New Wireless Tether 2.0.5 pre7 AP Mode works with 2.2 - Droid Incredible General

I just got this
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre7.apk
works in AP mode with encryption, i'm running pmf v2.1 (rom version, not android version) and everything is good. Thanks a ton to the devs, sorry if this was posted already but i haven't seen it. So i figured I would give people an update...

Installing now, I don't even see this posted on their site for download though (even though it's clearly coming from their site), how odd
edit: does this still require fw_bcm4329.bin in the android.tether folder?

doublepost fail

Where did you try to put a 7?
So the folder android.tether still has to be there? Ugh! I thought I read some where that once you go to 2.2, you no longer need that folder..Now I need to find that file again and reinstall it..
Okay, which version of Wireless tether.apk is working for 2.2(froyo)?

The APK he linked works fine. Copy the fw_bcm4329_apsta.bin file in the /system/etc/firmware folder into the /sdcard/android.tether folder, and rename it to fw_bcm4329.bin. Then install the linked APK, tether to your heart's content, confirmed to be working broadcasting in AP mode and works perfectly

Thank you .......

Again pardon my ignorance but I haven't had to put a fw_bcm4329_apsta.bin on my phone and Wireless tether works beautifully for me.

Works, thanks!

Installed APK and that's it. Works great. Thank you!!

Works great on my Evo! I just had to install the apk, didn't have to do any custom steps.

Works great!

Same here, if there is support for this in the kernel (for example any of Hydra's Kernels should work), then this file is not required.

Thanks. Works great!

Oh ok, I was just using the same method as previous versions in order to insure functionality, but if it's not even needed, all the better! Thanks for the info guys, I'll pull the folder off my SD.

thats because the Incredible doesn't allow anything Apple to connect to it, it is against their code lol
On a real note, my friend came over yesterday and he had his blackberry and iphone connected. What rom are you running?

I don't know about iPhone except that my friend with an iPhone could connect to me fine. However, some blackberries can't connect to an Adhoc network and I came through as Adhoc instead of wifi so it wouldn't connect. ON another note I showed on the same friend with an iPhone on her laptop as 802.11b/g/n I was the fastest option she had in our office.

I think you can use the patch of wpa_supplicant file from my build.. check out Jaws-MIUI-rc1 build..
use HD2ONE Build
or just replace the file as mentioned above.
I asked also on how to enable Ad-Hoc on my sense (when i was using it), but none of the methods worked for me (supplicant, .so modules, ecc). At the end i used the Connectify program on Windows 7 and this worked.
(Connectify is a Windows 7 software, that if you have a compatible wifi module, it will make it work as an AP instead of adhoc, and HD2 connects with no patches as it sees it as normal wifi and not adhoc)
very interesting post!!! I was looking for something like that but running MCCMjoon's Desire HD V2 and or V3.4. What files or what combination will work? Do not really want to flash to any other ROM at the moment
Thanks guys.
tnx
thanks for all replies.
so which patch i should use?

Of course, Astro has no permissions to write in system folders! You need to use Root Explorer! I know it's paid, no warez here. PM me for further assistance.

Removing Ads!

Ads can be removed on Android build by updating the hosts files inside Android/root/system/etc.
DarkStone had a made a custom hosts file (hosts.zip) but his thread is currently closed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518
...and the download link from www.gamesquare.co.uk/hosts.zip is not working. Does anyone have an alternate download location or a copy of this file than can be shared? Thanks a lot
Link is working fine - just don't click it, but copy-paste into new tab/window (as mentioned in original thread...)

Hi guys I've been rooted since Dec, 27 for WiFi tether and last night took the plunge with mikfroyo Rom. I love it but I miss Sprint tv. When I go to the removed apps folder and click Sprint tv to install it says not installed .. can someone please help me or point me in the right direction thanks alot..
use adb to push it or even flipz hero kitchen still works on the evo, you can push it to system/app that way. you could also manually copy/paste the apk in system/app from within root explorer.

[Fix] For Wireless Tether App on CM7 + AOSP ROMS

Well, after browsing around the general and q + a sections a lot, I noticed that there are quite a few threads about the Wireless Tether App not working on CM7 and other AOSP roms. I was confused about that, because the Wireless Tether app has always worked for me on CM7 and any other AOSP roms. Some people prefer the native tethering feature, but I prefer wireless tether because it allows 4g tethering, and various other reasons (acess control, it shows who's connected and lets me control that. Shows the download and upload totals, allows me to adjust transmit power, etc etc). Well, teh roxxorz and I began trying to figure out why it was working on my phone, and not anyone elses. I discovered that wireless tether started working for me on CM7 and AOSP right after I had used vaelpak's rom, which required a custom version of wireless tether. I also discovered that I had a folder on my sd card, called android.tether, which contained a binary file in it. Teh roxxorz discovered that he did not have that folder on his sd card. So just to test it out, I gave him the .bin file, and he created an android.tether folder on his sd card, and put the .bin file in it. He then uninstalled the wireless tether he had installed on his phone (we had been testing), and rebooted. He then installed vaelpak's custom version of wireless tether, and low and behold it started working. So I think I got that folder and .bin file from using the vaelpak version, but I'm not sure. Either way, I'll load up the vaelpak version of wireless tether, and the .bin file, and also teh roxxorz's instrucitons on what he did exactly. Hopefully it will work for any of you who are interested in getting wireless tether to work instead of the native app.
Also, you shouldn't need the custom vaelpak version of wireless tether, as it works fine for me with the version from the market. I think it's the .bin file on the sd card that's more important.
Just Download the BINfile.zip file that is attatched below and extract the actual .bin file out of it. That is the binary file you need to use.
teh roxxorz's instructions:
1. Created android.tether folder on root of sdcard [case sensitive]
2. Placed the binary file inside android.tether folder
3. Uninstall current app of wireless tether
4. Rebooted phone [since it messes up your wifi when it doesn't work]
5. Install the vaelpak modified tether you gave me
6. Open and run app; no problems, started successfully
Very nice write up k2buckley. I couldn't have said it any better. And as you do, I hope this works for many others.
NOTE! > If you're having trouble renaming the .bin file from the OP, on the second page of this thread I uploaded a zip file where you just need to extract the .bin file, and place inside the android.tether folder.
See page 16, post #159 for how to set up a proxy server if you have snail-like 4G speeds while tethering.

What you can do is when you save it, select all files as a save type, not winrar archive. Also uploaded it for ya.

Netflix on Thrive

Now that we have Root, can someone get Netflix to work on the Thrive?
I know that the Transformer has a hack (Some System file replacement) that let the netflix work on it.
Can we get something like that on the Thrive?
You can actually use that hack... If you are talking about the .zip you flash in recovery... I did it last night and have had no issues.
netflix works on all tabs now I think, there's a apk floating around.

I say you need to share this apk with us so we can find out.
Netflix does work on this tab with root and the hack. Prior to root though it was not working with just installing the .apk as confirmed here: thriveforums.org/forum/toshiba-thrive-apps/1145-app-working-netflix-honeycomb.html. Sorry I don't have enough posts yet to allow me to use working links, so you can just cut and paste.

exe and zip files to use netflix
Sorry, I'm a newbie & I don't get a lot of the terminology here... I downloaded an exe file and a zip file that were supposed to help me get Netflix to work. But, I can't seem to open the files. It tells me there's no known associated file type. What do I do to get net flix to work (in layman's terms)?

I don't know what files you downloaded, but to get the netflix app to work, you should have downloaded a .zip file from the asus transformer section, which you flash from the clockwork custom recovery.
