[Q] Help! Wildfire crashed, tried hard reset and it won't restore! - Wildfire General

Hi all,
I had a terrible catastrophic failure today with my 1-month old HTC Wildfire. I bought my device new, unlocked, in Singapore.
Here's what happened:
Today I received an ordinary SMS (like I have hundreds of times before in the past few weeks) and when I picked up the phone off of the desk, flipped on the screen, and slid my finger to unlock it, I saw a brief error message in a dialog on top of the Messages app. It was something like "com.something .... ", I didn't get a good look at the error but it didn't really mean anything to me at the time. The SMS that I received was then lost (I knew who it was from, but the message was not showing up). A few minutes later, I heard another SMS notification. No error message this time, but again the message did not show up in my Messages app.
So, I pressed the power button to power cycle the phone. After I shut it down, I turned it back on, saw the white screen with HTC logo, then black. It was dead. No amount of pressing buttons did anything.
After a few minutes, I removed the battery and it turned on again. Again, white splash screen and then darkness. Repeated this several times and same result.
Finally, I googled how to do a hard reset. I followed the instructions, held the volume down button while pressing power, cleared the memory, after it restarted it went right back to the white bootloader screen, flashed some error messages, and now I'm stuck in the bootloader. When I select the RECOVERY option, I get a quick screen with something like:
SD Checking ...
Loading [SOMEFILE.zip] ...
No Image!
Loading [SOMEFILE.zip] ...
No Image!
....
....
No Image or Wrong Image!
Can anybody help??! I don't know what to do now. I've searched for this "No Image or Wrong Image" message on these forums, but all the results are about rooting and loading different ROMs. I've never rooted or anything out of the ordinary, I just want the stock OS back and operational.
Btw ... I'm an Android noob, but an experienced Linux/Mac user and 10-year software developer.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nate

Recovery mode is something else.
To do a hardreset try the following:
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
Note: If you are not sure whether your phone's power is turned off, remove and then reinsert the battery.
2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
4. Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.

Call HTC support. I had a problem with my previous HTC phone, and they took me through diagnositcs over the phone, and when they diagnosed a hardware fault, sent a courier to pick it up from me the next day. This was when the phone was 18 months old. No receipt was necessary, they used the serial number/manufacture date.
Downside: the phone was gone a week, and came back still broken. It was sent away again, and came back fixed. So painfully without it for two weeks, but not a bad experience.
(edit: it was a similar problem: I upgraded to windows 6.1, and my phone wouldn't get past the initial hardware/boot screen)

I tried the hard reset procedure several times. Every time it's the same thing. After it clears the memory, it says "Reboot in 5 seconds..." and then when it reboots, it goes back to the bootloader screens.
I've contacted HTC support via email, and I'm bringing it in to their support center in Singapore tomorrow. I really hope it doesn't take a week ... I'll keep you updated.

Fixed.
I just got my Wildfire back today after a full week in the repair center. Apparently they replaced the main system board. No other explanation for the problem was given.
The repair process itself was hassle free, although I was frustrated by not having my phone for a week. Ended up having to buy a cheap basic phone for $55 to get by on SMS and voice.

Hermes wont boot - 4 color bars - help please

Hello everyone. After some researching, this seemed like the best site to answer my question, as I have not found an answer yet.
Yesterday morning, I was running my ATT 8525 (which I believe you refer to as "hermes") just fine. I was using the internet sharing feature, and went to reset the phone. I "believe" I pressed the power button while pressing the "ptt- push to talk" - button. The phone turned off, and when I turned the phone back on, rather than loading like it normally did, I got a new screen.
The screen has 4 color bars. A red bar at the top, then a green bar, then a blue bar, and last, a white bar of color on the bottom. Each bar takes up 1/4 of the screen and runs horizontally. At the top, the phone says, in white text:
HERM100
1PL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
At the bottom of the screen, in the white bar of color, in black text, it says
SERIAL
Now, when I press the power button to turn the phone off, nothing happens. I have to remove the battery to shut off the power. If I plug in a USB cable, the SERIAL text changes to USB. If I press the top two buttons, the one above window and the one above ok, while pressing the stick in to reset the phone, that screen works ok. I believe it is called a "hard reset" It asks if I want to erase all data and restore factory settings, and if so, press r. I press R on the keyboard, and the screen then says reset complete, press space. I press space and then I am back to the screen with 4 color bars. Nothing else I have tried works either. I have been stuck on this screen with 4 color bars since yesterday.
I took my cell phone in to ATT to be looked at and the sales people at the store say that I am 7 days past my warranty, and that they can't/won't repair the phone, but they would be happy to sell me a brand new one... for several hundred dollars.
So, the folks on the internet are my last hope =( If anyone reading this knows anything, even if it is a link to another site or something, that may help me resolve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, I at least thank you for your time reading my post.
- Wormling
Oh, as an additional thought, if it helps, I have not used any of these :baked: roms or any such thing. I bought my phone and used it as is. The one and only change I ever did to my phone was I followed ATT's steps on upgrading from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6, if I remember their names correctly. Hope this helps.
Bootloader. This is the name of the screen according to my research.
"Is your device able to boot Windows Mobile OS?
This one is easy: If can you see your today screen and use your phone as a PDA means you can boot OS. If you only see the splash screen, bootloader screen (tri-color) or windows mobile splash screen you can't boot OS."
Got this from the thread at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
So, I guess I am stuck at the bootloader screen.
Try a Hard reset - hold both soft keys and reset with stylus. Hold in until it asks to reset to factory (whatever). Press "r" on the slideout keyboard and then space. You should go back throught the setup PPC steps.
YOU WILL LOOSE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR HERMES...This is unescapable as you would any other way you tried to recover your Hermes too.
I suggest if you get it working to install Hard SPL V7 (makes recovery easier) and also pim backup so you can restore all your contacts/messages if something goes wrong again.
Cheers... & good luck.
I have tried hard resetting many times, and it does not work. It says that it succeeds and that factory settings have been restored, and then I am back to the bootloader screen. I have been to the wiki on bricked hermes phones and recovering from a brick. From that, I ascertain I have a type 2 bricked phone (goes directly to bootloader screen). I tried the MTTY tool, and it says that the NAND write was successful on both commands, but, I am still stuck at bootloader screen. I have since tried installing a few different roms, even in SSLL and HARDSPL modes, and nothing has worked.
What I have not tried is the JPIN fix, as I am not an engineer and don't have the tools or knowledge on how to do that. I also don't know how to do the microsoft operating system download fix (using an emulator?)
** UPDATE **
I think it might have been the mtty commands, but I took the battery out overnight, and when I put the battery back in to try the KITL attempt, the phone booted up and started to do the config. I was happy and thought that the phone was fixed, but when it was done with the configurating the phone, it reset back into boot loader screen -_-
You may need to check for bad blocks. This sometimes causes the problems you descibe as well as spontaneous Hard Resets and occasional soft resets.
Do a search for "how to fix bad blocks hermes" and you should get the info you need...
Hope this helps...

SoftBricked Tmobile UK G1 ?

Firstly i would like to say hello and happy new year.
Now to the point,
Yesterday I dropped my phone in the snow and it got a bit wet
I assumed it would be ok.
Few mins after this a received a call and couldn't hear the caller so i suspected that there was water in the receiver so i took my phone apart and tried to dry it out (even though i couldn't see any water in it)
The thing is when i put the phone back together it came to the bootloader and said no image file on a gray screen
I assumed that it was looking for a Dreaimg.nbh file
I put one on my sdcard and attempted to recover the device.
This looked to have worked initially but when i restarted the phone i was presented with a bootloader screen again with the red, green and blue bands saying "serial0".
I assumed that the device was looking for a ROM and couldn't find it so it took me back to the bootloader.
I went online and downloaded a rc8 update.zip
I restarted the phone again and went in to recovery mode (where you update with the update.zip) pressed "alt+l" then Alt+w and then alt+s to flash with my latest update. and tried to reflash the phone from recovery by pressing Alt+s this seemed to work initially but failed after the 2nd restart the process went like this.
Turn on phone press home key
I get a triangle ! and a phone so pressed Alt+l (to bring up the options)
pressed Alt+w to wipe the phone
pressed Alt+s to apply the update.zip
waited,
phone said it was done and press Home+back to reboot.
when i pressed Home+Back before the phone rebooted a message came up saying that it was flashing the radio (is this normal)
Phone rebooted to the G1 screen ]
Then on to a screen with the Microchip on it with a yellow and orange arrow stayed on there for a while and then rebooted again to the g1 screen then on to a screen with a status bar and a package with an arrow within a second the phone reboots and we go back to the bootloader.
This is all my phone will do
Please can some one help me with this I am an IT professional but this has me beat.
Thanks in advance Emove
I am stuck with the same issue. This happened a day after i split some soda on keyboard.
The G1 is auto powering in fastboot mode even though the camera button isnt stuck.
Sometimes I manage to turn on the phone it works fine until it has the problem again and it drains the battery.
Mine in other respects is fine I was hopeing that my problem was fixable but no one has replied with any real comments that may help so i suspect that that no one knows what the problem is.
I would suspect that you have a short somewhere on the board. Soft drinks leave a residue on the PCB when they dry so maybe thats your problem.
your options are to deal with it as it is.. have it cleaned professionaly (t-mobile/htc) or if your brave/stupid like me try and service it your self. cleaning with alcohol should do it no harm if its already on its way out.
i do have the service manual if you need it.

[FIXED] HELP! Bricked? HTC Blackstone

Hey guys I fell asleep with my phone on my stomach while charging, i woke up and moved and obviously unaware, my phone dropped onto the floor.
Now it won't start, all I get is the "Smart Mobility" screen, then my rom version and radio shows up on the bottom right, but then the screen stays lit with black.
EDIT: I've tried taking the battery out for about 5 minutes, resetted the phone, left it on for over an hour, but it still isnt starting.
still havent managed to get it starting:
The device is unable to boot because either you have turned off the device incorrectly or tried to install an application from untrusted source. Press Volume Up to reset your device or press any other button to cancel.
This operation will delete all your personal data and restore the device to it's factory default settings.
pressed volume up, nothing happened, so i took the battery out reinserted now its doing what i said it was in first post.

So you say that your device Brake when you drop it on the floor this mean its not a software problem and even if you flash a Stock ROM etc or do any procedure like HR or Task29 will not help you..
You need to go to Repair Service to chek it out what is broken inside the device.
Heyy tsalta, thanks for the help BUT MY PHONE IS BACK TO LIFE!! it eventually started up and everything is back to normal!
this is why i love htc.
thanks again.

[Q] Omnia 7 broken - will not boot

hi
my omina 7 of 1 month is broken.
A few weeks ago it wouldnt boot and gave the screen indicating
the phone needs to be plugged into the pc, it then booted ok.
Yesterday it gave the same message but by the time i got it home
the message was gone.
Now it will not boot, it simply cycles through the samsung logo, the three network logo , then back to the samsung logo.
Will be taking it back to the three shop tonight.
is there a way of hard resetting the phone using the buttons?
I have only found info on hard reset from within the OS, which obviously i now cannot get to.
has anyone else had this problem
The only similar problem i found was with a focus
was on the windowsphonesecrets website under the heading restoration error
to hard reset the focus press the power, volume & camera buttons all together. that might do it.
Have you tried taking the battery out of the phone? Heard from someone that that solved the problem...
yes tried taking the battery out
tried it without the sim
let the battery completely drain and tried again
the hard reset button combination didnt work either
just constantly cycling between the samsung and three network logos
three have now sent it off for repair ....
I have a very similar problem. My phone randomly rebooted itself but now it sticks on the Samsung Omnia 7 logo. I've tried removing the battery but nothing.
Is there a Safe Mode I can boot into?
Damn looks like I have the same problem. Was playing a game.Phone rebooted on its own, all I get is the Samsung Omnia 7 screen.
Tried a Hard Reset. I get the options pop up for about 2 seconds asking if I want to format. If I am quick enough to press the Home button nothing happens it just switches off.
Did you try to flash the ROM ?
Me?
No?
Download mode was the only mode that seemed to be recognised by my PC.If it wasn't in warranty I would maybe have tried that, but as it is in warranty I will let T-Mobile deal with it.
my repaired samsung was returned mid january
a few weeks later and the same thing has happened again...
phone froze, switched it off , now will not boot again
it is definitely the same hand set or at least the same outer casing
the bill said it had some parts replaced
I wonder what caused this issue?
I had similar problem and this is how I solved it:
Make sure your Device is switched off (remove and reinsert the battery)
1. Press and hold the Camera, Volume Down, and Power buttons simultaneously.
2. Release Power when the phone vibrates, but continue to hold down Camera and Volume Down.
3. Release Camera and Volume Down when the Format prompt is displayed on screen.
4. Press Windows key twice to confirm the hard reset.
Enjoy your phone now
add 1 to the list, mine is doing thin, formatting doesnt help, reflashing doesnt help.
unless i can find a fix, im without a phone for 15 days while tmob plays with it
any progress?
Since applying the update that Samsung release yesterday I'm having the same problem...
Format didn't work, installing 'older' firmwares (I8700BSEJK1, I8700XENJK1 and I8700DBTJK1) didn't solve any issue
Anybody with more ideas?
I've also had this issue... I think it was caused by forcing the nodo update. Now I've updated it normally using this guide
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...spx?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
I hope now the problem is solved.

Please help. My Milestone 2 is DEAD

Hi all,
I have had loads of problems with this phone, so I decided to do a factory reset.
It rebooted as normal until it got to the Motoblur setup page
It asks for the Motoblur details to be entered, but once you have entered them and pressed the 'next' button, it goes back to the previous screen instead of the next step and then gets stuck in a never ending loop.
I've tried skipping the sign in process but instead of skipping it, it just goes back to the first Motoblur account setup screen instead.
Out of desperation, I have tried to make several new Motoblur accounts but every single time, it gets to 80% completion, then stops.
I have even left running all night (plugged in) and it still freezes at 80%
I can't do another factory reset because it won't get past the Motoblur setup screen.
I've tried to do a hard reset by holding x and powering the phone on but this doesn't work. It just brings up the triangle and android robot but it does not go to the next step despite me leaving it for several minutes.
Only had it for 7 weeks and am awaiting a response from Expansys on what to do.
Any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated.
Apply a debrand image of your system and do a full wipe

Have you pressed the @ key when you get to this step with the robot and the triangle? That should bring up the reset menu, and then you use the volume and camera buttons to choose and select the option you require.
Cheers,
Steve.

I didn't know you had to press @
Thanks
I've done a hard reset, but I still have the exact same problem.
If I try to input my proper Motoblur details it instantly says connection failed (it doesn't seem to even try to connect as fails the instant you press 'next)
Creating a new account hangs at 80%
Any more ideas before I throw it against a wall?
I notice there was an option to boot from SD in the recovey mode.
Would this allow me to boot an official motorola rom?
If so, where would I get the rom from?
A walkthorugh on exactly how to do this would be appreciated if this method could fix my issues.
I'm really annoyed because I sold my HD2 for this phone and I'm regretting it.
Thanks

I think you need internet connection in order to validate your account or create a new one. Check your APN settings first, or do it on wifi.
Hi,
I've tried it whilst connected to my wifi router. I've even tried it via the data connection but nothing happens.
It seems that despite the data/wifi connections being there, it just ignores them.
I think this is the issue. It's not connecting and I don't know why
The phone displays the wifi/3G data symbols in the task bar but it doesn't seem to be using them during the Motoblur setup
Mine is dead too!!!
Hello everybody,
Greetings from sunny, flooded, blown away, Queensland Australia!
Long time lurker, first time poster...
I have a...
Vodafone-Australian-2.2-Milestone2
2 weeks old and its an expensive paper weight. It was rooted and thats about it, had a bunch of root required apps on there, installed the bootstrap, but hadnt installed Xrecovery yet.
I was playing around the other day. changing settings, installing and uninstalling a heap of apps, testing them. Some app suggested I restart or it restarted itself, cant recall, and that was the end. Boots until it gets past the M, and then its just bootloop city.
Won't register on comp in RSD or anything. Will boot to stock recovery and cleared cache and data several times, but that didnt fix anything. Won't even charge the battery. It will run an update but has to be signed. Problem is, we havent had any updates yet on these phones in Australia and there are no custom roms. What update.zip could I get to try to fix it, because I think thats about my only hope.
While recovery was wiping the data and cache it would stop frequently and each time I would touch the ok in the bottom corner of the screen and it would continue, and seemingly despite the 10 or more stops, completes fine. Surely thats not normal.
Out of ideas, I would just send it back with a story but the vodafone boot animation is replaced with disco flashing lights. and thats all it does, non-stop. Do you think they will notice someone has been tinkering?
Ideas? Thoughts?
Oh, and forgot to mention, when I first got it I had the same problem with the Motorola sign in wizard on startup, for quite a while, cant remember how I got around it though. Stop trying to sign in and just get out of that wizard, install ADW Launcher or similar and dont go near any Moto apps. You are only required to do a Gmail sign in, not Moto.
That's the problem though.
I'm stuck at the Motoblur sign in and it will not skip.
Whenever I select skip, it just goes back to the motoblur sign in page instead of going to the home screen.
Basically, in a nutshell, this is what's wrong:
I can't sign in to motoblur (gets stuck in a loop)
I can't create a new motoblur account (crashes at 80% every time)
I can't skip the sign in process (takes me back to the motoblur sign in page instead of loading home screen)
This is my first and last Motorola phone. Not good at all.
So what happens if you press press home or back repeatedly instead of skip? And if all fails reflash new SBF

It just goes back to the motoblur setup/signin screen no matter how many time I press home, back or skip. It's as if a dll is missing and it's unable to boot to the home screen.
How do I flash a new SBF?
Motorola have agreed to let me return it but if I can do it myself I'd rather do it.
I have found this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11155476#post11155476
but the link to the UK SBF is dead
Yeah, that's the one, and the link to UK SBF works fine for me. If you can't get it to flash that way, then you are going to have to do it the way I am about to do mine, which is...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804088
Failing that, send it back and be done with it.
since its so new id send it back. you shouldnt be having this problem at all. the milestone 2 is a very solid phone. i had mine running for 90 days straight not even a reboot or crash or anything lol. sounds like you just got a duff one. with any piece of technology theres bound to be a few that slip through the net. even if you find a fix for your problem you dont know what is causing it. and if youve had problems before then somethings obviously wrong. since theyve agreed to let you return it then thats your best option.
Probably i should send mine one back as well.
Bought a new Milestone 2 yesterday (from ebay, Chinese guys but as per retail package phones are for UK market). Put the SIM in just to check before wiping out everything from my old Defy. Made a call, checked the version and the menu and put the SIM back to Defy to backup all I needed. Plugged Milestone to the mains. 3 hours later found promising "Fully charged" on the screen and put the SIM in. That was it... Since I can't power the phone whatever I do. I thought the Power button went off as I tried to perform hard reset (x+Pwr), BRM (Arrow up+Pwr) and nothing happent at all. But then I put the phone on the charger again and the Power button worked fine switching the screen off and back on.
Any other methods to get the phone running?
UPDATE: It's strange and weird, but I've just had an idea to remove SD card and it worked - the phone powered on immediately!! Formatted the card using card reader, put it back - the phone works flawlessly. Fantastic! =))
