buying from mobiles.co.uk - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi,
did any one get their SGS from here?
as i ordered it about a week ago and nothing, contacted them and they seem very dodgy

They are an arm of Carphone Warehouse, so are perfectly safe to use, but their customer service is apalling. I ordered my first SGS from them and they did everything but process the PAC, so when I received it, it was issued with a new number, and I had to send it all back again to be cancelled. I just bought it from Vodaphone after that, went for a 24 month contract and the 16GB model instead of Mobiles.co.uk's 18 month contract and the 8GB model.
Give them a ring and ask where your phone is, but be warned, they have dozens of different "branches" and you need the number of the branch that you ordered the phone from. All the orders are on different systems, so "Branch A" for example can't see or deal with the order from "Branch B" and A can only see that you have ordered a phone, nothing else. Took me over an hour to find the number for the right "branch".

I got mine from mobiles.co.uk. They are a larger company so there's a bit of pot luck involved, but I've usually got them on the phone pretty quick and my phone was delivered on the same day as all the other UK first arrivals.

How long do you have to wait from Expansys?

I ordered Dopod 818 pro from Expansys HK site on 1/25. Even HK site shows 50 in stock. My order status still show "Awaiting Stock".
http://www.expansys.com.hk/product.asp?code=127899
When I ordered my universal, it was pre-release.
When it was released, i called and checked, and they said oh there is one left, I'll make sure you get it.... cheeky buggers, of course I should have got it. Then I got it straight away. I would suggest only because I called.
Subsequently (as if I hadnt learned!!!), I ordered a case and some accessories, at the beginning of december for xmas.... 13 days... bull..... xmas.... bull emailed and said WHAT!!! they blamed the supplier .... new years..... bull..... January came and went (now 2 months later!!!) so I called and went totally ballistic about thei inadeqacy and unprofessionalism and lack of service.... you get the idea (oh yeah, I threatened to expose their service to every major website forum using PPC's)
I got it 3 days later even though they were out of stock, even though their website still said 9 days to delivery (it had rarely changed.....).
It is finally on the UPS system.
After I placed order, eXpansys HK site once drops price to about US$600. I emailed to ask for PM. They took 3 days to rise their HK price to about $650 again. And and ask me to PM their US site price which is $749. What a great company to deal with!

Where'd you get your TyTN

Hi, I really kind of hate askin questions like this, cause so many opinions can vary, but I am trying to get a few ideas on reputable dealers, since I have never dealt with any of them before, I was planning on getting one through Smart-Mobile-Gadgets, they were just mentioned in a few reviews/posts I read in the beginning and seems like a good dealer, but I see so many other places offering TyTN's now.
If you have bought a TyTN and recieved a US charger without the UK adapter, or have had to send your unit back for warranty and recieved good customer service or know of places with good warranty contracts/extended service, or just know of a very reputable dealer, any info you might share would be greatly appreciated.
Also if you happen to know any dealers that have been shipping the 630 serial models.
Thanks
I used phonesource-usa via eBay w/o any issues at all. When Christian replaced my original TyTN, the new one came through with an HT630 serial number. He offered a 3 day return policy on eBay. I'd also check his website to see if it's the same there or not.
I have heard good things about phonesource, but MMB (Mad Monkey Boys Gadgets) I have dealt with personally and he is excellant. Recieved a USA Charger with mine and the 630+ Ser #. excellant communicaitons as well.
I went through quite an exercise on my quest for a TyTN:
1. I went to Smart-Mobile-Gadgets, and pre-ordered an early shipment from him in late July for an August ship date. Unfortunately, he ended up getting a bad shipment (all MTeORs and no TyTNs), but I'm happy to say he promptly refunded my money. (Overall experience: no phone but still an "A")
2. I went to PhonesourceUSA. I bought a TyTN (628-series), which he promptly shipped to me overnight (I paid extra for that). (Overall grade: "A+")
3a. After about a week with the TyTN, I experienced the stupid stylus silo problem. I arranged to have the device replaced as a DOA. In support of this, I shipped the device out for Saturday delivery, with the expectation that a replacement would be shipped back to me the following Monday. I would have preferred that he ship the replacement before he received the bad unit, but I could live with this arrangement. (Interim experience: "B+")
3b. Well, it didn't ship on Monday... and it wasn't until Tuesday when I called to complain that he did ship a device... but he shipped it 7-day Ground! Unfortunately for me, this happened around the Labor Day holiday, and a full 10 days passed without my replacement TyTN. Suffice it to say I was IRATE... especially after having paid the premium for overnight the first time around and specifically requesting that he send it as quickly as possible (I needed my phone back). Bottom line, I did get my new device earlier this week (630-series), and it seems to be working fine, but the shipping fiasco turned what had been a very good sales experience into a very disappointing one and soured my opinion of this vendor. (Overall grade: "C-")
So the moral of the story: go with the vendor that's going to do right by you on the support front. Given the opportunity to do this all over again, I think I would have bought from MadMonkeyBoy. Although his website is the toughest to use, he's got the scale and the track record to back up what he sells.
Of course this is just my personal experience/opinion and YMMV....
madmonkeyboy all the way.
Bought my HTC Prophet from him....
And now my HTC TyTN.
I keep telling myself not to get the Trinity when she comes out but I'll most likely get that from David as well.
My TyTn
I bought my TyTn at my local dealer !
Fox-Computer in Paris http://www.fox-direct.com
With the GPSlim 240 Holux.
MMD too
www.itmagasinet.dk
I wouldn't recommend for anyone else though; they don't live up to their responsibilities concerning RMA.
Luckily I'm getting more and more happy with my device, so I'm not going to return it anyway ;-)

I'd rather David spend his time on Customer Service and fast shipping than a website.
Brought mine from mobileshop.com - placed the order about 2PM, arrived 9AM the next day! Didn't even pay a dime for the device or shipping. £35/18months. Magic.

Waiting and Waiting from Expansys!!!

I'm a little frustrated with waiting on expansys to re-stock. I ordered my device monday Nov 10th. After verifying the credit card mess they updated my status to "waiting to for re-stock". But whats crazy is that Expansys-usa.com says that they have some in stock. When i called and inquired about it, they said that its at thier central location and not thier usa location. Their just waiting for their next shipment.
I just want to order the device and it be on its way.
Sorry for venting, I just dont know where to order at and it actually gets shipped without any delays. I have tried searching via google and the websites dont look to promising. I know of Clove Technologies....but i thought that might be the same situation.

I just order today and now Expansys says that only have a new stock at 6 of December...
I ordered mine from Expansys HK, and they luckily had one piece in stock remaining, and i got it today, at my friends place in HK! (still gotta wait for it to come to my country! argh!)
I saw that Expansys UK has good stock, i mean, couple of days back, they had around 59 in stock, and were ready to ship it to HK if i wanted. (Coz expansys-hk had the last piece, so didnt order from expansys-uk)
i suggest call them up (UK) and find out of the stock position, dont go on what they say on the site!
Expansys US showed 1-5 in stock, and when i called, they told me they are out of stock! buggers!

Dear Friend,
How much you got it from expansys? And also how much did the indian customs charging you? i am all set to buy from Clove, is it a good decesion?
Expansys are shady, they told me when I ordered from them everything was in stock and would be dispatched same day (twice). However they didn't have stock, also was real nice to inform me as well. Cancelled my entire order with them (which was a few things inc an HD) and went elsewhere. Still waiting for them to put the money back in my bank account too....
Also in the UK they are actually a bit more expensive than other sites.

Hey there,
Dont even think of importing it via courier, else the Indian customs will levy a heavy duty on it, and even stall it for a couple of months!
I got it delivered to my friend's place in Hong Kong itself, and he will be bringing it along with him when he comes here in a week or 2.
Bought it for HK$6205 - VALUE PACK! (Around INR Rs.41,000/-)
Contains:
1x HTC Touch HD
1x HTC Original Car Charger
1x HTC Original CASE for Touch HD
1x HTC BT M200 Bluetooth Headset (i exchanged this with a JABRA one)
Possible solution
Well now I get. So here is my solution. I still have my order with Expansys. They do not have any in stock. I just called them an hour ago. They said they wont have any til late November.
So I ordered from Clove Technologies. Does anyone know if they have it in stock? I'm going to cancel my order with Expansys as soon as I know Clove have shipped it. Hopefully they have it in. Another user here informed me on how well they are with orders. Hopefully I can here something from them today.
Last, I know there will be some customs form I have to fill out....any idea on the added delay with that?
www.devicewire.co.uk have it in stock and they cost only £514 inc VAT. Hurry, they are flying of the shelves quick! I also have a £10 expansys voucher for the first person to ask!

Just got off the phone from Expansys UK. They have got a back-order of over 300 to fulfill. Just to let you know if you are thinking of ordering. This is with the website saying "OVER 30 IN STOCK. IF YOU ORDER TODAY YOU WILL GET IT TOMORROW".
<rant>
It seems a tricky way of representing actual stock to the innocent buyer. Again that teaches us to CALL FIRST & confirm. Asking the key questions and not just go by what you read on the site. I'm sure they've got it all covered on small-print somewhere. You can cancel at any time though, they did say that. </rant>
Expansys lying on delivery date
As most of you have ordered my HTC HD from expansys Hong Kong at the time they were saying it should be delivered with 6 days. Since them the delivery date has been postponed and postponed. Therefore I have cancelled my order because the device will be available in any Hong Kong shops at the time of their delivery.
I am lucky enough to have my office close to their Hong Kong office. Therefore I cannot resist to go there to explain what I thing about their lies.
I ordered one from Clove and they dispatched the second day..
I'm from China and the phone's already arrived at Hong Kong today.
I should get it tomorrow
Just to throw my 2 pence in about Clove Technologies - I ordered my HTC Touch HD from them last Saturday, and the phone arrived on Wednesday. It would have arrived on Tuesday, but they had to do an extra security check to ensure I was the cardholder (which I respect quite a lot). So all in all, a very positive experience with them.
It's a shame that the price from Clove is £539.33 including VAT though....

i9000M Repair/Replacement Information

This is intended to be consolidated information on how to have your faulty i9000M repaired or replaced. This only applies to the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant sold through Bell Mobility in Canada.
There's a lot of great info buried in several quasi-related threads. Unless you follow each of those threads, it can be tough to find the phone numbers or latest news. If you have anything to add or correct, please post it here and I'll update this first post.
Phone numbers:
Bell Mobility Customer Support: 1-877-328-2123
Samsung Service: 1-888-751-4078
Samsung Mobile Canada: 1-800-726-7864 (unconfirmed - it's been suggested this is a direct line?)
If you're a Bell customer:
- call the Customer Support # above and navigate the menu to get to phone/tablet support
- explain that you're having problems with your Samsung Vibrant phone
- they'll ask you to explain the problems
- once confirmed they'll explain that you'll receive a replacement in 3-5 business days and that you'll have to ship back to them your faulty phone and the original battery (supposedly this is to confirm that the damage was not due to water or other circumstances they wouldn't be responsible for)
- I was told that a $100 credit would be placed on my account without having to bring it up myself. If it isn't offered, make a point to highlight the inconvenience of being without the phone while still having to pay for your service.
Bought via Bell but not a Bell subscriber:
Someone in an another thread noted that Samsung has an agreement with Bell to accept all faulty phones. This appears confirmed although Bell is NOT honouring the $100 credit. We're also looking for reports of people from outside Canada who are able to get their phones replaced.
Virgin or Sasktel Customers:
- There's at least one report that Virgin is not following Bell's replacement policy. You'll have to follow the standard warranty repair process via Samsung
- There's at least one report that Sasktel is not following a similar replacement policy as Bell.
- Call Samsung directly for a shipping label to have your phone sent in for repair/replacement.
Other notes:
- The new phones are shipping with JH2. [UPDATE] I just received my new phone with JL2
- New phones are shipping with hardware dates of 10.12. [UPDATE] my new phone came with 10.11
- You can track your replacement phone by visiting http://www.bell.ca/warranty/ and clicking to "Track Your Repair". Simply enter your cell #.
- If your phone hasn't yet died, Bell/Samsung will NOT accept it for repair/replacement. No proactive replacements are occuring.
Unconfirmed
- Bell is only accepting phones that have failed due to a 2.2 upgrade

First complaints of new phones failing
I sent my i9000m in on the 14th for repair. I called up Bell Technical support today and asked them to apply the $100 credit and ship me a replacement instead of repairing my phone and, to my surprise, they agreed.

Has anyone begun receiving their replacement phones via mail? If so, what turnaround times are you seeing vs where you live?
I called yesterday (dec 30) for a replacement and I'm in Ontario (near Toronto). Hoping to get it just after the weekend.
Added additional Samsung #.
If anyone is calling Samsung directly (I assume this is because you're not a Bell subscriber?), can you add some clarity on the best approach? Or at least what worked for you?
$100 only if bricked while updating to official froyo
I was told by more than one Bell rep that they would only be granting the $100 of you bricked your phone due to their Froyo update.

Interesting. So rather than flash back stock 2.1 before sending it in, it might be a better idea to make sure that JK4 or JL2 is flashed to the phone.
So far there have been 2 reports of the new phones failing.

My phone died last week Manufacturing date 10.07. I bought the phone off kijiji for $430 brand new in box. Im not a bell customer. I called Samsung social hub number and told them that i have a bell I900M that died after the froyo update and told the guy about internal sd card failure issue. He gave me two options,
1) Go through Bell
2) Directly Samsung
obviously i chose samsung. he emailed me UPS shipping lables and I sent my phone thru UPS on dec 28

what the ****ing ****... I've been on the phone with 4 different people about the past week about the same thing. sent mine in on the 15th.
called on 29th 1st call tech service guy was a ****. didn't do anything.
called on 30th and 2nd guy was very supportive and understanding but i had called too late in the day (10 mins before they closed i know my fault) but he was on the phone with me for at least 30 mins trying to help in different ways. he gave me the $100 credit and basically told me to call back the next day and talk directly to a manager.
2 days later i called back and tried to talk directly to the manager but the 3rd guy gave me the run around (never transfered me to a manager) and told me that since i had a repair tag already opened (because i sent it in before the replacement program) that he would have to email the service company and find out if they were done and shipping my phone and if not to close that and bell would send a new one. that was supposed to hear back from him at the most 24 hours later. that was 3 days ago yesterday.
when I called back yet again yesterday I got a 4th person who again didn't let me talk to a manager and told me she would email the 3rd guy to call me back asap about the information he should have recieved back from the service company because the email would go directly to him and there's no point in her emailing them again.
i just want a freaking phone.
Sorry to hear about your delays. Have you tried calling Bell's Customer Support line instead? I've read of at least one person who got Bell to ship them a new phone even though there's was out for repair.
I called Bell Customer Support on the afternoon of Dec 30 and just received my replacement this morning (Jan 4). Not bad at all.
Details:
Firmware: came shipped with JL2 (odd since others are reporting there's came with JH2)
Date: 10.11 (odd since I was expecting one of the 10.12 phones)
The Phone: brand new with all the original protective stickers on it. I should have taken some 'unboxing' photos
Now to try restoring some apps.
Well it seems Virgin Mobile isn't following suit. Even though Bell basically owns them now...
CSR said it'll be 3 weeks (or more) for the warranty process. In the meantime I'll be receiving a loaner phone though. She didn't seem to be aware of any SGS problems either, so I'm guessing not many SGS's were sold through Virgin? I don't know. Either that or the user-base is too dumb to update the firmware.
This is my 2nd time having to replace/repair it. First time was just direct exchange since it was only 14 days old. This time though, I'm just slightly outside of the 30 day exchange window, so now I get stuck waiting.
At least the Virgin Mobile hold times have been rather short both times and the two people I've spoken with have been pretty friendly.
I supposed I could of been a **** and ranted and complained to her to try and get a direct replacement, but that's just not who I am. They're human too you know

LIke you, I just got my phone from Purolator about 10 minutes ago, called it in on 12/28 after the SD card had crapped out. The replacement is also a 10.11 phone (I was expecting 10.12 but does not look like those phones are that immune). My new phone also had JL2 preloaded. I am wary that Samsung has not owned upto the fact that the SD card itself is crap and indicating that JL2 will have fixed everything. I really do hope this phone lasts this time around.
[UPDATE]
My new phone out of the box was damn laggy. Taking far too long to open windows, pull down the status bar, etc. I managed to get Titanium Backup installed and my first several attempts at restoring apps was painful - literally, nothing was happening. Finally on my 3rd or 4th attempt at restoring apps, it successfully installed ~60 apps with data in 9 minutes. After enabling LauncherPro, the lag completely disappeared. The phone was so fast that I didn't want to touch it with anything else So to summarize, I was able to restore all my apps (albeit a bit slowly) on a stock 2.2 firmware and restore great performance to the phone.
I'm now flashing a modified kernel for 2e & root and will probably try one of the custom ROMs later today.
did they send it canada post or UPS or what? Mine's been saying "Replacement Unit is being programmed and packed for shipment to Customer." since the 30th. They must be packing it VERY carefully.

just print it, stick it to the box, and drop it at any UPS store or call up to schedule a UPS truck pick up at your doors
A friend of mine, along with myself had the Jk4 crash. We sent our phones in for repair through Bell, waited a month, and got replacement phones which were 'new units'.
The new units arrived with JK4 on them. I called Bell and told them straight out that my phone might just be another crash waiting to happen. He advised I update to JL2 via KIES.
Mine survived the update, friend's didnt. Hes heading out to tear up the local Bell store.
Make sure you check your replacement phones everyone. You dont want to end up having JK4 without realizing it.

Did they give you a timeframe to have the replacement phone in by? I ask because I took mine into the store on the 14th to have it repaired, but when I heard later on that they were shipping replacements I called up technical solutions, told them what happened and asked if I could just get a replacement shipped too. The agent agreed and gave me the credit and ordered the replacement. I'm terrified that he wasn't supposed to do that because my original phone was already out for repair (even though I told him as much) and I'll get a $500 charge for not returning the old phone right away or some crap. For all I know it could be gone for another month.

Fantastic customer service from Motorola

I dropped my 2013 Moto x and shattered the screen. I use the advanced repair option on the Motorola web site to try and have it repaired for $100. That's where they put a hold on your credit card and ship a "Like new" phone to you then you ship the broken one back to them when the new one arrives. If you don't ship the old one back they bill you for the new one.
I waited over two weeks to get the replacement from Motorola with an email from them that it was shipped 13 days ago. Today after they had me on hold for 45 minutes they came back and apologized to me that it wasn't really shipped and offered me a free upgrade to the 2014 model. I just got done designing my 16 gb pure edition with a bamboo back and it didn't cost me a dime. Not even charge for tax or delivery. Expected delivery January 13th.
Can't beat that for service!
Not too shabby. You're gonna love it, it's an improvement over the 2013 model in every way but the size. I still think the 2013 was the perfect size and wish they didn't make the 2014 as large as they did.
I have only had good experience with moto. The only thing that I dislike about them their billing is screwed up.

The support in the UK is shocking. I reported a problem with the wooden back coming off a few days after I got the phone and it's taken several weeks to get anywhere with the support. Cases either get closed as solved or ignored by Motorola. I finally called up and spoke to someone but they won't do an advanced shipment of a replacement so I either have to send it for repair or send it back. As I used the cyber Monday discount if I send it back I'll have to order a new one at full price.
I have had some decent interaction with their customer support and they have been very helpful. My only issue is that for whatever reason they will not let me pay $50 extra to make my replacement phone the 64GB version. I started the process for the 14 day return/exchange within the required period, got my code and then noticed they had the 64 available now so I tried to get that. They just refuse to do it and say it is not possible, which I find very strange. I have spoken to a few different people, all very nice, one said he thinks he can get me the code and I can pay the upgrade fee and the other said it is absolutely not possible.
Other than that they have given me some codes for buying accessories and have been helpful.
Is the 14 day exchange policy a US only thing? Or do you have to return the phone prior to receiving the replacement?

I am in the US, but I am not sure if it is only an US thing or not. You can exchange your phone one of two ways; advanced replacement sends you a new device but you put down a deposit, when you get the replacement device you have ten days to send in your old phone. The other way is you send in your old phone first and then get the replacement.

Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We inform you that the advance repair procedure is not implemented in Europe, only in the US, and it's likely that he has heard about this procedure from American customers, as the XDA developers forum is American. Unfortunately, we cannot control the information provide in third party sites not managed by Motorola.
Motorola procedures in the US are not the same as in Europe, and due to this, in this case we can only offer you a replacement or credit, both following the same procedure: send the phone back to us using the DHL labels that we will provide, and when the phone is arrived to our service centre, this will trigger automatically a refund, or a new xCode for replacement, depending on what is the option that customer prefers.
As you contacted us during the 14 days period in case xxxxx-xxxxxx, the return for credit is possible, but you will need to return the phone to us first and the the system will trigger the resolution.
In case your choose the refund of the credit, in the meantime of course you can place another order.

So I guess I'll get a replacement, the first phone I sent back arrived back to them in Germany the next day so hopefully I should get the code to place the order again fairly quickly.
I dropped my Moto X 2014 just three weeks after it arrived and the display was cracked. Motorola really sent me a new one after they received the broken one - I had to pay nothing.
Best costumer support I ever experienced. I don't think you can expect this anywhere else.
I'm from Germany, for your information
