Phone app alternative? - Galaxy S I9000 General

Is there any alternative phone app to replace the stock phone app just like launcher application?
The stock phone app comes with i9000 will open back to the dial pad every time when I open it, instead of the last function being used, which will be more convenience if it could back to the same place like call log. Is there any way to change this behavior? I don't see there is any setting in the phone app.
Thanks.

Can dialer one disable/remove missed calls notifications in the notifications bar when opening the dialer? (Like the default dialer does)
I tried to uncheck the settings (Dont clear missed call icon in notification settings), but it didnt work.
I have to manualy go into the notification bar and Delete the missed call each time.

If you use LauncherPro you can longclick the Phone icon on the dock and choose the Phone app from the applications list. It will then open up properly, displaying the call log if that was the last tab you used on the phone app.
Seems to be a bug (or feature for all I know) in launcherpro that makes it always open on the dial pad

can you get a new app for receiving calls? stock one sucks

Thanks for the finding. I just found this bug few days ago, forgot to reply to here. I'm niece using the stock Phone App.
Cheers.

I'm using firmware JM2 and the stock dialer defaults to whatever screen I was last using...just tested it

Can anyone confirm if their stock dialer just searches through first-names of contacts when they use the keypad to type a name?
In mine if I type the surname of a contact it is not found.

If you change 'Order of display name' to 'Last Name First Name' in Contacts, dialer will search for last names.

New great dialer

Here is some new dialer. I like it a lot. Especially in car.
http://www.mesoftware.co.nr
It's more comfortable than original one.
T9-like search of contacts from dialer itself. Dial any number from contacts with 4-5 finger taps max.
Quickly accessed picture dialing.
Changable skins.
Only things that lack are - quick access to call history and to new note.
But the developers promise to add soon.
Looks really nice. Good alternative to Finger Clix which I have already purchased.
Unfortunately, it can not map to the default green phone key - probably not possible at all unless you replace a system dll.

Michael

Excellent program JaToAc but it is a bit slow to load once you press the green phone key. I am missing something or is not possible that when you enter a number directly to be able click somewhere to store the number as a new contact. So far I have not been able to do this with any of the dialers I have tried. Any info would be appreciated.
you cant do it with both dialers (adding a number from the dialer)
but phoneplus is the best dialer there is today.
mobidial is too slow and not using quick search for contacts, which is really dumb cause it does the same thung the default does (so why buy).
i bought the phoneplus and really enjoying every second, plus the writers of the program are intending on improving it a lot.
Silly question but what is T9 dialling?? I have seen it mentioned lots of times here but I have no clue what it is.
Thanks

Dialing with your contacts woth the keys of a normal phone, so for the b you press the 2 and for the a you press the 2 again, for the r you press the 7 and for the t the 8. Then you can call Bart...

REQ: Dialer which I can use with Fingers?

I am looking for a Dialer for Windows Mobile 5 that lets me dial contacts without the use of a stylus or without having to use the pushbuttons - just the touchscreen.
Basically I am looking for something like this - but in either english or german.

Thanks will give it a try!
You should use Smart dialing. It's default in wizard.
What's the difference between Smart Dialer and the one from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35326
I have a Wizard, but I dont know SmartDialing...screenshot anybody?
AFAIK smartdialing is just an add on to the original phone app that lists contacts that match the nubers you have diald already. It doesent make it any easier to acctually dial the numbers. I dont use smart dialer at all, it was just in my way most of the time. So last time I did a hard reset I then followed with a soft reset at the "your device will be customized in 3 seconds" screen and then installed all the CAB's I did want manually.
Later; Lew

I have tried almost all types of smartdialing from default one to third-party software and i strongly recommend you to use the followings:
- Imagine Finger Clix WM5 (English version)
- Inesoft Address Book
They are not free but the biggest advantages of these software are that they both allow seaching contacts with two clicks thanks to wise T9 system and they are super fast with beatiful skin
Give them a try and you would never disappoint, especially inesoft address book (don't forget to accept assigning inesoft to hot key when setup)

When you use smartdailing, just type in the name from the person you want to call and smartdailer looks it up in your contacts. This works like T9, for example push the numbers 665754 (or less when it allready in your screen) to call Molski. With this tool you don't have to know the whole phonenumber and you don't have to go to your contacts for calling.
I hope it is al little bit clear how Smartdailing works.....and I don't want working with out it any more!!

can i change these things on the hd2?

Is there a way to make a shortcut or some button that will take me straight to the sms screen that i get when i press the "all messages" button, and the "inbox" one for email. The preview thing that you can flip through is neat and all, but not the best way to shoot off a quick sms. Running touch x-treme rom btw

Yes, in your start menu, there's icons for "messages" (not "messaging", that's different), and "e-mail"...you should be able to create shortlinks for those just like any other link that's in your start menu. I just tested it on mine and it worked fine. If you have multiple e-mail inboxes setup, clicking that link will first ask you which inbox you want it to take you to...but otherwise those both will bypass the pretty-but-useless Sense interface for those
Thanks for that, I got the email one, but for the life of me cant find the messages icon you mention, there is no mention of it in the start menu. I was gonna flash roms again tonight so i wont worry too much about it untill i find the one i like.
i was looking for this too, thanks!

Hmm, I'm guessing the ROM you are/were on just had a different msg client on it that didn't put that link in the start menu. I notice on my TP2 the icon with the same function is called "texts", so look for that maybe...?
If you look in the /windows folder on your phone, you'll probably find either "messages.lnk" or "texts.lnk" in there, copying whichever one you find to /windows/start menu will make it possible for you to then create a quicklink to it.

You do realize that when you are at the messaging screen that shows the fancy animation you can hit the button in the upper right to make a new message, without having to drill down into all messages and find the person
I like it when it shows me the different threads i have with different people, like it did on my g1, and i only have a few people at a time that im messaging so its not very hard to find the name i want.

Comma doesn't work

I've always used , (pause) and ; (long pause) in my contacts phone number to dial extensions, voice mail password, etc. It looked like this:
(my voice mail number),(my password)
So I didn't have to dial my password every time I wanted to check my voice mail. It used to work perfectly fine on SGSII, but I recently got a Nexus 4 and sometimes it just doesn't work. It's as if there is no number after the pause. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is there any workaround?

You have to use the menu button to add pauses.
Actually, there is no menu button on Nexus 4. There is an icon with three vertical dots on the up right corner, which has nothing to do with pauses and long pauses. However the keypad in SwiftKey itself has two options ( , and ; ) which I think are used to insert pauses.

The action overflow acts as the menu button. Go to your dialer and hit the menu button. There is an option for it.

LG G2 Modified Contacts

Guys, is there possibility to change Contacts apk? The fact is that Call button at Contacts apk is far from contacts icons. When you use only one hand, for example left hand, in order to call from Contacts you need to move and hold out your left hand's thumb to right side of Contacts. But if Call buttons were just near contacts icons, if would be much easier to make a call. Is it possible to do that? Please, just tell me how

Hi
You can change positions of Dial, Call logs, contacts and so on. In Dialer tap on "3 dots" and choose Edit tabs. Also very comfort is that you can swipe left or right your dialer

You have misunderstood me. I do not wont move tabs. I need changes only in Contacts application. By default Contacts app has from left to right: Icon, Name, Call. But i wish apk to have like: Icon, Call button, Name
now it is such
