Droid 2 vs Droid X - Droid 2 General

This is just a curiosity question,
What will the differences be?
I know that droid 2 has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and will probably ship with 2.2, but spec wise, will it be identical to the droid x?

Droid 2 will also only have a 5 mp camera and thus far hd video has not been listed as a feature.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

The screen is also supposed to still be 3.7" as opposed to our 4.3"

Droid 2 does not have HDMI either.
CPU and RAM are the same as the Droid X though.
I ended up going with the X myself. I've never been a fan of touch typing, but it's a breeze on this phone. The screen is so large that it makes hitting the right keys very simple.

2 more differences; D2 comes with an 8GB card and the face buttons are touch, not physical.

Sigh, Motorola does some artificial product differentiation and keyboard fans get shafted again.

I didn't bother mentioning the internal memory, since there's no difference. Also, though HD video doesn't seem possible with the D2, somebody could enable it later. It's been done before...

Selling my Epic to my brother as soon as it releases. He hates phones without keyboards so I am selling him my mint Epic for cheap in exchange for his upgrade eligibility.
Finally get to own a Nexus. I'm pumped!
I really want this phone. I was hoping they would add a MicroSD slot. That may be a deal breaker for me....
If this phone had 32 gig internally instead of 16 gig, then I could live without the MicroSD slot....

Exact copy of the GSM Nexus S except for the CDMA/EVDO/WIMAX
Fromg the google blog:
It features a 4” Contour Display designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and along the side of your face. It also features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, front and rear facing cameras, 16GB of internal memory, and NFC (near field communication) hardware that lets you read information from everyday objects that have NFC tags.
In addition, today we’re excited to announce that Sprint customers will soon be able to take advantage of the full set of Google Voice features without changing or porting their number.

Because its a Google supported phone / Google dev phone. All software comes 100% from Google directly. Samsung doesn't touch the software. It will get almost all future updates until the hardware cant handle the software. The Nexus One, which is pretty damn old now, just recently got official Gingerbread, and will likely get Ice Cream.
Yea but what he meant is...
Thanks to the hardware similarities we wont be far behind them in updates so why pay all that money for basically the same phone w/o a keyboard when all these Beastly phones are about to be released it would be a waste to get hardware that is outdated by the time its even for sale 8)
I personally hate physical keyboards now. Mine is just wasted, unused bulk.
True Google software is worth it for me. Dual core CPU's aren't even close to being utilized in smartphones yet anyway. Not until apps/software are written to support them.
The Hummingbird can still hold its own.

All true, but i'm still waiting to see the power of the battery and it's internal storage. The only major things i like about this phone is that it's pure android and that it will release with ICS. If the battery is weak and the internal storage is low, i'm either get the SGSII or wait til something else comes out, cause i got a feeling the Galaxy Nexus is gonna be waaaaaay overpriced for pretty much the same specs as the SGSII, but with ICS(which is nice, but i can wait for the release on the atrix or SGSII) plus it's goin to Verizon first and i'm with At&T soooo........

i don't have a problem with the camera being 5mp, now with the processor stratax cleared that up for me, but no sd card slot, and a 1750mAh battery is gonna disappoint a lot of people just like the nexus s, which is a great phone but could've been better with an sd card slot for people like me that store a lot of music, videos, etc on their phone. My atrix replaced every other device i had(ipod, digital cam, psp) with the 48gbs it holds. But i do believe the Galaxy Nexus will be a great device, just missing a few things

as for the camera that is true, mp are marketing pretty much. software can make it look better than 99% of 8-12mp cameras out there. hahaha there is no sdcard slot? so many people didnt get the nexus s because of that. you'd think they would learn.. that is the same reason i didnt get the sensation because of low storage. i use my atrix as the same. most of it is music and games lol. which takes up a ton. how can a company make a entertainment device with low storage -_- unless it has like 64gb of storage i wont be happy with it. maybe 32 would be fine but still, im sure it will be expensive.
Am I wasting my time thinking AT&T will subsidize the version with their bands?

I will reply. One X is a huge difference, both in speed and screen. The keyboard is not needed with such big screen. When u turn the keyboard to landscape, u get a keyboard with three times bigger buttons. I got a model without WiFi troubles, screen issues etc. The phone is very fast and Sense 4.0 is great. It's rooted, running Charmeleon. The bad things is the battery and no SD-card slot. Games like GTA III don't lags, even with graphics on max.
(And yes, I want a cookie.)

Bull****. My ROMS wasn't good, and someone can take over these ROMs, I don't need these. Just noticed a bug on One X while it's over +40 C. The glass under HTC logo will become hot, and it's not good
I also took the step forward to the One X. Got three faulty devices which I had to return... really bad Quality control by HTC. I'm also very annoyied by HTC's S-ON policy. Now I'm thinking of giving my good old DZ another half a year and see what google presents in fall.

Agreed - but in my case I can cope with the 24gb etc of onboard storage, and I am pinning my battery hopes on a case with built in battery using the pogo pins on the back. (its shipping from Hong Kong right now).
Incidentally, I did read somewhere that theoretically in the same way that the battery case uses the pogo pins, such a case in future may be able to incorporate a card reader. probably wishful thinking though.

So I'm expecting to see everyone there, except for the suckers that bought an EVO LTE.
Also I might just hold on a little longer until they get LTE here:
Sprint has been rolling out its 4G LTE network, beginning in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Kansas City, and Waco, Texas. More cities are expected to get the release soon. Next up, Sprint plans to bring its 4G service to Baltimore, Gainesville, Ga., Manhattan/Junction City, Kan., and Sherman-Denison, Texas, before Labor Day.
The service provider expects to complete its 4G LTE network rollout by the end of 2013.
Depending how much it cost off contact I might buy one to play with. I should have a job by then. If I don't then... Idk what I'm doing with my life lol

It looks good. I like the Specs. But it's the whole thing of it being a Motorola Device that kills it for me. Plus the Locked Down Bootloader BS. Not something I think I want to get into if I can avoid it. Holding out for an HTC QWERTY KB Device :fingers-crossed: . To all those that say it's not going to happen I say look around. A whole lot of people were saying there would be no more QWERTY KB Devices released by manufacturers. But here we are with about 6-8 Devices that have been released across the various carriers, and manufacturers . So I'm going to try and hold out.

Locked down bootloader? We are lucky to even have s-off on HTC. I was trying to get us a working copy of CM9/CM10 but it's more trouble than it's even worth unless sparksco comes through at this point. NewSense is king on this phone. HTC should send dread7us, onelove420, and drob311 a zillion dollars for fixing their broken out of the box phone.
You know I just got a TF300T and I Don't even care about root anymore because it just works.

True enough NewSense is BA, so are all the other Roms that Team has dropped for that matter :good: . They are all Extremely talented Devs . I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say that we are very lucky to have had them on the Shift. Yes we are fortunate enough to have S-Off on the Shift. But then again it just seems that it's alway slightly easier to achieve that with HTC Devices vs most others.

Samsung phone's are extremely easy to root and have better dev support than htc imo

Doesn't seem like a very big list. But good to know they're at least trying.

IDK about better Dev support. If anything I'd say it's about even.
Oh and BTW as if to re-iterate my point about manufacturers still making QWERTY KB Devices. Found THIS on the Android Police website.
Just stumbled across THIS , apparently they want a good launch. They're offering it for $150 if you Pre-Order.
Oh and yet another QWERTY KB Device from Sprint announced HERE.
The 3 keyboard phones that are going to launch are:
Kyocera - Low
LG - Medium
Motorola - Top
Considering that is 3 keyboard phones I somehow doubt sprint is going to release another one for at least a year unfortunately
To add to that, an HTC keyboard phone is unlikely because HTC has been pretty much anti keyboard for a while. The only keyboard phones they made were ones they were contracted in advanced to make.
Also notice a coincidence in HTC heavily dropping in profit ever since they stopped making keyboard phones >.>

Sad to see HTC moving away from KB phones. I owned a TP2 and an Evo Shift and loved them both.
I really like the Photon and will PROBABLY order it but have two concerns:
1. Battery. Says "embedded" and it's only 1780mAH. A little small and not replaceable??? Galaxy SIII has 2000mAH and it's swappable.
2. Memory. Didn't see an SD card slot and internal memory is 8GB. Is that correct? Hope not...
From what I've read 8gb is correct on the internal memory but it does have a micro sd slot. I didn't see what that can be expanded to but 32gb is pretty standard. As for the 8gb internal memory, I have a 2gb partition on my micro sd card and I've never come close to using even 1gb. Just sayin'.

Edit: according to this it does expand to 32g.

Thanks for the clarification. The Sprint site did not show an SD slot so that's good news! Still concerned about the "embedded" battery. I like the option of battery swapping when I need to and most android phones support this capability.

Well if it will handle a 32GB SD Card according to them. Then it should handle a 64GB SD Card with no issues. Reason I say this is because I've already run a 64GB SDHC Micro SD Card on the Shift for over a month with Zero Issues. Same goes for the OG EVO 4G. The card wasn't mine, so I had to give it back :crying: . But it's nice to know that it works on the Shift, and EVO :cyclops: .

The Embedded Battery shouldn't be to much of a concern. Not at all Happy about manufacturers moving to that type of BS. But as was already proven on the EVO LTE, it can be removed. Just not something that's simple anymore. Seems like just another excuse for you to have to take the Device to them . Which is total BS .
