[Q] Activestink problems - Droid 2 General

Anyone else having issues with Exchange activesuck forcing pin to unlock every 15 mins even when the server is not set to do that?
Touchdown doesnt do that, neither does coworkers EVO. I have double checked the settings on the server. I can set the security to be higher, like a 6 digit pin, or a password, but it wont just remove it no matter what i do.

Yes. As soon as I added an Exchange account, it forced me to choose a PIN.
Extremely annoying.

I have that too. Pretty annoyed by it.

Yes mine does that too... as well as only half of the Exchange contacts will sync with it as is being discussed heavily on the Motorola site... //supportforums.motorola.com/message/213234#213234
The clock is ticking on the 30 day return policy, Exchange contacts is a deal breaker if this isn't addressed quickly.

Does the droid x do this too? I am not really interested in the incredible.

Exchange notification problems.

Is anyone else having problems getting alerts or notifications for new email that hits exchange?
New email flows in but the notification bar never shows it, despite it being set to do so.
For whatever it's worth, exchange notifications do show up in the status bar for me.
They work for me as well. It must be something unique with your config.
They work for me sometimes, and sometimes not.
I am hoping the Verizon update due out anytime will help.
Darn. Just noticed after last nights update and reboot that I did have a new message come in with no status bar notification.

There is a thorough Motorola support forum thread on this subject. It looks like Moto really dropped the ball on pre-release exchange testing. You should consider yourself lucky, I can't even connect to Exchange .
It's looking as if the SSL doens't even work, so if you unckeck SSL, it still looks for the cert. We don't have SSL here, so we're out of luck...they claim to be working on a fix.

This is a major oversight, I mean come on, I know that their PCS division at Moto moved to Gmail, but the rest of their company is still on exchange how could they mess this up out of the box?
I get some notifications, like 1 in 20 emails. Really frustrating.
I so I set mine to sync to the last week. First time I go in it does that slowly. Next time I hit refresh it sync's the whole damn inbox (but not my other folders). Then I can't receive anymore mail (push worked the first time) which I'm assuming is because the inbox is full on the phone... maybe.
No ssl on our server either so i couldn't connect. Had to resort to spending the money on touchdown but it works so well i can't complain. I also don't mind keeping the work stuff separate

Did you make sure push was turned on? I noticed that my exchange account was defaulted to push off.

I'm having major issues as well. To be honest this really impacts the useablilty of the device for me. We are very email centric where I work. My iPhone on the other hand somethings notifies me before the Outlook client on my laptop... Grrr.
Same issue here. Calander/Gmail/Text/etc. all work with the notification bar but my Exchange email does not pop up on the notification bar.

Give it a shot. Works wonders for me
I have been using Seven, works great, just a bit of a hassle to have to have two apps handling different types of email accounts.
This issue has been present while using WIFI. Turn off wifi and restart your phone. The phone will start getting pushed mail again.
Really annoying...

[Q] Email not auto checking?

Have a weird problem. Got the Epic on release day, set up my two emails that I want to be able to check from the phone, a POP3 account and a Gmail (that is not associated to the phone to sync).
Both are set to auto check for new mail every 5 mins. Everything worked great for about a day, but then stopped.
Neither email account is auto checking for mail regardless of the frequency I set it to. 5 mins, 10 mins, hourly, etc.
If I go into the inbox however for one of the email accounts it seems to instantly check for new mail and then all the messages show up.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Ok, after doing some Googling and coming across a comment on some random site I did a little test.
I have two email accounts configured, and both were set to check every 5 minutes. It seems that the stock email app has some kind of issue initiating more than one email check at a time, so if you have multiple accounts and have them set to the same check frequency, it breaks. I left one account at 5 minutes, set the other to 10 minutes, and they both were able to receive test messages I sent.
How retarded.
Hopefully there will be a fix for this at some point.
Mine is doing this too! however i do have them on different times. i haven't got a notification i got email i have to click email then it loads the messages?
Any way to fix this?
Exactly what mine was doing but putting the frequency check times at different times 5 min & 10 min seemed to have fixed it.
I just sent two more test emails to make sure it wasn't a fluke and will report back if it did indeed fix mine or just happened to work once after I had rebooted the phone.
Hmm,..previous test was a fluke maybe affected by having gotten an SMS around the same time...
Mine is still broken.
I have found that the email app must stay running in the background in order to sync additional mailboxes other than the default gmail account. Make sure any task killers are configured to ignore the email app. Using the Home key to exit mail works for me. YMMV!

I don't have any task killers installed, but I do exit the mail program with the back button.
I'll try starting it up, and then just exiting using the home button to see if that changes the behavior.
I'll report back the results.

i let it run and didn't end it and it still didn't work i just have my email. i just forwarded my aol to gmail and now i dont have have to worry about it.
im having the same issue... This could be a deal breaker for me
Also the damn battery takes 4 hours to fully charge
Ok, leaving the email app running in the background by using the home key to exit it vs the back key made no difference. Still doesn't refresh the inbox until you open the email app up and go into it.
This sucks.
Anyone?

How is this relevant to the topic?
i have 2 yahoos and a gmail and they are all updating fine. who is the provider of this email service?
One is a Gmail account the other a POP3 that had no issues over the last 5-6 years on WinMo using Sprint, nor on Android on my old Touch Pro, so that isn't the issue.
After roaming around the net a bit, it seems this a fairly widespread issue with no known fixes yet.
I also have this issue, and its quite frustrating. I have email accts for hotmail, gmail, yahoo, and aol. The only one that gets mail properly is the hotmail account, since it's set up using ActiveSync. The others often don't show as getting new email for about a day or so unless I manually go into each account. Only then will it realize there are new messages.
I too am having the same problem. My default e-mail is a comcast account set up to check every 5 mins. My 2nd acct is a gmail acct set to check every 30 mins. Coming to this phone from a blackberry and my curve would get the e-mails faster than my PC's outlook would.
I rooted my wife's EVO the day she got it bc she hated all the pre-loaded sprint bs. I'm in the same boat with my epic, but i'm hesistant to root it and load an Android 2.2 rom because i want to wait for bugs like this to be fixed.
I'm also getting a pop-up error msg on my epic about 4-5 times per day that says something along the lines of "unable to connect to network", even though i have service on the top "taskbar". The pop-up gives me the option to retry or cancel. Either selection doesn't seem to do anything. I have wi-fi, 4g, gps, and bluetooth turned off for battery life. I don't know if this could correlate to the e-mail syncing problem so I figured i'd toss it out there.
You know, the frustrating thing is I sit here and wait for months for this phone to come out and then they have all these problems with it. My wife's HTC EVO hasn't had a single problem since day 1 and she got it on release day too. The only thing good i can say about this epic compared to the evo (with exception of the slide out keyboard) is the battery life is marginally better on standby.
Subscribing to see what the fix is...
A lot of sites are rumoring there being some type of OTA update near the end of September. Some say it will just e fixes and patches for 2.1 for things exactly like this, others are crossing their fingers that it may be Froyo.
Either way, as long as it fixes this issue I'll be happy...so we'll just have to cross our fingers, wait and see.
lately my e-mail checking has been getting worse, sometimes not even syncing certain items. i went into settings and compared the send receive port #'s to the ones set up in my outlook, and the settings were all wrong as well as the port #'s. I changed them all to match my outlook and now everything is working fine for the moment. time will tell if this was the problem.
I'd be surprised if that fixes it for you.
I know that isn't the issue with mine. All of my manually configured server settings are correct and it still does it.
Crossing my fingers this will be patched/updated at some point, but until then I have MailDroid installed which is getting new mail notifications perfectly. I don't really like MailDroid as much as the integrated client, so whenever MailDroid lets me know I have an email, I just go into the stock email client and manually refresh to read/reply/etc.

Bypass Exchange lock screen?

I would like to stop putting in a password every time the phone restarts, or isn't used for more than 10 minutes or so. It's a result of my exchange account at work.
I noticed people had found solutions for other phones, but how would we accomplish this for our Fascinates?
I run an exchange server, and as long as there is not a policy with a timeout, it will never ask you for your password, even after reboot.
After all, your phone itself should be passworded already.
With a timeout policy in place, I don't see a means of subverting it without removing the policy

This sucks. I can either have work email on my phone, and be the go to guy if something goes wrong, and have to enter a password every 20 minutes, OR, not.
hrmmmm
thanks for the info
The lockout requirement is dictated by policies on your Exchange server. You cannot override them, at least not easily, and I would not recommend doing so, as there's a reason those policies exist. If you want an alternative solution, buy the Touchdown email application. The security PIN will then be enforced when opening that app, as opposed to unlocking the phone itself. It is also far superior to any stock Android email app in both features and compatibility.

Any way past corporate-required PIN locks?

My company upgraded their exchange server, and now requires lock screens (PIN or password, no pattern) if we want to access email on our personal phones.
As someone with a rooted phone, is there any way to disable this and still have access to my corporate email? It's really annoying to have to punch in a PIN 500 times a day, but I really do need email access on my phone as much as I'm on the road.
I think this has been discussed before, but maybe on a different phone (HeroC maybe) But essentially no there isn't away - to access the server the phone goes through a series of checks, one of the checks being that an appropraite pin was entered to unlock the phone. if that check fails, authentication to the server is denied. Someone *might* be able to spoof the check in the email app, but I am fairly sure its actually OS deep, not just within the mail client.
So it would be a large undertaking and potentially could cause you to loose your job by by passing security measures. I know I wouldn't think twice about firing someone who did it on my network.
No way that I know of, and is something that is on pretty much everyphone. Blackberrys the security policies can even block installation of 3rd party applications.
What's even more fun for you, is the ability of your it staff to lock you out of your phone or even remotely wipe your phone.

I think you are stuck. Do you have the option of getting a company-supplied phone to access the company email, and keep your personal Android separate?
There is a thread in Q&A talking about an app that does this.
Do you BONSAI?
Actually there is a way I had to do it to my coworkers phone for her pattern lock
What u need: locked phone phones #, wifi or u can use wifi tether if u have another phone
1. Call the persons phone #
2. Leave phone call connected on both sides
3. Connect to wifi if u havnt already
4. Goto settings/accounts manager setting or what ever and log into a diff google account then it should require u to change the password to by pass it
Should work hopefully I read this thread correctly and answered appropietly
Edit sorry read it wrong and u don't think there is a way
My way is how u get around it

I thought it was just being big brother, turns out its a regulatory requirement since we were bought by a publicly traded company. I guess I'll deal with it. If it pisses me off too much I'll just get rid of my exchange account on my phone and stop responding to emails when I'm not at my desk.
A possible workaround would be to try touhdwn for your exchange mail instead of the default mail client. Its a paid app but there should be a demo version in the market. I have a dp2 for work and they pay for touchdown for us. When using touhdown it pin locks just the app instead of whole phone. On my Droid at least moto customized the screen timeout and lock to be different timers so I found the pin to be less annoying than the interface of touchdown.
With the epics slightly bigger screen to make the TD interface a litte less annoying(lots of small buttons instead of utilizing menu button) and since epics lock is all or nothing I think I might actually use TD on my epic if I were getting my corp email there.
While not a complete removal of the pin maybe it would at least make it less annoying for you. Plus I'd guess if work catches you wihout a pin it might not go over well. TD solution lets you protect the email if you lose your phone, and does have a remote wipe for the same scenario.

TIP: Adding Exchange/Hotmail support to GMail

If anyone is interested, the Exchange service on the G4 (at least the T-Mobile version) can be disabled via the apps menu and Google Exchange services can be installed.
This will allow you to use the GMail app with Exchange enabled hosts, like Hotmail/Outlook.com and retain push mail, contact and calendar sync.
Recommended steps:
If you have any accounts using email and exchange, remove them first.
Open Settings/General/Apps/All
Tap on Exchange (The LG one with the blue icon)
Force stop
Disable the Exchange Service
(Restarting your phone is recommended at this point)
Install Google Exchange Services
(Restarting your phone is recommended at this point as well)
Open GMail and you will have Exchange as an option when you add an account.
This is gold to me.
Thanks.
sweet thx!
edit: oops that didn't work for me it gets stuck constantly sync'ing and has some exchange service crashes hmm...
Works fine here so far. I just wish you could disable the remote administration requiring your device to use a PIN. I'd love to use Smart Lock.

It's important that you remove any old exchange accounts in email first, then force close the LG exchange service and disable it. If you don't disable it, then GMail will get stuck syncing.

Just waiting on root so I can keep my damn unlock screen without having to put in an 8 character password with numbers and special characters every time I want to unlock my phone.
I might just bite the bullet and buy touchdown for $20 because I heard it doesn't need to apply the permissions to your whole phone but just the app.

This. I have used Smart Lock on my N5 with no problems even though we are required to have a PIN. Fired up the G4 and immediately noticed once I setup email Smart Lock was grey and can't be used. I thought that by switching to Gmail for my Exchange email I could get around that only to find Gmail doesn't have Exchange support on this phone (until I found this thread).
Has anyone that has followed the instructions at the top been able to get Smart Lock working when Gmail is used for Exchange email? Or does Touchdown get around this?
I am going to test this out tonight - can't goof around too much while on the job!!

Outlook bypasses the security requirement, but it appears to only sync email, not calendars or contacts. You get prompted that Exchange wants you to accept these changes, but you have an option to deny them.

I'll have to look at that new outlook app closer then. It prompted me for the security permissions to wipe phone, pin, and all that crap so I exited out.
Touchdown is supposed to be all one contained environment so I don't think it syncs with the default apps. I could be wrong as I have never tried it since I always got a PIN bypasser working on my old phones. It is free for a month so try it out! I don't care about contacts and it would be nice to have calendar but I'm not heartbroken over it. What I would like to know is if you still get a notification of new mail. I would assume so but aren't allowed to preview it which is fine but I at least need to know I have mail.

Yeah that request seems to be standard whenever you setup Outlook, regardless of app. It was when it came to the lock screen settings, it allowed me to dismiss it.
I just tried the Outlook app and it required far less permissions then adding an exchange email through the android/lg settings. The regular settings wanted pretty much everything. Wipe, disable camera, password type, password length, password expiration, encrypt phone, disable sd card, etc etc. It had everything and probably because my company just checked everything. Now the question is if it would really do any of those things probably not because that it a further settings in Exchange but it just wants to be able to do all that.
The Outlook just wanted password rules, unlock attempts, lock screen, and encrypt phone. It asked to encrypt and I said no and phone still works. I was able to keep pattern lock screen but it disabled everything else besides pin and password. The Outlook app does not integrate well with Android so everything is contained in it's own app. I don't think it does notifications either since I sent an email and waited a good 10 minutes. My phone never went off but I open the app the email shows up but never as a notification.
So maybe the Outlook app will get you by for the time being.
Hrm - I'm on an LG G4 (EU H815 model, unlocked). No Google Exchange Services visible or available in the Play Store ...
I also have an old Galaxy S3 running 5.1.1 (PacMan rom) - that has Gmail with Exchange working just fine. It has the same version of Gmail as on the G4, but also has "Exchange Services" running. I can't find any other information on that though.
[EDIT] I just checked the link in the OP which looks like the latest apk, but the button for Play Store doesn't work - URL doesn't exist.
Quick question - I haven't disabled LG Exchange on the G4 yet - when I do it says that the app will be hidden from then on. What if one wants to re-enable it - will it still be visible on the Apps menu ?
TIA

Have you been able to figure this out? I have coworkers on a N6, N5, and a HTC One (M7), who all have our Corporate E-mail linked to their phone via either gmail or the htc e-mail app. They can all access their respective Smart Lock settings. On my phone, its grayed out.
Confused on what this does? Just lets you add a second exchange account to gmail? Are emails mixed together or do they remain separated? I like having my Email and Gmail in 2 different apps. I also like the LG email app.
