Wireless n - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi.
Is there any way to enable wireless n mode in android for wifi? It seems that wifi is really slow and my data connection is much faster.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

what is wireless n mode

i dont think this phone has n class hardware, atleast its tech specs doesnt say n on htc.com...

Sorry for these idiots above. Anyway, my wi-fi is working fine although it isn't going at n speeds. Yes, there is wireless n hardware, but it's just not being used in this build yet. (as far as I know)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

it does have wireless N, its just disabled by default, i believe android does use the wireless N but its rather buggy which is why its slow, reception is rather poor and download is slow unless your standing over your router

"what is wireless n mode" is not a good answer to someone's question. Look it up.

wait, are we on celebrity jeopardy??

I bet I have the last word
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

just to keep the thread informative. wireless N is the evolvement of wireless G. More range and bandwith within wireless networks that support the standard. The HD2 has N capabillities, but the wifi implementation in the VERY beta stages of Android in general, so whtever you're asking for. it's not that important yet

HTC HD2 keyboard
i have tested both the clean and sense version. my preference is the sense. both versions work great. i have been following Darkstone for a while now and his work is amazing!!!
the only, just one thing i wished was kept from the first build is the keyboard. i love the fact that there was a mic feature, it made texting so much easier, the voice recognition is great and really accurate. now the slot is filled with language transcript. you can already do that in settings.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the old keyboard!!!

The old keyboard is the default android keyboard, hold down your finger on a textbox and you'll get a popup prompting you to select input method, select the other keyboard from there

Do we have an update on wireless n for Android?
Is it possible down the road?
(Also would be nice to have 720p video recording )

wow guys... i just read this and forgot what the first post was about...

Which just proves you're not observant. Yes, there are a lot of sense builds because they add extra features plus can be disabled easily for basic stock experience but there are cyanogen and stock builds out there if you LOOK. Hell, I was just at one, which is why I remembered to come back here. Don't be upset because I chose to answer you in the same simple way you asked. It's not my fault you don't see what's in front of you. Now browse. Finding new fun builds that fit our specific needs is why we're here, is it not?
ya they pretty much dont care about vanilla froyo and those that do are either old or autobuild , or are restricted to certain outdated kernels ... also cuz of this reason most cm versions will have touch screen lag issues and all the goodies that come with that , so basically if ya want a decent vanilla froyo experience hd2 isnt for u

Thank you for a coherent answer. Thats what I was starting to see about froyo. I have been updating my HyperDroid on my own but seem to have met my technical limit and am considering switching. Everything is great with it, but I'm considering whether or not I want the new camera. Another round of decisions I guess.

The XDA application does not seem allow us to see response/reply titles. Only original post titles. So I never saw your first No answer. I apologize and thanks for your response. I was looking for an quick opinion from fellow users and I certainly was not asking anyone to go do research for me.
I don't know if you have noticed but over the last few months folks have really gotten a bit over the top with the sarcasm in response to questions, almost to the point where it is insulting in some cases. I have seen this more and more. My initial thought when reading your reply WITHOUT the title line was here was more sarcasm. So again, I apologize and thanks for your response.

There was definite sarcasm, so I can apologize for that. Not at the level of some of the other people here get to. People have been getting extremely venomous and I was just trying to do a quick chuckle thing. Anyway, you should expect to see a lot more stock android builds soon because I'm sure there will be a flood of gingerbread options over the next few days.

Internet Pass through with Gingerbread, is it possible?

hi Guys,
I've been using Desire HD or Desire Z series NAND roms just to get the internet pass through working on the phone. this works wonder with the HTC sync.. However recently I've been bravely step into Gingerbread 2.3 NAND by MDJ and would like to ask if there's a way to have internet pass through going for CYANOGEN 7, gingerbread, non-HTC DEsireHD or DezireZ series..
bump! i need respond for this as well
Are you referring to tethering? Using your 3g on your computer? Yes it is possible. Check the description of each rom. It will give specifics on if a rom has the ability to tether and how to use it.

No, it's the reverse of tethering.
I don't think it's possible in non-Z or HD roms.

no, its not posible. internet pass trough is a htc sync feature and since gingerbread is a non sense rom htc sync doesn't detect the phone
So is there a third party app that can do this. I really feel this is missing in Gingerbread, I often use this on Andoid 2.2 builds

Sorry my friend...
It is a feature that is only available (ATM, at least) in Desire Z (maybe DHD too?).
This feature is very useful when you want to download big file to your device (such as download a game). This is useful if you dont have a wifi network.
My Xperia Arc (gingerbread) also lacks this feature

Web OS on Desire

Hi all
Due to being confused i have posted the same thread in Desire Genereal, Desire Q&A, General, WebOS Hacking&General and WebOS Development.
Please delete the wrong ones.
I was just wandering would it be possible and if there is any brave soul to port Web OS to desire. I have read a bit and would like to try this OS myself. Not rich enough to owe 3 mobiles though :/.
Just let me know if I'm asking/wanting impossible or it is doable and someone may take it on board.
thnx in advance for all replies
Regards
Kirior
I think it should be possible to do it, due to the fact that it also runs on a linux kernel, maybe with somemods on haret it might work... only problem, does anyone have a dumped rom?
It would be a enormous amount of work to do honestly because all current versions of WebOS were designed with a gesture pad and Android phones do not have these. You'd have to figure out how to map all the gesture functions to hardware keys. You'd also have to figure out how to get a virtual keyboard working on the OS right away as the OS was only designed for use with a hardware keyboard.
For the keyboard, I would think that you would try to install the virtual keyboard via PC. That would require hacking to force detect the desire as a pre in webOS quick install or something
Then that still requires the mapping of gestures into hardware buttons
Don't question me about this, I'm not so knowledgable about modding software
It would be no easy task, but to say that the only things standing in the way of this working would be a virtual keyboard and remapping buttons isn't correct at all. In the kernel there are many a way to remap keys, not sure about the gesture pad, but it could work, and the virtual keyboard is just a patch so you could bake it into the rom itself. The whole issue, why noone has even tried is that it isn't legal.
It's all low resolution as well so your stuffed until the pre 3 is out.
As far as I know right now there are no sources for this until the launch of the Pre 3, it would be interesting to see though.
It could be done with some sweat and tears, but just like when it was being ported to the htc hero, webos will not allow it to be copyright

That would be awesome. If it ports to the Desire then its just a matter of some time before it gets ported to the Mytouch 4G/Glacier. Sweet.

Read the beolw if you want, but for a start here is an interesting link for you:
http://pocketnow.com/software-1/no-palm-pre-go-pro-gesture-launch-on-your-touch-pro
The desire has an optical trackpad as opposed to the desire Z / G2's touchpad. But after realizing the difference in gestures from the video, that difference is kinda mute.
In the old winmo days someone said it was impossible to have mutli-touch on a resistive screen, until a talented dev wrote an sdk for it. It "cheated" by holding one finger in place and moving the other but even recognizing multiple screen inputs was amazing.
I'm kinda lukewarm / "meh" on the idea, but it would be cool to try webos on my own device (desire) just like trying Android on my Vogue (shipped with winmo) was cool. In fact, that's the reason I now own an android device!!!!!!!!!

Is anybody working on this? I heard somewhere that there is a team here on xda making this happen, but is it true? I really would like to see this happen and I believe that I am not the only one!
I think the main problem we're facing now is that there are no 3.x kernel drivers available for most of the current devices. Once we have this, porting to a larger number of devices should be quite straight forward.

What exactly is MIUI?

A lot of people want it on their phones, but what is it, and what makes it so good? Is it an aosp type rom kind of like cyanogen. Thanks and forgive the noobnes of the question.

Just another rom, just one with some serious eye candy. 2 things really turn me off of this rom. Its closed source nature (you never know what kind of **** is in there), and the fact it is chinese (which gives me serious doubts about the security of it).
Its slick looking tho.
Yes, it's an AOSP-based rom.

Yeah, I had heard it was chinese, which kind of turned me off to the idea. But other than that, just another aosp rom huh? I just don't understand why people go crazy over it. I've seen what it looks like...nothing special really. Thanks for the info though.

It removes the app draw and puts every icon on the main screen, you can move them around, but clutters things.

I bet your shoes are made in China. Do you trust them? It's in English and has no spyware, or CIQ. The port for this phone however has several key features missing and no offense to the devs, it isn't quite ready for daily use. No builds have 4G. Epic's has unstable 3G, WiFi, GPS, and camera. The Devs are working hard though and trying to give us something to use.

Evo View Port?

Has anyone tried to port the evo view to the nc? I had the chance to play with one and I think it would port well as it is gb based and it is on a 7" tablet.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
No offence, but... why?
1) The nook is running a VERY well established version of GB, so we stand nothing to gain there
2) The hardware is so different, it is a huge undertaking to make it work (why do people mention the screen size as if it is important? The important thing is native resolution..); again, we have a good working GB.
3) The only thing you might possibly want to get is Sense, but that will be tightly integrated into the framework, again, making it difficult.
Really, there is almost nothing to be gained for the community with such an undertaking.. its not worth giving a second thought to.
No offence taken! Thanks for such a quick response. I should have been more exact in my initial post, but yes, the sense ui is what I am most intrigued about. The view that I used had a form of sense that seemed uniquely tailored to the tablet form factor. Also, I only mentioned the size because, as a tablet, at 7" it too does not have HC and all of the compatibility issues that come with it.
Thanks again for the response.

If any of you have seen the inFini Sense thread, then you know that this kind of stuff is really hard. The main problem: All parts of HTC Sense on the View look for a 3G/4G radio. Hmm... the Nook doesn't have that, right?
Edit: That said, it doesn't stop me from trying to port it.
Hello,
There are versions of both the view and flyer that don't have 3g/4g and only have wifi. The resoultion of both is 1024x600 on a 7" screen. The only problem I can see is the kernel and ramdisk, to have the rom boot. Correct me if I am wrong.

Dosen't make any sense to me either, but there has to be a reason. I like the look of the flyer better too.

I had started to port the Wifi only Flyer ROM a few months back but got busy with school and work and never got around to it. I've got 2 weeks off between the summer semester and the fall semester, though, so with 40-50 hours of work and a wife that I want to spend time with, I probably won't get around to it, either. But of what I did get, there were some major kernel problems that needed to be worked on. Sense requires certain things in the kernel that I just didn't have time to figure out.
As a side note: The Tablet Sense rom is HUGE! Like MASSIVE. Like require 1GB of dedicated SD storage for it (before debloating it.)

im sure if any of you all were to get a Evo View or the Flyer ROM working on the NC then there would be a nice following. I mentioned it in other threads when people was talking about it and didn't get a very nice response. Ive been modding WinMo phones for a very long time but just have been getting into modifying a NC because i wanted a tablet but didn't want to spend all that money on one. Especially since once you start flashing ROM s they are very addictive. Also if a new tablet comes out i like to say i have that same setup on mine basically without unloading the bank acct.

I've got an HTC Evo and a Nook Color running CM7. You can get a similar feel to Sense by installing the ADW EX launcher and Fancy Widgets on your Nook. My Evo has 7 home screens, while my Nook has only 5, but it's still quite nice. And ADW has some attractiuve transition effects when you flip between home screens. Bumping the CPU to 1.2 Ghz helps, but it's usable even at stock speed.
