AntiVirus - Streak 5 General

Being as this is my first Android phone i have been reading about Virus checkers and just wondered if any of you guys use one and if so which one

Never used a virus checker on my WinMo phones and I've been fine. However, given that this is Linux based, and from what I know of Linux...I wouldn't worry about viruses. I could be wrong, though.

if you want an antivirus program choose norton for android

Maybe this will help:

It's impossible to root on Mac or Linux unless you use a virtualisation program like VMWare Fusion, etc.
Ask to borrow an old windows laptop from a friend, that's what I did!

Maybe we bring a linux version someday if we manged custom roms.
But a macversion will never come sorry. But feel free to do it on your own

Soft brick. No odin, mac user. Need help FAST!!!

Just restored Fusion 1.2 from Obsidian. I flash fusion 1.2 with stock kernel, it booted up fine, then restored my nandroid back up of fusion 1.2 with core R3/z4mod. Now it hangs at the vibrant screen. I still get Millie's voice on start up, but just hangs at the vibrant screen. Im a mac user, so odin cant help me. My blood pressure just went through the roof. Please help me!
Anyone? Please help.
**EDIT**
After many tries, I made into Clockwork. Flashed a fresh fusion 1.2. Crossing my fingers.
**EDIT EDIT**
All set. She booted right up.
Glad to hear you got it sorted man.

No duel booting for me. Its a ppc mac. I will take a pc if your buying.

No don't duel boot linux, because odin doesn't work on linx trust me i have linux and bricked my phone and tried every possible program that emulates windows and it won't work. Next time you get a brick that you can't fix by getting into cockwork and flashing another ROM don't post a thread, you'll have to use odin so this means go to a friends hosue with a pc or buy one.
Mac Mistake
Getting Mac is a limiting experience. Unless, you just want to be a retail user. But, since this is a Development/mod/hack forum site on a whole, consider using a p c there is much more flexibility with using that platform

Which all the more sucks that we cannot manipulate Android OS on a device like Samsung from OSX. The world would be so much easier if everything was Unix native first before spreading out to everything else.

+1000. I love my mac. I wouldn't trade it for any pc. Even if it means I can't fix a bricked phone. Just wish I could do some dev work with it.

Buy a Windows license. Install on your Mac through Bootcamp. ODIN back to stock. Problem Solved. Don't want to use Windows, you're SOL.
This is why I'm picking up a small notebook pc....just to dev and fix.

Windows just has a larger, and more inexperienced, user base than Linux. The malware are proportionately larger, and untreated ones even more so.

The best one is you. Not downloading pirated apps from China is the most effective defense, Barring that, Lookout claims in the article that they effectively protect against it.
Lookout has already delivered an update for its Android users to protect them against known instances of the Trojan. If you are already a Lookout user (free or premium), you are protected and no action is needed.

Also read the article. The virus was caught by using a bull**** app that wasn't in the android market.

Crack WEP/WPA

For educational purposes Is it possible?
Try penetrate, see if you learn anything.
tried. Doesnt support the wifi im trying to check the strength of.
I've never seen such an app released, even in iOS or Windows/Mac.
Ios has aircrack
well there are ways to crack using linux. and there are ways through windows but not really as smooth as linux. so i was wondering about android.
I'm sure someone will make an app. We just have to wait.

Beware of android market malware

Redmondpie report here which is self explanatory....
Now thats what im talking about...
And both of these require users to download and install crap on their phones. The solution still seems to be to only download reputable apps from reputable devs.
Oh well,,time to install AVG!!!

Grr Google ...
So that is probably how my twitter account got hacked.
If the mallware can do all that mentioned in the article then I guess it will have no problem reading saved passwords like Gmail and others
Twitter account got hacked a while after starting to use Galaxy Tab, I am thinking the pass from Android was read by some mallware.
A Skype update mentioned a similar thing and asked to update.
If I remember correctly Android was supposed to allow each application to read/write its in its own area in the device, I guess that only applies to the ... "good-ware" applications, the mall-ware can read all the other data.
On the other hand Google can do a great job when it comes to not letting us see/install all applications because we are from some X country.

My mama once told me always use protection son!
As Mulder on the X-Files used to say, “Trust No One”. Not even this site. Use your common sense and check the sources. Can you verify the information? Does the information sound balance and reasonable? Where else can you research this before you do something that cannot be fixed? At the end of the day, you are the last barrier of protection for yourself.
