i'm not a developer but i had an idea for a tweak/app that would be useful to me and hopefully a lot of other people. I just came home from a vacation and took a ton of pictures with my Evo and grew frustrated by the lack of a dedicated camera button. i was wondering if it would be possible to make one of the volume buttons take the picture. I would want this only when the camera app is open of course. I know the volume buttons can be re-routed because of how they are used to scroll up and down through web pages in the Dolphin HD browser. Can anyone tell me if this would be possible or if its already been done? i've done some research into this and didn't come up with anything. I thought i would ask the great group of developers we have here at PPCG. Thanks everyone!!! (HTC Evo)
+1 Was just looking for something like this.
Searching everywhere for this. Alot of people would appreciate it!
This is a great idea! I'm surprised it hasn't been done on the EVO yet. At least I haven't seen any App/hack that can make the EVO do this. I hope it's possible and I hope someone can make it happen. Fingers crossed.
I like the idea...but have a slightly different motive. I'm on an X which has a dedicated camera button, however, when I'm using it as an audioplayer in my pocket, while it's possible for me to turn the volume up and down with the rocker, I can't actually pause the audio...so I plan to find a way to re-route one of the buttons somehow to be a play/pause button...

This would make things easier. Sometimes you feel you didnt touch the screen right or hard enough, this would take care of that. +1

This is already available via the Camera Zoom FX app on the market. Not free, but is there. However I have found that it is buggy as hell.
Bugs I have noticed:
1. Pictures won't save. It's like they are stored in the cache. You take a picture, go to gallery to view it and it won't be there. If you reboot the phone it will be.
2. The "FX" don't always work. There are several effects that come stock with the app. They frequently don't do what they are supposed to or won't load at all. I have found that you can exit the program via the back buttons and then start it again to get the FX to load, but even that has stopped working.
3. It actually asks you to download Task Killer the first time you open the app. Going on about camera apps using memory and all. So in other words it has a memory leak and instead of fixing it they want you to manually kill the task.
It does what some in this thread are asking for. However I wouldn't suggest you buy it.
First - Is there anyway of turning off the fade in ring tone? Anytime someone calls me and I have it set to ringer the ring tone I have selected whether its a default or custom one doesn't start ringing right away it fades in.
Second - Anyway of disabling the zoom buttons in the default browser? I find them to be completely unnecessary.
Thanks.
Bump.
Really guys? no one has noticed this?
Please, I too wud lk to know abt the fade in ringtone. I hate it.

Thanks. Looks like samsung made some poor choices with touch wiz, feels rushed or just half assed.
Regarding the first, I thought I read somewhere that samsung put that functionality there so a user doesn't get a blaring sound right after ending a call. The fade is just enough time for t the user to move the phone away from his/her ear. Maybe someone can confirm?
I agree with #2

I was just going to post the same question. Couldn't figure it out either.
I dont mind the fade, it saved me a couple times at work, at my job we are not suppose to have cell phones on, so it gives me a grace period to rush and hit the volume button.
Im just wondering how long we have to wait until media hub is unlocked...
Fade? as in the music starts out low and then gets louder? That didn't bother me.
i agree with number 2. they are pretty useless with pinch to zoom.
I personally like the fade in ring. I hate my buddies phones that ring louder than hell from the start and they just sit there and stare at it. I mean answer the [email protected]#$ phone already.
With the fade in I hear it and I can pick it up before its annoying. I guess I consider myself respectable when I'm at a restaurant or at a gathering. Heck I don't even have music playing just a basic ringer because I don't pretend to be a rap star with my own music playing in the background to let everybody know I'm there.
The forced pinch to zoom on the browser is annoying as heck thou.
The fade in ringtone has been on cellphones for years and is probably some sort of safety regulation the US imposes, like mandatory camera shutter sounds. Samsung is free of blame from this issue at least.
I prefer the fade. It prevents me from crapping my pants whenever I get a phone call.

Try zooming in / out with one hand using pinch to zoom. Yeah.
I was so happy when I saw that this phone had the fade in ringtone.. I rather have the phone in vibrate, but in case I'm walking or something and miss the vibration, I start hearing it and I can get the call... otherwise, the ringtone is for me to get the call, not for everyone at work or anywehre else to know my phone is ringing

for me the pinch to zoom is just an iphone novelty. I prefer the zoom buttons because it will zoom the text to fit the page. I only use the pinch to zoom because its cool looking not because its actually that functionable.
Hello all my Nexus 4 stops playing a song sometimes and when I turn on the screen it "flickers" a lot also I am using a Lockscreen Pattern for security... when the song stops it would change to camera to music app in the lockscreen I really don't know how to explain it.. also I am using Poweramp and sometimes Google Play Music both have the same problem...
I am running 4.2.2 jelly bean anyone know how to fix this? also the screen will not respond...
I have a screenshot of it...
Its something like this..... thank you
Stock Jellybean on the N4, or a custom rom jellybean?
Were you able to get a logcat when it happens, might help some rom devs figure out why it's doing it. (if I had to make a guess, I'd say some kind of wake lock issue, but you'd think google play music would know better)

That is weird, guess you'll just need to pre-suffle a playlist I guess.
I used to get the visual glitches too until I installed dashclock with the music extension. Annoyingly it doesn't actually provide play/pause/skip functionality but it gets rid of the glitches and that's good enough for me since my headphones allow the rest. I never had the random stopping issue though. At least you've found a decent solution for now.

All,
Does anyone know if there's a way to make it when using the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge so that when I'm using a certain DESIGNATED app that the phone would let me BYPASS fingerprint security as long as I'm using that designated app?
For example, let's say I start listening to music on my S7 Edge using the Poweramp music app. While the app is playing my music, let's say the screen turns off (or I turn it off). When I push the Power button in order to wake the screen back up, if I'd selected Poweramp to be a designated app, the phone would skip the fingerprint security measure altogether and just unlock itself.
IS there a setting that can make this happen? If not, is there an APP that can do this?? Please let me know. It would just be nice like when I'm driving if I didn't have to deal with the extra security measure.
Thank You,
RockStar2005
Maybe you could just use the inbuilt feature smart lock? Don't think you can use it for specific apps though it.

mklass,
What do you mean? How do I get to that?
Well if any developers reading this think they can create an app that would accomplish this, please feel free to do so. I would DEFINITELY pay for such an app if one was ever made.
Thanks!
Well I'm using a nexus 5 at the moment and there's a feature called smartlock in settings.
It allows you to bypass security based on certain things like location, if your phones in your pocket, if you connect to a Bluetooth device or a WiFi connection.
I have pattern lock on my phone but as soon as I get home and connect to my WiFi it bypasses my secuiry and I don't have to enter my patten lock, same when I get in my car and connect to my Bluetooth car system.
I think what you're asking for is a custom lockscreen app that will allow you to black list certain apps so that if the app was the last app used before the screen turned off, the lockscreen app would either auto unlock or ask for the security pin check.
It's possible you maybe able to do such a think using Tasker once you can root the s7e.
Tasker can enable and disable the lockscreen depending on what app is in the foreground and so if your music app is active, then Tasker will disable the lockscreen, which when your screen turns off, there will be no lockscreen when you turn it on next, and if you activate an app not on your tasker conditions list, then Tasker will re-enable the lockscreen again (accessibility & root required for sure).
but of course you will need to know that your phone security won't be as good.

Oh ok. I know exactly what you mean now, and yes, the S7 Edge DOES have that feature. I don't have bluetooth in my car so I'm not sure how I do it.
There is a Smartlock option called On-body detection that keeps it unlocked as long as it feels it's being held or is kept upright, but when it is laid down it locks up. Problem is, when I lay it down and let the screen turn off, it still doesn't lock the phone. Ughh!
Sorry that didn't do what you needed buddy

Thanks for that info. That sounds like what I'm looking for, but if it requires a root, I'll have to pass. lol I rooted my HTC One M8 a couple years ago, and it was kinda cool at first, but it's not worth the headache. I really wish someone would make an app that would do what Tasker does but NOT require rooting. Oh well.

Neutron can bypass the lockscreen
Edit: picture added. And it only lets you access neutron, you'll have to input you fingerprint to access any other app. I much prefer neutron to Poweramp for quality and depth of customization too.

yeah root does have its negatives, but the option is yours to just change only what you need, applying root doesn't change anything on your phone instantly, it just unlocks the doors, its up to you if you want to open any of them

is it the actual main Neutron music app screen interface? or is it a lockscreen widget of the app? I'd say disabling the lockscreen would be pretty impossible for a non superuser app. if in fact it is possible, then hopefully tasker could be coded to do the same

It's not as user friendly because it's for professionals. You can literally get lost in the settings. The developers are amazing, its updated often. If rich features and customization are important to you then it's the best music player for you. And afaik it's the only app that can load it's UI before the lockscreen, music player or otherwise.
Edit: and yes it sounds better and is infinitely more tunable than Poweramp. It's the only media player with 64bit decoding. Really, if you're serious about music then get it and spend some time learning about the settings. The possibilities are endless.

sonhy,
I just tried Neutron and it WORKS!!! I applied the "Lock Screen" setting (I don't want Wake Lock b/c it will keep screen on forever, and Power Lock keeps it on if it's plugged in, which I don't want either).
Only thing is, is it known to be buggy? I heard the UI wasn't as good as Poweramp's but that it sounds better, but twice in the last 10 minutes the app froze on me. Not 100% I will keep it but maybe.
Thanks so much again!!

No I got the full paid version a while ago but never really used it. I'll give it more time, but it does what I wanted it to........... it comes up IN FRONT OF the fingerprint scan request on the lock screen. It's not bypassing it, but getting in front of it is basically the same thing. Very cool!
The UI actually isn't that bad once you give it a chance. I need to spend more time with it though, and I would like to compare it with Poweramp for my own knowledge. I've always been interested in music (I play guitar as well). But I have in the last 15-16 mos gotten really into Hi-Fi listening......... including Hi-Res music, using a premium amp/DAC (the Oppo HA-2), and premium headphones as well (the AKG K553). I HIGHLY recommend both! I'd tried the HA-2 against other devices that cost twice as much, and it sounded just as good as them. The K553 I'd pitted against like $400 headphones, and it sounded BETTER than all of them!
With the HA-2 in the mix, I'm not AS concerned about the sound quality of the app on headphones, although the sound is better when I use the better apps vs. like the stock player. But in my car, I'm not using the HA-2, so the greater the sound quality the better!
2 questions for now..........
1) Does 64-bit processing REALLY make a difference? I will test it myself but still good to hear other's opinions.
2) Is there an option like what Poweramp has where Neutron will stop playing when a phone call comes in, and then resume once the call ends? If so, where exactly is it?
Thanks!

Ok I'll test it out tonight perhaps and see if I notice a difference. First I want to compare Neutron to Poweramp. I'll keep 64-bit on for that because I wanna hear how they both sound when at their BEST settings. (EQ will be off on both.)
Ok awesome! Does it also stop when the GPS speaks in the car? I kinda prefer it NOT to stop (Poweramp lets you decide this), but if it does, that's fine.
Thanks!

I have wondered about this, too. In fact, it seems to me that Samsung's always on display (AOD) feature is quite severely limited, to the point that I question it has value that exceeds its cost in battery life.
I like my S7 Edge device very much, but I also own a Droid Turbo 2 (basically the same device as the Motorola Moto X Force), and having become accustomed to the exceptionally useful features of its version of an AOD (called Moto Display), I can scarcely believe Samsung's engineers weren't embarrassed to release their flagship's analogous feature, having surely seen their competitor's version.
On the Motorola device, the Moto Display screen only comes on when you look at it or it detects activity in front of the screen.
Unlike Samsung's implementation, Moto Display reacts fully to touch, allowing the following interactions:
* initiate a screen unlock
* view icons of apps that have unseen notifications
* touch an icon to see a preview of the app's notifications
* drag an icon to a notification to initiate an interaction with the notification
It may not seem clear how this works, so here is an example of a frequent use case for me:
We frequently binge-watch various Netflix series on TV via a Chromecast, using my phone as the Netflix controller. When credits roll on an episode, I reach for the device and the Moto Display comes on. One of the icons will be a black and white version of the Netflix icon. I touch the icon, and a Netflix play-control appears at the top of the screen. I drag the Netflix icon to the forward-arrow ("next episode") on the Netflix control. The next episode instantly queues and begins to play on the TV. I move my hand away from the phone and its screen returns to the off state.
This whole process takes about 3 seconds, and is accomplished in a single smooth motion from start to finish. The first time I did it, I instantly appreciated how well thought out this particular user interface design was.
Another way in which the Moto feature excels is that third party app support is pretty much indistinguishable from first party apps, unlike Samsung, where some of the AOD and Edge features are limited to Samsung and affiliate apps.
I really hope Samsung doesn't rest on their laurels here, and continues to improve the Touchwiz AOD experience. They have a long way to go to match their competitor's similar feature, in my opinion.

I don't think it's unreasonable to hope for a more robust implementation at some point. If people go online and post about what they like and don't like, hopefully it is helpful for manufacturers and developers to gauge the demand for things they may be working on or thinking about developing in the future.
And I'm not at all sure I share your opinion about what Samsung intends as the ultimate boundaries and limitations of their always on display feature. Maybe they just ran out of time and had to settle for something less than they would eventually like to offer.

Try XTouchwiz or Physical Button Music Control.
The first should work in theory if you freeze stock music app, and the second used to allow (it's been a couple months since I used it) to select which app would the "next/prev" action be directed to.

It is actually a Grace UI AOD thing, but Grace UI is not on the S7E unless you have Nougat of course. My N7 has Grace UI and it has the much better AOD options you just showed.
Using the device almost a year and never heard of it before. I wonder what else I haven't explored yet
