I was writing replies back this morning from the xda app and after I would send one it would freeze, force close, then disable my on screen keyboard. It was a global matter as well because everything i went into that had a text field would not let me use the keyboard. The only way to correct it immediately was to turn the screen to landscape and then back again.
Just curious if anyone else has had this happen.
I have had the same issue. No idea how to resolve.
I wonder if it's swype specific. We should test with some other keyboards.

It isn't because i'm using the stock Android keyboard and this happened. I am going to switch to swype and see if I can replicate the issue.
I had this problem a week or so ago. I found a thread on here about the issue. Uninstall and reinstall tapatalk/xda-app.

I've tried numerous reinstall/uninstall attempts, no effect for me

I reboot my phone multiple times a day to swap batteries....
Every time I reboot the phone, I have to change inputs to get swype working again. I've tried unistalling swype and the installer, downloaded it again from my swype beta account and same things happens.
I'm running damage control also, anyone else have this problem or a fix?
I didn't even know you could get swype on the Evo. lol Time to use that search button......
Same issue here lately.not sure what change caused it. Seems to be related to android 2.2 Vs 2.1

Thank you, sir. I'm at work and my searches kept getting interrupted. I am now looking for reasons to text so I can Swype, and I've only had it for 20 minutes....lol. I like it............I like it A LOT.
I have been rebooting a lot lately and have swype selected as keyboard. I'm running cm6 and never had to do input to put back on...

i had this issue in 2.1 as well. though not nearly as often. its kind of a pain if you reboot a lot etc like i do flashing roms kernels themes etc etc etc) i have just learned to put it into my process now lol. factory reset wipe flash boot fix swype
switch to your other keyboard then switch back to swype, does the trick for my everytime
Not sure if anyone has said this but I know that with dc 3.5, there is an issue with swype after reboot. You can fix it by switching keyboard back to stock and then back to swype.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
yea i think most of us know that but the problem is if you reboot a lot it gets pretty annoying to keep haing to do this
well ig uess for those that didnt know a "work around" this helps.
I had DL09 and had this problem and it bothered me, so I switched down to DJ05 cause it had the same fixes and more compatiable with everything, and now I'm having the same problem. It just started happening like 2 days ago. Is there a fix for this?
Mine does it too. It didn't do it until I installed the original SMS app so the little puzzle piece would work.
I've been noticing the same thing but it only happens in the browser searching.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Mine does it in the messaging, market, and browser app
I have this problem too. I've also had many problems with my dictionary. I'll add words and they will be there for a bit then disappear. The most frustrating thing I deal with is words that I have accidentally typed in, delete, and than they will magically appear again a day or so later. The specific word that bothers me is "ti"
I have deleted the word numerous times, cleared data/cache numerous times and installed clean roms/kernels to no avail. I even tried a totally new keyboard and it seemed like there was a problem with that dictionary too. I'm at a loss and gave up.

Try going to manage Applications and then clearing the data fit Swype.

I have the same problem. The data wipe did not resolve the issue, but clearing the data for gmail seems to have fixed the sync issues that I was having so thanks for the tip. The only fix that I have seen work for the caps issue is to install a different keyboard. I like camalot's as they seem more responsive than stock.
Also, big thanks to all the devs and good people on this forum who have made this phone awesome. This is my first smartphone and I would have been lost without the kind folks here.
I flashed superclean, 1230 nonvoodoo, and put the latest swype beta in...works great!

Same issue: all caps starting a message in aosp messaging app.. It seems like a bug that is being reported in the swype beta forums..
Be nice to have it fixed.. Oh! - yeah.... beta
I have the same problem, on DL09 using Handcent, so it's not app-specific.
yeah I have this issue too and I'm using the latest beta. It is not app specific. Seems to occur randomly.

What Ive noticed is ths happens when the word picker pops up for the first word and I continue to swype without making a choice. Maybe that is the cause? Program would see the new word as the first when started, as the first isn't completely entered yet.

This is exactly the reason, or at least a way to reproduce 100% of the time. OEM DI01 did not have the problem, OEM DL09 does. Dont' know more than that.
I posted a bug on the Swype forum 2 weeks ago.
http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?2458-Bug-on-VZ-DL09-w-Swype-capitalizes-second-word-after-first-word-auto-pick
If this has been posted before please delete, but I believe I have solved my issue with the physical keyboard missing keys. I turned off all the software keyboards and swype it seems to have done the trick.
Problem is I have to change it everytime I switch batteries. Is there a way to do thi?

Yes, I've read that swype (enabled) is most likely the culprit.

Bingo, it can be annoying at times. When typing long emails and texts, be sure to go back and proofread what you just typed (good practice anyway). Turning off swype did seem to help a bit.

would make it a software issue then..not hardware =D good to know
I was able to type several paragraphs with all the soft keyboards except for Swype disabled, and I don't have the missing key issue anymore. I simply disabled the Samsung and Android keyboards. I use Swype way too much to disable it.

I use keyboard manager to help with this...
Install keyboard manager along with touchpal from market free (completely).
I have Swype enable and have it set as my portrait keyboard
Then when I switch to landscape keyboard manager services changes my kb to touchpal in a fraction of a second without any interaction.
What awesome about touch pal is that it offers some of the best spelling correction word prediction with our hardware keyboards. Takes a while to get used to but by far is the best solution for me as not only does it fix the random keydrops but it also spell checks and suggests words on the fly.
I was using the Windows Mobile Version for a long time before changing to android, but absolutely love Swype for portrait one handed.
In a previous post I made I pointed out that the lag I found to be software and not hardware... if you long press on many letters you will get a popup instead of repeat keys these seem to be the cause of the drops, after using touchpal, if you long press a letter it quickly repeats.

I believe they need to be removed using sdx stock app removal.
Touchpal (chinese origin) privileges:

Internet access to check for updates, record audio is for voice to text and contacts im not sure about but i think its for autocomplete to add to the dictionary. Check out Swype permissions same read contact data is there...
Trust me I have been using CooTek products for years they are a reputable company... Chinese or not.
PS you could try with another keyboard but I think the key is touchpal, all i can say is if the keyboard your using gets rid of the OS default popup that happens when you long press on a key it should work. I wish there was a dev that could just figure out how to disable this all together as it happens when there are no soft keyboards active,,, I am sure this is the cause to our missed keys try ee or oo in words 7/10 times it will miss if you are fast this is because its trying to determine the length of time the key was pressed to display the box of options.
I can't get keyboard manager to recognize touchpal as an option...any ideas?
NM, have to play with the actual system settings first
I installed the Swype keyboard and it was working fine for a few days, but now it will not "swype". It responds to pressing individual keys but dragging my finger across the keyboard no longer has any effect.
Has anyone else had this problem?

this happens, if you have it to apps2sd it can cause this and other issues, as well could be due to language package if install, as said try to unselect swype and re-select it, as well if you get the apk swype restore you can restore your original swype from your nandroid

This is a known problem with Swype, and happens every time you reboot the phone. Try un-checking Swype in Settings>Language and keyboard, then re-checking it. You will also need to re-select Swype as the input method by long press in (almost) any text input field, until the Input Method option comes up.

Might be only on the latest version of Swype, I don't remember it happening on older Swype builds (but not certain). On the latest Swype open beta version, it does this on several ROMs for me (stock, Virtuous, CM7), and another on XDA mentioned its a 'known issue'.
it is a known issue, it actually depends what swype you get when getting it from the installer there is 2 options full and eng/spanish, i had issues when i got full on my g2 and mytouch slide, when i did eng/spanish all was ok except it Fc one or twice fix permission fixed and working since then

I've had this problem several times. Try pressing any text field until the "input method" message pops up. Select "touch input", and the repeat the procedure now selecting "Swype". It always works for me.
I'm using rooted stock sense with visionary/gfree and Launcher Pro Plus.
Hope it helps.
just being funny..
But from what I understand.. Swiper no swiping?

Can someone please help me figure out why and how to get it back? The integrated "flow" or "swype" stock keyboard feature keeps dissapearing. The actual setting itself is gone. Ive factory/hard reset 3 times. It keeps happening after about 24 hours.
Do you use the Optical text reading app from Samsung? That's what made the option disappear for me.

Well, I was. Wouldn't have thought that. Thanks. I recently downloaded the stock firmware and did a fresh install. But I have not downloaded that optical reader app either. Still have flow/Swype as of now.
That's definitely it, the optical reader from the Galaxy apps store is what breaks the flow/swype stock keyboard feature.
