Moisture detector - myTouch 3G Slide General

Now, this is confusing me. Take the battery cover of your phone, and look at the bottom right corner. Where the other corners have screws, on this corner there's a small little black circle that says VOID in white letters. Is this a moisture detector? For warranty exchanges and such? Because honestly, I've never gotten my phone wet. I was at a rock concert yesterday and I did notice sweat dripping onto my phone screen when I would look at it but I don't think this was enough to set off moisture detectors? specially if I wiped it off before it even got internally into the phone..

my guess is its so they know you didnt unscrew the phone and open it

Oh f*ck me. Thanks man.

They all have it. What it means is your warranty is void if that sticker is off, only reason for it to be off is if you took it off to remove the screw to take apart the phone. The moisture detectors are white and turn pink when wet.

not only does every slide have it but every electronic device. sony psp's have them the g1 the mytouch the sony xperia.
its a tamper seal. only broke when taking apart the device (voids warrenty)
the white circle stickers UNDER the battery and INSIDE the phone as said are the water detector
you can buy both stickers on ebay if you really need to fix your device (broken screen) and return it for a new or reman

Yeah, thanks guys my last phone had it, and it was a sidekick LX that I had gotten wet, and I figured it's VOID sticker was a moisture detector somehow.

Some of the slides have them in a different location. Mine is near the SIM tray under the battery. Weird

Warranty service for Cingular (AT&T) 8525

I have the cingular 8525 and having lots of issues I want to send it in for warranty but I just noticed I have the VOID sticker showing on the inside. I never had water spill on it could it be related to moisture its in my pocket most of the time?
Anyway know how to get it replaced under warranty with VOID showing its never been wet, maybe dropped on carpet few times but no damage.
void shows on mine too.. they arent concerned with that sticker they are looking for the one under the sim..
VOID showing is normal. It's on mine as well as the refurbished which they sent.
it has to show void..if it gets wet it changes color, plus under the void sticker there is a screw.so they know you didn't open the inside to play when you re bored.haha
Actually, the VOID sticker is important. It covers a screw hole. If you open the device, you will rip that sticker. It detects "intrusion".
The one under the SIM (as stated above) is the moisture detector. Both important, but different functions.
opps. suppose to click Yes. I voted wrong. Sorry. It shows on mine too and I bought mine brand new.

As others have said - that sticker is meant to say void. It is not the thw water detector one. The one that you see is the one that breaks up into small pieces if you remove it to take out the screw that lies underneath. So if you are seeking a warranty repair then you want to have that sticker in place and unbroken with the word void showing.

perfect thank you all, AT&T is being a pain and not wanting to replace my phone even though the keyboard keys are sticky etc. I hardly use it but the phone was refub the one I got from then in 45 days just DIED and wouldn't work properly they sent me a refub one and it was a problem from day one but I was traveling so I needed a phone for work.
Oh well hope I can get someon else this time that can help me.
How would one go about obtaining a replacement void sticker? I had a horrible screen protector incident with a nushield shield where something got trapped between it and the screen, rendering the touch screen unusable. The normal methods to remove the screen protector failed, so I started to disassemble. I only got the void screw removed, no others.. as it seems they used different torx screw sizes and the T6 I bought for working on cell phones only fit a couple. Nothing was ever actually apart, but of course the sticker is punctured. I don't want to be screwed if something ever goes wrong with the phone. Hell I don't even use my AT&T Tilt anymore, it's slower than any phone I currently own (it's obviously the only one with WinMo Pro).
I'd like to just get a new void sticker, get rid of the phone, and move on with my life.

Under battery cover

What are all the black stickers for under the battery cover that seem to cover nothing? They are lodged in the case in some places and seem to be lined with metal. I hope they weren't important.
They may be the stickers that change color if the phone gets wet. This is how the service people tell you that your warranty is void if you drop your phone in your coffee .

No, there's a white and pink surface under the cover near the charger for that.
Simple - to keep you from opening the phone. You remove them, you void your warrenty.
No they are the black ones and do not cover any crack's, they are part of the antenna. I tried pulling the rest out from the case and they are attached. Not only that but I now get NO signal. Off to the Verizon store. Do not remove them you will regret it!

This is the first phone I have ever broken. You see the print that says SD Card right above where your card goes in? Ya that is printed on a sticker and if you follow it it goes back into your phone and you can peal off all of it but it won't come out of the little slot it feeds into because it is attached to the board as the antenna. You live you learn, didn't cost me anything to replace they were puzzled that my phone seemed to be in perfect working order except that I had no signal. I took a small screwdriver and pushed the rest of the sticker that I couldn't pull out back into the case so they wouldn't see it. I had to do everything I could to keep from laughing.
If you read the first post the stickers have a metal insert in them, that is your antenna.

Anyone open the bottom? My USB port has been sort of spread too wide and it's loose.

I was thinking maybe I could take off that bottom "HTC" cover and gently pinch the sleeve of the USB connector back together. Anyone successfully done this?
Thanks!
this is exactly why i use the dock & WANT the car dock..
It just pops off, Google for a tear down.
I'm in the middle of taking mine apart to clean dust from the screen. Can't get a warranty replacement cause the phone is rooted. The bottom piece is a real pain to take off, but can be done with some patience. Just make sure to use a plastic tool and not a screwdriver. I used the ifixit teardown guide and a youtube teardown guide.
Quick question, how long was it before you got dust under the screen? Also did you notice any signs such as the screen not being totally flush with the housing? I really need to know because I'd like to root my N1 but it's only been a month. Also from what I've seen around the forum there is a gentlemen that can help you get a warranty from HTC but idk about now that you've opened the phone

Did you try to get a replacement and were refused because you are rooted or did you not try because you knew you would be refused?

Had my phone a couple months before I noticed any dust. The bottom left corner (where there was dust) seems like maybe it's sealed as 100% as the other corners, but nothing obvious at all and no clicking sound type stuff that others have reported. I posted some pictures in the dust thread.

I told them I'd rooted and they guy said my warranty was void. Said I could send it in and there's a chance that they would take it, but also that they could charge me for a board swap, which is $196. He couldn't give me a certain answer how it would be handled. Said that they take care of the warranty service in their Houston location, which wasn't where he was at, so he couldn't find out for sure.
I have dust on the side of my screen. One white speck just to annoy me. I wouldnt mess with taking it apart in fear that i might add even more dust underneath

I dont get why people are doing this. If it was me, I'd keep quiet about the bootloader's status and see if they notice.
It's not like you can hide the telltale padlock.. It's there for a reason. HTC made it easy too see if you voided the warranty.
Indeed you can't, but the technicians may not care, or even be paying attention when it boots up and miss it, or even not bothering to turn it on for something like a dusty screen.

I was told that if they notice, they'd likely charge my card $196 to replace the main PCB. The other alternative was that they'd call me back and tell me the warranty was void and send my original phone back and have me send back the replacement. Either way, I have to wait til that all plays out before I could root the replacement phone and get it set back up like my original. Instead, I spent two hours with the phone I've got and the screen looks like new.

I appreciate the response I'll check it out, I am just extremely worried. At the same time, I have never had my phone replaced. I usually just work on them myself for all those simple problems. I don't know that my screen is sealed properly, it clicks occasionally but hasn't been lately. But it definitely doesn't sit flush with the right side..

50 bucks for a standard micro USB port? That's daylight robbery, any electronics supplier will have for peanuts!

Void sticker under battery cover (lower left corner)

I just received a new phone from verizon because the USB port on my old one was wacky. I noticed that the void sticker on my old one is black, and the sticker on my new one is red. Is this one of those stickers that changes color with water damage? If so, which color is it supposed to be?
The one they sent me is a refurb, so I want to make sure I didn't get one that will prevent me from getting warranty work done in the future. I also want to know in case the old one supposedly had water damage, because I have to bring it back tomorrow.
Mine's black.

And yours hasn't been subjected to any water, right?
EDIT: also, this is already ranked in the top 5 on google when I search for "HTC void sticker black"
Holy fast indexing batman!
that sticker isnt for water damage, its for disassemble void. you have to poke through that with a torx screwdriver in order to take all four screws out for pulling the phone apart (repairs typically). that way they know if you took apart your phone to modify or whatever else, voiding your warranty.
That's what I thought at first, but the fact that they were different colors threw me off.
Must have been an aesthetic design change

You're welcome.
i just started working for google and this made me chuckle so i thought i'd say hi. BTW I just repair the computers so i dont know anything much bout android, but i do plan on learning.
the stickers that check for water contact are cross hatched red lines until it wet, then it goes solid red.
The less publicized void sticker shortage of the droid incredible.

Hah, I just received a new Incredible today myself. The old void sticker was black, but this one's green! They must have run out of the red ones for mine I guess.
I've sent a lot of phones into Verizon in the past and they & Asurion both have told me that they don't care about void stickers... I wouldn't worry about it...

S4 Got Barely wet now part of the screen wont respond.

We were on a boat but all of our phones were in box for phones and none got wet at all except mind of course. some how it got a tad bit of moisture in the camera and little on top by ear piece...Now only half the screen works....What could be the problem? First to do at low cost is to dry it in dry air and température set at below 50°C for 24 H.
Back cover and battery removed.
Check if your kitchen oven is well regulated to perform this task at thermostat 0 or 1. (was my case at first position)
If not, put it under the afternoon sun if such in your country and take care of the rain!!!.
Then , no effect, go to service.
Go to service, chances are the liquid indicators didn't get triggered.
