Live TV and no licence!?? - Touch HD General

I can watch live Tv on my phone but im a bit confused because when u buy any tv equipment here in the uk ....set top boxes/freeview, tv,s ect they do a check to see if you have a tv licence! Im obviostly missing somethig here so if someone could enlighten me that be nice, ( im basicaly asking why they didnt do a check when i downloaded it to my phone....BTW im not bothered im just curious)
Paul.

The main reason is that you don't need a seperate TV licence for a phone, as it is covered by your main TV licence (comes under the excemption "Any device powered solely by its own internal batteries")
Plus the law requires shops to take address details and pass them onto TV licencing, but does not do the same for software downloads.

handsomedog......thanks for the reply! but......."as it is covered by your main TV licence"......how do they know?
Paul. (sorry to go on! as i said before im not bothered just curious)

They don't know, they just expect you would have a licence at your main address. Forget detector vans, the main way they enforce this is to simply knock on the door of every address without a licence.
As the number of people using a mobile as their only souce of live TV is close to zero, it's probably not worth their time checking, likewise they don't check for a licence when you stream live TV over the web on BBC iplayer.
The cost of checking you are properly licenced for iplayer/mobile apps would hugely outweigh the revenue stream they would gain from it.

Oh ok! thanks for the reply mate.
Paul.

Hi Mr London - can I ask what app you are using to watch live tv? Thanks

Davsor im using SKYFIRE.

Sky By Mobile..

Has anyone got this working on a WM5 device yet?
The url's that you go to come back with
"service is not available for your mobile device".. but there are lots of JAR's and JAD's floating around for different phone types..
EDITED:
As I'm not a Vodafone 3G customer - i'm after the SKY TV Guides and the ability t mark something as "to record" and have it automatically recorded at home.....
Charlie Grillo
id be interested in this too
Can someone explain a bit mroe about this? Is it a service that sky are introducing for their customers, or an extra pay service? Cheers.
This is for current customer (for free):

Sky by Mobile - Is it possible on Windows Mobile?
By Gears. Published on 10 Jul 2006.
Some of you may be aware of a new service launched by Sky TV recently. If you're lucky enough to have one of their whizzy PVR's then you'll already be used to the live pause and recording to hard disk. However, recently they announced their Sky by Mobile service which allows you to get the latest news and videos from Sky plus you can now remotely set programmes to record onto your Sky+ box. Good eh?
Only one problem though. You need one of these handsets to run the software, and Windows Mobile isn't on there. I'd really like to use this service - I'm always forgetting to set my Sky+ box or I'm away from the house and I can't physically touch the remote. Last night I found this interesting digitalspy.co.uk thread and downloaded this JAR file and plonked it onto my Orange SPV C600. I opened it up in file explorer and ran it in the Java MIDlet Manager. It does actually work, I can load it up and enter my sky.com credentials, however it stops after that - I presume because it can't access the net. I can't seem to get around this and I've tried everything like opening a GPRS connection manually and tweaking with the security settings.
Has anyone else tried this successfully ? I'm trying the JAR file for the Nokia 6230 in this example but Sky hide the links so I've not found any other JAR files to test.
http://mobile.sky.com/SBM/series40/sky_S40_LR_SF_6230/SkyMobile_S40_LR_SF_6230.jar
It installs in the midlet manager, and runs, but does not connect or go any further.
Surur
ive tried the link in a few different browsers, pie, mnimo and the java based opera but no look, just says not compatible with your device, i guess we will have to wait untill the sky.com web based service is available and use the text service in the mean time
got excited when the letter came through the post, its been in the pipeline for about a year or so now
edit: looked at the website http://www.wecomm.com/ who i think are the company that provide the software for the service and they do have other products that work on WM phones, so maybe soon it will be on our wizards!
anyone know whether we are going to get this?
On a similar subject, does anyone have the software program that you need to view your sky channels via broadband? I've just registered for it, but they email the URL to the original email address that was given to them by the account holder, but my Dad never gave them one so I'm struggling to get the software!
Cheers.
I think everyone has given up on this but ive managed to get a collection of installers for various phones, using the user agent tags in firefox.
not managed to get any of them to work though! but thought they may be useful to other people.
edit: ignore this post i cant seem to upload the files!
but if anyone is interrested give me a shout, ive got about 13 different installer files, mainly nokia, motorola, SE an i think one might be for blackberry.

Gnutella-client?

I'm wondering if there are any Gnutella-clients, or other software, for WM that allows music searching/downloading. Would be nice to be able to download tracks on the go.
Call-script
double-post... sorry
well.......
You can always use a remote connection to your PC to download tracks, then transfer to your phone via Orb or something.
The problem with Gnutella for WM-
1. Legality- Service providers don't want their data being used to dl music illegally and afraid of being sued
2. Bandwidth- Same as above except without the "and afraid of being sued"
This might even get categorized as a warez post, but probably not.
But i digress. I must point out that the bandwidth that you would need would only be available via wi-fi, effectively killing the idea of "on-the-go"
ANd besides, the artists do good work. Let them get paid. Read my sig, just replace "using warez" with "Downloading music illegally"
pocket G2pro
i will give you a clue but i cant give you direct link in xda.software calls pocket g2pro that will allow to download music from gunutella network.cheers
yeh but g2pro has been offline for at least a few months if not a year they shut off their servers it appears so thats not an option.
i dont think p2p software is warez. the program itself is simply a program if someone codes it and offers it for free then its no worse than any other developed program in here. Im sure modding the HTC programs and puling them from the ROMs brings up all sorts of IP violations (for all you law buffs you know what im saying) technically. Im simpler terms i doubt modding and pulling HTC copyrighted software is exactly "legal" per say.
what you do with it is your own morality IMO. the p2p program in itself isnt warez though if its developed and offered for free
As far as the piracy-question is concerned; there are legal files on the Gnutella network aswell and it is off course only these I'm interested in. Like songs from some local emo-goth band and such. Ya. Bandwidth isn't a problem since I live in Sweden and have an unlimited HSDPA data-plan. Even if used strictly via WiFi it would still come in handy in my opinion. But it seems I'm out of luck though, doesn't it? Are there any good BitTorrent clients perhaps?
yes there is very nice bittorent client which calls adiasta bittorrent...also g2pro network is down but you can always add manuel gunetalla network.it was under the settings but i cant remember know.could you plase check ipmart-forum.you can get your answer guys.just check the under the ppc section forum.good luck..
ok, not warez. there are just some very radical people here that would categorize it as such. But yeah......
pocket g2pro alive and well

Rhapsody music streaming... I'm willing to BEG! :)

I've posted a couple requests like this in the past year, but no one bit. It's understandable as maybe not many people here use the Rhapsody service (it is currently only available in the US ).
I would be willing to beg on my knees (or pay money too ) to a developer who could throw together a simple app to stream Rhapsody's music to our phones.
I've tried streaming from Rhapsody.com with every mobile browser in existence, and none will do it. So I think a proper app is the only way to go.
I've attached what Real Networks refers to as "Rhapsody's SDK." It's not so much an SDK as much as it is documentation on how their streams work in html. I'm sure it would be helpful in some way.
I know with Rhapsody being US only, it really limits the amount of developers who could put something together, but my fingers are tightly crossed
so have I!
Nobody touches my music...
.....
well im sure it is possible. if you maybe make a server at home, then stream through ther??? somehow?

Perhaps. But there are mp3 players that connect directly to Rhapsody's servers via WiFi) without a pc or having to use your home pc, so why wouldn't it be able to be accomplished on a WM phone?
The Nokia N800 has a Rhapsody client. Some-one should really look at that code and see if it could be ported.

Nice find, Surur!
bumpity bump
and bump again, SWEEET....
Bump 1 more time. I would love 2 have this
I just recently posted a thread about this as well. I am glad to bump this one up, as old as it is.
Still to this day, nothing, Meanwhile Apple iPhone users may have their Rhapsody streaming application, very soon! Android, right behind them. Blah! What happened to us Windows users? Was Rhapsody not born on the PC? You know, "PLAYS FOR SURE".
Any developers or coders that can look into this, gracias!!! Thank you very much.
Here are some possibly helpful links:
Old Rhapsody remote app. http://www.openrhap.net/blog/
Could be reworked to access Rhapsody catalog through PC as server and then stream the music.
Didiom: http://www.didiom.com/
Capable of streaming Rhapsody DRM protected, non purchased, subcription tracks from PC to PPC.
I have attached the old files from the OpenRhap.net SDK from the Rhapsody Remote project. As well as the Rhapsody Remote and Rhapsody Relay files. For whatever use they may be.

[Q] CCTV over TCP/UDP

hi all,
can some one please help to make app i can watch cctv over TCP/UCP port ?
i found some app they all does it over http and unable to access MY dvr !!
phone : htc desire 2.3 MIUI ROM
DVR : viewmax digital dvr
P.S. i have windows .exe and linux .tar packages
thanks
CURY
its not that simple contact the manufacturer of the dvr and ask them if they have an android app for it, however the dvr you have is one of the cheap generic chinese ones with a viewmax badge slapped on then you havnt got much hope, im an ex security engineer with 6 years under my belt, i only ever did cctv and in them years have fitted lots of different dvrs and none of the ones ive fitted have ever had android apps, a few have had apple apps and windows mobile apps but never android.......
each dvr uses its own type of encyption for the data transfer and protocol for the video so i think it would be not worth it for a developer unless you were willing to pay them to do it. it would be to much work for someone to do for free on here.
http://www.xenexsecurity.co.uk/product/id/672691
is this the type of item you have?
thanks a lot danny to look in to it and reply back in here.
its pc based dvr
http://www.xenexsecurity.co.uk/Products/cat/DVR+System+-+PC+Based,
and you are right about some of them have iPhone and windows based app.
even in my dvr its have iPhone support settings but i dint manage get it work on iPhone too
so you know some one can help me make app , i m happy to pay, how much does it cost ?
thank you very much for help
Have you tested with this app?
Try contacting developer.

yeah these dvrs unfortunately are of such low quality half the time the mobile apps dont work, erm im not sure who could make one for you or even how much it would cost for there time, also you need to be aware that if you are attempting to stream video over 3g, its gonna be very difficult as a lot of carriers block most ports that these dvrs use and also itll eat you data VERY quickly, CCTV is very bandwidth intense and some mobile networks cannot provide enough hence why the apps never work or connect. your best contacting the manufacturer of the dvr to see if there is any android app or if they are in the process of making one. I wouldnt get your hopes up though sorry.

Clear.fi and Acer Support

Last week I send Acer Support a question about using Clear.fi. It would see my computer, but it would quickly display "There is no content available." message. I got a quick response back that was confusing to understand. I'll go into that more later.
So I sent another message saying I couldn't understand their message, to which again I got a prompt reply saying they had escalated the case to Level 2 support with the suggestion I call their voice technical support (@ 1-800571-2237 : write this number down for future US support 24/7!!!)
I called and explained the problem and was told they needed to research it and would call me back.
By now I think I have figured the original message out. They were saying I needed to plug in a USB thumb drive into an Acer PC and in the Clear.fi client on a PC (see ACER.COM and find a rotating display that shows Clear.fi, click on it and you see sample screens from a PC and you also will find that Clear.fi has only recently started to be installed on new (2011) Acer PCs) On the left of the Clear.fi screen on the PC click on "Shared Library", then click on "Add Computer", click "next step" to create the file "clear.fi_client_setup_.exe". Now install this on your non_Acer PC.
Great! What if you don't own a recently built Acer PC?
Now a short time later I got a call from Acer Support informing me that at the present time the Clear.fi client only works for Acer Tablet to Acer PC. They said they would look into my suggestion that they make it available to all users as a download in the same place you find your USB Acer Sync Driver.
I soon found our this Support Group was located in Temple, TX, just south of Waco, TX. I live just north of Waco, TX. Yes, we did talk about the weather!
I had a nice long talk with Josuha. I told him I was anxiously awaiting the 3.1 update. He didn't know exactly when it would be released, but indicated that Acer had sold a lot of tablets to businesses and saw a need to add apps that would make it more business freindly (e.g., support of Exchange). So perhaps the 3.1 update will include some additional apps and this might explain the delay. Just guessing here!
I asked him if they have people scanning these forums to get a handle on current problems users are having and suggestions for improvements. He said they have a "team" of people doing this. It would be nice it they would their presence known!
He then got my email address and sent me a survey form. They asked what three things I don't like about the A500 and three things I liked. They also asked for suggestions for improvements. This survey is more than the one you get when you ask and get email answers from the off shore Tech Support. I wish there was a way to get a lot of users to respond like this as he genuinely wanted to get my opinion.
Bottom line...didn't get my Clear.fi problem solved now, but felt encouraged that there were people at Acer listening to us.
Now if anyone out here can get a copy of the Clear.fi client and share it with us that would be nice. I know you can do most of the Photo, Movies, and Pictures transfers to the Tablet by other means, but Clear.fi is suppose to let you stream movies from your PC.
Hope this info helps some of you.
i am using clear.fi with western digital live tv hub (1tb) dlna and it works fine..my windows 7 PC shows instantly but WD live hub takes sometime to show up but once its there everything works flawless
if clear.fi isnt working for you then you can try upnplay or skifta (skifta is dlna certified..on honeycomb it only works in portrait mode for browsing files but once you play a movie, it will change to landscape) along with a player like rockplayer, vplayer, moboplayer etc
you need to authorize the clear.fi device if your streaming server is on windows 7..a guide is available here
http://androidforums.com/captivate-...ide-setting-up-dlna-allshare-windows-7-a.html
Thanks. I was able to get to work.
