saw no huge change in performance (barely any change really) This "lag" problem is about as overblown as it could be. Firefox runs as smoothly as it can (it's not that smooth, beta and needs 40MB of ram on my phone. JFD firmware was did have some lag issues though that we're a problem. Some serious lag was solved by a factory reset or by reloading the OS. The lagfix isn't worth the reduced app space or lesser reliability. If you have no problems with how your phone is running, don't bother with any hacks like that.
Some people randomly got major lag when updating from JFD to JI6. A data wipe solves it.. and they couldn't be happier.
The 'lag' that you see people complaining about does not happen on all phones, all the time.
And I need to remind you to be careful about installing any lagfix. Read up on what it does and how it may affect your phone BEFORE installing it.

Agreed, you might think the phone is fast now but when you install the lag fix you'll definately notice a difference.
It amazed me when I had to go back to stock (after soft bricking my phone) and I had to install rom manager from the market while everything was stock and it was crazy how slow it was.

Am interested in seeing said video.
Here is a video I took a while back. I'd be interested in seeing the lag. I know someone with a DROID X, behavior is exactly the same when opening apps. It was the same when I installed the lag fix.

I'm on stock JI6, non-rooted.
I think what I'm experiencing is considered lag.
It doesn't happen all the time but it is annoying when it does.
Sometimes it'll take 10 seconds for an app to launch.
It's especially bad if I have more than a couple of apps going at the same time.
Some of this can be worked around, keeping as few apps going as possible. I don't use a task killer, I just back out of apps instead of switching home and keeping the app in memory.
There are certain apps where it seems to be worse in.
The Facebook app is horrible to the point where I don't use it but I'm not sure if that's the app or the phone. I can't scroll a page without the phone locking up for 3-4 seconds. Clicking on anything takes about 3-5 seconds for it to register.
I'm pretty disappointed in Samsung in general with their software. The hardware is great, the software just sucks.
One of these days I'll get around to installing another ROM.

You obviously have something else going on here.. Facebook runs with no problems on my phone. If you flash another rom everything will be wiped, just the same as what I said above. The FB app taking 10 seconds to load and locking up the phone is NOT normal behavior.

I think you're right. It doesn't make sense that facebook would be so bad.
Everything else is pretty much okay.
I think I'm going to try one of the other ROMs. Just need to find some time.
Also, I'm dreading having to go through the whole process of reinstalling and reconfiguring everything. I might have to try titanium backup so that I don't have to do that.

potrait in 3.2!

i just found that launcher in 3.2 is now as smooth s butter when running at potrait mode. browser speed is also increased slightly. great news to xoom owners
Yeap, in portrait is working really smooth now, I did not use the browser jet... hahahaha
Just one thing, when you change from portrait to landscape or otherwise it still takes some time to adapt, a few seconds but after that... it goes really smooth....
I did tried some mkv files, but they did not work fine for me... I have seen other users that tried them and work fine for them.. I do not know why...
What about upside down? It used to lag badly upside down.

Its typically on desktop during screen rotation. I know I'm not the only one whose experienced it, I've seen it mentioned a few times before. Its really odd because being upside down should be no different, at least I assume.

You're definitely not the only one. It was a known issue. Happy to say it's fixed now. Though there's a part of me that still wonders how an issue like that ever made it into a major release in the first place.
i think it turns ALOT faster now. Like, I dont mind turning it because it barely takes time anymore.

It was explained at Google I/O I think. Basically Tegra 2 couldn't handle rotation, so they were forced to do it in software. They've probably come up with some clever tricks to optimize things since then, thus the boost in performance.
i still get lag in launcher at portrait mode. not as bad as before, but still lagging.
On the other hand, its very smooth upside down.

yeah now that I've installed 3.2 I don't see much of a difference at all. Still too laggy for me.
