One Hand Zoom on X10 - XPERIA X10 General

Is there really an update for the one finger zoom in x10?
I know, i read a lot of articles, i saw a lot of videos.. but the articles are unofficial and they are just assuming since x10 mini already got it. and the videos are just from the market, an SE APP.
Did i miss something? did SE mentioned that there will be one soon? are people are just assuming?
as far as i know, the designer (album designer) of x10 mini, is different from the designer of x10's mediascape.
IF I JUST MISSED IT, and there is an official announcement, when it will be implement? in Q3 together with 2.1? in Q4 together with UXP improvement? or in 2011?
*** I MEAN ONE FINGER ZOOM.. lol

You can use JustPictures for one touch zoom in gallery.

New panels coming

This is encouraging news for those of us waiting for new official panels:
http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=6338
The skype one sounds very interesting!
Woohoo, can't wait!
I'm looking forward to the 'On The Road' one, hopefully it will be very finger-friendly. Slightly strange panel concept though what with the whole 'using a phone whilst driving is kinda dangerous' thing!
thank god.. they do care
It's a Sony...
And I am a PC
1- Skype VoIP panel (Vodafone will ban it for sure LOL)
2- "On the road" finger-friendly panel for easy access to main features at a a galce while busy with other tasks (driving ??)
3- CNN news Panel (I've been witing for this particular one)
4- Mytopia panel (did I hear "lack of games" anybody ??)
Only problem is 9 slots won't be enough
BTW SONY also announced the release of it's new SE Idou phone with a TWELVE POINT FRICKIN' ONE megapixel camera, symbian OS, WiFi & 3.5" touch screen (Barcelona, Mobile World Congress SE press release today)
And W995 Walkman with 8 mpx camera as well.... They move forward...!
thats great new panels are coming even though i just use the one panel from sony that suits pretty much all my needs. other than the xda forum, i just would like to see continuing support from sony for the x1.

If you want to compare symbian vrs winmo this thread is gonna explode in flames
Don't want to go off topic, just a sggestion:
Check bengalboy's forum, he made some interesting symbian/winmo deathmatches in the past, mostly between Sony Symbiand devices and HTC winmo devices

Why do you love that camera? We haven't even seen the sample pictures yet so who knows what the quality is like. Please don't assume higher pixel automatically equals better quality. As with the past SE camera phones, that is definitely not the case.

The multitouch mess

There is confirmation from an unofficial site that multitouch might not be an hardware mess after all.

I can't belive a company as big as SE would produce a flagship phone and use a 3yr old touchscreen, I would have thought it has a Clearpad2000 or 3000 fitted to it and Multitouch can be enabled at a later date?
Theres keeping costs down and theres blatent stupidity.
If you think about it, multitouch isn't all that. People mostly want it for zoom-pinching, requiring 2 fingers, which is too difficult to do with just 1 hand. I stopped caring about Multitouch after I saw a youtube of X10 mini way of zooming using 1 finger. Just like how you add widget to the android 'desktop', you press the screen for 1 sec with 1 finger, then drag up and down to zoom in and out. Double tap is also possible, but I like that new way better

this will be in xperia x10 also ??
i mean i can zoom with 1 finger and drag up & down ???
or will be only for mini x10 ??
Well the video was in X10 mini, right now X10 doesn't have that. But since X10 won't have multitouch, there's a good chance the X10 gets X10 mini way of zooming.
The video of X10 mini zooming is a fact, but hoping it to be available also on X10 via update is purely my personal expectation. So don't start rumors that X10 will definitely get that too lol.
EDIT:
Ok, found the thread regarding that X10 mini zoom, including the youtube link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661080
thanks shadowflare
really it is perfect and hope x10 will get this in its update
what about gaming though on apps? lack of multitouch any of concern for you guys on apps?

X10 appears to already have Multitouch

Try using the latest version of Google Maps, the pinch to zoom gesture appears to work ! It is not very reliable and only seems to work for a limited range but the action is identical to pinch to zoom on an iphone.

It's simply a double-tap. Notice how he always zooms in the same amount, and never zooms out or even pauses halfway through the zoom. I can mimic exactly what he's doing, and it's not MT.
People need to come to grips with the fact the X10 lacks hardware MT capabilities. SE has stated this numerous times, and they have no reason to lie (especially when doing so cost them customers). Apple's MT patent claims wouldn't scare a company like Sony, not with their cash and patent portfolio, and not when other companies (Motorola, Samsung, Google) are implementing MT on their phones.
[UPDATE]: In response to the speculation as to whether or not the X10 will ever receive multi-touch, Eric de Kort of Sony Ericsson gave this succinct statement:
“Multi-touch will not be a feature in future updates for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 because the device does not support multi-touch due to her software and hardware configuration. The operation and user experience of the phone will be further improved and Sony Ericsson will come with her own intuitive way of, for example, zooming in and out.”
I guess that settles that once and for all.

Xperia X10i or HTC Desire

Hello
First sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I'm new to smartphones and Android and have a bit of a dilema!
I have an Xperia X10i and am supposed to be exchanging it for a HTC Desire next week, for reasons I will go into, but my big question first is am I making the right choice.
I got out my X10 yesterday after another delay with getting the HTC and after finding some UI changes and other apps on these awesome forums, I am starting to like the X10 more.
Sure the battery lasts about 9 hours but I'm looking into fixes, other things I didn't enjoy, like the UI I have changed with the awesome ADW Launcher.
Now the main reason I wanted to change the phone was, and this is going to sound really childish and stupid, but was for multitouch, well that and the newer version of android, which I think the X10 will get eventually, however for some reason I feel I need multitouch?
When getting a smartphone I looked forward to playing all my old Snes Roms etc on the way to work on the train, which is nigh on impossible to do properly without multitouch.
I installed the Wiimotion? app to use a Wii mote on my X10 which is awesome but won't help when I'm on the train.
Now I know that's a bit of a frivilous reason but I dunno, seeing all my work colleague pinch and zoom and playing Monkey Island and Conta got me jealous.
I haven't used a Desire but had a quick go of a mates Legend and wasn't blown away or anything. I actually think I prefer the look/style of my X10, but I still like the Desire, I know the camera's better on the X10 but that's pretty much it isn't it?
So there is my question really, should I change my X10 for a Desire, mainly for the updated Android and Multitouch!
I've posted this in X10 and Desire forums, again sorry if thats a no-no.
If you feel that you need multitouch than you should get a device that supports it. The X10 doesn't support multitouch either in software or in hardware.
Android will be updated on the X10 soon, either by SE themselves or the community so that is not a huge issue.
Just a heads up the Desire has the same multitouch problem as the nexus one look it up on youtube if you dont know what i am talking about. hope that helps
Just seen that vid thanks for the heads up
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
How about the Samsung Galaxy S? I would pick that over the Desire.
Wow, the multitouch on the N1 is horrendous. :O
I assumed it'd be atleast good considering that it's a google flagship phone.

Just checked, and I don't think it's available on TMobile, shame it looks a good phone. Thanks anyway
I have an X10 but i think the Desire edges it (for me anyways).
The reason being it's HTC and they have stronger support both from HTC themselves and from the Devs on here on XDA. They have also established themselves as the main player for android devices, and have more experience.
I accepted the intial shortcomings of the X10, with knowledge that the updates would be coming in a timely fashion. This includes both android and performance.
They have not and i'm not just talking about OS.
Basic Telephony - Call Volume
Input- entries not recognised by the digitizer, both keyboard and mediascape.
Functionality -Playlist creation
Sense is in it's 2nd revison and is very stable and I expect to see 2.2 and future versions on that device one way or another. I can't say that with same amount of confidence for the X10.
SE have made a very decent effort with the X10, but their support for the device will be it's downfall.

Dear Rakber,
If I were you, I would definately go for the desire. My teacher has got a desire and Ive got the X10i but I was blown away when I saw how good the desire is.
Take your chance before its too late!!

X10 support the multitouch Hardware.... but it is limited by the OS 1.6...
With the update in 2.1, multitouch will be a reality on X10 !!!
OS 1.6 limite the number of colors dispayed (65K on 1.6, X10 can display 16M)
Video record in 720p will be possible on 2.1 too.
With same OS version (2.1) X10 has more advantage than Desire.. beautifull screen, camera (APN) and Video are Likely an Real APN SONY 8.1Mo...perfect colors, defeniton... The camera of Desire is Medium, Poor..
THe X10 is better on 3D, sound of MP3 is perfect !! great bass !
Advantage of Desire, the update is more frequent, and quickly...
As for me, My cousin have the desire, and i a have the X10, i prefert my X10 !!
X10 is recently rooted, then I think some devs will adapte the HTc Software to the X10

It's this kind of misinformation that led me to believe the X10 would be the better phone in the long run. To fair to Thol even SE support anaylsts were telling me it was a software limitation just days before release.
According to SE it will never support multitouch it's a limitation in both Hardware and software!
As for the 65k colour limitation SE have not been entirely clear on this point especially as the smaller devices ie mini and mini pro have a spec sheet that states the screen is capable of 16 million colours.
Both the mini and mini pro are on 1.6 too. Now if that's true why does Mini on 1.6 support 16m and the x10 on 1.6 support 65k??
Cheers for the replies guys.
Yea I've read conflicting reports on the multitouch being hardware or software limited, and the same with the screen colours, it's bloody annoying!
Another question which Thol made me realise is what's the mp3 player like on the Desire as that's probably the other main thing I use my phone as, it's seems pretty good on the X10, but as long as it sounds good and dosen't pop and crackle?

The thing is, Sony Ericsson themselves have stated and confirmed the hardware does not support multitouch. Please don't listen to these stupid rumors: they come from people who bought the X10 and regret not having multitouch and they want to believe by some miracle the X10 will get multitouch through a software update.
As for the 65k colors: I believe I read this is a hardware limitation as well, but I can't find any sources so maybe someone else can confirm or deny this with a valid source?

From everything I've read the X10 will not support multitouch.
But it will support an equivalent function using one finger that may be superior to multitouch as you can do all the same functions but can do them with one hand. I think we will be getting it with the next major update.
There was an app demonstrating this function but I deleted it and now cannot find it.
And fwiw, I am more and more falling in love with the elegance of the X10 in spite of some bugs and limitations.

Dispay type : TFT Capacitive = Multitouch (normaly)
Sorry, X10 is not Multitouch:
"Despite the capacitive technology, the X10 display won't be getting multi-touch support even with the latest OS."
>I realy think it can be multitouch, Sony have afraid about Apple's lawers... Htc Not !
Hosnestly, i had a iPhone 3G, i'd never use the Multitouch function... perhaps only on a game : air Hokey with my son (multi players)
But it is really 16M color :
"Sony Ericsson have also promised that Android 2.1 will at some point be available for the XPERIA X10 enabling the full use of the 16M color-ready display."
For a serious test :
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_x10-review-463.php
For MP3 player, the X10 Player is more pretty, but too limited fuctions (no remote supported), I use MixZing (free, but with ads), it support this function (remote).
SE promise a update of the player (media scape) some time after the OS update...
Htc's devices are better for their software...But as i said, some devs will adapts these software on X10 too...

X10a - White Paper - RE: 2.1 Upgrade

Hi All!
Hopefully, this will end all discussion on Multitouch / 16.1 M colours, etc.
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/716/952/1284710360/DW-102192-X10_WP_6.pdf
As to say:
no MT, just single-touch, with browser getting the double-touch/double-zoom feature ... variation of single-touch
no 16.1 M colours ... The screen is still awesome ... even Angry Birds looks better on Android compared to iPhone.
no Adobe Flash support.
- still, I am keeping positive, perhaps these "features" can come aboard the 2.2 update, (if and when and will)

Everyone is believing, hoping and wishing and brain washed by SE that they are not really looking at the real facts.
X10 is high end device ..... dont be a fool!
Facts are:
No MT
No 16m colours
No flash (because of android 1.6, think again)
No camera flash
No 2.1 (1.6 and useless mini updates where they can put there resources into good use and give you 2.1 in the 1st place)
386MB ram (should have been 512)
No 2.2 in future (stop fooling yourself)
Battery life is crap
Improved software like timescape and mediascape .... yet right who care, most would gladly have 2.1 with MT rather than all these SE improvement on Android 1.6
No install apps to Sd
etc
etc
etc
These are some of the features that come standard on nowaday devices, so is this look like a high end device. More like high con device.
Time to wake up people and accepted you've been con by SE.
yes i fully agree with you SE only fooled people by picking up there sales, so people from now onwards be careful before buying the SE and only trust what you see don't get fooled by future upgrades at least by sony
Not everybody who buys a phone really gives a ****s ass if this phone has 2.1 or 2.2. Some people just really like the phone. If you guys seriously have so much to complain about.. might as well end your misery and sell it. End of story. Why ***** when there's always an option. Its called .. . MOVE ON?
