Droid 2 versus Droid Incredible - Droid Incredible General

Well, the D2 came out today, and I'm still within my 30 days return window... I'm wondering what people think about swapping the Dinc out for the new D2? I like the Incredible because of its screen, but the bump-charge battery and lack of QWERTY slider is a bit suckage. What would you do?

The d2 has a 720 mhz processor...thats a downgrade.

That shows it as a TI OMAP 1ghz.

Camera > downgrade
Processor > extremely slight upgrade
Keyboard > Hate the physical keyboard causing the device to be larger
Root / Roms > nobody knows if this will be possible to unlock (like the droid x) and you also have to wait for root now, if it's even possible

It's also worth noting that the Droid 2 has a much better GPU then the Incredible. If flashing ROMs is important to you I'd think long and hard before switching. If not I'd say go for it.

Yeah, it really comes down to what you like more. Also I don't know if you've had experience with Motoblur before, but since the Droid 2 is not an HTC phone, you will be getting Motoblur instead of Sense as the UI. I have a good feeling it will be rooted in time, as I'm sure it's going to be a popular product so lots of devs will be playing with it.
The Droid 2 GPU smokes the DInc, however there really aren't a lot of applications that can take advantage of that right now and I can't tell you if that is going to change in the future or not. Also do you care about having a hardware keyboard vs a soft kb? If you plan on texting, e-mailing, inputting a lot of data then that should seal the deal.
If you are looking for an answer like "Which phone is better?", then I can't give you that since it's mostly based on personal preference. Yes the Droid 2 has come out later so it is more advanced (except for the fact that I haven't heard a lot of positive feedback about Motoblur) and even though the camera might have a fewer MP count, based on the data I've read you will still be able to achieve the same if not better quality pictures than with the DInc (which requires a lot of manual option settings to get an optimal picture in most cases), plus it comes with some cool video features =).
I would skim over the differences between the two and not focus so much on statistics and more of how you would use the phone on a daily basis, then decide based on that which phone allows you to do such things the easiest.

the Dinc is the best and last of the fully NAND unlocked 1 ghz androids (for VZ anyway). It would take a serious hardware upgrade like a 1.5 ghz process with Wi-Di or HDMI output without discrimination against DRM protected material to get me to make a switch. But that's largely because I value having a fully unlocked OS over most anything else. I also had the option to get the Droid X and didn't get it if that tells you anything.

Incredible all the way; Motorola doesn't know how to make quality phones. http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/13/droid-2-review/

Already have a Nexus One

I bought my N1 with no contract, so on T-mobile i can get a Vibrant for like 160 if i renew for 2 more years. I already have my N1, is there a compelling reason to go for the Vibrant? Besides the nice screen does it do anything better than the N1 already can?
Better Camera for pictures
720p HD video recording and playback (not sure if N1 can do 720p play back)
Pocket $200+ when you sell your N1
I just sold my Nexus One this morning. I'm having a lot more fun with the Vibrant!
There are some people on this forum that went from the N1 to Vibrant; I don't know if I would. The Vibrant is really nice, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. If I were in your shoes I'd wait and see what comes out later this year. Gingerbread will be out by the end of the year, and there are supposed to be some killer devices coming out to go with it.
However I did come from an N900 so it's not like I was really doing that bad, either...
If I had a N1 I would wait for the next gen phones before upgrading (end of year, early 2011). Unless you have to have the latest and greatest, then buy the Vibrant and get the next gen when it comes out as well.
Here's a new vid that just came out,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFPtV8I2BRQ&feature=player_embedded#!
I sold my n1 for this. I think its a good upgrade... there's a few things I miss but the fact that its harder to replace since I can get it replaced in stores and Google's done making em..
Also I needed a true MT screen and the gpu. Other than that I thing there pretty even. Oh and this gorgeous screen....
Non-rooted Nexus One can't do 720p.. but if you root it and apply the hack (or ROM includes it) then it can do 720p recording on the Nexus.
The Vibrant cannot do 720p playback, the resolution of the phone can only do 480p at the most. It can play 720, but it will have no benifit vs a 480 version of the same clip. The nexus can play the same resolution clips that the vibrant can, but the vibrant has more video codecs to play.
I wouldn't have gone from N1 to Vibrant. There is not enough of a difference
I have the N1 and won't be changing. I bought a Vibrant for dev at work and thought I might switch personally but you currently give up as much as you gain. The positives are listed above, but you lose:
-froyo (for now)
-trackball (nice sometimes)
-camera flash
-future 'first' Android updates
Plus, the annoying home button lag is real. Sounds like the only way to currently fix is is rooting and moving over all the apps to NAND, which negates the app storage advantage (which was initially my biggest want).

benchmark questions

Ok, Ive got a Droid X and I love it hands down.
I honestly have no real complaints about it. But the Fascinate came out and although it has a slightly smaller screen and less mega pixel camera and no HDMI.
But the Fascinate display blows the DX out of the water. I know it is a Super AMOLED and thats cool.
But I ran Linpack on both my DX and the Fascinate and they both got around 1160-ish
I ran Quadrant Advanced and got around 1150 up to 1220's
But with Quadrant, the Fascinate only got around 900
So i guess my question is how many of you would let this deter you from changing out to the Fascinate and keeping the DX?

I had the X when it first came out got it rooted and tweaked out as of current. Then I exchanged at verizon for the Fascinate. Don't get me wrong the x is still a good phone but the fascinate is better.
* camera on the fascinate is better (not talking about megapixels im talking about real world use.)
*video is shot at 30fps
*screen is better, fascinate is only .3 of an inch smaller hardly noticeable.
* no encrypted bootloader
* no moto blur
* better GPU for graphics
* higher rated processor then any processor on the market.
* long battery life, my personal use I was able to get 13 hours med/heavy use .
* lighter
>>> my x distorted alot of my apps it had to stretch out the picture to fit the long and skinny screen. Very pixelated.
>>> pretty much the X has three mics and dual antennas. The rest the fascinate kills it.
>>> right now I believe the fascinate will get more support then the X because of its specs, and lack of limitations. You will soon see a full cyanogen port for the fascinate, can't say the same for the X.
-Via Fascinate Courtesy Of Tapatalk
Yeah, the encrypted BL was something that always bothered me with Motorola and the DX. I lime being able to make my own ROMs as i did with WiMo and sad to say, Motorola didn't make it as easy. Thanks for the comparisons. It really helps.

Note on the benchmarks you posted that the Fascinate has a higher cpu and gpu score out of the box. The I/O can be attended to via lag fix, or hopefully by an upcoming update. If not, I have faith it will be corrected via various roms on a go forward.
Once 2.2 hits both, the difference is going to be very, very noticeable.
The hummingbird is an amazing SoC. It blows away Ti's current offerings and even the next gen qualcomms are playing catchup. The SGX 540 will be king of the hill for a good few months to come, so I'm a happy phone whore right now

[Q] So, this is basically a Defy?

I was wondering if this is basically a Defy but for AT&T and without all the extra ruggedness. The two phones look a lot alike.

The main differences:
The bravo has (Compared to Defy):
3.15 MP camera (Instead of 5MP)
109.5 x 63 x 13.3 mm (Instead of 107 x 59 x 13.4 mm)
No active noise cancelation (Instead of crystaltalk)
And some other points like the gorilla glass, IP 67 standard, image stabilization (?) are missing.
Some videos on youtube looked laggy...might be because of the live wallpaper they used (same CPU as the Defy)
i don't know about the price, but the Defy is the way to go if i had to choose.
Played with them both yesterday, and ended up going home with a Bravo. The Defy always seemed laggy, whereas the Bravo only got laggy with certain live wallpapers turned on. Thought they would be exactly the same performance wise, but it didn't end up that way. I'd like gorrila glass and all that ruggedness, but at the end of the day i'd prefer a snappy phone. Now i just gotta wait for the people on here to start doing their thing so i can get rid of all these useless AT&T branded apps.
FYI, I actually managed to get rid of all AT&T branded apps, including AT&T address book using Titanium Backup.
Removing AT&T apps
I'm an employee of at&T and I found a way to remove them the same way with Ti Backup after a root on my Bravo (shhhhh)...pretty simple with one touch after Ti is on your phone. Have to say, after reading all these posts and such I do feel like AT&T could do a better job of lightening the restrictions on the android platform. It's because we have a large handful of "buy this anyway" customers that don't have the full interest of customizing android the way it's supposed to be. I talk to customers on a daily basis about the benefits while they stare at me like I'm Yoda. I'm already submitting service forms in the hopes that AT&T will listen when I say lift the restrictions...that is all. BTW, someone get some ROMs for this thing.
Does getting rid of the AT&T apps improve your phones performance?
Also, I just got this little Bravo and I love it! I already have a Captivate and an Aria and this guy beats them both. Best performance, best battery, great screen, and perfect size for me.

I had a Bravo for about a month and I got tired of waiting.
Unfortunately, I found most member on Motorola's own Bravo support forum are very ..."defensive". They tried to make sense out of their choice, rather than, speak up for the truth.
I'd admit I am a die-hard Moto fan, but I am not about stick to something that is not going to happen...... ( I doubt Bravo is getting 2.2, same broken promised of my Cliq XT )
Word of advice.... sell your Bravo, ebay or craigslist, and get yourself a Defy.
I am so glad that I did! It is like upgrading your PC from Vista to W7 with SSD.
They both have gorilla glass.
Yes they both have gorilla glass and they are essentially the same phone, my wife has the bravo, I HAD the Defy, just upgraded to the Atrix. The only fundamental difference is the added water/dust proofing on the Defy. Both the amount of on-board data storage, I believe the Defy has "2Gb" and the Bravo has "2Gb" of storage, as well as processors, are identical - both have 800Mhz processors, they run at almost identical speeds.
Defy has flash for camera and an additional button function on face plate.
Also most posts I have seen seems that Defy is a non US issue phone. There are sbf files and even roms for the Defy so it "maybe" possible to use the Defy roms on the Bravo.
Posting for some info into this possibility on the Defy forum has not revealed tuned out any response.

The ATRIX is a good phone? compared to Optimus 3D, Sensation, and Galaxy SII?

I have an Optimus 3D, and an HTC Sensation and i can say are super powerfull devices.
I have the change to get an Motorola Atrix ( no 4G the normal ) But i dont know if is a good phone, i have got a Motorola Defy Few months ago, and well is cheap..
Just i have interest in the raw powers of 3D, and the camera, and the screen of course.
Thanks by the way and excuse my bad english.
First of all I don't understand why you would want a new phone when you have either of those. The differences simply aren't that big to make a difference in real world performance. Unless you are looking for some very specific feature that I missed.
However the atrix in my opinion is all-around a very good phone. Nowhere in the same league as the defy that you mentioned.
For the features you mentioned:
Camera is a bit lacking compared to your devices but is nice.
Screen is pretty accurate on colors. Specifically whites but is a bit less easy on the eyes then what people are accustomed to. Also is efficient on battery.
Atrix also has a very big battery if you find a good build
Being that you have those phones I would personally wait atleast a year before getting a new one if you want to feel any difference.

Haha, that two phones, only 1 is mine, the another one is from my father..
But well, mi brother needs a new phone and i want to see that atrix.
But however, this phone doesnt seems popular, and i want to know, why.
For mee seems a good phone, 1Gig of ram Tegra, QHD display, HDMI Out.. but the people doesnt seems interested on this phone, and i dont know why.
Maybe im missing something.
I don't think that there is any problem with this device, as you said, its hardware is superb!
However, the reason, I believe, that you cant see it in masses is the fact that at first its bootloader was locked and didnt alowed flashing whatever you want on it.
another thing is that altough Moto first priced it relatively low, the operators didnt followed and generally priced it somewhat high, especially if the lapdock was evolved...
anyhow, I think that it is slightly better then the sensation, and can cope with almost everything you throw at it.
If that's the case then well there's nothing bad about this phone (unless you don't like the screen. People seem to have mixed opinions about it).
I don't think you'll be dissapointed with it.
As for its relatively low fanbase... well you can just say it started out on the wrong foot. Nothing wrong with it now.

Ill be connected with the atrix for awhile. Even after I get an ics sandwich phone the atrix doubles up as versatile entertainment/internet device with the lapdock.
Iphone > galaxy s 2.
Choose between SGS II, SE Arc and Atrix. Chose Atrix and not regret it, but upgrading to 2.3.4
The true Atrix beauty lies on it's accesory set and Webtop environment.
I loved the Atrix without those accessories, but once I got the Lapdock and started playing with the TRUE HDMI capabilities, I was blown away!
I honestly think that no one can express their opinion about the Atrix without first trying the Lapdock with a modded Webtop.
I'm no Linux guru by any means, and I can tell you that it's really easy to hack the Webtop to do almost everything you do with a regular Netbook.

Misunderstanding

there is so much webtop 3.0 hate when you go looking for info.. either by linux gurus (which immediately earns you my respect, don't get me wrong) or folks who just desperately want to multi task by re-sizing windows =p
perhaps you all aren't aware of what you're actually getting. check it out

this is how we work with documents (app launch time: instant)
this is how we browse the web (app launch time: instant)
this is how we end our day (app launch time: instant)
these are just examples of what we get in tablet mode with various market apps. they will look bigger and better at lapdock HD resolutions. so, think about it please.. then beg your local dev for webtop 3.0 support when ics drivers get here. (i'm assuming a port of webtop 3 roms would be a possibility with ics drivers but i'm not sure on that and that there is a small chance (speculation) we won't get webtop 3 with an official ics due to negative feedback or that we won't get official anything.)

huh? if you're referring to my 'supposed' launch times those are just estimates or rather more accurately comparisons. generally speaking, when you touch a launcher on an android system rocking 1ghz + 1gb ram it may as well be instant. if you can't measure the time without slow motion.. now lets look at webtop 2.0
click the firefox icon and start counting. this isn't science. this is pointing out the obvious that was obviously overlooked? xD
A.aaron you just hit the nail on the head of why I ditched that oddly wonderful webtop. I couldn't put a finger on it but you did; waiting several seconds to launch good old lightweight firefox on a dual core 1gb ddr2 ram linux machine, and it takes forever! This wasn't even something I realized when I used it so much, as it was easily overloaded. I liked it, but I couldn't quite figure out why I repeatedly wanted vanilla android. It was the obviously overlooked, the stupidly slow speed of webtop for the quite capable hardware. A complete disappointment, further hampered by carrier stupidity. Anyhow, I still think the AP20H is powerful:
Ever played C.H.A.O.S? runs butter smooth stock kernel maximum settings, and much smoother than a CM9 touchpad overclocked to dual core snapdragon s3 at 1.7 ghz. This thing can handle a lot, if the software didn't suck. Webtop 3.0 looks like the anti-suck, being android itself presented much more reasonably
i believe that's specifically why they scripted in autostart. i'm not sure why they wasted like 60px for the dock because essentially its ffos. if they'd advertised it as that it would at least appear to be what it actually is. but i mean, have you tried to scroll facebook in that thing? lol
webtop 3 is a step in the right direction. as a student i can use the office apps native to the platform to do my work assuming i have a decent size screen and reliable input. i've got that, i just need the os =D
and i'll prove it, assuming we get the update this quarter.
The Netflix app sucks major ass. Probably should have used a better example.
Also, showing screenshots from two completely different devices gets kinda confusing.
