evo keyboard apk for use on the hd2 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

The evo4g uses a slightly modified keyboard optimized for the giant screen that it has. Since the hd2 has a similarly giant screen and lacks the trackpad/ball the addition of those arrow keys from the evo keyboard would be quite welcome.
Anybody know where to find the evo's keyboard? also is it sense specific or can it be added to a generic froyo build?

Ive tried pushing it, and just installing it. I tried the odex and deodex version and it just force closes. Ended it just buying smart keyboard pro.

I found one and didn't have any luck installing it either. I do find the swiftkey beta in the market is very close in functionality to the htc keyboards. That's the one I use when I'm not using swype.

it worked on darkstone old eclair sense...

smart keyboard pro has arrow keys

Im pretty sure you need the lib *.so file that goes with the keyboard, I installed the Droid 2 keyboard and it would force close until I inserted the .so file into the system/lib/ directory.

Go to the Evo forum and see if you can get an apk packaged to install rather than messing with your system files. It is Sense specific by default: Froyo uses a different default keyboard. I was able to get Swype which shipped with the Evo to install on my darkstone Android build.

Did you managed to find the keyboard files? Please share if so! Thank you!

I spent a while hunting for this last night. Found a bunch of Evo keyboard apks, most of which refused to install & many of which needed to be flashed as an update zip - which I don't believe we can do currently. I tried overwriting the htc_ime.apk & .obex in system/apps & managed to get a garbled version with arrows working - attempts to fix it borked my HTC keyboard entirely.
Found a worthwhile solution though - the Jonas HTC keyboard mod lets you use the volume buttons as arrow keys.

Does anyone know if the Droid 2 keyboard or the Droid x Keyboard has been ported and possible to be used on our Hd2?

The multitouch Droid 2 keyboard works, see the really obvious topic on the subject in this same forum.

Droid X internal files dumped, see some on N1 soon?

Droid X has been dumped! I guess we'll see what comes out of it.
Sweet downloading now. Hopefully that multi-touch IME will work!
Thanks!
No dice on the multi touch keyboard. At least at its current state.
I pulled all of the wallpapers. Anyone have a site I can upload them to?
Im using the droid x keyboard, wallpaper and sounds on my N1 right now with no issues.
Edit: this is the best keyboard i've ever used on my nexus one. Hands down.

From what I understand the Multi-touch keyboard works on 2.1 but not 2.2
edit: posted above me answered
I found the keyboard mod. Just wish the vibrate function was working!
It is still pretty awesome though!
Any new, motorola, live wallpapers on this?
Actually what I would want to see is porting of the codecs to an n1 rom.
El Daddy, How did you get the keyboard to work?
Multi touch keyboard works, sans the vibrate
FM app also runs........
You just can't get actual reception, lol.
FM Radio .apk installed and runnig , but still no sound ,and some missing touch options !
Maybe a dev with the Knowledge can to take a look @ the code ... and make it happen !
ps. please move this >> Nexus One Android Development Section

I found it in the apps forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6938202&postcount=48
All credit goes to Daneshm90 for modding it to run on the N1.
Note: vibrate doesn't work ATM
Edit: I'm running ERE27 BTW. I just got my N1 back from HTC today for a power button fix and I havent updated my sig. They reverted me back to Eclair.
Sorry for the confusion...
Ah. Yeah I got it installed but it force closes.
any apps in there worth trying?

[Q] need help on how to push keyboard on HD2

Im using Desire Sense - BluteTopia and i really love this build. Of course I dont like the HTC sense keyboard. I want to know how i can put the keyboard that comes with stock froyo as this keyboard is much better than the sense one. But i also have the apk for the Droid X keyboard as well. Any link or directions would be awesome thanx .

[Q] LatinIME on Liberated Aria

I absolutely love everything about Liberated Aria except HTC_IME (HTC Sense keyboard). I hate that stupid keyboard.
I had the original Liberated Aria running back in August, and had installed an APK for LatinIME (the original android keyboard). It worked beautifully. Then I tried Cyanogen 6. Too buggy, horrible battery life, missed Sense. Then attn1 came out with Liberated Froyo, and I jumped right on it!
But when I tried to install either the original android keyboard (LatinIME.apk) or the droid multi-touch keyboard, no matter what I do, they force close. I've tried many different versions of each (I've been scouring the web), made sure I've pushed the lib files to /system/lib as well as the apks to /system/app, but no matter what, they force close.
Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong?
I've been having the same problem

In my opinion, Smart Keyboard Pro, with the Android skin, is a really good substitute for the stock Android keyboard.
Ironic that I just spotted this thread. Is there any harm if I rm the LatinImeTutorial.apk? I don't speak Latin, nor do I intend to use the keyboard for any Latino dialects.
I'm using Swype. Once I got accustomed to it - I can't use any other keyboard. It handles also TAB and arrow keys.

Yes. Latin the characters, not Latin the language...
Remove that and you've removed the tutorial for your keyboard.

You don't need that at all if you're already familiar with your keyboard. It doesn't affect its function what so ever.
Also to a previous post, once you've selected swype as your default keyboard you can use adb to remove both LatinIME.apk and UserDictionary.apk. I do this myself. I've never tried this with any keyboard other than swype though.

[Q] Froyo Sense Keyboard

I'm a big fan of the Liberated Froyo Sense keyboard since the keys are bigger it doesn't enables XT9 everytime the keyboard comes up, I don't like XT9 at all, I'd rather type everything myself, mostly because I use a lot of slang. I use the compact QWERTY, by the way.
Does anyone know if it could be ripped and installed on the R012? I'd love to have it again
Pretty sure there's version in forums somewhere that's been stripped to work with CM6...

That is the original HTC keyboard and it works fine on CM 6.1. In your original post you mentioned Liberated R012. That ROM already has the HTC Sense keyboard too.

Yes it does, but it is the "old" HTC Keyboard. The keys are a bit smaller than the FR07 keyboard. The FR07 keyboard is the one I'm looking for, but to use it on the R012 ROM.

OK, then chances are that the HTC_IME that you found is the "old" HTC keyboard, too. I haven't played with FRxx yet, so I haven't seen the changes that you are talking about.

Just installed HTC_IME. Yep, it's the same old keyboard but at least it doesn't go back to XT9 after switching back from the numbers/sybols buttons. In fact, I can even switch apps without going back to XT9. It's great! I just wish the keys were wider like the new keyboard.

[Q] Stock SE 2.1 Keyboard on 2.2 possible?

Hi,
im New to android. Ive had my X10 for like.... less than a month... but Ive been flashing roms like hell (Currently on WB's Arc CM6) .... but the thing ive noticed is that for every rom I tried, none seemed to have the original S.E. keyboard. (the White One. With the smileys... THE DEFAULT.) Ive grown tired of the android keyboard and better keyboard 8.... I want the old one. Is it possible to use the old one in 2.2? Specifically WolfBreak's ROM. If Yes then how could I install it? Is there a .zip?
Thanks.
I'm not sure whether it will run or not, maybe any user can upload it.
In the start, i too missed the 2.1 keyboard. However, I'd not recommend that keyboard since it is slow when you become a fast typist and there's not much functionality in it. try Smart Keyboard Pro. You have easy access to symbols (long-press), a fast input support, smiley via long-press Return etc, along with themes and other stuff.
Stock 2.1 keyboard will not appeal to you anymore once you get used to it. Do try

Thanks for the Reply. i tried Smart Keyboard seems to be great and all, but I really want the Old 2.1 Keyboard. Just for kicks.. =))
Which keyboard? The one before or after the dualtouch update? There was a recent update and they upgraded the keyboard from the ugly grey one to a slightly better looking white keyboard. Is that the one your talking about?
Or is it the android 1.6 one?
Keep in mind that there are way better keyboards out there and there is no need to be using this crap. I am currently using slideIT and you get to swype like those samsung guys get to. Its very functional and fun.

I too miss the 2.1 keyboard. I kinda really really like it. I've tried so many other kb but still miss the SE stock one...
