Any time you get an OTA update, you have to re-root. Just do the same root process you did before to get root and you'll be fine again.

Just throwing this out there, give it another go? That sounds like a cruel thing to say to someone who Im sure has been trying but maybe just maybe....... I am hoping it works for you becuase I rooted without taking the update first and now I am stuck with that dang warning notification and would like the newest firmware anyways. Good luck.

that bootloader thing is about a ***** huh?

EDIT!
I just accepted the update after restoring the files I deleted from system/app and of course lost my root, but it took all of 2 minutes to redo the root process and now all is well in root world. Taz, you should be able to reroot with no problem.

Get permission denied. Is this normal for the droid?
I have the eris also. And can use adb commands.sorry if this is stupid

Should be able to use adb commands. Battery pull, then try again? Not sure, assuming you rooted from your computer, adb should be set up correctly, but now you can't use adb? But if you didn't use that computer to root then just need to follow the steps to set it up

Does unrooting the phone actually let you run the update because currently I am not able to run the update successfully and I am rooted. (I had removed some stock apks but have since replaced them all accept for the need for speed apk)
Also to unroot your self just delete superuser.apk?

Anyone tried this? Just curious im already rooted just maily would like it to unroot.
sent from LG Dare lol
It worked great for me, I rooted with it, tried a few root only apps...then I unrooted with it to see if it works, and it worked...then I rooted again so I can use those root only apps.
worked for me. painless, and quick. total time....less than 5 minutes.

Really Works? The Rooted Apps too?
Does this really work and do the rooted apps function? Why does this work and the bootloader has not been cracked? Cunfused....
And now there's this too.
I cant seem to get this to work. I downloaded the file, went and clicked root me and it just sits there. How long does it normally take
If that's all you did, then you need to reread the instructions. I'm sure it clearly states to toggle Bluetooth or wifi. I don't want to burn anyone but in my opinion, if you can't follow instructions maybe you shouldn't be rooting your phone.

I have not rooted my X yet because the only thing i need it for is wifi tether and adblocker, i dont really need the custom ROMs. will i still be able to do this once my phone has received the update, if not will they develop a root for phones that have been updated via OTA

You cannot currently root a 2.2 device (unless you upgraded with that update.zip to 2.2 and moved SU), but I m sure that it will come sooner rather than later

My speaker on the back of my droidx is blown i need to take it to verizon. How do i get rid of superuser permissions app in app drawer? I rooted with universal androot. I was told you have to remove it first then unroot. So i looked for it in app manager to delete it but its not there. I tried unrooting it still not there. Rooted it back still not there. how to root a droid x 2.2
I have tried many rooting methods and I found Z4root 1.3.apk to be the fastest and easiest way to root. If and when you use this app it starts looping and doesn't finish you simply perform a battery pull and retry the permanent root using z4root 1.3 again and it will work the second time. You may need to try a third time but in rare cases.
sorry for the super late reply. Yeah I mean like a Rom.

Why do people ask that? Once you root, you can have ANY version of stock rom. Or run less stock roms. It's all win.No, you shouldn't recieve OTA updates once you've flashed. But root users will have whatevers pushed OTA long beforehand. Plus you can over/underclock, screen capture, do backups, and run RealHDMI with root.

Just received notification to update my XOOM what if I am rooted...

If I go through the install what would happen? Would it even allow me? I thought that if you were rooted you would not receive the notification. I just don't want to take that chance to try it and brick my XOOM. I also do not want to relock it and that wipes it to return to stock.
well if I would guess, since I haven't received an update notification yet, it will probably update just fine, but could remove root. Since it is an unlocked device, if it is unrooted by the update, it shouldn't break the ability to root.
tl:dr it's probably safe
So did you update?

What did you test to see that you're still rooted? Just running Superuser makes it appear I'm still rooted yet I get 'permission denied' when running su in terminal and any program that relies on root can't get root access.
Was a quick fix though, just had to run the line 'adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su'
Ok, just to let you guys know that I had lost root when I did the update. All I had to do was re-root my XOOM and everything is good to go now I have root access to SetCPU and RootExplorer
Just received ota also and I'm rooted. Same thing happened with me, still unlocked but lost root. Hopefully all releases go this way

Rooting for 2.3.3

TBH is in the process of right now releasing a leaked Moto build of Gingerbread 2.3.3. As of right now, they have been unable to root it, as all known root methods appear to no longer work. Anyone want to tackle it?
obviously not gonna be easy....if TBH can't do it.. I doubt anyone can
Don't think anything is impossible. They just got the release yesterday. It sometimes takes a collaboration of several devs to get root.
If my download ever finishes I gonna try like hello and throw everything I have at it. Lol.

That will soft-brick the phone and you'll have to SBF from RSDLite. You can't install any other zips directly after installing a ROM or it won't pass the signature verification on reboot.

well the nexus s/one use a method which requires the bootloader to be unlocked in order to obtain root so technically speaking they are the same in this case
so far though i have been reading about a gingerbreak exploit from the same guy who released rageinthecage exploit

Yes, you can but it's a pain in the butt. Go to this thread and then download the original stock firmware. Make sure USB debugging is turned on also.
To install the file you need to have HTC Sync installed and running. Double-click the file and it should recognize the phone and start installing after some input from you.
If you get a USB error, try booting into the bootloader and installing the exe in the same manner.
I just did this last night because I was in the same situation. It works.
Now you can re-root.

You guys can get into the bootloader right? Take one of those modified "official" updates, rename it to PG06IMG.zip and flash it from the bootloader. Then do my first post and flash to Froyo so you can root again. May be worth a shot.
