Sometimes I get a picture in an MMS and it not displayed unless I click on the play button. Then it goes blank after a couple seconds. It's a picture, not a video. Does this happen to anyone else?

It's not coming up as a video it's coming up as a slideshow,
it has to do with the nature of how MMS does pictures. When you send just one picture it's like just one frame of a slideshow.

Whenever I receive a MMS picture message, the picture is always so small, and even if you zoom in, the picture looses all its quality and is grainy. Is there anyway of getting around this?

Save the pic to your gallery and then view it from there.
Anyone else have this issue?
When I receive an MMS picture, it appears very small. When I save the picture to Gallery, it is the same size, just like the size of a postage stamp, rather than full size.
I've just noticed this as well, is there a fix? i send to another phone and it's fine.

My friend has an iPhone 4. When he sends me a pic through mms i get "your phone is not compatible with this message type or size. portions of this message will not be displayed". he is just sending a picture he took not anything else. i reboot and ask him to resend and still no luck. the only thing that does work is when he zooms in on the pic then takes a screenshot of it then sends it to me.
Does anyone know why this happens? its pretty annoying.

Lol, check the size of pictures. I think mms only supports 640x to 320x

Maybe try a different sms app like GoSMS? That's what I've been using and haven't had any issues with mms... plus it allows me to zoom into pictures which the stock text messaging app wouldn't allow.
That makes sense. It would be great if there wasn't any ristriction. Or like if would automatically resize the picture before it revives or something lol.

I also use handcent. It gives me the same problem. I'm gonna try the application you mentioned. Hopefully it works for me.

Interesting.... I've received pictures from my brothers iPhone 4 just fine. That's using the stock text messaging app.
So everytime I get a mms the picture wants to open is slideshow, which is really annoying. Has anyone found a way to make it open in gallery like normal? I don't want to long press and save and all that. I just want it to open in gallery when I touch it.
Same happened if I try to send a pic. It never sends and when I click on pic it opens like it is a video.

i downloaded handcent for just opening and sending pictures, it doesnt compress them as much when sending them as well. test it yourself, send a pic to yourself, see how low the quality is, now send a pic to yourself with handcent
I wondered if it was me only! Had the same issue. I had been using handcent for almost a year and thought I'd try the 'messaging' app as I like the split screen in landscape mode. . . Because of this wired slide show issue and the white background setting never really working and the inconsistent send issue (with mms) I switched back to handcent.
Works well! Note: I had one or two mms no send issues with handcent (overall huge reduction from 'messaging' - which was near 99%) - I added '80' as my mms port in apn settings. . . I don't think I have had a send hang since.

Is there anyway to stop MMS coming in the form of slideshow? I can get one pic at a time right but any time ppl send two it becomes a slideshow.
This is the only anyoing thing for me about Android. The gs4 stock messaging app will display them as two pics not a slideshow.

Open messaging. Hit the paper clip to send a picture via mms. It opens gallery but will not load the photo.
You have go to gallery first then pick the photo and share to our messaging.
