OTA July 19th?(tonight) - Droid X General

has anyone gotten, heard, or know anything about the supposed OTA that is coming? supposed overall performance improvements, as well as better camera app, also supposed to fix that possible charging bug.

That should help you out, if you haven't seen it already. I may or may not hold off on the OTA because it may help with the Droid X rooting efforts. Chances are I'll get it though :-/

This is my first android phone so I'm just wondering...what's the procedure for an OTA update? Will the Droid X automatically prompt us when it becomes available or is there a manual action required?

automatic, so yes something will prompt you and if you don't click for it yourself in 3 minutes is the time frame i believe, it will automatically just do it. it will restart your phone after it downloads and then install and start up again.
i haven't got the update yet but i have been manually checking all day! i want it bad lol.

Seems like it's not going to be available today after all.

Someone on twitter said it would be released at 10:59pm. Idk where he got it from though.

Installed no noticeable difference. Now we will let the clock start ticking for froyo. Tick. Tock. And so it begins. May e this was secretly a maintenance update for froyo. Vzw tweeted today that froyo for the dinc would b late july or early august. U don't think the are going to give it to someone other than their flagship phone first do u?

are you sure it's not 1.5.7....?
NO... It's for sure "Version.4.1.75.MB860.ATT.en.US"......
Am I the only one??????????????
I re-flashed to 1.2.7 so I could re root the old way and when I checked for update it said 1.75......
Installed and working with root.
Here is proof... Sorry for the poor photo quality.

Just tried updating, said up to date. Might be a lucky atrix user.
Maybe that's the hsupa update. You should do a speed test.

OK. Now it gets even stranger. After updating to 1.7.5 (and retaining root) I checked for system updates again...... Guess what? It says that there is another update to 1.8.3..........????? WTF?
I am not going to update because I have root now and don't want to lose it. I have no idea how any of this happened or what it means......

I am new to the android thing so this could have happened to someone that knows a little more of the inner workings but it is what it is....

Nope just was in system updates this morning. Very happy for those that own one since this is considered a "dead" device. I started doubting the recent purchase of it for my wife but now that she has it, the battery life will be greater with the extended battery and she'll have the newest software. I may troll around here just to keep the forum moving.

How about we stop waiting in anticipation for something that isn't coming and work with what we have?
Where did you hear the new date is the first?
Personally, I think Verizon is being rather mean posting the changelog and withholding the actual download...:-D

Possible for my setup to OTA update or would I have to wait for a stock htc build on xda? I thought unrevoked forever made sure you were rooted/able to root for good.

Wait until someone has it posted then flash it... or see what happens when everyone else does it. You may remain s-off, but lose root - I know, weird. In that case I'd think it would be easiest to flash a recovery and then flash the rooted version anyway, so just wait.

I screwed myself by accepting the last OTA update. I'm certainly not accepting this one until know for sure it won't screw me further.
I'm personally not going to take that update atm. Still not happy with my current phone situation anyway... Had an Epic 4G but my fiancee wanted to upgrade from her dated Samsung Moment. So i looked around on Craigs and bought a Shift 4G. She didn't want the shift though, because she got so attached to her game-gripper on the Moment. So I gave her my Epic and took the Shift. Too bad it already had 2.3.3 on it =/
I'm just waiting on a new root exploit and I'm afraid to update anything on this sucker until then lol
I would never accept any OTA update. If root is ever discovered again and it requires the update you can always get it...can't really go back once you have it. On the other hand development for this phone is really slow and I believe root will only be found if it happens to be the same exploit as the newer phones so you may be without it for quite awhile and if the sms/mms issue affects you then you may want to take it. I know it is tempting but think about how it feels not having root just because you wanted the newest update.
