ordered my upgrade :D but :( wont be here till friday or even the friday after - Galaxy S I9000 General

as above u can see im happy about getting my upgrade but upset that there is apparently no more sgs in the uk :S how can this be? i know its a good phone but i never expected there to be a waiting list (i was told this by t-mob) and that even other networks providers have asked them if they could buy any off them if this is true IPHONE WHAT!? lol i know its not a popular as i phone 4 but it seem samsung has got a winner here i really want to know what the sell figures are for the sgs cause it would be interesting to see as i think this could be the year for them as the the samsung pmp is coming out aswell as the samsung tab could they be the apple biggest rivals this year!? i hope soo
i was also wondering when i first get the phone what should i do!? and im not too confident in rooting :/ and dont want to do it yet and also should i charge the phone for 12hours? cause i read some here that i should use its straight from the box until it totally flat not once but twice straight after each other. what do u lot think is best?

Just a: "Huh, that's funny"

Just a thought that came to me...
I was perusing some old posts about when the g1 came out. It seems funny to me that since the launch of the g1 and android, the people that loves the iphone (fanboys -- trying not to be flaming here - lol), How many comments about how this phone is going to die out soon and what not. I think back when the iphone came out and that was only just over 2 years ago, and the g1 is now only 3 months shy of its birthday, how many people bashed this phone.
I love this phone and most people at work would love to have one, but they aren't on t-mobile. They like what the capabilities of this phone will become and then some. I think that they were wrong to get rid of the keyboard, I like being able to type and the screen and not half hidden by a vk.
I think that the prices on the market are such that it will also bring people this this system (not just the phones). With what is coming out from the various manufactures that are makikng android phones, i think about the fact that there is only 2 phones available from the iphone....
I wonder how dead is this phone? If this OS came in a flip phone (because that is what my wife wants), then I will be more than happy to give her one. All in all, I will stick with android, not because i am a "fanboy", but because I believe in the magic of opensource and helping one another is what being human is about.
So, one last comment before I put my drunk ass to bed, dollars to doughnuts, this'll be around for awhile. I like both phones, they are basically the same under all the glitter. But, hey, everyone has a choice.
have a great 4th of july everyone, and if you are not from the USA, then I hope you have a great 4th of july also.

The phone isn't dead, it's because T-Mobile doesn't really give a crap about their phones enough to actually market them. They also don't care about you, the consumer. Honestly, all they care about is their bottom line.
Look at any call center. Many call centers constantly run competitions for CSR's to win some widget. Sell x amount of this brand of phone and win a prize.
Know what that means? When a consumer calls in wanting a Blackberry (or whatever), the CSR is going to do whatever they can to convince you to buy phone brand x because they want to win the widget, not because they give a damn about what phone would best suite you.
Tmobile actively encourages this kind of crap and they should be ashamed.
Very true. Back in Jan someone I know went to tmo asking about the g1. The rep told him it sucks buy a blackberry, (the flip one.. pearl maybe? I dunno). That was the craziest thing I have ever heard. Bb > android? Is this guy high?.. lol needless to say he has since returned and purchased the g1 after talking to me. I just thought this to be insane.

Ctia = boring

Wow, not really much going on for the 1st day imo. Nothing much on anything coming soon, like in the next few weeks.
I'm sitting on my atrix which is in its box on the fridge waiting to hear of something coming soon on att. Guess I will just return it and get my $ back.
I've been waiting for news on the sgs2 our the samsung infuse. Maybe tomorrow our wed hopefully.
What are your thoughts.

I'm also really interested in hearing about the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Infuse. Hilariously enough, I went to an AT&T store to get a new SIM for my iPhone 4 so I could give it to my mom, and I asked an employee working there who had a little Samsung badge on his belt if he knew anything about the Infuse's release date. "Samsung Infuse? Never heard of it."
I was at CTIA today. HTC guy said they were going to announce a dual core phone today...Never heard about it. Suppose it's the Pyramid. The booth guy really didn't know very much.
Did go by the Motorola booth and jokingly complain about the Skype, Fake 4G, and other things. The guys just all grinned and blamed it on AT&T.
Galaxy S II no one at the booth would say anything about when it was coming to US.
Playstation phone was nice. Got to see an Arc (from an ericsson guys pocket) it was nice but kind of meh.
All in all I agree I have sore feet and not much else to show for my efforts.
If I had been feeling particularly malicious I would have connected my phone straight to a HDMI cord sans dock and showed the Moto guys what's been done to the phone, but I didn't.
I had the best time at the Nokia booth though. People were really friendly, and down to earth. Had a grea time chatting with a booth guy that was really knowledgeable and we both decided we hope the best comes out of the WP7 deal. I tried to get him to open up about a new "Meego" type phone but he just smiled.
Tomorrow is my last day to return the Atrix and I guess I'm keeping it.
See I had to pay full 535 for it and it just rankles me that I at times feel due to the various issues I'm not getting nor will get the full moneys worth.
Buyers remorse from too much time reading forums I guess.

Me too, same dilemma. I want a SGS II SO bad, but no idea when its being released is so off-putting. i can't wait around in limbo for 2, 3, 4 months. I paid full price for my Atrix as well and am contemplating returning it or not. I'll only get $495 of the $530 i paid though back ($35 re-stocking fee). Hoping CTIA would bring me a reason to take it back, but unfortunately nothing yet.
Well I rationalize that since. I love the phone even with all its flaws I'll enjoy it as is.
Work pays for my base phone bill & data plan so it's like getting the phone for free.

May 5th Samsung/AT&T Press Conference, Not For SGS2

If you didn't already hear, the press conference between AT&T and Samsung was not for the Galaxy S II. It was of course for the Infuse 4G. This will be the first of AT&T phones to be capable of up to 21Mbps, assuming you are in an area where the cell towers have fiber backhaul in place.
That being said, there is another press conference from Samsung(and Samsung alone, no carriers mentioned with it) that will take place May 24th. This is what people are presuming to be the Galaxy S II, and takes place exactly 11 months after the press conference for the original Galaxy S line.
Now, my question to all of you is, if you are in serious need of a phone, what do you think is the best choice to do in this situation? I have all lines available for an upgrade, starting tomorrow, as this will mark 11 months after, which makes me within 30 days of my 1 year mark of this contract, and the guy at the AT&T store said I can do the upgrade if I am within 30 days(I said that confusingly, but it made sense in my head, so I hope you all understood).
I am sitting here with a Motorola Backflip, the slowest and worst phone you could ever want. Okay not true, but I think I'd rather have a simpler phone with its own random OS that runs smoothly on it since it would be designed for it. So I want to get a new phone ASAP, but I really would like the Galaxy S II. Should I just go ahead and get the Infuse 4G since I am desperate? Or do you think it would be worth waiting for Galaxy S II? I have multiple upgrades, so I may just get the Infuse for now and still get Galaxy S II when it comes, but at that point I would have to pay for it. If I just wait for Galaxy S II, I won't have to pay, but I'd be without a good phone for a while, and it's already been long enough. I think that I may end up being fine with the Infuse, but the GSII seems so nice, I'm gonna want it anyway.
I'm kinda trying to save up my money, I get a couple hundred every two weeks, but I end up spending a lot, and a phone would cost me a whole paycheck.
Anyways what do you guys think on this whole situation, whether it's about the May 24th press conference, or what phone I should get, or whatever.
The infuse will be an afterthought. It runs 2.2... it'll have little dev support and tweaking/upgradability will be much less likely. Old hardware as well except for the screen and 4.5" is just too big imo.
Wait for the SGS2
if you look at the at&t facebook page..the 24th showcase may be for tablets..not sure if its for sg2. i have it marked down tho..but i would try out the infuse. you said you have multiple upgrades..so why not.

Yeah it's just if I wanna have to spend money or not cause if I just choose one then I personally don't have to pay anything.
See which upgrade on AT&T can be sold on ebay for max $ and use that $ to buy the SGS2.
Well if I buy one, then switch to another later, I will have to give the other one up for another person in my family.

That's exactly what I did. I bought an Atrix for $99 from Best Buy and sold it on eBay for $470. I used the profit to help me pay for my new S2!
Oh, and as a bonus since I had the unlimited data plan with my old 3GS the Best Buy rep called AT&T and asked them to keep me grandfathered on that plan. I thought that was pretty cool.

interesting
but I think they were just given a UK model to play with - in the limited shots I saw no ATT icons anywhere, no logo on the front and no physical customization to the design - all things AT&T LOVES to do and DOES in most cases
i'm starting to think you get off on being a negative nellie

As to May 24 samsung announcement,I think that gs2,will be the U.S debut, and tmo gets our phone,if look through some forums the gs2 was be coming to tmo 1st anyway,ATT GOT INFUSE,WE GET THE BIG BANG.

Actually the whole GS2 on T-mobile USA rumor started when t-mo accidentally responded to a tweet about the GS2 and they confused it for the GS 4G... they corrected themselves but the rumors had already spread.. I would love this device on T-mobile or Sprint.. but Sprint is just getting around to releasing the Nexus S 4G... not a bad phone but when it wasn't cutting edge when the original was announced last winter..

dying for a new phone!

i really want to get a samsung galaxy s2 or possibly the galaxy nexus if its available on sprint. my contract is up until april though, should i find a way to get a new phone or just wait it out? waiting is hard for me though as i see me friends galaxy s2 screen and its amazing!! the evo screen is just not doing it for me after seeing that =/
If that's the case you could jump on the SGSII and bet set for a while ... but it may also be worth it to sit tight for a minute. Either way you'd be updating. I was holding out hope for the new Nexus, and it still might come - eventually - but I will have gone through the restless stage since then. Unfortunate it won't be here any time soon.
So go with what you think is the best decision. I know my Evo has gotten a bit too long in the tooth. Sounds like Sprint's holiday lineup isn't as impressive as some thought it might be.

Think of it this way: When you are officially up for upgrade in April, will you be fine with getting whatever is going to be available at the time or are you going to want to hold out for whichever device is going to be coming out just a month/couple of months/a few months down the road?
You seem to be very keen on getting a new phone right now. If you were to get the advice to wait until April, would you really take that advice to heart?
Obviously if you can hold off until you're upgrade-eligible you'll be able to get a better price on your phone. If price isn't a concern, then go nuts.
Personally, I'm holding off until the LTE phones start showing up. I don't buy phones outside of the subsidized upgrade period, so whatever I get is something I'll have to live with for a pretty long while. As a result, I'm not going to buy a phone with WiMax.
thanks for the replies. i really do want a new phone but know i should wait. its more of a luxury at this point to buy a new phone when im not too far away from getting the upgrade. i think ill wait and even if a new phone isnt out that i really want, i could always get the sgs2 in april for the discounted price. its tough but i think im going to have to wait it out. was kind of wondering if others were itching for a new phone as well.

I can't believe I bought another Streak !!

I can't believe it .. I bought another Streak .. So I will have my iPhone 4S, my Galaxy Tab 7" (which is also a phone) and I the Streak T-Mobile 5" AWS model which is on the way (Tuesday delivery because the post office is closed Monday.)
#1 Streak was the one from the Dell Texas Give-Away which I sold that and then bought ....
#2 Streak from Dell. They were promising me an unlock code for weeks. Never got it so I traded my Dell Purchase Streak with my friend for
#3 (another) Dell Streak Give-Away. As you all know the give-away model doesn't have T-Mobile 3G but I hate AT&T more than I do Edge. Mean while I kept worrying about the warranty on the give-away models. Someone told me about the AWS Model .. that it has 3G TMobile ... So I sold my give-away streak and bought the
#4 Dell Streak AWS T-Mobile 3G ... YAY ... That gave me my unlimited T-Mobile data for $20 grandfathered in from way back when and I was geting a 3G connection.... by this time the Samsung Note was getting ready to ship, so I sold my long awaited for T-Mobile 3G Streak and bought the Note which I hated immediately ... It felt like a cheap toy in my hand .. Mostly hated the rubber back. Didn't have it long enough to even play with the stylus .. PLUS I was not getting 3G again. Today I bought
#5 Dell Streak AWS T-Mobile 3G .. I keep thinking that there was something about it that I really don't like but given a long enough break between Streaks I can't remember what that is ..
Any way .. just felt like sharing this little bit of my SICK gadget addiction.
Diane
You should have your addiction treated, first step is to give me your note as that's part of the problem

Forgot to mention that I sold that about 2 days after buying it.
Yeah, my addiction does need to be looked at but before I lay out any money for a shrink, I will wait and see if the world really ends in december, then I will decide what to do depending on what I was planning to give myself for christmas.
I have 2 touchscreen laptops .. at least one needs to go. PLUS I have the Samsung Slate / tablet .. the one from the Windows 8 Developer Convention. I really like that. The new Samsung Slates have different hardware and do not have the sim card connection. I gotta keep this for a while. I have the HTC Shift (computer not phone - it has the phone enabled and that needs to go.) I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" with the phone enabled. That's a keeper I guess .. so is my iPad2 and my iPhone .. Good grief .. I am sick aren't I !!! I better go to the doctor before something else comes along.
I feel like this bumper sticker I saw once on an RV .. It said something about "Spending my childrens inheritance."
I knew you'd be back...
Now are you finally gonna get real crazy and put a custom rom on it, or what?
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I am afraid to do that now because I just read that Google is locking people out of the market that have custom roms. True? I don't have a custom rom on my Samsung 7" Galaxy Tab but it is rooted and as far as I can tell, no problems. I was at first thinking that Google doesn't want to allow access to rooted phones because there is a program for rooted phones that hides ads in free software. So I guess my answer is .. NOW I HAVE A LEGIT REASON to be too scared to change the rom !!

I was POSITIVE that I wouldn't be back. There were two things that annoyed me about the Streak that I was never able to fix with any of them ..
1. That vibration .. Right now I can't remember when I would feel it - seems like turning it or moving it in some fashion would make it vibrate. I hate that .. could not figure out how to turn it off for ever ...
2. The phone. I don't want the dial pad to disappear when I am on a call .. I want the HANG UP button to be there at all times. never could figure out how to make that happen either.
I wonder how long I will keep this one. At least I never got rid of my leather case from china .. It's a slip case that fits the streak even when I have the extended battery on. OH YEAH ... Another thing I never found a fix for ...
3. Mugen extended battery ... Never could get the streak to read the battery life correctly .... version 1.3 could read the battery life perfectly but every upgraded after that could NOT...

I know that _n0p_ has released a specific kernel patch for mugen battery in its DSC 0.XX thread. But you'll have to flash the DSC cutsom ROM I guess.
