easy android hd shut down - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Ok guys dont flame, Maybe MANY people might know this but I didnt.
I laughed my ass off when I thought about how many times I had to open it to take out the battery. Anyways all jokes aside.
In android if u wanna shut it down just HOLD down the hang up button for a few seconds you'll get a quick menu. YOU WILL SEE SHUTDOWN on it.
Push it android shuts down. turn it back on and start windows.
Dont flame if u knew...I didnt
Cheers guys

Help, my HD2 won't start after installing and removing banana game.

Hi, could you please help. I installed the banana game then realised that the game wasn't compatible with HD2 as the game was showin g only on 3/4 of the screen and thye sense was unstable. I removed the app and the device switched offf. Sinced the I haven't been able to turn it on all i get is the initial black screen wity the pink ring. It won't resen using up down method and task 29 wont work as it is unable to connect. can anyone help....
what "up down method" its not up then down lol if you want to hard reset turn youre phone off press and hold up and down volume buttons and turn the phone on you should get a grey screen then follow instructions, and task 29 will work if you can get in bootloader but why would you want to wipe the mobile if you dont no what you doing?
and the banana game doesnt really give us much insight does it lol

Hi Demon,
I am glad you find this funny but here I am in tears re: the situation. I meant vol up and down for hard reset but its not working bfore turn on. I chose the task 29 as I am desperate and willing to reset to default setting. I did try vol up and down before turning on my mobile and still not working. See below url for the game downloaded but I didn't downloaded from this site I used the omarket. thanks

I wasnt laughing mate, so can you get in bootloader?? (press and hold volume down while turning the phone on keep holding till you get a coloured screen)is you battery charged?

No I can't all i am getting is the RGD screen...
Thanks
what do you mean RGD screen, can you post a pic if you have a camera
try taking the battery cover off, and then press the vol up and vol down together, carefully. Make sure you feel the contact as you press it. I struggled at the beginning to make it wiork. the button isn't really meant to bend at both ends, so it feels like you have them both pressed, but dont.
Once you are confident that both ends are pressed, only then tap and release power to start the phone.
ALl being well, 5 or so seconds later the three coloured screen should come up.
Fingers x'd

I tried again and you are right just a tap on the power as before i think i was pressing too hard on the power button ....now I have a gray screen with the following:
This operation will delete all your personal data ......
What should I do now to avoid losing all data...
Thanks
ok, now dont take this the wrong way mate because everyone has done this, but you must be doing it wrong or not catching the buttons right, if you have someone with you, you're easiest option would be turn your phone on as normal take your battery cover off, press and hold both volume buttons and keep holding them, get someone to press the red button near the batter with a pin, that way you have hold of both volume buttons, keep holding them while the phone is restarting and you should get a different screen come up,
like i said its quite tricky to get it the first time.
you cant not loose anything this is youre only option im affriad, but youre phone will work again

hehe, its a bit of a three handed job. I usualy use a thumb on each vol button, and my top lip to press power, lol.
I think sadly your data is gone. I can't think of a way to save it if the phone wont boot.
Plus, if this banana thing did mess your phone up, you want to be sure its gone.
(A good lesson in syncing your data regularly )
If the hard reset doesn't work, then my next steps would be to task29 from bootloader (volume down and power, dont touch vol up) followed by flashing your stock rom over usb.

In Germany, police arrests you for such a comment
@topic If you have some fancy ROM that enables "wake device under light" check your settings for the light sensor and maybe turn it all off - then it doesn't trouble you.
when i boot to MIUI phone is fine, but when i boot to ICS that strange phenomenon does happen, it could be ROM related.

Major phone lock problem

to simply put the problem if i press the end hang up button which locks the phone when i press it again the touch screen goes out.... screen comes back on but no touch function at all....any body had this problem and i dont think its just android because it happens even when i am in wm6
Happened to me too
So far no luck in resolving this problem (tried different roms, and no luck)
happens when you click the end button repeatedly (was my habit, was using motorola milestone before this)
So now i have to take it slow, and had to make a habit of ending call with the software button instead of the hardware ones (works for me)
With proper discipline i managed to go on for week without hangups. Try it, make sure you dont rush to click the end button
I think everyone has this problem. you cant instantly unlock a device.
It is normal if you repeatedly rush in waking up your hd2. Builds differ only in the length of the lag. You can also try waking it up using the "call" button.

same problem, flashed new rom/radio... nothing helps.
The screen works on the first initial boot in after a restart then i lock it. After that its just a cry-fest.
Someone please help!
When we have nand flashing hopefully this kind of thing will be sorted.
and also once it locks i have to soft reset over and over and over and over till it works again...is their a way i can change it so that when i press the end button it does not lock the phone? or a way i can make the phone go dim but NEVER locks?
I have only had the problem in Android. The simple way to solve this is to turn off the screen again, wait for about 20-30 seconds before turning on the screen. It will be fine again!

Indeed, but that gives bad impression that your phone is unstable.
I normally snatch the phone before they press the end button with the pretense of doing something else lol

The possibility is there - HD2 threads is one of the most popular threads in xda and you could see lots of chef and modders here (finger crossed)
And with NAND flashing, i dont even had to see the dreaded WM6 anymore
Plus i could imagine the speed increase it bring (since the O/S resides in the NAND flash, you could access stuff from the microsd card without stutter)
it's just your android BUILD
you could try switching roms/radio's maybe it's related but I had it in the past, and now I don't, so it's fixable, suggestion? Try and test out new stuff
My sister always says.
"What if you have to call the police! you cant unlock the phone and you get killed."
Thats my main problem with android builds.
=( sad. I sent in to htc today. waiting for response.
Any chance of getting that fixed since last post?

Nexus is Officially Dead :'( -- what to buy now??

Ok fellas. To make a pretty lng story short.. My beloved Nexus One is dead.. ::sadface::
yes im experienced with rooting and all that.. its jus i cant get to the recovery anymore.. it wont turn on (because the power button issue) and when i do the "battery pull out then back in" trick, it goes to the nexus X and stays there.. ive pulled the battery NUMEROUS times.. it still gets on the X and gets stuck..
im rooted with the new MIUI version..
Anyways, when i hold the track ball, when i do the battery trick, it goes to the bootloader screen.. Well, i cant select anything because, again, of the power button issue lol..
so again, when when i pull out the battery and put it back in, it turns on.. but gets stuck at the nexus X...
there is no way i can get to recovery and do what i need to do...
So my question is this...
i prolly need to buy another phone (like in a couple days) i cant wait months.. or weeks to buy the next best thing.. because the nexus is all i have..
--What phone on the market RIGHT now has the capability or more as the Nexus?? Nexus S? i like it, but its from samsung.. I have T-mobile btw.. Any ideas? thanks guys..
oh and is also rootable.. should i jus go ahead and buy another nexus off craigslist?.. your thoughts...
:EDIT: I know a lot of you are saying that i need to go into adb.. well, i dont think that'll work only becaus i have never used that before =/ i used the "Androot One Click Root" to unlock my phone =/
U can still get the phone in download mode. Just try the JIG. its somewhere there in the forums.

I'd buy a Nexus S
While i'd miss the HTC build quality and LED notifications, the Nexus S screen takes a huge dump on the N1 screen, which has always felt more like a prototype OLED display...

It can still utilize the improved 3G and get practical speeds up to 7.2Mbps..... just like the Nexus One.
towards the end of the "X" screen adb commands work. try "adb reboot recovery" continuously.
If you can hold the trackball and do the battery trick, cant you hold vol down and do it booting straight to recovery?
Vol- does not boot straight to recovery, it takes you to HBOOT, so you still need to use the power button.
You can fix the power button by getting a replacement flex cable from eBay for not a lot of cash.
go out and buy a dell streak. it has a five inch screen and runs android. I've made the switch.
Samsung Nexus S is pure ****. Really. What are all those the features that make the phone cost like a Nexus One when it went in the stores one year ago? I'd go for a dual core phone at least. In case wait for some time and in the mean while take a 50$ phone.
I'm in a similar boat. I use 2 nexi and part them together, but the one with the good power button is starting to have volume button problems.only the mt4g and g2 use tmo 4g at the moment and I'm not interested in either.playstation phone looks interesting, but no 4g either.

You using the new MIUI? Don't worry, I had the same problem, take out the battery and put it back, then press volume-down button and press power button. Just select the "Recovery".
From here, if you have done a previous backup of the working ROM, I suggest flash it back. I only manage to get my NexusOne to load the MIUI rom after I did this.
lenrek said:
Same problem. I solve this by:
1. download the kernel separately, and flash the kernel after flash this (MIUI) ROM.
2. reboot the phone.
3. take out the battery while it is showing 'X' and put it back.
4. From there, it starts successfully (after power on).

What part of the power button does not work did you not understand. Unless he can get adb commands to work, he is assed out without a power button. You need a working power button to get into recovery from an off state.

As I said, I had the same problem...
My NexusOne buttons went nuts initially. Take out the battery, and put it back, it will take a bit of time before the phone would boot itself. Just make sure you press the volume-down button 1st, and press the power on button. If you don't, it would stuck at 'X' again.
From here, everything went fine...
Unless TS press the power button too hard until he damaged it, if that is the case, I guess he is too late to read my post.

Dude...the power button is DEAD! Anyhow, your phone isn't a lost case. Follow this guide. Or run PASSIMG.zip, they will restore a stock ROM which you can then use to reboot into recovery and flash again

Well, in this case, my suggestion for new phone would be, HTC Desire HD. If I am buying a new Android phone now.
The next choice would LG series, but I am not too sure about LG...
Hahaha, Ok guys... Yes, my power button is completely non active.. (it does not respond what so ever)..
When i hold down the vol+trackball when after i put the battery in, it takes me to Hboot... (Well, i cant select anything due to the power button)
I will look into that PASS....(.zip) thing i read earlier here in a minute..
What dual-core phone do yall prefer..?

::EDIT:: i cant do that "help thread" that was posted earlier.. there isnt a way i can put ROMS on my Nexus.. if i could, i wouldnt be askin for some help lol.. my nexus wont connect to any command prompt.. smh.. so im basically screwed huh?..
---> Will there be any LEGIT phone out in a month or two? like worth getting?? i.e. dual core, tegra.. etc.. if so, ill jus buy a cheapo, and wait till that phones comes out.. because i need, a phone like my nexus or better before May!.. so im sure there would be the same if not better than our Nexus out by then....
OP I'll sell you my T-Mobile n1. I have to switch back to ATT unfortunately.

Screen wont unlock

Hey, i need help. I know nothiing about these phones. I came on here and got help last year to make my hd2 windows into an android.... i did all the work, wahtever you wanna call it, flashing or ROM. something like that. Well anyways, over the the past few months, its been getting stuck on the unlock screen. nothing works, then all of a sudden it will swipe and unlock. now its been stuck for two weeks and i have tried everything, taking the battery out and resetting from the small button in the back, but nothing changes.

Then once you do above and get the screen working again, you can do what i did and use attached program to remap one of the other buttons (i chose green phone button since i press the phone icon to use the phone anyhow) and remap it to function as the power button and never worry about the screen again
To install: download to computer, then use adb install to install.
Or the simple way, just download straight to phone, navigate to the downloaded folder using a file explorer(astro works well found on the market) and launch it through the file explorer to install.

Yep, I have tried that.... pushing the end button a zillion times. It use to work before, but now it doesnt. I tried the end button, the call button, sliding over the other keys, just tapping on the unlock keys on the screen... but nothing. i do it so much, i pretty much start banging on the keys.....ummm... not sure if that made it worse??
is there anyway i can just reset my phone.... perhaps flash a new rom. I really dont care what is on my phone at this point. phone numbers not saved on sim can be replaced.... i dont care about anything else as far as apps. i just want to be able to use this phone again, whatever it takes. not sure if this is even possible without unlocking the screen first. i am so frustrated i wanna let my rottweiler accidently chew it up, just so i can get a new phone...
i know there is some smarty pants out there that can figure this out... help me pleeeeeeeeeeze!!!!

Nope. Its pretty much hosed. These are classic symptoms of the digitizer cable losing connection with the main board. Pressing the red End key forcefully can sometimes mate the connection back, but otherwise if that doesn't work nothing will. If you're feeling brave, you can take apart the phone piece by piece and reassemble it. That might do the trick. Else, you have to replace the digitizer.
Ok... first of all, what is a digitizer?
Also, is there any way I can connect it to my computer via usb and try to remove the files that i put on there for the rom.... that would just make it a windows phone again. Because Im confused.... is this a phone malfunction or a file issue?

Can you get to the bootloader (stripey screen)? If so, then just flash a stock WinMo ROM from there and it should work.
Well I am able to restart the phone after I take the battery out. So there is a point at the startup while its loading, it says 1-2-3-4 Go Go Go. Not sure if there is anything I can from there.
Oh btw... for a brief few minutes yesterday, the phone did unlock. I got so excited that I started reading all my text messages I missed over the passed 2 weeks and also reviewing missed phone calls. And by that time, the phone locked again. No luck since.

You can eitherdownload to computer, the use adb install to install the program, or download to your phone and use a file browser to navigate to your downloads and install from there. Downloading to your phone is probably the easiest for beginners.
