Screen not really in standby - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I have noticed a problem with all Android ports Enclair and Froyo, when the device go on standby the screen is not really turned off, if you look carefully under a light you can see a bar that is moving from down to up, completing all the screen surface and restarting, the bar is a little more clear than the dark of the powered off screen.
The backlight is turned off but seem the pixels are working, could be this the reason for why the battery performance are not the best?

it is being reported the WM ROM that u are using affects this.. what ROM are u using'?

Now i'm using
Artemis ROM V26.1 ITA
RADIO 2.10.50.28_2
Tried with the last EnergyROM and same problem.
I remember a user some days ago posted a video where to see the problem.

Yeah, power managemen is not yet optimal (4-5% of battery consuption in standby every hour with wifi, bluetooth, sync and 3G disabled), with WinMO less than 10% after one full day.
But they have made a good work!!!!!

SOLUTION: How to save battery life. Really works.

There are other threads already on the following app but some of you may not realise what it does if you were to read the subject line title.
There is an app which can underclock the cpu of the HD while it is on idle and suspend modes.
I have tested it on my HD and it works brilliantly.
Please visit this thread to read up on it more.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507301
Install only version 1.0 if you have a HD and not the higher versions.
Have you had any problems with locking up or anything?
What happens if you set the backlight off to say 20mHz but have music playing, will it affect the performance?
Touch wood I have not had any lockups yet. Just tested playing music with backlight at 20mhz and no performance issues.
I'm trying this application...
And I'll tell you the result in few days.
Great.
For the record, I have got 2 days out of my phone so far with this app. Before using it my phone lasted about 12 hours.
Looks like good stuff...I'll check it out & report back.
the developer seemed to have disappeared... 1.2 is said to have problems with HD... there are random screen corruption reported too.. thats why i am hoping that 1.3 comes up first
leobox1, try the older version 1.0. I have and it works very well.
installed and will report later.
BTW, can you go as low as possible on the clock speeds for suspend and backlight off?
Thx for the link, i will test it!
This doesnt seem to work on my install of Miri 6.5 V10. I tried V1.0 first and the reported proc speed was always 528 on V1.0. I then uninstalled 1.0 and installed v1.2 just to see and the proggy always reported 528 @ 1.325v. Anyone else get it to work? I may have to go back to a 6.1 rom if not cuz I really would like to have this. Thanx for any info.
Daz
erm..strange question, but where does it install to?
I tried installing version 1.0 on my HD, it told me of no errors, but i cant seem to find it anywhere, not under programs, not with the file explorer..
It says its installed when I check installed software, but I dont know how to execute it..^^
I use Wm 6.5 miri's Rom V10.00. I installed the 1.0 version, but i can't see it on my start menu or anywhere else. i did restart , but nothing happens
Once installed you'll find it under settings, system, processors. You may need to restart.
will try that, thank you very much ;-)

I've put on the same settings than the screenshot on the first page.
NB : 3 % for 6 hours on " suspend " then
8 % for surfing 20 minutes (on XDA-dev )
Could someone give the correct voltages to not damage the blackstone ?
(and Tha it can start nevertheless).
I tried version 1.0 and it made my battery life even worse. The other thing that is bad was the battery indicator would change by 5% increments. Last night i was 99% battery, 7 hours later on suspend it was still on 99%, so i'm thinking 'wow'. When i wake up and actually use the phone, not even heavy. 6 hours later it's on 60% with minor use.
I uninstalled it and now my battery is going down in 1% increments.
Bad program.
use the new version 1.3, it works now really flawless and I had over 8 hours suspend only 1% battery draining.

You might want to consider upgrading your Radio ROM version, I flashed from stock Radio ROM to 2.07 (as this was necessary to use the custom ROM I chose to install) and bettery life is really good I find, even better than version 2.08.
If you are willing to do this, please see this link.
Note: you must install HardSPL (once installed successfully, it will show as SPL: 1.42.HSPL instead of 1.42.0000 in Bootloader mode) on your HD2 to unlock it so you can install other Radio versions and custom ROMs.
Start by upgrading to the 1.66 ROM from your provider, then see what you're up to

i concur... upgrade rom to at least 1.66 and radio to 2.08.50.08_2
i am getting great battery life out of this radio.
with your current rom and radio i guess all you could do now is:
a) install bsb tweaks... it has a power saving option but im unsure as to what registry changes are actually made by it.
b) search these forums for battery tweaks. there are quite a few good reg changes that have been posted.
Wait at least a week as before that, your battery isn't fully conditioned, so you don't get the best out of it.
If you browse internet or have the phone in constant use than it´s normal that the battery is sucked out rapidely - the display and wireless connections consumpt the most energy...
One example: Surfing via Edge/3G demands 300 - 550mA (in peaks)! So it´s no miracle that the battery runs out of juice...
See my log in attachment. This were 19 minutes browsing with 3G (in the middle the phone switched to Edge). I´m currently running EnergyROM 23544 with radio 2.08.50.08_2, browser is Opera Mobile 10 beta. Standby consumption should be around 9 - 18mA (I have 1% loss over night in flight mode)...
Also, bear in mind that the full capacity of the battery won't be reached until several charge/discharge cycles have been done when you flash to a new ROM.

I am wrong in thinking that batteries these days don't really need conditioning, even though I say that so far I am letting my battery totally die before I recharge but its like when I put it in flighmode at night to save battery it still can drop by 10%, is this normal??
thanks for your replies

upgrade your rom to a newer version
It's a huge difference, at least for me between 1.48 rom and 1.66 offical rom. With 1.66 WWE and radio 2.06 my HD2 last for 2 and half days, with HSDPA always on, emails every 1 hour and moderate calls. And no other programs to save power...
Hi!!
So I have got Radio 2.07 and EnergyROM 23544 because the guy said he had only 1% drop in flight mode through the night or would you still say for me to go to 1.66 with Radio 2.07??

Problems
Just flashed using HSPL to the energy rom
all went well and my device restarted, nice interface and at the bottom was a please wait bar increasing saying different things and then it said very fast, "restarting device" on the restart my device is stuck on the black screen with the pink circled arrow!
if i take my battery out it first goes to a screen saying energy
then into the user interface and the please wait bar at the bottom again and then it says restarting device when the bar is full and again on restart its the black screen with the circled pink arrow!!
i was meant to flash my Radio to 2.07 after it turned back on back at this stage i am thinking 1, i cant change the Radio to 2.07 and i cant even change firmware because i have to have the device with the user interface to use Active sync
thinking i could well be screwed right about now unless some very kind person tells me otherwise!!
thank you
Hold volume down key, reset phone, hold until you're into the tricolor screen. Then plug your USB cable and flash that radio

Yeah that is what i thought, I am at the red green blue and white screen and at 1st it says serial at the bottom, i plug in my USB and it changes to USB but when i go to Active Sync it states that it can not find my phone!!
really struggling with this but needed to do it since i was getting about 8 or maybe 10hrs out of my battery!!
thanks for the fast reply
Seems i did not actually need active sync to say connected, i just clicked the radio update when at the multi coloured screen so now i am on radio 2.07 and back to my phone restarting, lets hope this time it will restart!!
oj so i waited until my phone restarted before to post!!
it restarted with the radio 2.07 and the EnergyROM 23544 but still the same, when my phone loads into the user interface all looks nice witht he bar please wait at the bottom but when the phone restarts on its own it just gets stuck on the black screen, the red writting at the bottom about the radio version just never shows, then if i take the battery out the same process starts!!
any suggestions please??

Hi,
My battery runs out very fast. I use ROM 1.66.409.1 (76641) NOR
Radio version 2.06.51.07.
I try minimizing the 3g use, wlan is off, BT is off, no programs in the task manager... I have tried it all, but with no luck.
The battery power disappears rapidly.... Any suggestions?

Battery starting to put off my HD2 love :/

Hello..I am an overall very excited HTC HD2 user but i am having huge battery problems which is why i am asking for your insights In general if phone is idle it can go as far as 35 hours straight without any charging. But when i start playing around with it, browse menus , look through settings, launch apps e.t.c the battery drains like mad..sometimes even 3% in 10 minutes..
i do not know what could be the cause of this in particular since listening to mp3, watching movies does not chalk down too much power,i can even say i was slightly happy in that area(consumption and quality wise)..
so far i have done the below..
-hard reseted
-got a brilliant new mmc (transcend 8gb class 6 FTW )
-flight mode only during nights
-bsb tweaks
-some of the tweaks mentioned in the registry tweak for battery thread (not mmc ones, read alot about data corruption risks)
-tested battery (output voltage and mah are fine and it only gets warm after 3 hours of constant ndrive use-which is normal)
-i never installed anywhere else besides phone memory(apps/games)
-virus free
-i have no data plan so 3g/hsdpa access is not a possibility(also deactivated all connections from NoData app)
-disabled all auto update app functions(weather, footprints, my location ,time e.t.c)
the only possible deal i can figure out its to blame is the radio rom..
As i said earlier i am very interested in hearing your thoughts, comments, suggestions on my issue..Thanks for hearing me out

do you use msn live?
i have the SAME EXACT problem, i do NOT have any apps running, i always use cleanram, every apps always get terminated.
as soon as i TOUCH my phone, the battery drains, this battery is rediculous, i have BsB tweaks with powersaving, i dont beleive how you guys get a full day out of this crappy battery when mine doesnt last 10 hours with just texing/and web browsing. im on my third battery replacement, i conditioned my battery three times and STILL the same problem, i feel like braking this phone in half, im using my blackberry bold 9700 now which lasts me 3 days with FULL usage ALL day, my hd2 is about to see the hammer soon
try flashing it to another rom
I stepped from stock rom to artemis and I use my HD2 often but with the stock rom i didn't even came to the middle of the day but with that artemis rom i can get till next day morning without charging plus it's very stable and i almost never do a soft reset and i use this artemis rom about a month now and i didn't even do a hard reset after flashing
sorry for my english hope you understand me
My HD2 will last 2 days constant usage. This includes web surfing and emails being pulled down all day via exchange.
The battery goes down quick to about 30% and will stay around there for ages.

I hear good things about artemis as well but i am afraid i am not up to the flashing challenge..too much of a chicken to play russian rulette worth 680 euros :3 (in case i break something)
just for a test select sign in with a different account so it wipes your details amd reset, use your phone normally and dont use live see how that gets on.
I had my phone running for 2 - 3 days of medium use. as soon as i signed up for live it was lasting less that a day even if i used task manager. I then wiped my details then it was back to normal again.

With Artemis you can hardly go wrong. It does not flash your radio only the OS part, you do not have to use HSPL but SSPL which is far easier to perform. It's all explained on the Artemis thread itself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
regards, Kuzibri
BTW, if anything should go wrong, almost impossible with Artemis ROM's, then you can always flash back one of the original stock ROM.s from HTC itself (1.66 or 1.72)

hmmm...this is actually interesting...the artemis post seems to be fairly close to stock rom...BUT..if i backup all stuff i got now, will the usual apps (spb backup e.t.c) store everything?like e.g pc imaging apps(acronis true image , paragon drive backup) ? and if they do...and something goes wrong i can restore from pc even if hd2 becomes unbootable?

By the way i have 1 weird question about all those ROMs..Are they created from scratch from their makers or are they just modified/edited/tweaked versions of the original OS (ROM) that shipped with the phone?
I ordered a battery bundle with a wall charger, 2X1200mh batteries and a Mirco USB wire for $14 bucks. This is my first full smartphone so its hard for me to get used to the battery life.

yea the hd2's minimal battery life is something that i never had to deal with before also... (i've owned other smartphones but usually could last 2-3 days with moderate to heavy use...) but then again.. i never had a smartphone like the hd2 before

Battery Drain
Do you guys experiencing battery drain have Co0kies Home Tab installed?
There is a known battery drain issue with CHT if .NET version 3.5.9198.0 is not installed. The battery drain will disappear when 3.5.9198.0 replaces .Net 3.5.7xxx.
Don't forget to update the registry to activate the new version and deactivate version 2 or earlier version of 3.5!
Co0kieMonster said:
Some users have had trouble with the battery drain.
I've now added this solution to the first post.
About battery drain:
There is an incompatibility with older versions of the .Net framework that can cause the battery to drain too quickly.
If you have this issue download the latest .Net version from here and install it on your device.
Even if you don't have the issue, it's always good to have the latest .Net version installed.
Big thanks to mike2nl for providing this solution, and to MichelDiamond for tracking the issue while I was away.

I just posted this in another battery thread but I think the real key is booting Android as quickly as possible and not really the lights so much as I have achieved similar results just using Exceller Multiple Build Loader app and not even touching the keys/lights. C/P from the other thread-->
Tried different techniques to get better battery and found that even on the same build with exact same setup would give varying results. Here's my setup that I would like others to try and post their results. SetCpu with screen off profile set to 245min/max 100 priority and whatever main profile you like; but use conservative preferably or interactive for best battery performance. Any task killer that auto kills all tasks with screen off (be sure to add SetCPU to ignore list). And here is the most important step, use an auto android booting app with minimum boot time setting. I have been doing some experiments with this and found that if you boot into Android as soon as possible, it seems to give better battery performance as opposed to playing around in WM then booting Android. Have tried this with several WM/Android combos. For the first time ever I'm able to get comparable battery performance out of Android as WM. I'm running a bare bones WM (but should work with and WM rom) and using Exceller Multiple Build Loader app set to 3 secs. Even running several sense builds I was able to achieve 3-7 mA draw during standby according to current widget. Took my phone off the charger at about 6:30 a.m. and it is now 11:15 and I still have 25% battery left after pretty heavy usage on standard battery. This is as good or better than what I usually get from WM! Hope this helps.
This was the one thing that was ruining my Android on HD2 experience. I finally got this step right after a few tries.
I've been using it for two days now, and getting consistent 5-8mA readings on standby. There's definitely something to either booting Android quickly and/or hitting the back button to turn on the LED backlight on the buttons.
I just checked my phone, and it's reading 5mA.
And I don't even have SetCPU on my phone. Should I try it out?
I think HTC winmo sense is the culprit. I disable the sense in winmo and get very low Android battery usage during standby. Sometimes around 3mA.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I also suggest to disable sense and put wmo in offline status.

why should turning off sense be good when it comes to battery usage under android? this would mean winmo and sense are running in the background of android...which is not the fact!

You had to try this 2 times before it worked yet you claim this is the final solution for battery drain problems?
i agree with you guys but let me just throw this observation into the mix here. i've read somrthing here in these forums regarding the sd card that came with the phone had something wrong with it ( don't really remember the exact issue ) and if you swapped it out for another sd card, there would be less SODs and a better battery as well.
i've tested this as i have a 4gb sd card and have had no problems whatsoever. everything runs smooth as silk. and, once again, the battery life is great.
NOTE: i do use the keypads lights on trick as well.

Most of us don't need to do keypad gymnastics to get those same results.
Just use the exceller boot loader and set it for 3 or 6 seconds. Having stuff turned off till you need it is a great way to preserve the battery.

Just use the exceller boot loader and set it for 3 or 6 seconds. Having stuff turned off till you need it is a great way to preserve the battery.

Ya thanks for the comment, i was doin this in between class so i didnt have time to just try the Excellor Boot Loader!!!
Updated the First Post Thanks!!!!
well now we hav almost 48 hrs of battery life on android... and moreover i info radio 2.14.xxx is better than 2.15.xxx in battery life...
Not working for me
Sorry thats all not working for me
i'm still having about 60 mA with VBNROM reloaded - 2.15.50.14/ Bangster 1.5 / Scandisk class 2 - 8 GB
I realley tryed everything and have read a lot of posts. I'm really distressed at the moment.
The best battery cosumption i ever experienced was with mccm 2.5 But that one was not stable for me.

1. Are you using SetCPU with a 245 max screen off profile? 2. Are you disabling WiFi, data and GPS when not using it? 3. Are you using a auto task killer with only SetCPU and Current Widget in ignore list? Also, I don't have 3g in my area but if you do I guess it could account for increased battery drain. If you're in an area that is in/out of coverage, this will cause higher battery drain as well. I get spotty coverage where I work and the battery drain is terrible.
Try mdeejay sense rEVOlution 2.0 androind build with your vbn wom rom - works great !
Try this:
1. switch phone radio off in winmo
2. power off and charge until green light comes on
3. boot winwmo on vbn, then immediately click on EBL
4. boot into mdeejay sense rEVO 2.0
5. turn sense off and use LauncherPro
I get *very good* battery life now with avg 5-7mA draw as evidenced by currentwidget.

a few things to try
1
boot into android as quick as possible, 3 or 6 seconds
disable gps location in android
activate the lights when haret is loading
disable wifi & 3g
disable hotspot
disable sync
running htc sense? try a build without it
and many more attempts
im finally at 3mA in airplane mode, 5mA on phone, 7mA with wifi, 20mA with wifi & 3g

I want to try that version of Android, but I don't want to mess with my good setup...

no need for keypad gymnastics or other weird and wonderful combinations - before booting into Android, just use KeypadLedControl to force the keypad lights to stay on, then fire up Android using your loader of choice (I use Android Loader, modified to automatically call KeypadLedControl to turn on keypad lights, instead of just letting it run on WinMo startup).
Been rebooting 5-6 times now with consistent low 5-10ma standby current.

The Solution....kind of ;-)
Thx for u'r replys.
I considered all u'r tips and sry dudes it didn't work for me I think the problem was related to the Bangster Build, even though i have been lonesome with my issues.
I changed the LED lib, and tryed to let the LEDs on while booting, set CPU is in condervativ mode/screen off 245min/245max 100% interactiv. And yep, GPS and Wifi where off. I even searched for any SD-Card related Problems in regestry. But Chucky did some great work i think. (i switched again concernig to faster boot)
At some time i think each Leo is different to the other. I changed to Hyperdroid 1.7 with 2.14 Radio and the results are definitely mind blasting.
12 hours on the road, did some surfing, some calls, 2 h musik.
Strange though i used the same kernel and same Radio. Something must have gone wrong by flashing Bangster or something.

[Q] Fluctuating battery current!

Im using current widget to record my battery consumption during standby and normal use.
Im using SetCPU with 988max/245min for normal, and screen of 245min/max, and battery <30% at 614max/460min.
Also set Taskiller to kill all apps when I turn the screen off.
Autokiller set to optimum (40,50,60).
Turned off htc sense in WM, and boot up haret when keypad lights are on.
Recently changed my WM rom and radio from ChuckyROM lite to stock 3.14, and radio from 2.12.50.02 to 2.15.50.
Android rom is NexusHD2 v1.6.
I found that I can get my battery current to be 3-7mA at standby, but heres the problem! It will only stay at this current for a while before reverting to 40-70mA as it used to be! This is very annoying as you can tell it saps the battery like crazy. In addition when using the phone normally with wifi on I can expect 250-300mA which I think is a bit high. Playing games gets me about 400mA. These effects happen before and after getting Taskiller.
What else have I got to try!?!?!! Please help!
I've had this problem too - And i've found that switching Bluetooth off and on again will stop it for awhile.... But i'm using MDJ's S4 Kernel, and haven't seen this issue for a little while now.
The biggest issue i've always had is every minute I have 4-8mA, but every so often it'll jump to 150mA+ for a minite or so.... At first I thought it was the weather updating or email syncing, but this drain is happening completely at random....
It's got worse since using MDJ's S4 though !
Yeah I forgot to mention I was using MDJ's S4 kernel. I have exactly the same problem as you as well, the mA will jump randomly to mid 100s, I've turned auto sync off and everything!
I had the same experience with this kernel. Randomly, it would drain 160mA with brightness at min, wifi and 3g off, sync off. I'm not using any setcpu or killers. Hopefully this will be resolved with the next version.

I've got sync on... But still happens with me - So can't be anything to do with syncing.
I also have 3G permanently off, but polo735 is also the same, and his still jumps up !
I first thought it was 3G, as in my house, i'm on the edge of 3G reception, and it quite often switches at random between 3G and GPRS, so I have it permanently GPRS. No difference
I've managed to get a reasonably good battery life by changing to shubcraft 2.0 and upgrading my SD card to a 16gb class 6. Previously had a 2gb now I'm getting 3-12ma on standby - not too bad.

Hi all,
I have a question about this battery life.
With the latest version of Android builds, do we really needs CeT CPU ?(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419), Or the battery drivers allready do the same job that this Cet CPU?
And, the most important, do you know if we will need it for the Nand, which seems to be coming quite soon...?
It is claimed that you don't need set CPU for the newer builds but I still use it just in case.
Also when nand gets finished you should still use set CPU because it helps maximize the battery you've got.

Yes I think that there still might be a little difference, I nearly stay the entire week end with my battery, for the first time (without using it to much)
