Best thing that ever happened to the hero - Hero, G2 Touch General

Was gonna put it in the applications section but it's far too important i think: SWYPE
Says it all..the only thing I considered annoying in the handset was the keyboard and now it's perfect! Try it if you still haven't and it shall change your life

So because you can type faster it... oh never mind

I used to be a Swype user, until I found Swiftkey.
Swiftkey definitely works much much faster than Swype for me because of its predictive text, which is actually smart and usable.

thanks for the tip, will try that out definitely!

Don't forget to add it to the exception list of your task killer, if you use one.
Because this keyboard takes a little bit longer than the HTC one to start up.
EDIT: Oh and a new version is out today btw!

i've been using slideIT which is so good i haven't bothered with swype yet, but now i'm tempted to try swiftkey.

I love Swype, but the SYM layout is just terrible.
Why can't they stick to the standard QWERTY layout? This is what I'm talking about, btw:

It also needs an option to remove the "Hint" key completely. It's wasting valuable space.

come on peeps...a little bit of humor doesn't hurt anybody
for those wanting to try Swype;
check my post on this forum for a link!
hoi,
odin

Good thing i grabbed a copy of it before the mods took down your link. been wanting to try it. Its cool and all but i find that correcting my mistakes and adding new words is a pain and takes away my speed. I type way faster on the default keyboard with auto correct on. No match. It also takes up too much space on the screen and is a ~20mb app (doesnt matter for me since i have apps2sd). Thanks for sharing though odin13.

I would love to try Swype and compare it to SlideIT and Swiftkey but I can't find a swedish version of it. Swiftkey does the job pretty well but everyone keep saying how good Swype is and I'd like to try.
But the last update of SlideIT was pretty good add well, predicts words great now, the only thing I'm missing is a fast way to reach special characters.

Swiftkey kept crashing my browser. I had to uninstall it and went back to Swype. Then I remembered why I like Swype so much.

swype is now in public beta, and according to their instructions you have to uninstall any previous iterations of it before you can install it again, so I would say try that.

Yeah, i told you.. Spread the word.. Not to many people have this.. They NEED this.. Since it's private..
Wow, love the way it guesses what you probably want.
Personally, I still like swype. I find I'm constantly pausing and scanning to see if it has guessed the word I want yet. With swype, I am more able to focus on what I wish to write than if it has guessed the word yet.
But I've not played with this very long and might chane my mind. At the moment, it disrupts the rythem for me. I can't think about what I want to input and on if it has poped up with a valid selection yet at the same time (limitation of my brain).
Both impressive bits of software.
I think swype could benefit from the predictive logic of swift when trying to select the best word choice. It's already very good, but by checking the sentece context it could better prioratise the choice selection. Particularly for sloppy input of very short words.

Sadly I have to agree.
Pausing often to see if it has the word you want makes typing very slow.
Technically speaking, SwiftKey is impressive.
But practically... who will really prefer this?...

I have one from the market that is way more customizable and highly recommmend it. Just search "gingerbread"

What keyboard is for YOU?

What keyboard do you like best? The one that looks the best? The one you can type fastest from with ease?
I just tried the themed android keyboard from miui and damnnn am I typing fast.
If I was to be using I hand though Swype "hands down"

Do other OS keyboards count. If so, then I choose Windows Phone 7. Perfect response time and key sizes.
On Android, then yes, the miui keyboard is best for me.

I bet you do a lot of that one handed typing don't you.
UltraKeyboard is my keyboard of choice. Worth the couple bucks. Can fully theme it how you want it, including key size and spacing, has a ton, a ton, of features, and a swype like function that you can train and set pause parameters on. I highly recommend it.
Swiftkey is good too, if I could theme it I would probably use that all the time.
I'm using swiftkey, the only thing that I don't like that's it's bright, I would rather have a darker keyboard.
Smartkeyboard why? Because it's smart duhh
smart keyboard pro for me. ridiculous customization
+ custom smileys xD
Those are all my keyboards...

I'm no dev, and I don't like to be a negative nelly, but you're trying to take a piece from Sense UI and make it work in AOS/KP. Two very different beasts making it a tough challenge to pull off right. It would be nice, but it probably won't happen.
I know this isn't what you asked for, but since what you asked for is pretty unlikely to happen, I thought I'd offer this as an alternative.
I use Swiftkey-3 as my keyboard, and it is a fantastic keyboard aside from the fact that it has an option for showing arrows.
Here is a screenshot just so you know what it looks like.
It might get you what you want in a very easy way, easier than trying to flash a sense keyboard over an aosp rom.
Plus it has several themes which look nice. This one looks really good with ICS I think.

What version of Swiftkey ? I have v1.1.91 ... just got it from the Amazon store 1-2 days ago. I see no option for turning on arrows, nor does mine even look like that. That looks like a stock Android keyboard while mine is rather HTC-Sense-looking (larger buttons, light gray color, etc).

You have to go to options, and the theme section. Different themes will change the color. Also the arrow option is in the theme section.
Your version is old, it may not have all of that. I am using 3.0.4.343
I bought it back on the old version and I upgraded for free, but I bought it on the google market, not sure how amazon handles updates like that.
My version is 2 upgrades newer than yours I think. First there was your version, SwiftKey, then Swiftkey-X then Swiftkey-3.
Yeah, that's the problem. I actually got it for free from Amazon. Later, it appeared that maybe Swiftkey pulled the app 'cause you couldn't update it. Seems that the version after mine was Swiftkey-X and they weren't doing upgrades between "major" versions.

That stinks. But I think it's only a few bucks on the Google Market, so it might be worth it to you.

I don't think its a tough challenge at all as long as u make it a separate app not a flashable zip that modifies the default touch input keyboard which aosp roms don't have.
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844512. It works great. It just doesn't have arrows
Arrows are the must for me. Use them to go back and forth to edit the misspelled words in the messages I type.

AutoCorrect not working

I have selected a default language, predictive text on but the default keyboard will not autocorrect anything. It will make suggestions but when I hit space it doesnt change anything. I have to tap the word at the top if I want it to be replaced. Anyone else having this issue? I used swiftkey before on my S3 so I am not sure if this is how the default keyboard should react. I may just go back to swiftkey but I thought this keyboard was developed by them and would work the same way.
Yeah I have noticed this. Love the set up but going to have to use a different one cause of this. Works great when swyping with it though

Yea, I have noticed it does very well with swype. I thought this was going to be a legit swiftkey install but i dont see any options for replacing with space.
Is Swype pre-installed also?

No, it's some special OEM edition of Swiftkey Flow.

That sucks. I could have sworn I saw a screenshot where it said Swype as a input option. Glad I bought swype now that it's in the Play Store

I thought swiftkey flow was just the swype equivalent.
Mine has Swype as an input option. I saw it when I loaded up my Swiftkey.
I dont think auto correct was included for some weird reason...there is no setting to enable or disable auto correct or even to automatically input suggested words...which is annoying since I am not used to the keyboard and make TONS of spelling mistakes (hitting letters instead of space or pressing numbers instead of letters) so I find my self having to manually correct things...lame, really my only complaint on this phone...seriously samsung why the hell would you not put auto correct on a smartphone...its kind of a freaking standard...and I dont really like aftermarket keyboards

They seemed to have missed quite a bit with the phone =/. As sad as it is to say.. The S4 doesn't seem like a typical Samsung release compared to the Note 2 and S3. I'm pretty disappointed in the S4 yo be perfectly honest. Maybe if I had bought the international version things would have been different. I live in the US tho so I couldn't afford to send it overseas if there was something wrong with it.

Samsung was unable to put the option of auto-correcting after "space" because of the many patent lawsuits with Apple.

Due to the current litigation between Apple and Samsung and the fact that Apple has a patent on auto correct the United States Samsung Galaxy S4 does not have auto correct in the built in Samsung keyboard. However, I believe that Google released the stock android keyboard in the play store yesterday. This keyboard has AutoCorrect built in an gives you the vanilla keyboard experience across all android phones.
