Hide apps - Hero, G2 Touch General

I have completely forgotten where to find the setting to hide various apps on the app menu. Can someone refresh my memory, cheers
On 1.2.1

Edit default 'dock' icons?

Hey guys, sorry if this has been answered, I did search, I swear!
I've heard I should be able to edit the dock icons other than the app/home icon.. For the love of God I can't figure out how!
Anyone want to enlighten me?
EDIT:
Turns out they called it 'apps' and 'toolbar':
t=726399
go into the app draw > menu > edit then drag and drop to the toolbar.

Is this in the regular settings menu?
I opened up my applications and then selected the context button and changed the type to custom, and then selected edit.

That worked!! Thank you!!
I must be stupid because I dont get it... when i go in my apps and click menu I just have the option to sort... nothing about editing anything
Edit:
Click application menu>edit>customizable grid
Then in applications menu>edit

open app draw > menu > view type > customizable grid > take you back to app draw.
menu > edit > takes you back to app draw > press and hold icon to move it or drag to the tool bar.
Shooooo. That's the antonym of intuitive.
FYI to the OP and to others who may not have know, this and a lot more is in the sticky.

[Q] Is there a way to force a menu to appear?

I have several apps which work fine on phone.
They also run on the tablet - BUT there is no menu icon, neither at the bottom next to the 3 standard ones, nor is there a menu icon in the upper right corner. There is no menu icon.
So I wonder if someone has a trick to send a "menu pressed" signal to the app so i can access the settings.
I know i know, tell them to update their apps, but some people have left and others will take years to fix that if ever -
So i thought perhaps there was some sort of shortcut or perhaps hack which could make a menu appear? You know like you can record keypresses on a PC and then play them back.
The soft menu button on the screen works fine for me, its the 4th icon (Series of lines, top one one is longest) - same goes for the menu button that's on the keyboard.

Yes..
It also works for me when they are there. But they are NOT THERE for the apps in question.
I think you got this backwards,
The menu button will only appear if the app has a settings menu.
Majority of the Honeycomb optimized apps do not have a menu button because there either isn't no menu for that app or they have moved the menu button to the action bar on the top right, which is the new standard
The settings button is primarily used for backwards compatibility with older apps. This is why developers are removing the menu buttonwhen they optimize their app.

As I also indicated, there is nothing "optimized" about these apps. (And these have many settings which are now unreachable)

Some apps on the phone will scale differently on a tab, if you used the menu button n your phone doesn't necessarily mean the tablet version will need a hard menu button.
As I said before, if there is no menu button the bottom nav bar, it would be on the top right corner of the action bar. Older phone apps should show up a menu button automatically anyway. The only reason if there isnt one is that the developer chose so because they added one on the action bar.

Can you give us an example?
I've yet to encounter a single application with this issue, so I'd like to take a look.

Dave

I see, in this case its the developers fault. For some reason he disabled the menu button which should be there by default.

I know its not there. I was asking for a hack or some way to force a program to show the menu.

Alright alright :/ Sorry that I am not any help but as far as I know there isn't any way to forcefully press the menu button.
The only option is to contact the dev and say the menu button is disabled.
If you're rooted you can install Soft Keys.

How do I create a settings icon on the desktop?

I want to create a settings shortcut that goes to the settings menu, but whenever I try to, it navigates to the actual settings and forces me to choose a sub-setting.

Go into the app drawer, long press on settings and drag it to the homescreen? Or long press on the homescreen, add an app and add the settings app? You're going to add>shortcut>settings shortcut which requires a specific setting. You need the actual settings program.
It depends on your home launcher. I know with adw pro all I do is tap and hold on empty space on home screen. Then select create custom activity and choose from there. But what you wanna look for in your home screen is to add an activity. Activities are sub classes of programs. So you would pick the settings app then select the activity of said app which you want.

Yes, to add the settings app to the homescreen you drag it out from the app drawer.

I think, from reading the OP, they are trying to access a sub setting directly from the home screen.

Nah it's the opposite, he's being forced to access a sub-setting when he just wants to launch general settings

His problem is he is being forced to select a sub-setting, which he does not want. He just wants a link to the settings app - from there he can access all the sub-settings.
Either way though, all options are now listed for him.

Lollipop hidden power management menu

To enable the hidden power menu follow belowmentioned instructions
go to homescreen
long press - click on widgets
drag settings widget (you will see diff options)
scroll down to find power saving
and there you will have all power saving settings including nvidia's custom settings.
Hope this helps.
I think you might mean:
Long tap on home screen, then tap Shortcuts.
(not widgets)

i had a problem with my tablet turning off every night even after a factory reset and changing the sleep option found under the battery settings menu. I assumed it just crashed a lot. In this menu the option was set to turn off after 6 hours.. this hidden menu was causing the problems.
Is this the same set of power options found at the top left of the battery stats when pressing the 3 dots?
yes. Look at the screenshot
No because it misses the app settings on th the raw above.

I can't find settings-->power settings in either widgets or shortcuts??
Choose the widget power settings itself, drag it to one of your home screens and open it. You will find a tab above related to app power settings.

Nova, but I reverted just to try this and no power settings widget there either.
No "Power Settings" widget
When I drag "Settings", there is no Power Settings option
Thanks for your help!
Hah! Figured it out. I just really need to listen to directions. The screen doesn't look like it scrolls further but it does. The original instructions said to SCROLL to the option. Lol.
Thanks for your help, everybody.
Thanks for the tip

Menu?

How to set to get to the menu using gestures? Is there any apk that supports this without root
I use nova launcher and this let me set up double tap to open settings. Hope that helps. [emoji6]
Ok, I also have Nova, and can be set at a single click, or in gestes?

Nova settings - gestures & inputs - select gesture then select app settings.
I think we're talking about another menu. I mean, it's marked on the photo
Sorry I can't read that.
He's talking about this menu button here http://androidapphut.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/action-bar-1-680x322.jpg
I use LMT to add it back to my phone since Google has seemed to remove it from Android

I think some of the features work even without root.
The idea is very good but no root is not useful. In addition, there is no desired menu. It's on your photo, but I've installed apps and it's not there!

You need to configure the buttons you want. It is all done from within the app. Please don't claim something does not work if you never even looked at the settings.
