Correct kernel for Rooted Droid with CM6 - Motorola Droid and Milestone Themes and Apps

I just installed the CyanogenMod 6.0.0 Droid-RC1 and i need to know the correct kernel for OC.

Just use P3Droid's kernels, they work with any Rom.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App

I use Chevy's ultra low voltage kernels - but be aware that some phones can't handle the low voltage/high frequency combo.

thanks for the info

I have used P3 and Chevy both 1.0 low voltage. Chevy made my phone run hot so I use P3.
Can't run anything faster than 1.0

I have used P3Droid's and Chevy's 1100 mhz kernels, anything over that and my phone would freeze and reboot, or boot loop. I tested a new kernel from kdlfg and OMG, it's amazing for me. I can run it at 1200 and NO problems, quadrant score was 1694 at 1200/300, first time I could run over 1100. Doesn't heat up, everything works fine. There are several voltage levels, the link is below, I am using one of the test kernels (1288a). The test kernels are the one's to use, the ones above them are the ones you can find on Rom Manager. Enjoy!
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...hium-mod-kernels-official-kernel-lithmod.html

Are these jdlfg kernels okay foe UD 8.0?
Currently using chevy lv 1.1 with no problems.

can't post links yet apparently, but on the cyanogenmod forum for the moto droid, the two kernels people seem to be gravitating towards the most are jdlfg and slayher both threads are viewable on the front page, and I know at least jdlfg has and 'any kernel' release for other roms.

[Poll] Phone Overclocking

So, as the title says this is a poll about phone over clocking.
Who's phone is capable of overclocking and who's isn't?
My goal is to find out if there is a way to tell if you can overclock or not based on the phones s/n.
Procedure:
So pick the proper answer on the poll, then if you could please make a post saying whether you can or cannot overclock along with your s/n.
Works
S/N=HTO2SHF05245 B
Doesn't
HT03GHF05302 JV002-00 D
mine does 768..without a hitch.. and doesnt get hot either..will post the sn when i can check my phone.
Example post/my results
I cannot and my serial number is HT03GHF05302 JV002-00 D.
my hero can, yes
I tried several methods of OCing, and finally found one that works for me on another site. I'll PM it to you since I don't know what the rules are on posting links to other sites here.
In short, yes I can, but only using a certain method.

Can you PM me? I'd like to hear about it.
been oc since Toast released his kernel, but I do still get the random fc on incoming calls once or so a week. its annoying but if the call was important they leave a message. The difference in speed is worth it.
OC to 768 with no issues.

D3fault sent me the link and now I can OC up to 710 (768 freezes me). Before he sent me the zip file for the OC stuff I could not run any OC ROM's, no overclock widget, or setcpu. Now I can run overclock widget (LWP flies now) and setcpu. Still can't get all OC'd ROM's to load but it is worlds better than it was.
Lastly, I do get some heat though, oh well.
Here is the link for those who can't get their hero to overclock, try this (courtesy of D3fault, not me). Download and add to your SD, flash, download overclocking program of choice (I really like the OC widget in the market) and done.

I can over clock, have been overclocked and remained on for over a day now. Battery temperature is 24.7 and thats under constant texting and web-browsing throughout the day. Ive downloaded a couple apps as well.

Ummm, why do you want my S/N #??? My hero is oc'ed an loving it.. depending on what rom i use that day..some get hot, some FC some things...but a few are flawless fer me with a lil tweek here an there
Overclocked to 710 (too squemish to get the higher kernel) and though it sucks through battery like no tomorrow, and the fact that... well.. it didn't speed any lag in the os itself, games and graphics work a hell of a lot quicker!
ROM - Bittersweet v1.2/stock radio/using DialerOne/LauncherPro
Kernel - Toast-godmode OC .29 kernel for DamageControl/based roms
Neocore:
1.5 - 12fps
2.1 - 24/28fps
w/oc kernel - 30/32.8fps
@lokipipin, the OC wants to find if there is a correlation of phones serial number differences to the freq. of people who can't overclock (i.e. it could be a revision, or even a ****ty batch of pcbs or something, and that could be tracked by s/n)

Well, there's not much i can do with your serial number that will harm you, so don't worry. But i'm looking to find a correlation between serial numbers and chip revisions, which would in turn let us know based on serial number if you can OC and etc.
We did this with the PS3 world a long time ago and it was pretty helpful, i'm surprised no one did it sooner.
And only based off the two that i have already, i can say that maybe the D batch was manufactured with lower quality chips. But that's only based off of two results, just imagine if i had more to compare.

What exactly does this do? What does this actually change as far as the rom files? Can i flash this on pretty much any rom that says it OC's?

Wish I could tell you. All I know is that once I flashed it, I was able to use the OC widget. Prior to the flash it wouldn't work. I am a noob, sorry.

I can overclock the phone but cannot overclock to 768. Only 710 and staying stable.
Edited my S/N missed a character at the end.

Obviously the actual credit for that goes to person who posted it over at Android Central, beezy420. It's worked for me and several others so it's worth a shot if nothing else works for you.
I flashed it to my rooted stock 2.1 and it worked, so give it a shot.
yes my hero is OC'ed with 710
So far I have only tried to OC my Hero once. I did it with Zen's MT3G ROM and it worked, but it definitely created some heat. I think with that one it was OC'd at something like 691. Like I said, phone worked, but it DEFINITELY heated up a LOT more than normal. I can't easily access my s/n right now, so I'll have to update this post when I can.
I can OC to 787 or higher. Been running OC since day one of toast first release 1-2months ago. I have made a few kernels for myself with 787 and once with one a step higher, all booted fine with no reboots.

Does anyone have 1.26ghz stable?

I've been trying many kernels just to see how well it would perform, but only 1.22ghz has worked on my phone. Just curious if it's only stable on certain phones or certain Kernels that are more stable than others. Thanks for the info.
It's only stable on certain phones, but I've been able to run it for 10 hours on kingklicks #9 kernel before it crashed
That's what I figured. What were your linpack results with it at 1.26? Is it worth the extra .04 ghz? I'm assuming no and although I don't really care because I'm happy with the performance of the device I was just curious as to whether it was my device or the software.

Correct, all the processors on the Evo are not equal in terms of over clocking. Its just the way they are manufactured. Some can hit 1.26, some can only hit 1.21 or x.xx. Depends on how lucky you get by how well the processor fits.
On my phone i can only overclock to 1.19. I have tried several different ROM and kernel combinations. The best i can do. Linpack is in the high 30's if i remember correctly. Been running fresh with the new HTC kernel lately.
I can do 1.22 on certain kernels . Rest freezes and have to go to 1.19

SetCPU no longer underclocking at low usage?

I have moved from CM7 to Hombase 5.4, and found that setcpu no longer seems to do anything. on CM7 it worked as i had hoped, underclocking the phone when i was doing low intensity stuff like texting, and pushing it up to full power for videos etc. now it does nothing but tell me core temps, which are always high as its always running at 1Ghz.
Can anyone explain how to get it back to underclocking?
Many Thanks
Try a different kernel.

This is a known issue with the OC faux kernel. I was running into the same problem with his enhanced stock kernel after using webtop. After reflashing the enhanced stock 0.2.0 it would still get stuck at max 1Ghz after using webtop, but a reboot would get the underclocking working again.
I only tried the webtop hack to see if I could get it working. I haven't gone back into it at all so I don't know if this is something that will reoccur. Although I will say that with my day to day use I have not run into any clocking issues since.
Thanks, is there a page somewhere which details which kernels do what and which would work with my rom?

This is the page for faux's kernels. As far as details, start reading and searching through that thread as well as the threads for any ROMS you are using. 99% of the time people will either have the same problem (and possible fix), the other 1% of the time they will identify a bug (i.e. maxed out CPU).
Keep in mind faux does have different kernels for Froyo, GB, and CM7.
For some reason even if I move the slider from 1300my to 1000, when I touch the screen with at least 3 fingers for a few seconds it pegs out at 1300. I read our cpu's are daisy chained so to speak
so the 2nd core kicks in when needed. I tried cpu tuner and it gives the option to powersave and only use one core or if you choose performance it will allow Both cores. Just might be setcpu isn't designed fully for our dual core setup.
thanks for the link to kernels, but i cant find one for HomBase, or a Kernel only download on the homebase thread. i have the Version2, which has some blur, but only the 1.0Ghz clock kernel. where could i get the 1.3GHz download by itself, to see if that might help, as its the one CM7 had iirc
Thanks

Get the 1.3 from the faux thread that I linked to. They're in the very first post...
CM7 is the only ROM that has its own custom faux kernel. For all other ROMS just match the kernel to the build the ROM is based off of (Froyo or GB). If you're using V.2 of Homebase then use the GB one.
Update: Also, there are other kernels out there. I was only using faux's as an example since you were using CM7 and Homebase.
thanks, ive now got the 1.3Ghz kernel installed successfuly, but it still seems like setcpu will not underclock. i dont know if its normal, but the "Scaling" option is greyed out, and i cant get access to the Advanced tab. is there something im doing wrong in setcpu itself?
thanks again

Lack of underclocking is a known issue with the latest OC kernel. I'm unclear whether it's actually a bug with the kernel or with setCPU not supporting dual core devices. But yeah, there's a problem with it right now. I'm on the stock enhanced, and other than the webtop issue I mentioned above, it works fine.
Scaling/advanced are not available, this is something that is determined by the kernel you are using not the app.
ok so if i understand you right i would be best off using the stock enhanced kernel (for now), as it will underclock fine?

It's working perfectly for me, except after webtop use (which I don't normally use).
I'm still having the same issues regardless of weather I choose power save or performance it will not underclock, and those are the only governors I get the option of :s

[Q] Only stock kernel works fully w/ Webtop?

I've done a bit of reading and don't seem to be able to identify a kernel that works fully with webtops.
There are 2 current issues:
1. Status bar on webtops do not work with popular kernels
2. CPU speed locks at 1ghz when in webtop
I know for a fact this is an issue with Faux's kernels and it is typically there on Clemsyn's kernels. Are there any kernels out right now that may provide some of the performance and battery life tweaks of Faux's codes w/ a working webtop?
I recently purchased the $50 lapdock and am interested in trying to get everything working. I may even give up Faux kernels to go back to stock =(
I have a stock ROM with Clemsyn's timing tweaked kernel. I have tried webtop with the multimedia dock (not the lapdock...backordered like most others), and I've noticed that both cores peg at the 1.4 GHz max and the phone could heat a small room. Like others have reported, after I quit webtop, the processors are still pegged at 1.4GHz, and almost 100% utilization. I get poor performance after that until I reboot the phone. Not very nice.
The main reason I wanted to go with an alternate kernel is more for UC and UV. Right now I have Battery Saver set to the max, which seems to UC me to 608 MHz most of the time and I don't really see any performance issues. I know stock doesn't give OC and I don't even think it does UV. Don't know about UC.
I haven't paid attention to the status bar issue...I've only used webtop so far just to check it out...but with the lapdock I plan to use it more (coupled with the full Ubuntu mod).
clenynsns uv better than any other lkernal

You can use kholk's kernel, and i think it works perfectly with webtop

Edit - Nevermind

On my lapdock/webtop now and can confirm that everything appears to be working well with Kholk's kernel.
After seeing the suggestion here, I tried it and am both speedy and stable using the 1.5 GHz version with everything undervolted -75. Got some freezes in Webtop if I opened more than a few Firefox tabs when I UVed -100
Glad this kernel is webtop compatible. It helps a pretty good bit. Definitely makes being without MIUI/CM7 more tolerable.
never mind. I am dumb.
The latest faux kernel also works with webtop now.

User feedback

So I've got some time at the moment to work on the vibrant again, so I figured I'd ask you guys a question.
What are you guys wanting out of the vibrant?
I'm not really one to go for the latest and greatest buzz word feature like "Linaro build" or "optimized build prop," etc.
lengthy posts are encouraged, tell me what you still want out of this device. What do you use it for? What do you want to use it for? Etc.
Like I said, not looking for "gimme 500MB ram" or " an updated 2.3 kernel", I wanna know what user experience your looking for.

Point if the question was missed, it's not about faults. Also there are very talented individuals working on the GPS issues. I cannot test GPS as mine no longer works. I want to know not just for me but also the talented Devs working on the vibrant, what ideas do you guys have for improving the Android experience, just in this case I happen to be gearing it toward the vibrant as I won't be working in anything else myself. That doesn't mean it's faulty, there is always room for improvement.

ECOTOX,
Just in case you do monitor this thread Ill give you a request. Ive built a couple of Froyo ROMs now, and plan to stick with Froyo for some time (at least until the EU error fixed)
That said I usually package the Bali 18.8.UV kernel with them. My favorite Froyo kernel is the DMZ kernel.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/633-kernel2213ghzdragonmodz-nightly3smartassscary8262011140pm/
What set your work apart is the fact it could stepclimp in 100mhz increments. My phone pukes at anything over 1100mhz. Its has the smartass governor (the one I want) that works perfectly. It is smooth, quick, and almost perfect for my needs. Ive only packaged it with one of my ROMs due to the lack to stepclimbing. Here is a request:
Ive tried up to 3 different overclock / volting programs. Tried to set it manually via init script, but the kernel has 2 stock settings: 500mhz / 1000mhz. If I I overclock to 1100mhz I only get three settings: 500/1000/1100. Is there any way you could get a 200mhz in there?
That said your git is available. I don't know how but I guess I could try and build my own based off your source / patches. You kinda sounded like you wanted to help/work some on the T959. With the EU error we have more folks coming back to Froyo every day. Froyo is not dead if I have anything to say about it -

I personally would love more battery life. I truly cannot get more than 45 minutes of screen time in ICS.

I would be in your debt sir. Thanks for your time.
I just wanted to say thanks for the great work on DMZ, ECOTOX. It has surpassed Overstock as my kernel of choice, but I had one quick question/request. Is it an issue with the kernel or with a particular ROM for some functions to get a little quirky when you start to overclock into the 1.2Ghz range? Whenever I set the CPU ceiling to 1.2Ghz the long press functions on the haptic buttons of the Vibrant would become flakey. I read that's fairly common with overclocking, but was curious who the culprit might be.
Not knowing anything about how scalers/governers can be implemented, what would the chances be to get something like Smartass v2 or a few more options on a new Froyo kernel? I liked messing around with them when I was running Sub-Zero on ICZen to find that happy medium of battery life vs performance.
I say a Galaxy S III themed gingerbread ROM. Anyone?
