Does rockplayer actually work with the Wildfire? I've tried it and wasn't able to get it to run.

you can use any converter to convert your videos from .avi into .mp4 and use mediascape.
try to use Wuzhenhua Player v4.1, it has support for a wide range of audio and video formats. it's in Chinese but few buttons are easy to understand

Rockplayer now in market
It seems like Rockplayer is finally in the android market.
There are two versions for ARMv6 and ARMv7 processors.
Any ideas which one works on the Desire?

They're in the menu and the lower part of the screen during video playback where the controls are... so it makes the media controls section take up 2x the screen estate when brought up (the media control section becomes hidden after 2 seconds or so without touch so you can't see it - and by extension - the ads by then).

I think they can do very little about it. But if they can, till you wait you can use media player capable of decoding various video codecs.
Perfect choice is Rock Player, which can play almost anything, and because has two engines, simple codecs can be played with HW acceleration which saves battery, and rest by software.
What is nice, it supports wide range of subtitles and all features including encoding which you can simply choose in settings.

Default Video player

Hello. There is a problem in my video player. The sdcard has two videos by default, tutorial.mp4 and xperia.mp4. The videos can be played before the upgrade (android 1.6). One of the videos (xperia.mp4) cannot be played anymore after updating to eclair. Video codec changed or something? Thanks!

I cannot post outside links. Maybe because I'm new here.
I'll just send you a message for the link.
It worked fine with me.
Eclair version too?
Do you guys really need those videos? Cuz i don"t see anything usefull one them.. xD
Anyway, just try to convert to mp4, using the video converting option on atube catcher or any other app to convert videos.. that should work

Yeah its not that useful. Just wondering why the video is not playing anymore. It is working prior to eclair, some codec might have changed to render it non playable. And if you have some video with the same codec properties, it will not work too.

Both.
You can also download QQPlayer from Market, and it'll work.
Quality of videos is soo Gud than other ROM player
I also have Xperia X8 it plays all types of MP4 files without any problem. But Quality of videos in offical player in Eclair 2.2 ROM is too Gud than any another ROMS. It plays only in Landscape mode its also a gud feature.

[Q] MP4 on SGY?

I tried playing .mp4 files on my device... some of them play and some of them don't.... i even tried rockplayer... in rock player, the audio comes properly but the video is very laggy... what do i do?

Actually our galaxy y is able to play mp4 format type videos, but I am thinking why they are not playing on your sgy......
Sent from my GT-S5360
best thing to do? convert the video and audio to SGY and also screen resolution, you can get the most of it by doing that
our devices can play mp4 with max resolution of 640x360 and max framerate of 25. use mx player to play other resolution videos and to reduce the fast or slow audio select sw decoder for audio which comes up on top right corner while playing the video

try mxplayer it will play all file types
Sgy plays mp4 only if tge resolution of the 360p or 480p...any higher than that and it wont work
U could try other players from the market to try it out
I recommend
1)Mobo Player with the armv6 codec
2)Mx player with an armv6 codec
If these two cant play the video...u probably have to download the video in a lower resolution

The galaxy y cannot play video encoded in mp4 x264 - It will play but the video is very laggy
solutions
1- Find or convert to xvid avi format
2- Use cm7 and enable hardware acceleration in mx player (does not work for every video and definitely not on stock/stock based)
