[Q] Can't Update Firmware - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi everyone,
I struggles for some time to make Kies recognize my phone; it still fails on my Windows 7 64-bit though, but at least it works on XP.
The most important reason for me to use Kies is to get the latest official update from Samsung (I'm still using I9000JXJF1). Unfortunately when I went to Firmware Upgrade section it gave me the following message:
Code:
Model Name: GT-I9000
Current Version: PDA:JF4 / PHONE:JF1
This device's version cannot be updated.
I really want to update to the latest official update as I heard it speeds things up and I started to face some lags from time to time. I don't want to reach the point when everything I run needs few seconds to start or the phone becomes not instantly responsive (the responsiveness was a major factor in my decision to buy it)
Thanks in advance
P.S.: I don't know if it's helpful, but here are my firmware files versions:
PDA: I9000JPJF4
PHONE: I9000JXJF1
CSC: I9000OJPJF4

You can use Odin to upgrade the firmware, it is an easy process.
I'm sure there are some threads already on it with step by step instructions. You can choose there which firmware you wish to upgrade to. I would go with jg5 personally.

I'm quite new to Android and newer to updating flashing stuff, so there are very little details that I know about the process, all from what I read here in this forum.
Anyway, the problem is I bought my phone here in UAE and it came with Arabic support (reading and writing) and I don't want to lose that when upgrading to new firmware, also I'm not really welling to try any custom ROM/firmware or anything, that's the reason why I wanted an official upgrade.
I don't know where to get these information from, but if I can get an official firmware release and make sure I retain the Arabic support, then I don't mind using Odin or any other tool to upgrade my phone.
Thanks.

KJ4/KJ4/KJ4 to KK9/KK5/KK9 upgrade available on Kies (for Germany sourced phones)

I haven't found this mentioned elsewhere on the forum but this afternoon I was notified of a KJ4/KJ4/KJ4(DBT) to KK9/KK5/KK9(DBT) upgrade by Kies.
(I'm posting here because it is not a "ROM Development" post.)
Based on feedback in the thread I believe the update only applies to phones sourced from Germany, such as those supplied by amazon.de. There will be a (DBT) suffix after the KK4 bit
I'm afraid I can't answer questions about the contents of the update or provide any technical advice about installation. I don't have the answers. I'm just bringing the availability of the update to people's attention. Hopefully, if you do have questions, someone with more knowledge of these things will chime in. This is my first Samsung phone and I've never been through the Kies update procedure before.
FWIW I'm doing a full Titanium Backup of everything and also a backup in Kies. I have not yet applied the update. I did try to do a Nandroid backup, but without installing CWM the option to backup is not available, and apart from rooting with Zerglings I do not want to mess with the phone beyond that.
Thanks, updated my EU Note to 2.3.6 and KK9 from 2.3.5 and KJ4.
P.S. lost root. Going to do a factory reset, root and reinstall my apps with titanium backup.
P.P.S. re-rooted the Note using Easy Rooting Toolkit, can't install CWM yet since there is not a version for KK9 yet.
When I connect to Kies I'm getting this:
Why does Kies say: Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies?
My note is stock
this is my 1st Android phone, do I need to backup before update if it's available from system update? Thanks
System update on the phone did not find any new update for me.
You need to connect the Note to Kies and a pop up box should come up to let you know there is an update, the whole process was around 15 mins in my case.
I think Kies will auto backup your phone before install the new update, and all your apps and files should be there when the update is done as this update does not wipe your device.
Just did the update, it shows now 2.3.6 . Le't see the improvements

Have you changed your product code to something other than it came stock? (i.e. have you changed CSC manually).
If you have - you will need to change it back to the original one and then Kies will let you update.
Let us know improvement you've noticed so far...
My phone is on PDA:KK2 / PHONE:KK1 / CSC:KK2 (TTT) and won't update...

Nope I didn't change anything on my Note it's completely stock....
Edit:

CSC:OXAKJ4
My upgrade is complete. I didn't time it but it seemed to proceed very slowly - I can't imagine what it was doing that could take so long - and then timed out part way through the process. I restarted from the beginning and it all went through OK, but again very slowly.
I could not get Kies to backup my data prior to the upgrade as it kept giving an error. I don't know whether that was anything to do with having rooted the phone, so I unrooted as a precaution and decided just to get on with the upgrade.
I didn't unroot, but normally, i lose root after flashing.
After that rooted with the simple zergRush method, working like a charm.
What version of kies were you using
I am not getting the update.
I get what I've attached in Kies 2.1.0.11095_121.
I bought my Note from Negrielectronics, I think it's Polish, but I've left it stock.
Think its country specific?
I am not sure if it's country specific.
Can anybody who has received the update say whether or not it makes the UI less laggy?

I dont know if it's about the country where you are. I've read in the one development forum thread that you might have to do a factory reset. Many people reply that it worked for them...

Kies 2.1.0.11095_121.
I don't know how Samsung has all this organised, but my Note is a European model from amazon.de and I am running Kies from within the UK.
My Note was on KJ4/4/4. If your Note is on some other ROM version at the moment then I doubt very much that you will get the update to KK9/5/9.
I did not have to perform a factory wipe before or after the upgrade. As far as I can tell everything is intact but now I am on 2.3.6 instead of 2.3.5.
hmm, kies is still telling me KJ4 is the latest. polish version here.
stock rom untouched,

[Q] Why won't my Beast Running UBKK2 Update?

Since I received my N7000 on November 17, 2011 from Mobilecityonline my Galaxy Note won't update. It's running UBKK2 - the CSC is TTT - which a Brazilian CSC.
I've searched every thread and correctly followed every step of the process I've found unsuccessfully, I've tried the manual update and receive "no update available" every time I read about a new firmware release. The CSC is listing only 3 codes; VNO, TTT, and TDR - I installed each one of these CSC codes in an attempt to prompt a software update to no avail. I haven't even gotten the update from January that provided the addition of the Torch & everything that came with it!
Short of rooting my Note is there anything I can do to either change the CSC Code to one that receives updates regularly or manually update the firmware? I thought I'd wait until ICS became available hoping that would correct these issues but I'm slowly getting PO'd that I may not be even to receive ICS.
Plus I didn't/don't see the reason to have rooted by now - I've rooted all of my Android devices from HTC EVO 4G's & 3D's, Nook Color, to Asus Transformers. Is there anything I can do without rooting this beast and will I even receive Ice Cream Sandwich?
I'm begging for help please. I'd sincerely appreciate ANY help and I'm willing to donate to anyone that will help achieve everything I'm missing out on to date.
Thank you in advance,
Jim G.
If keeping it stock is all you want, just download one of the stock firmwares and flash it with odin.
You may have to be a member to see this link but.....
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-N7000&r=6#regiona
^^^
They are the South Amercian firmwares currently out, but the European ones are newer if you want to try those.
Wow that was fast!
Wow! Thank you for the super fast reply. Can I D/L and use any stock firmware, I was hoping to use either the UK or German versions cuz they look like they get updates more often than the rest. If I'm wrong I stand corrected - could you please point out a version to use or am I stuck using the BZ version forever?
Oh Lord I hope not! * Forgive me - I saw you suggested the EU versions after I hurried to reply, my fault! *
Again, Thank You in advance,
Jim G.
Brazil Note.
I too have a Note with a ROM from Brazil. Since this is my first Android phone and I'm a noob so far, what will it take to get mine over to a euro one. Will this brick my phone? What region do you recommend for a US user? I understand that you meant Europe, but there a lot of choices like open, open euro or open germany or europ or german. Any directions or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
flshing a firmware for another region is fine... I offen just update to whereever has the newest update
But if i update to a stock rom from another country without changing csc, will i be able to update via kies whenever a newer csc update gets release online for my country? I got this ideia it wont be possible and will still need to change it again via Odin. It bother me if it wipes my phone each time i update. Still in kka/5 here with unlocked phone...

After updating to another regions ROM, You can just Odin back to the original stock ROM if you really wanted to, to restore KIES function for the original configuration.
But to be honest, the only time I ever have, is just for warranty purposes, I don't touch kies in any shape or form, there really is no need.
The way I work is, I like to use the stock ROMs, but rooted etc... So, when I got the phone, I rooted it, put the ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM) on and now I just update my ROM with the repacked stock versions made to be flashed with CWM. They are exactly the same ROMs but rooted and deodexed, some I "believe" are multi CSC too.
Swyped from my finger, to your face on my Samsung Galaxy Note, using Tapatalk!
Thank you for all the help! I'm choosing to use the open-Germany (DBT) stock ROM cuz I've been keeping track of the ROM that was updated the most. I found it to be the German and UK versions but it seems the open-German edges it out.
I've got it all D/L'd and am actually waiting to get my notebook up and running after a CPU upgrade. Once I receive the thermal paste updating my Beast is the 1st order of business!
It sucks that the UBKK2 firmware never allowed any kind of an update, it makes me wonder if I'd even get the ICS update when it's released on March 15 or shortly thereafter. Of course that's according to the rumor mill and I'm simply referring to that since the SGSII's received their ICS earlier today according to SanFirnware.
So who knows? Again, I thank everyone fir their help and input.

Firmware Update Over Kies Doesn't Work!

'ello geeks,
I know Kies has been infamous for just about every reason a piece of software can be..Perhaps before investing in S4 I should have gone through Kies reviews as well and not just phone's.
Anyway, the issue I am facing is since Samsung released the firmware upgrade for Galaxy S4 , I have been trying to upgrade via Kies (I do not have a wife router) and faced with below:
1. While it downloads the firmware data, it randomly shows phone's disconnected and I have to restart the download.
2. On one instances, it did go through the upgrade procedure completely but only firmware ID got updated as none of the features came in...on top of that ability to change unlock effect in settings got disabled for some reason. Post this I had reset the phone.
3. Another question is, for around 350 mb upgrade, Kies keeps on downloading 7 gb+ data,,,is this normal? and why would that be for?
[Ref: Windows 7 Premium, Intel C2D 2.2, 2 gb RAM]
[Ref: GT-I9500 Purchased in India]
Please let me know if you people have a different experience and whether anything can be done to mend it...or this is how the life with Kies is!
Thanks!
I am assuming that you are not rooted.
Try updating it manually via Odin
Download the official firmware file from here

[Q] How to Get Official Updates via OTA/Kies

Hello everyone,
I got confused after reading a lot of posts and threads about the subject, because each one says something a little different.
A little background:
I bought a new Galaxy S4 GT-I9505, it comes with android 4.2.2 and I wanted to update it to the new 4.3.
But when I try to update via the software update in the phone, I get "The latest updates have already been installed", and when I try to update via Kies I get "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies".
Click to collapse
My phone version is:
PDA: I9505XXUBMG7
Phone: I9505XXUAMDC
CSC: I9505EVRBMF5
Now, after reading about it I still don't understand why I can't get official updates, but I think it's either of the following:
1. My CSC and PDA do not match.
2. I changed my CSC to something different than the original.
I don't know which one of the above is true.
Anyway, I don't understand how this can happen if I bought a NEW phone?!
If 1 is true then:
1. What does that mean? What should match?
2. How come I get a new phone with CSC and PDA that do not match?
3. How can I get them to match so I can get official updates?
If 2 is true then:
4. This is a new phone, so how come this isn't the original CSC?
5. How can I know what the original CSC is?
6. What should I do to get the correct CSC (and get official updates)?
I would very appreciate if you try to help me.
I really want to finally understand the CSC and PDA stuff and get myself to have official updates via OTA/Kies.
Thank you in advance for helping.

How to change baseband version in Galaxy S4(i9500)?

I bought Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013 back when it was a flagship device, it came installed with Android Jellybean, almost 4 years have passed and it is still stuck at Jellybean. Since then, it didn't got a single update.
I'm not sure what is the latest update for S4 because the updates pushed by Samsung never reach my phone and that is because of baseband version. Other S4's have got quite a few updates till now. In fact, I updated my friend's S4 to Lollipop and my own S4 is stuck at Jellybean.
I visited Samsung website and found that they release updates only for some baseband versions of S4 and that list didn't contain the baseband version of my S4 so it is forever stuck at 4.2.2. Samsung Customer Care says go to service center, they will update your phone manually. I said why should I when I got a flagship phone, it should get updates OTA.
Because my S4 didn't get any update, the same thing must have happened with many other ones and will probably happen with S8 due to launch in 2017. Many of those S8s will never receive any single update.
So is it possible that baseband version can be changed and I switch to the one that gets update? There is always an option to flash a custom ROM but if I get an official update to Lollipop, I will be happy.
Before the Samsung update reaches your phone it has to pass through the carrier's hands first, where they add their crappy bloat.
In other words, if there's no update, then it's probably your carrier's fault.
You could update manually with Odin.

I am from India so no system of carrier here.
Umm, you guys in India have cellular networks. Those are the aforementioned carriers. They may not add any bloat, but they do have to test the updates first before releasing them to the devices. This is to ensure the update doesn't cause unwanted problems on the network. However, we're heading into 2017, and after all this time you should have received an update to Android 5.0.1. So let's verify that you have a model intended for India. Please enter download mode and read off the model number at the top left corner of the screen.
Changing the baseband will not automatically get you a ROM update. If you want an updated ROM for your phone, I suggest updating to the latest bootloader and modem, flash TWRP, and then flash a custom ROM.

Here is the correct firmware version of my device: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/14242/I9500XXUAMDK_I9500ODDAMDK_INU
Sam Mobile is not displaying Android version, if you look at sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9500/INU, my device PDA and CSC versions are second from last. But if you look at other S4s in the same list, most of them got Android 5.0.1 so can't I just download any one of them and flash it using Odin?
You're looking on the wrong page. Individual ROM pages do not display the Android version, but the full list does, where that information is applicable. In your case, the ROM you linked to doesn't have a version number, but also happens to be the ROM originally on the device, based upon the PDA and CSC. Check here. Not only does it tell you the version, but tells you the date it was posted. The one you want will be at the top of the list, as it's the latest available for your device.

I also posted the same link as yours, just scroll to the very bottom, there are 2 entries that doesn't display the Android version and one of them is mine - second from last. The PDA and CSC matches my device.
PDA - I9500XXUAMDK
CSC - I9500ODDAMDK
Well, you might want to reread my post, as I edited it while you were typing.
Anyway, in post 6, this is the link you provided: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/14242/I9500XXUAMDK_I9500ODDAMDK_INU
This is mine: sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9500/INU/
Big difference.
The link you provided takes you directly to that particular ROM. The link I provided takes you to every ROM available for that device using the CSC of INU. Based upon your opening post, you're looking to update to the latest ROM. However, you are getting hung up because the ROM you currently have on your device doesn't have a date. It doesn't matter how old your ROM is! The latest version for your device will always be at the top of the database page, i.e. the link I provided in post 7. Thus, as of this moment, the ROM you want is here. Download it, flash it via Odin, and you're done.

I've downloaded firmware from the link you provided, flashed it via ODIN and now my S4 is successfully running 5.0.1, thanks a lot! Need one more help from you - I didn't perform factory reset, I directly flashed the firmware and now only 2 things have changed on my phone - root status and android version. Root is now gone and that's what I wanted, Android version has also changed but all my files, data and apps are same; no single app got deleted, all are exactly same as before so do I need to perform a factory reset and wipe cache?
If you haven't encountered any bugs or app crashes, I don't think a factory reset is needed.
