Home button - Is there a way to assign a default screen/panel number? - Vibrant General

When home button is tapped it brings you to the last panel/screen you have until you have more then 4 of them, after that it will bring you to the 4th one if you tap home screen when already in the home screen. I think there should be a way to assign any screen as a default one but I couldn't find how.

Launcher Pro can do it. Of course if you like using the Touch Wiz interface it wouldn't work.
Preferences > Home Screen Settings > Default Screen

I like TW, so no way to do it in TW... that's a shame

Found this after looking through the tips thread. I like touchwiz too, too bad this can't be changed.

seriosuly this sucks, i want 3 screens, and the middle one (#2) to be the home but it always brings me to #3. annoying.

Multi-tasking interface improvement

I was just reading about webOS and how good its interface is when dealing with multi-tasking and I realised how poor androids multi-tasking interface is. The only way I know to switch between running apps is to hold home button for a few seconds...
I personally think this can be improved by having thumbnails of open apps popup when the home button is single pressed on a home screen. Just as at the moment previews of all the home screens popup I think this should be switched with open app previews. I rarely ever use the home screen preview thing so i think its wasted, but I definitely would use app selector if little thumbnails showed.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? Im not a developer so I have no idea if this is possible but I think it would be a good feature to add and improve android. Do any devs think they can implement this??
Moved to general as not ROM development.
This would be a feature for a launcher app, so might be worth suggesting to someone like Fede who develops Launcher Pro, or cyanogenmod people that make ADW?
yes you are right. thanks. I was too lazy to find the relevant section to post under. will try contacting anderweb. or fede.
There are a couple of apps which overlays a screen on top of the current app you are in by tapping home twice, you can then open apps/access widgets without having to go back to homescreen first.
Currently im using 'smart taskbar', you can set the activation mode to be (1) tapping on a half-circle spot on either side of your screen or (2) swiping from one side to another. You can then open from a list of 5 'pinned' apps or choose from the mini apps drawer below, or click a tab called 'running' which seems the same as the current holding on home button behavior.
check out power strip. allows you to get a popup window where ever you are by doubble tapping home button (ore long press search button). there you can have quick access to widgets, shortcuts etc. really cool.

galaxy s2 home button changed ?

Since 2 days now i have a big issue with my home button. usually when i was pressing it. it was going to my home screen. Now, i get a new page that only show me the clock, meteo and a few apps that are useless on the bottom of the screen. I never asked my phone to change it and i can't find the settings to revert it back to normal. Anyone knows how to fix it ? i dont want to re-install the hole thing.
Thanks !
What launcher do you use? Stock firmware? Rom?
Must be another Launcher installed...
TWLauncher will bring you to Homescreen 1
screenshot would help? are you on a custom rom or launcher?
Just to debunk the obvious: With TW launcher your home screen is the first one, the one to the far left. However, when you exit an app with the Home button, it simply takes you to the last screen you were on. So if you set i.e. the middle screen as your "home" and kept using it thinking it was your actual home screen, you may have thought that the Home button was taking you back to your "home screen," and now you may have noticed that pressing the Home button while you're not in an app takes you to the one to the far left instead.
I don't think you're an idiot, but just for the record.
I just had the same thing happne to me as well. It was alsco discussed in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116748&highlight=home
After turning the phone off and on its back to normal. No idea how it happned

[Q] Remove blank screens ADW Launcer?

I had my screens down to three so I know you can remove some on ADW but I can't remember how I did it. Somehow I ended up with five again and now the homescreen button takes me to another screen and not the homescreen. Anyone know how to fix that? Looked in ADW and can't see anyway to fix it there.

if you go to the launcher settings you can change the number of home screens. The home button is automatically allocated to the middle screen so if you have five, screen number 3 is the home. if you have 3 screens, number 2 is home
settings/edit you will see '+' buttons this will add more screens and a pin button to pin your desired home screen and an 'X' button to remove a home screen.
press the windows button while on the home screen (adw launcher) and click edit. it's tricky to use and remember.
^Worked like a champ. Thanks for the replies!

Apex Launcher and Recent Apps access quicker.

So if you use Apex and possibly other launchers you can set the home key action to recent apps when at the home screen. Don't know how useful it is for everyone but I find it more useful than having to hold on to it at the home screen. Just found it interesting.

Agreed. Wish Go launcher would do this.
On Nova, a long-press of the Home button does this and it must be default since I don't recall setting it up that way. I love it.

Actually, default settings in apex appear to be show previews with a short press of home and show recent with a long press.. been using the long press for a while now.. and the previews is kinda neat as well..
you can also set gestures for the apex actions button too. I have the app drawer on the bottom of the screen but if I swipe up from it, it changes to the default screen..
there are lots of neat tweaks I am slowly finding.. Very impressed with this over my old iphone4...
So much good information on this forum.. keep the info flowing!

Yeah, system default is that long-press of home button brings up recent apps. In Nova settings you can make it so Home button brings you to default screen when you're on any other screen, or opens up the recent apps if you press home while on the default screen.
In Gestures and Buttons in settings, set Home Button action to Recent Apps, then check the Only on Default Screen setting.

Nexus 4 - Home button goes to most recent home screen

I'm running the latest Cyanogenmod lightly on my Nexus 4. Is there a way to customize my home button to always return to screen 1 instead of the most recently used screen? I know that touching it twice does it, but I was looking to make it 1 by default and use the back arrow to get to the most recent. I'm usign the default launcher Trebuchet. (I also can't find where to customize my home screen items.)
My research shows that this was the opposite way in earlier Android 4.x versions but somewhere along the line it switched. Is there a setting that I can change or an app that I can use?
