HTC Incredible vs Samsung Vibrant: HTC Incredible is faster? - Vibrant General

I have the Vibrant. My friend has the Incredible. I compared the two.
While on paper the Vibrant tops the Incredible in terms of hardware (aside from camera related areas), the Incredible seems to be a bit more snappy. Now I am not saying the Vibrant is "slow", but rather there is noticeable ~.5-1 sec delay when opening messaging, for example, where as the Incredible has none, at all. (I have applied Ryan's lagfix and hit 2.2k on Quadrant... wish Quadrant results would reflect actual performance.)
Seeing as how Vibrant has the better hardware, my guess is it must be Sense UI vs TouchWiz thing. I love TouchWiz (don't flame me) but if it is the one causing my otherwise great phone to slow down... I will nuke the thing.
What do you guys think?

I thought I saw that the incredible was starting to see froyo. Has he updated? That would make a huge difference. If you are seeing lash on the Samsung specific apps. I would say it is likely touchwiz vs. sense thing.

We need a later firmware revision. The one we have isn't very good. Later versions reduce or eliminate the type of lag you're talking about.
Besides that, I don't know what you're trying to prove here

My guess would be it's Touchwiz that causes this but there could also be other factors involved. I have a friend with an incredible and he replaced his messaging with handcent because the lag he was getting from opening the messaging app itself as well as the threads.

Have you applied the "fix" yet? I don't see any delays or lag when I open apps.

if you apply the "lag fix" i'm almost certain you won't be able to notice any slow downs in terms of opening applications.
from the limited knowledge I have of the whole "samsung vibrant lag" it's caused by the way the vibrant processes I/O read/write? it's very inefficient as compared to other phones. the fix is a work around and it literally makes it amazingly "snappy" and fast.
I'm choosing to hold off on the fix for now, people reporting issues and having to ODIN flash back to stock is turning me off.
*edit - totally missed the part that said you applied the lag fix. reading comprehension ftl

The problem is it isn't just on messaging; its pretty much everywhere (except browsing... browsing is blazing fast.)

I have a friend with an incredible its a few months old but I found the opposite to be true. Using her phone made me appreciate the speed of the vibrant, I almost felt like I was back using a G1. my phone is about as stock as you can get aside from running launcher pro instead of the regular home app.

2.2 will only make this thing faster. I use touchwiz to show off my phone. It is a lil choppy but never slow. I think our only competitor when we get 2.2 will be the x but for some reason im not worried.

Me neither. Had it since release. No lag and about 120 apps installed...
Just need 2.2 and I'm golden....
Gps even works good here... lol

After spending more time with TouchWiz's launcher, I can safely say it is the root of a lot lag. Sucks because I really like it.

Is the Samsung Fascinate a good choice?

I'm due for an upgrade on Nov. 18th, and wanted to know the goods and bads of this phone from my fellow XDA Community. Basically, I want to know:
1. Will the lagfix potentially fix any "lag" on the phone beforehand?
2. Is the GPS as bad as people say it is?
3. Is Screen Burn in a problem with the Super Amoled Screen?
4. Is the Camera and Camcorder any good?
I'm coming from a Droid Eris and want to get the best phone out there that can last me for a year.
Ok my personal opinion:
Camera is great!!!
Video Recording is great
Screen Is great!!!
GPS is quirky (might be fixed with 2.2 update)
Touchwiz is boring , slow etc
Great design!
But i got rid of mine, in hopes that the htc desire hd is being released this month on verizon! The new Sense UI is awesome .......my opinion others love stock android ui!
Just saw your coming from a HTC Eris..........then honestly if you like the Sense UI, dont get this!
Goodluck!
I came from an Eris too and I love this! (I got rid of the Sense UI on my Eris with a custom ROM) Personally I don't have any problem with lag even without a lagfix, my GPS works just fine, and call quality is great. It is a big improvement from the Eris, the battery life is definitely better, and I really have nothing bad to say about it. The only thing I miss is the LED notification but there are ways around that. The camera and camcorder work great - excellent picture quality, and no screen burn in that I have seen so far anyway.

Wtf does HTC sense have to do with the Samsung phone. I never flame but that is dumb as hell to say. Touchwiz and sense are not even close. Besides. Put LP on there and forget it. People only slam it when its not their cup of tea. I have literally had every phone Verizon has release since the Droid 1 and I ****ing love my fascinate. The new HTC will likely be a ***** to root much like the others. And Verizon WILL NOT GET DESIRE HD. it will likely be the exact same phone but not called that. But in Sherwood's defense ill say that's one hella good looking phone. But I am gonna keep my fascinate til LTE and by the. That HTC will be shot BC it wont have LTE. if u want to be impressed read about how much better fascinate screen and CPU /GPU Are than any other phone. If u like to game the Samsung galaxy phones are the absolutely best made for that
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Untrue statement about Sense UI being better than Touchwiz. I have had the eris, incredible and now the facinate and touchwiz is just fine. Load ADW as your launcher and you will really dig this phone over the eris for sure.
IMO... GPS is not that big of an issue for me as there are some work arounds to get satellites to lock quicker and if I do get burn in on my screen I will have it replaced. With the 2.2 update just around the corner it should help make this a more solid phone. (Especially after the developers get a hold of it!) If your ok with the size of the incredible, there isn't a better phone made but it lacks a good car dock/mount and the best case ever made, "kickstand case". My incredible did have a little better cell signal also... Having said that, good luck. The facinate will be a huge upgrade from the eris. And as stated before, this is all (IMO) with experience with all three.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Depending on your screen size preferences and the reviews you might want to take a look at the Samsung Continuum when it comes out - should be before your upgrade date. If you must have a notification when things happen then the ticker seems to be a great idea. We have yet to see how it affects battery life though.
1. Yes. Also depends on your level of annoyance to the lag.
2. No.
3. None evident at all, after a month and a half.
4. Yes. I have always loved the sammy panorama feature.
No regrets at all.
good day.
Coming from a moto droid this phone is great!
Camera and camcorder are great
gps is iffy at time but works prob get fixed
I like touchwiz and find it not laggy at all in fact its one of the only launchers that dont lag when used with lwp. I mean launcher pro does not lag alot but u can see it in the app drawer alittle touchwiz app drawer has zero lag.
I dont use lagfix (uninstalled) i see no need for it actually i think just running the stock deodexed rom makes for a super smooth experiance.
Problem is, I'm deciding between a Samsung Fascinate with AWESOME hardware (love that GPU) and a Droid X with 2. 2. It's hard!
Sent from Eris with Froyo
Go to a corporate store and play with both of them - I briefly considered the Droid X but when I tried it out in the store, it just seemed slow and somehow cumbersome and not just from the size - even stock the Fascinate was smoother to me.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
If you liked the ERIS......... stay with SENSE UI. Its hard to give it up. I regret it!!!
As far as Games , if you want a gaming phone WAIT TILL THERE ARE QUALITY GAMES. And not 1 year old IPHONE PORTS.
Wait a little longer trust me.
BTW I had the droid X the camera was complete garbage!!! And I prefer capacative buttons at the bottom and not tactile ones like the x.
But again stay with sense. You get alot of built in options stock instead of 3rd party addons to get same options. Like copy and paste, and scrollable widgets.
Goodluck!!
I'll just have to wait and see.

1. I don't notice any lag for normal use. It only really lags on me when installing things from the Market, but I'm guessing this is a general issue with Android
2. GPS lock can take 10-20 sec, but isn't that bad. I've found that always leaving GPS on as opposed to turning it off/on as needed helps keep the lag from being as bad.
3. Haven't noticed any burn in on my phone
4. I haven't taken many pictures yet, but the one's I have taken have been good for a phone camera
I'd say go to a store and play with both devices. After using the capacitive buttons on the Fascinate for a couple weeks now, the physical buttons of the Droid X seemed annoying when I played around with one a few days ago. Also, if you're waiting until the 18th, FroYo should be out not long after that, and that is when I'd expect a lot of development to start up for ROMs and kernels, so the software should hopefully catch up to the great hardware in a couple months.
Droid X VS Fascinate
I just picked up the Fascinate a few days ago after returning the X. I had the X for three weeks. I agree with the poster that noted how BAD the X camera is. So far with the sammy I have not had any issues lag,GPS or otherwise. I had a Tmo Vibrant and loved it. My only complaint about the fascinate is the lack of 2.2. Other than that I think its the perfect size and weight. I currently carry and iPhone 4 and the Fascinate. I dont think I have taken the iPhone out of my laptop bag since I got the Samsung.

No, you shouldn't. Right now the Nexus Two is a mythical device that does not exist. Even if Google does decide to make one, it won't be out anytime soon, and there's a good chance it wouldn't be on Verizon first, if at all.
I came from an Eris myself, and had no problem dumping Sense UI. In fact, the last month I had it, I was running the KaosFroyo ROM, which is based on stock Froyo. Once I installed LauncherPro Plus, Dialer One, and a few other goodies, I realized that it was even better than when it ran Sense UI. If I were you, I would grab the Fascinate over the Droid X, because te hardware is superior, and Froyo will be out for it soon enough. Bing is a non-issue, since it can easily be removed by rooting, if you don't like it.

Why does the Evo have screen lag?

I noticed that the Evo has a touch sensitive lag that is more apparent than any other device. A lot of noobs here thought it was due to the FPS but obviously it wasn't. I can figure it out myself because logically, screen size does not change how heat is transfered between the screen. I'm really curious what exactly it is.... notice how on the iPhone/iPad/iTouch there is zero to no lag in touch display and movement which is what makes gaming on Apple so wicked. The Evo is by far the worst device for this.... Its not a deal breaker by any means, but it is very noticeable when switching between an Apple product and the Evo.
Anyone got any theories as to what it may be? The lag is definitely there but nobody is really talking about it. There MUST be a fix - and NO its not putting custom rom like CM6 on it... its not a rom issue.
I really hope that in future devices Android phone makers will focus on reducing lag times. If there is any apparent gap between iOS and Android besides that app market it would be the lag issue. The reason I even thought of this was when reading a gaming thread earlier today - made me curious...
Oh I totally agree! Just spent 30 mins on 1 level of angry birds trying to be precise and ugh....I'm still trying to calm down.....damn frustration. I've never really spent more than 5 mins with an apple phone so I can't compare. But I could totally tell the lag. But really I've only actually noticed it a couple of times so I dunno what's up

Though I have seen the lag disappear with the addition of Kingx BFS11 kernel. So technically it's not a rom, but a kernel has fixed it for me.

Well, my EVO is pretty responsive, scrolling and pressing things is super responsive.
Kinda weird, but I open the App menu and just scroll through the apps list up and down, kinda weird but it's just fascinates me sometimes .
Maybe you have too much processes going on?
I'm using EvIo Caulkin ROM
Yeah, this problem was a big letdown for me... like you said, not a deal breaker, but very annoying. It just seems to be tiny things that they overlooked. But it appears not so tiny when a lot of other people notice the issue as well.

I only notice it with Sense UI... Other phones like the Epic or whatever, seem to have less of a lag with touch. The minute I install an AOSP ROM, it's butter smooth and more responsive.
And it's not a ROM issue, just a Sense issue.

That's not what the OP is talking about. You're thinking of "visual smoothness", the OP is talking about touch accuracy.
Here's a article that goes into it and shows how much better the iPhone is. It's from earlier this year, so no EVO or iPhone 4 comparisons, but it should be a similar case for both.
never had any issues with screen lag/responsiveness.
On a side note though, and very weird, I went to do a test in Angry Birds like someone had mentioned and Angry Birds was mysteriously no longer installed on my phone...bizarre....
Well, guess I misunderstood the OP as well. Mine is very responsive. Sorry.

I'm using MIUI and Zen kernel and have no noticeable lag, even when playing games. I will say, however, that the glass screen of the iPhone does give it a performance boost on touchscreen response.
i had some lag issues with fresh 3.4 with the stock kernel switched to kings bfs 11 touch lag gone don't know why but it was switched to net's and lag was back left that kernel on and recalibrated the touch screen by calibrateing the keyboard and lag disapeared again but that was me don't know if it will work for anyone else

Actually, the touch panel on the evo is simply the best on the market. Look up Atmel MaXTouch... This might simply be a driver issue or even a design decision.
Atmel maXtouch: http://www.atmel.com/products/touchscreens/default.asp
Unlimited touches
Low power consumption
Fast response — completely redraws screen every 4/1000 of a second (4ms) to
eliminate recalibration issues
Excellent signal-to-noise ratio for superior precision — 3x better than competitive
products
Superior performance for first-touch response — 3x better than competitive
products
Unambiguous, unlimited touch support
Responsive user interface: > 250 Hz report rate for a single touch
Extremely low current consumption: < 1.8 mW in "touch-ready" state
Two touch adjacency of less than 10 mm on a 4.3 inch (10.9 cm) touchscreen
Small footprint with few external components
Supports stylus, fingernails, and gloves
Grip and face suppression functionality: avoids false touches
Size and angle of touch supported
Screen sizes up to 10.2 inches (25.9 cm) are supported by a single chip
Proximity channel support

It even supports gloved hands if the OEM wants that enabled.
The only lag I have is when the phone is plugged in/charging. Other than that there is absolutely no other lag on my Evo. Those that are experiencing lag make sure it's not during charging.
On a side note the OP is truly an iPhone bias according to his previous post. Thought It's pretty funny.

If you're up-to-date and you have a significant amount of free space on your internal storage and your phone is still laggy... return it because it's obviously defective.
Try a factory reset and/or a new kernel. Then kill off some of the sprint and htc bloatware.
Going from HTC Kernel #11 to #17 there was a noticeable difference in performance for me.
Going from there to AOSP was a complete improvement.
The stock rom is unbearable once you use a tweaked rom.
If none of that works I would bet your phone is defective and you should go back to your iphone.
Want to supply us with a software version and kernel version of your phone?
Or atleast something more than "The Evo sucks and the iphone is great"

Googles new market is a FAYUL!!!!

Its so laggy and really irritating...it looks great but when updating apps it slows my phone up so bad! I look at google in disgust when they release crap like this...i know they are better than this, they need to show it.

The market app is a huge improvement in aesthetics
What it does, however, is showcase Android failure IRT UI Accelleration.
It's laggy on a Galaxy S phone. I can only imagine what it would have been like on the Aria I had a while back, or on another low-spec phone.
It seriously runs like I'm trying to run Crysis on Max Settings with an Integrated Graphics card in a computer from 2006...
But the overall looks of the market, and the functionality are a huge improvement.
I do think they should have allowed us to choose out of like 3 or so color schemes, though. Green on white is not cute...

For me the search and downloads on the new market are just way faster. And I also just love the UI. MAYBE its because I'm on froyo but the old market just gave me hang downloads it was just stuck & would not install. Cancelling and redownloading about 2 or 3 times actually got the app installed. Xoom lag issues

Anyone else have lag issues when unlocked, rooted, with oc'd kernel installed running at any speed. I mostly notice when coming out of standby mode. Text input on web pages is considerably slow, also loading of web pages. When opening apps it doesn't seem to be affected other than movie playback. Any feedback would be appreciated.....

this happens to me too but it never lastes more than a min or two.
hmmm i havent noticed this at all. have been overclocked for a little over 2 weeks with only a couple restarts due to theme installs
i mean it isn't something that is super noticable for me but sometimes my keyboard lags for a couple mins but then it gets back to normal. i mean it is expected when you have a device that still hasn't had its "official full" update lol.

No kidding. Flash back to stock Eclair on the Captivate to turbo charge your Xoom.
If you are running performance mode with setcpu and have a min freq above 250, the CPU will drop to 250 when you turn screen off and not go above it.
Simple fix is to keep setcpu on "on demand", but you can also keep it on performance and manually bump the freq up by going into setcpu every time you turn the screen on.

You have something wrong then. I do not have that experience. In fact, if I try to do some intense things like video recording using your Captivate ROM, my phone chokes where my Xoom does not. Granted, the Xoom does lag for me with certain things, mostly certain web sites in the browser including this site, the overall responsiveness has been just as good or better than my Captivate with your ROM.
Perhaps you should be more specific on what you have installed, how your screens are configured, what widgets you are using, etc. so maybe the culprit can be identified. Are you full stock with nothing installed and experiencing this?
I disagree. You have a bad unit or your doing something wrong. Back off the bashing.

I'd say that the Xoom is as bad as stock Eclair was.

im not rooted and i still get lag

If you are running performance mode with setcpu and have a min freq above 250, the CPU will drop to 250 when you turn screen off and not go above it.
Simple fix is to keep setcpu on "on demand", but you can also keep it on performance and manually bump the freq up by going into setcpu every time you turn the screen on.

This is true. When i had it set to performance i noticed significant lag. When i changed it to on demand it became much smoother.

G2X is buggy

I just switched from a Vibrant to the G2X today. For those of you thinking of switching over you should know that it's buggier than a Tijuana whore house! It's so bad in fact that an entire thread has been started so people can list the myriad problems with it. Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053737
Hell, mine is perfect, no issues..
Remember all the vibrant threads on issues when it was first released? Gps, buttons, signal, cheap etc...
The phone is a beast just like the vibrant despite all the issues it was said to have....
Most of the lil bugs it has is software.. I love my g2x I recommend it to anyone..
I like mine too and have no doubt that the problems will be addressed, either by LG or by dev's making custom ROM's. A RC for Cyanogenmod should be out in a couple of weeks. However if you read some of the posts on that link you'll see that the issues are a little more serious than crappy GPS or slow updates.
no problems here. battery life sucked at first but a factory reset + deleting battery stats fixed that.
seems like besides the LCD bleeding most users are having a good experience with their phones.
Yup I looked at the 2gx but recognized alot of QC problems and just figured I ll wait for S2........... nice to know my gut was right .....
The only outstanding thing about the G2x seems to be its speed, I checked it out at a Tmo store and yeah it's fast but only because of its dual core CPU and stock-like Froyo. I am running Vibrant with Master's Axura ROM and it doesn't feel that much slower than the G2x when it comes to running apps but the webpages opened faster on the G2x (due to its 4G antenna).
The screen quality was very blah after I got spoiled by my Vibrant's Super AMOLED. I am holding out for the Galaxy-2. Even Engadget gave it a glowing review and you know that's something since Engadget's usually too busy sucking Apple's **** to write anything good about non-iCrap phones.

Too true about Engadget. I guess I just got a phone from a bad batch. This one has every bug in the book. Crazy battery drain, random reboots, freezes when it goes to sleep. I can't even return it because I got it on the sly from my buddy that works at T-Mo.
OP, you sound suprised... Why?
Not surprised, just disappointed.
What is G2x? :|

Google LG G2X
Almost all phones comebout buggy and there is a quick OTA to fix, I wouldn't worry about it they will get it right.

When I update multiple apps on the Vibrant, while an app is installing, my phone is completely unusable. Neither the HTC G2 that I tried for a week or the G2X so much as breaks into a sweat. I don't know what it is about the Vibrant that causes this. Initially, I thought it was the RFS file system. But even with Bionix and the Voodoo fix, an app install renders the phone unusable until it's complete.

It does not make sense. We all gonna get a new phone and Vibrant is the past (G2X is superior to the Vibrant in every aspect (THIS IS SO OBVIOUS) except for the Screen and ). Would you trade your G2X for a Vibrant ??? If you're kind enough to to that, then it is fine to compare G2X to our good old man Vibrant.
