Best Radio that compromises between sound quality and battery life - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey guys, just want to know which radios are you guys using. I'm using darkstones latest build, had 2.11 installed last night but battery life was horrendous. Today switched to 2.10 on the advice of some members. However sound quality during call was bad, could hear static.
Which radios do you guys use that strikes a balance between both? Or is there no compromise?

call sound quality bad or good?

i've readed, that in some test say some user, that the quality of the call sound a bad.
it's true or not?
the HD2 in in my opinion a gread smartphone, and i think, if over 50% sad, that the call sound quality are not bad, i buy it one.
but if the call sound are bad, i take an other htc-phone.
thanks in advance!
Did you try to flash any other radio ?
Kris
Tested on Tmobile U.S.
Sound quality from earpiece was good and above average in loudness. IMHO compared to other WinMo phones.

i don't have currently the HD2-smartphone.
If on other roms/radios i have a better call sound quality, let men know there name! (i know, i will lost my guarantee)
I`m not going to give you a specific ROM ... just you have to read some topics in ROM Development section, to find which ROM would suits you best. Read user opinions etc ... look for suggested radio versions for custom roms, do some tests ..
This is pretty much how it works
I found a rom the best for my needs after few other roms tested ... When I stack with this rom, than testing few radios with this particular rom ... and found the set (rom + radio) which is the best for my needs, gives the best battery life, sound quality etc (in my opinion).
Kris
cause it's a windows mobile phone. lots of wm phones have this problem
I do think it's odd that such a fantastic phone suffers from such call quality issues. My previous Symbian based phones had much better call quality. That's not to say that I'd ever go back to Symbian after owning the HTC HD2, but I do find it to be the Achilles' heel of the device.

[Q] What does and doesn't work on Android?

I'm considering selling my MyTouch3g 32a for a HD2 device... But, I need to know some things before I make this move.
It looks like you can't yet replace the WinMo 6.5 with Android, so it has to run off SD. At least that's what I can infer. How does this effect performance?
Is battery life good on the HD2? My MyTouch3g can get about 17-18 hours off the charger.
What does and doesn't work on the HD2 running Android? Any quirks I should know about? ...Is it stable and reliable enough to be a daily driver?
Also since I'm on T-Mobile, I'd be looking for a T-Mobile branded HD2... does this matter?
Sorry for all the noob questions.
replacing winmo will be possible in near future by a nand rom. i guess noone knows by now what will work better with a nand rom. most people think that battery life time will increase dramatically, but i won't count on that...
for me, running android from sd-card has no disadvantages but as i said before, we have to wait for nand roms.
with new kernels like S1 or S2 from mdeejay battery life is great (for me). it lasts minimum 24 hours on normal usage.
as far as i know there is just one big and some small issues with android on hd2:
big one: data disconnects with ppp. this is nearly fixed for me with S1 kernel, but approx. once a day i still get data lost...
small one(s): very few touchscreen freezes (escpecially when trying to answer a call).
just now i can't remember other issues, but since about 2 months winmo is just used for booting android on my hd2.
my conclusion: android is a very well daily driver

Thank you for the info.
What does "data disconnects with ppp" mean? and if this happens, what do I do to resolve it? Throw into airplane and out of airplane mode?
you're welcome. as far as i know there are two internet protocols:
rmnet and ppp. because of low speed, rmnet seems to be vanished in nearly all builds. the good thing about it was stability! ppp has the opposite properties: very fast but till now a bit unstable.
data disconnects means that it's not down- or uploading any data while connection seems to be established regular. as you guessed right, you can handle it with airplane mode or by disconnecting and reconnecting internet connection. there is also a (semi)fix for that, which will reconnect for you automatically. but i'm pretty sure that this data loss problem will be gone in the near future (devs are still working on it).
p.s: sorry for my poor english, i hope you understand everything.
As for me it is very usable on a daily basis. I didn't think it was possible until I started flashing Android. Everything is great except for what fruchtfliege was saying. But even then, I have never gone back to Winmo.
fruchtfliege: is your LED notification light working properly? Mine only lights up once and that's it.
compared to that old 32a, the hd2 is an absolute monster!
theres an ocational minor glitch, but nothing like things were on ported roms on a dream/saphire....
its smooth sailing...

sorry a bit out of topic: can i install mdeejay kernel to my mccm build? and where can i find it? thanks.
I'm using the MDeeJay evo 2.3 build and i haven't found anything not working at all. The battery last longer than it did on winMO. Been using this build constantly for about a month now, apart from the odd reboot I've had nothing but fun and games
I would personnaly recommend this build also.

no ppp disconnects?
Thanks for all the replies, this has been real helpful in my decision and will probably grab a HD2 when/if a WP7 rom comes out just to have the best of both worlds in my pocket.
One last question, I see the MDeeJay evo 2.3 build mentioned here, but I'n not a fan of sense. Is there a CyanogenMod port that's really stable?

you're right. this seems to be another small bug. mine's not working properly, too. doesn't matter much for me, because i never used the led lights as indicator for calls.

i'm not sure which build mccm is, but if it's from mdeejay it SHOULD work (as posted in his kernel thread)
The LED notification light 'usually' works fine for me. Under 30% battery and it stays lit though
Only thing that doesn't really work is the camera on HD builds.
So far I've been disconnect free since I changed to S3 kernel from Mdeej - however I also disabled the stock tab and uninstalled my taskkiller which might've helped.

Which build are you using? You mean it works for missed calls and sms?

Speaker volume too low

I'm praying for someone who can solve my problem.
I LOVE my n1 but I dont hear it when Im outside home.
I surfed tens of forums searching for the solution and there is no dsp manager or lvh that has been able to solve the problem.
can someone help please?
p.s. i heard that maybe cyanogenmodded rom on gingerbr could solve the problem but i heard also that it uses dsp manager which wasnt working on my n1
Are you using a custom rom?
Most custom roms have an audio boost over stock. And maybe that DSP Manager would only work if the ROM supported it, so that could be why nothing has worked sof ar if you are on stock.
I think you're looking for the vibrate option
the audio boost is present in most custom ROMs such as cyanogen. so you really should have no problem if you use that. i know my volume has increased very well using cyanogen so i dont have any complaints anymore.
i do remember in cyan 5.0.8 that the audio hack was TOO loud and people complained, so the dev's reduced it to somewhere in the middle. perhaps you can go try that old ROM and see if that helps just as a test. if so maybe you could edit your kernel to match that old hack? might be a lot of work though...
i'm using one of the gingerbr roms from this forum
so you'r suggesting me to wait for the cyano's gingerbr?
p.s. today i bought an ideos for my old father ((( its LOUDER AND LOUDER than my n1 (((((
Unfortunately, you will have to live with crappy HTC speakers I am afraid. Rom's don't have a significant difference - I mean it will still sound crap :/, I don't know why HTC keep doing this.

dont say me so! please! i heard about people who solved and had to REDUCE volumes beacause the loudnes made the speaker clip instead!
i wanna clip my speakeeerrrrr!
Try enomthers Official ROM with the AudioMod kernel. I now run my incall volume at 50% where on the stock ROM I had it maxed all the time. The speaker phone is actually useful now as well. Besides this excellent perk its also a very fast and stable ROM with lots of features that I've found I can't do without. I ran a Gingerbread ROM for a week and was so happy when I switched back.

do you know if it's possible to flash only the audio hack? i'm just running stock cyanogen 6.1.1 and i would like to play around with the audio hack. can i flash it somehow, or does it have to be built into the ROM? and also, i have a build environment set up, so could i just play around with the kernel code for the hack, and compile my own kernel for testing it out?
Can anyone suggest any 'good' solution? kernel or otherwise to fix this $#@$# 'bug' of low in-call volume in Nexus One??
Would really appreciate all the help!

That's my problem from the beginning. Speaker is crap and there is nothing you can do. Tried different ROMs and nothing changed it.

[Q] Which ROM? Good FM reception AND battery life

I am currently using Samsung Galaxy Tab as my primary phone but unfortunately it doesn't offer any FM radio support. So I'm in search of a HD2 Android ROM which can satisfy the following criteria:
1) With acceptable FM Radio support
- MIUI's FM Radio reception is really bad
2) With battery life comparable to original HD2.
- I currently charge my HD2 once every two to three days because the primary usage is one to two hours of FM Radio. I've tried a couple of Android ROMs, but they drain battery pretty fast, sometimes the battery get completely drained in 10 hours without new apps installed. I'd be very grateful if someone could recommend a ROM with a normal battery life.
3) In-call recording (optional)
4) normal Bluetooth drain (optional)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
1) FM radio is problem (in WinMo too). My HD2 has worse reception than the cheapest mp3 player but .. I use build-in radio from CM7 ROMs and it´s better than nothing. You can try it..
2) In my opininon 3 days is utopia if you want to use your device reasonably. Anyway I had the smallest battery drain with charsinghs unofficial CM7 nightlies.
3) I have not found any useable yet ..
4) I beleive that "60mA battery drain" issue in non-Sence builds will be solved soon
good FM reception

Okay. Very funny.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
pretty bad radio, ain't it? I have a pound shop radio with ten times the reception of this piece of, well, piece of not-good-radio!
I personally feel tht theres no rom out there with perfect radio reception
It's perfectly possible to obtain perfect FM radio on the HD2, but only by streaming the station via the internet - no hiss or crackles that way!
Yeah I use my age old Nokia XpressMusic phone for radio while I'm out and about. The HD2 has a really bad FM receiver it seems. You always have to be positioned correctly just so it won't 'hiss & crackle'.

[Q] Talk Mic Background Noise

I just got my HD2 a couple days ago an went with MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v2.6 A2SD+ NAND build which was nice and easy to flash over and has really impressed me.
The only problem I have, however, is that the talk mic is too loud and people I call complain that it sounds like I am on speaker phone. I've tested it a bit and it seems that it is too loud.
Obviously the build I am using is not the newest, but has this been addressed in something like pongster's HyperDroid builds?
I've searched all around and this seems to be an issue that was more common when the MDJ build was released, but it would seem people are still having issues with some newer builds?
Thanks so much!
So, I have switched over to the HyperDroid builds and it didn't help the problem, I also went ahead and followed the proposed solution on this thread and haven't really noticed much of an improvement. Is there no way to throw an app in the signal path and just turn the gain down? Or better yet run some sort of background noise reduction?
