Protected Apps Missing? - Streak 5 General

All - Can anyone who currently has a Streak let me know if they're able to access protected apps in the market? I bought a new beta model, and while it works great, and I really like it so far, I can't find many of the featured apps in the Market that should work on 1.6, such as SlingPlayer Mobile, and many of the games.
At first, I was thinking Google may not have added the Streak to the compatible device list yet, but considering it's been out in the UK for over a month now, and I haven't found many similar complaints online yet, I wanted to check to see if others are having the same issues.
Thanks in advance.
AG

I suspect its not been added to the list yet, it took a month for the Desire to be added its only recently that Google Earth, etc has been available for that.

Thanks for the quick response. It's disappointing to see the same old issues are still around, and in some ways, getting worse.
Hopefully we'll see some movement from Google on this, soon.
Thanks again,
AG

New stuff, 2.2

So, did anyone else watch or attend the Google I/O? They went over some of the very neat features in 2.2. One of them, which I have seen has been a big want/need from people on here... is Apps on the SD card, they also have a ton of new features that will help your computer and your device work together better. Any thoughts about this? Pretty interesting stuff I think!
Here is a link to the Google youtube page. They stuff about Android was talked about on the second day's Keynote.

[Q] Any suggestions for apps like "where"?

I've used the app where for a while now. I was wondering if any of you could suggest any excellent alternatives to this kind of program? I recently installed poynt when I couldn't find where in the market. Later I found where in the sprint section of the market. I played around with both and of course neither are perfect and have their shortcomings. I don't like how more apps are now wanting to know too much about you or are gathering info behind your back and using it for marketing or for other companies. It's getting more difficult to find apps that aren't sneaky like that. I was very surprised in an article I've read recently talking about some really popular apps are putting their noses in areas of your phone and using that info. I remember astrid and the weather channel and coupons were a few that I can remember that the article said are not behaving themselves.
I know that as time progresses and technology gets better, that some of the things we preferred and took for granted are being splayed out on the internet for anyone who knows where to look to find it.
Where is a legit app, they need location etc to give u local stuff.
Sent from my Epic 4G
I know. I'm just wondering about other choices that do the same thing, maybe even better. Sometimes where can be a pain in the.
Yelp, places, and urbanspoon are all good apps. Yelp especially has the monocle feature which is alternate reality... by pointing the camera down a street it shows name location and rating of businesses

couple ? DVP

I am thinking of getting one since it just went on sell at dell for $299. I would like not to mess with it and keep it at stock so wondering?
1. Gps with this phone? Works? Compared to google maps?
2. Can you allow pop ups with the browser?
3. Camera is ok?
Thanks for any help
everythiing you are asking pertains to WP7 in general with the exception of the camera; It sucks BIG TIME.
this is where megapixel count is stupid. the 5MP on DVP is just as bad as my motorolla V3.
Thanks for the info on the camera...i was looking everywhere and cant find info on if i can have pop ups for my work web site. Anyone know? Any info on gps nav would be great
I don't think popups are disallowed. This, however, is not the same as being allowed. Confusingl, huh?
As far as GPS, there are several turn-by-turn apps in the marketplace ranging from free to $6. Plus, in Mango there will be onboard navigation as part of the OS. We'll see if it remains tap-by-tap or if it goes to a turn-byturn system.
Otherwise, great phone especially with the newer firmware.
That is confusing for the pop ups lol......i really need them for work so hopefully i can get it to work. Is mango an update? When will it come out?
Thanks for your help
Yes. Mango is an update due out in September/October. A tweet hit yesterday which may have leaked a September release. But, we'll see. Meanwhile, here's a massive review of Mango for you to pour over.

It might be sooner..

If that is true (i have my doubts) i'd find it hard to believe that japan would get mango before the US.

[APP] Android Tablet Apps - Web's Largest Database of Android Tablet Apps

Hey there, fellas (and ladies!)! Are you tablet owners tired of that fact that the Android Market still does not have a dedicated tablet app section yet? I got tired of that very fast, and I decided, back in January, to open a website that would become the web's largest database providing users with nothing but applications that are designed to work on Android tablets. I've fought and struggled to make everything work just like it should, and finally, I feel that it's in a position where I can open it up to the masses.
I'm here today to present to you my app, which is live on the market right now. This app is called Android Tablet Apps, and, as the title states, you'll be able to browse all of the Android tablet applications That I have added to my website.
You can download the application from the market via this link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidtabapps.tablink
Please, if you have any comments or suggestions, leave them below, and I will consider them. I am open to anything you have to say.
This app is compatible with both phones AND tablets, running android 2.2+. I didn't feel the need to restrict the app to just tablets, because a lot of us tablet owners also have phones and it would be nice to browse tablet apps sometimes, when you don't have your tablet, right?
Should probably reserve this post for any future need.
Market install issue
Thank you for creating this app. I have downloaded it from the market and the market indicates it is installed, but it does not show up on my tablet... Am using an Acer Iconia A500 with a rooted stock rom, so I am unsure of how to test this,
Thanks,
Edit:
Rebooted, went back and tried the third time and finally installed.
I really wish I could debug that problem, because I have the exact same problem on my tablet, too. (I've the a500 as well).
Very good app. Installed without a hitch on my A501.
Sent from my Acer Iconia A501 using XDA Premium App.
(Acer Iconia A501 + Samsung Galaxy S I9000T)
Very nice app man, sweet presentation! Thanks
Bill
How is this different from Tablet Market?
Your market description says "Android Tablet Apps is your number one source, as well as the FIRST source online, for Android tablet applications and games".
How is this different from the Tablet Market app that I've been using for months?

From the screenshots, yours does look nicer.

From the looks of that app and its website, there's no web interface that tablet owners can use to browse tablet apps. Our web interface is located at www.androidtabapps.com and as mentioned, I've had it up and running since January 2011.
I haven't actually seen that app before, so I couldn't tell you how its functionality differs from mine or anything.
I appreciate your compliment, as well as all other compliments in this thread.
I believe I will be implementing a search option very soon. This search will work on both the tablet and phone version of my application, and it should be released very soon. Also, I think I am going to rework some of the functionality of the app, so be on the lookout for the new update notification when I upload the next version. I'll also post here, that there's an update available, and explain the changes in my second post in the beginning of this thread.
Again, all suggestions are welcome. If you have an idea on how I can improve my app for you, PLEASE let me know, either via this thread, or via the email that's in my app details on the Market.
there's also Tablified (both app + website) to also disprove this one being the first. All that aside though, this app looks quite promising and there's alot of good content, although if I were to be picky, I noticed a few apps not specifically made for tablets. Also, I wish the Market links would open the Market app rather than the website. Just my 2 cents... Looks nice though. I'll definitely be keeping it and looking forward to future updates. Thanks for sharing!
I'd like to take just a moment to counter the claimin post #9. My website has been live since January 6, 2011, while the other site mentioned has been online since July 21, 2011. I am not sure when they released their app as I obviously haven't followed them closely enough, but I can definitly back my claim as being the first source onthe internet for Android tablet apps
I would also like to thank you for your compliments about my app, and I will definitely change the link structure to open app links in your native Market app, rather than the web Market. This change will take place this weekend. Thanks for your suggestion!!
Bloodflame, can you name those apps that we accidentally added that aren't for tablets? Ill review them and remove them. Thanks

Why so many updates for Android apps?

Ok, first off, I DID do a search for this, and did not find any pertinent information, so please don't jump my case about using search.
I have often wondered why so many apps get so many updates from the Play Store, some getting updates 3 or 4 times in one week! Is there really that much behind the scenes development going on? Are they just changing the ads or something? Is Play Store updates broken so you get the same update multiple times? It does not seem to be just the free apps though. I have a number of paid apps that do the same thing. If any of you devs could shed some light on this, I would appreciate it. It bothers me when I see an app getting so many updates so quickly, as I wonder what is going on with it that requires those constant changes.

In short, one of the reason are manufacturers, apps have sometimes problems and bugs with specific phones, for example App 1 works good on Xiaomi, but has bugs on Samsung, developer fix some problem for Samsung but breaks something on HTC phones, and so on, it's sometimes endless loop. And sometimes the same app can be working excellent on Samsung A, but buggy on Samsung B, or App FC when you have some other app installed, but works good if you don't have that other app for example.
Second is that there is 0 app that hasn't got some kind of bug.
Thanks Nitro. As a retired software engineer it just disturbed me that the apps seemed to be so unstable. I guess it makes sense though as they do run on a large number of different devices, with a large number of different iterations of the base software. I also would think that with the shear number of devices out there, actual testing on the various devices would be pretty hard unless you were a rich man. That is where the guidelines from Google come in I guess. You write to the guidelines and hope the manufacturers didn't mess with that portion of the base Android system. Heck of a way to make a living.
In any event, thanks again for the reply, and thanks to the devs that try to make usable apps in a chaotic system! :good:
