Sprint officially announces Epic 4G: August 31st, $249.99! - Epic 4G General

I confirm. I just got their email. Where the hell is the off-contract price?

The way I read it, you add back in the contract discounts to get the off-contract total: $250 + $150 + $100 = $500.

Yeah, the reservation site confirmed the $500. I was just confused because the email for the EVO listed the MSRP and all of the discounts and not just a $350 "2-year price."

sprint makes me laugh, seriously, they have to have the cheapest prices in order to get customers that can't afford anything else because they are so boneheaded that they drive every other customer away. 250 dollars for this phone? on a 2 year contract? Seriously? I feel like its April Fools or something, the Evo was 200 and this thing should be too. Oh wait, how much is the droid 2? Yea, not 250 dollars.

Here's the image from my email this morning. I plan on getting one for my wife since she likes a keyboard coming from a blackberry. I'll be sticking with my Evo

Taken from another message board.....perspective...
Everyone who is upset with the price needs to think of the financials for Sprint/Samsung. They're including extra hardware features (QWERTY, front-facing cam, rear flash) that the Vibrant & Captivate don't have, all the while serviced on cheaper plans. You can't hit the margins on both sides of the equation (higher spec'd phone & cheaper plans) and expect the phone to be the same price as their competitors.
As soon as I saw that Sprint's Galaxy S would be a QWERTY slider, I knew there would be a price differential relative to the other 3 carriers' Galaxy S models. When it retained the front-facing cam and added a rear flash, it was obvious.

yea, problem is, sprint needs to think about the fact that 2 of these things is 700 dollars before you get the rebates. lot of money for a family to spend.

My theory on the price is that they've looked at how many smart phones are in short supply right now and decided they can launch this at a bit more money and reduce their subsidies cost, while still selling reasonable volumes.
I called a Best Buy yesterday, and their phone VRU even had a message saying that if you are calling for iPhone 4's, EVO 4Gs, Droid X, or Droid Incredibles, that they are out of stock.
So demand of high end smart phones is high enough that they've looked at the supply and demand curve and decided that they can at least initially have this phone for a bit more than the market point for the rest of these phones is currently. I suspect 3 months from now, it will have dropped down to $199.
Over a two year contract that's going to cost you $2150 including the phone (regular price: ($79*24 mo) + $250), as a percentage, the extra $50 is pretty nominal. (2.3% of the contract).

I've applied your logic to the $50 Captivate (from amazon).
Sprint + Epic
$80/mo * 24 = $1920 + $250 = $2170 over a 2 year contract.
AT&T + Captivate:
$40/mo (minimum minutes) + $25/mo (2GB data vs Sprint's unlimited) + $20 (unlimited texts to match Sprint's) = $85/mo.
$85*24 = $2040 + $50 (phone) = $2090. $80 less than the Epic over a 2 year contract.

capatitive wasnt original $50.00. maybe when the epic is out, there have it cheaper with amazon or something, who knows.

Working great now.
My 8525's touchscreen was not responding- had to throw my SIM in a Pink RAZR for a week! I was finally going to investigate if I could send it somewhere for service when I saw the refurbs available for $99. What a find- $99 plus $18 upgrade fee is totally worth the headache avoided of having to try getting it fixed. It arrived yesterday; I threw WM6 on and it's like brand new.
i got mine last friday for $0 through the premier site i had to add a data plan to get down to $0 but i can cancel it anytime.
Thats how i got my phone too, thru the premier site. Now a few people at work are getting new phones, after they saw mine
Wish I live south. LOL

I had to buy mine privately. (in fact all my phones are bought outside of the provider because my provider dont provide good phones...just junks.)

And maybe some indie Sprint dealers will do the rebate for you. I bought my Hero from an independent dealer and the owner paid the rebate for me, so I only had to front the 200 bucks.

For what he paid he definitely overpaid. Retail is $450, so he paid $225 to get it less than two weeks early. He could have gotten the hotspot for more than 7 months for the same amount, or put that towards two years of the extra $10/mo. Either way, he better be totally happy with his purchase.
I get mine this Friday. I see you have that Google I/O informational form in your pic. Is that included in the phone's packaging?
The reason i ask is because I asked my seller about that form and he said that he didn't have it. he said that it might be packaged with the phone itself. He never opened the phone's packaging. So I told him that I'd just find out when i receive it.

Well it depends on where he would have gotten the phone from. Sprint $450..you can say he probably overpaid, $500 RS....you can say he overpaid, BB...I don't think he overpaid. i think its a great deal if you think about it.
Free everything for a month, no contract....etc.
And plus I'm sure there will be big shortage of these phones when they release. I stopped at the bestbuy by my house earlier today and the Rep there told me that this is the biggest preorder they ever had. I'm not sure if he was just talking about this particular store or Bestbuy in general. Just like the Incredible and the iPad this will be backordered. And if you think paying $670 is too much ....wait until June 4th
I think if you really want the phone, you saved up for the phone or whatever if you got the money then go ahead and get it. Because getting one on the 4th is not guaranteed.
Not to reign on some peoples parades of cost, but depending on the store, they may not sell you a phone off contract. I Lou of holding out for new customers and upgrades. Happened to me when I wanted a pre had to hold out a month for when online orders came around

[Q] Radio Shack-Cheaper than Tmobile?

So Ive heard that the G2 will be available at some point in Radio Shack stores. Has anyone upgraded a phone through Radio Shack? If the price is really 150 with an upgrade (not a brand new contract) I can wait. If this only applies to a new contract I'm preordering with out delay.
I'm dying to get this phone someone help a brotha out!

I've never bought a phone through Radio Shack but yeah it'll be $149.
Thanks for the link. Stll wondering if that applies to a 2 year upgrade or brand new contract. I enjoyed the G1 and actually got it for $150 through T-Mobile. Im not trying to spend 200 bucks on this phone but I will if I have to. Sorry for the question everyone, I just feel so dumb when the device is 50 bucks cheaper somewhere else or cause you get it at a later time.
My buddy works at RadioShack and apparently his store isn't doing preorders, so call around first to see which stores are accepting preorders. Proceed to ask them if current T-Mo subscribers are eligible.
Happy hunting!

If Radioshack is offering the phone at a lower price it will most definitely be for new customers and usually existing customers that are past 22 months since their last discounted upgrade.

i talked to some friends that work for radioshack and it will be 150 for an upgrade but they didnt say how long you had to have been on your contract to get the upgrade. i guess the best way is to wait til launch day and try to get one and see if your eligible for the pricing
^Thats good to hear, I'll be checking them out.
Wish tmob corp stores would sell at same price tho.
So looks like its 199 for upgrade price at the shack but they'll sell it on 10/3
Im getting it from the shack for 150 also, i have the N1 on the everything+ plan, and i don't feel like shelling out another 500 bucks, so ill be hopping onto a contract and ditching my new epic! #****sprintandthatstupid$10fee
If you are upgrading get it through T-mobile, thats what I did.
Just call 611 and say "retention" when it asks what you're calling about.
I told the retention rep that radioshack was offering it for $150 without rebate but they
weren't offering pre-orders and asked if I could pre-order for that price.
It is gonna cost me $180 after tax but I was told by my local T-mo store that I
should still be able to get the Mail in rebate which would bring my total cost down to $130
Really you got the best deal so far if you do get the rebate.
I saw some people call loyalty to get it for 150 plus tx, free ship, waived upgrade fee.
But I havent see anyone get the rebate on top of that to be at 130.
You should call for me haha, I'll give it a try to see what happens.

Loyalty gave me $99+tax with no upg fee. All in the form of a $180 credit on my account. I elected for $5.99 shipping which somehow mysteriously got upgraded to 3 day select. Now i'm wondering if I could also try processing the $50 rebate, but that's probably pushing it.

I was gonna buy it in the store on the sixth but after reading what you guys paid now I'm thinking I may pre-order it Friday.
Question: When I call should I ask for "loyalty" or "retention" in order to get a better deal. I've been with T-Mobile for more than seven years and have never even been late with a payment. I've been out of contract for the last three years but really don't want to pay full price for this phone. Advice is welcome.

I think either will do, if you have been with them for 7 years they will give you a good deal no matter what. I think what helped me was saying "I really want to get a EVO 4G but if I can get a good deal on the G2 I would like to stay with T-mobile"
Ok I called and got it for 149+tax=164, no ship or upgrade fee, I'm happy with that.
No go on 99 tho, I tried but I did use ogbrogs 'sprint evo' line to get my deal.
Thx for the heads up people!
how do tmobile stores not have a display unit
come on tmobile marketing. people are getting the phone and radioshack is getting it the 3rd

Glad my tip helped, you might still be able to get the $50 Mail in rebate By going to
www.tmobilerebates.com , it's worth a try.

How much should I pay for a SG2 in November?

My friend plans on buying one now, and then buying a nexus prime when it comes out. I kind of agreed to buy the SG2 off him in late November to early December(assuming the prime is out) but he wants to set a price now. How much should I offer to be fair to both of us?
He is buying it from bell for $600 + tax = $678
Whatever the market rate is in November and who can tell what that will be .
Set a price now considering it is second user in November .
50% of initial selling price is what i would agree to .

In November? I think it depends on what devices will be available at that time, still I think it should be around US$ 500.

The O2X which is out of date and not really a great phone is still selling for $490. A new 8GB SGS1 is still selling for $440. I think $500 for a SGS2 this year is bit optimistic.
er... I see unlocked SG1 on ebay for under $300

I was quoting new retail from authorized dealers.
That doesn't matter though. Used phone is great discounted, especially when there's a new phone coming out.

People are already selling it for $580 on the marketplace here. That is the lowest I have seen. That is also people from the UK, who probably paid more for the phone. I think $500 is reasonable in November, maybe even $450 for a used one.
I wouldn't agree on a price until November though.
If I were to guess, 550-600 would be best price. 500 if condition is not 9/10
Do not set the price right now!!!

I am guessing this is a verbal agreement, in any case, I wouldn't set the price four months before I purchase the phone.
Now since he is your friend and you want things to remain cool, your safe bet would be to tell him that you will pay whatever the price is on ebay at the time.
You have the upper hand here since you are the one who is going to be paying in the end. Why buy it from your friend when you can buy it from someone else on ebay for a cheaper price?

Bad move. Too many things can go wrong and potentially hurt the friendship. If you do agree to buy it, don't set a price. Make it a function of some well known price maker - like Amazon, NewEgg, or maybe eBay. And set a date. For example, agree to pay 80% of the listed NewEgg price on November 15th. That way no one feels like they've been suckered.
Sound pretty silly to set a price at this point. Nobody knows what will happen to the market. Say you set a price now for $500. Maybe in november the used phones go for $400 and you got screwed, or they have not gone down that much and they go for $600 and your friend gets screwed. Nobody wins unless the price you set somehow is the actual going market price in november.
You should definitely wait to price it.

I wouldn't pay more than $300-350 for a used SGS2 in november (with so many months of use).
Also, remember that craigslist.org is always an option if you're in the area.
