Notification Volume - Vibrant General

So on every android phone, in the sound settings for ringtone, you can set it so that your notification and ringtone volume is the same (by checking off a little box). I font see this option on the phone and so when I lower my volume it only lowers it for the ringtone, not emails and texts etc. this is ANNOYING. is they're not a setting for this or is it just me?

It's extremely annoying, and my biggest issue I've had with the phone so far. Followed closely by no notification LED. Hoping to see fixes for both soon.

Okay, here's how.
As usual, Settings > Sound and Display > Notification Ringtone. Now that you have the notification ringtone list open, just press the volume key to adjust.

That's how you manually adjust the notification ringtone, as always. What we're missing is the option always in every other Android OS that allows you to match your notification volume automatically to your ringtone volume, allowing you to adjust everything at once by the hard keys on the outside of the phone. Without that option you bump your ringtone way down, for example to go in a meeting, then one of your notifications goes off full blast.

Okay, I see now. I haven't had an android phone in a month so I'm a bit rusty. Well here's a fix to that then. I can't do anything about it in the settings itself, but go to the market and download "Quick Settings." Open the app and go into volume control. On the top there is a check box for "Use Ringer volume for Notifications." Now it'll work.

That sucks big ones. I'll have to use audio manager till that issue gets fixed. This is why I hate non-stock android phones because manufacturers like htc, motorola, and samsung think they thought of everything but they always end up messing something up

I agree, this is the most annoying thing about the vibrant. (luckily its an easy fix)
Thanks for the suggestion on the "Quick Settings" app

damn, whats up with samsung phones just straight up missing **** that's included in android? I was googling for a way to block calls when I saw that android should be able to take any contact and send their calls straight to voicemail.. NOPE, not on my epic.. now the notification/ringer volume link is missing too?! WTF?
I'm having a serious case of buyer's remorse right now.

Ring for calls only - The easy way?

I kind of hate that this is my first post - A little pedestrian - I've been a longtime lurker and thanks to a lot of this forum, I made the jump yesterday to a rooted MyTouch 3G with Cyanogen's latest. I'm pleased.
Coming from a BlackBerry, I've been spoiled by the easy-switch between "profiles", specifically the ability to set the device to only ring for calls and not for SMS or other notifications.
I'm finding a one-touch solution difficult to come by - And I've already tried "Profiles", "Auto Ring", "Toggle Settings" and "Ring Toggle" - Each of them is either a multi-step process to get to "just ring for calls" or won't turn off SMS vibration, a common issue?
Anyway, great community here and I hope to be a small part. If anyone knows a simple, reliable way to set my phone to just ring (for nighttime important calls) and silent everything else (except alarms) - Please let me know!
Thanks!

Um have you tried going into settings, sound/display -> ringer volume? You can check a box and mute your notification sounds. Personally, I find this really easy already but if you must have that one-touch then.. I don't know

It isn't a deal-breaker or anything, but even with a shortcut to "Sound & display", it's a few extra swipes and pokes
I was hoping there was a shortcut directly to that screen or just a simple on-screen button that could turn everything but alarms and calls off.
Thanks

Yes sir! That's what we want - But how do we get that screen as a shortcut or widget on our home-screen?

i think that if it were developed it would need to also toggle the "vibrate on" selection within each notification setting for the various apps that utilize notifications. like gmail app, email app, exchange app, messaging apps, sms/mms etc. it is currently an android weakness compared to winblow and dingleberry but the other strengths of the os outweigh this and a few other features' immaturity. try the market...
well as of right now I can offer you one thing that requires 3 clicks lol
use a shortcut widget! But that is almost as long as doing it normally... lol
although there may be a way using better cut (trying to figure that out)
yeahhh I don't know what else you can do ;p
I give up looking for it. I tried using better cut / any cut and tried the "make your own shortcut"
Apparently there is an intent to adjust the volume but.. I don't know what to put in the "data" field. Searched around and not many people know how to use this feature either haha

...point about "vibrate on" is that you'd need a shortcut (as you say) for each app if, like me, you activate "vibrate on" as part of the notification profile for each of the app examples i listed above. in other words, simply silencing notifications volume from settings/ringer_volume/use_incoming_call_volume_for_notifications has no effect on the "vibrate on/off" selection profile for the individual apps.
It seems like the whole "SMS vibrations are different" deal is what really makes this a difficult implementation - Every application I've tried has difficulty specifically with silencing SMS vibrations that are turned on - Otherwise, it's totally possible - Very, very strange that this is still an issue...

Default notifications sounds and vibrate

Am I the only that thinks this? all day long I miss texts and emails when the phone is in my pocket because the rings and the vibrate (specailly the vibrate) are too soft and the vibrate is so short and soft.
anyone knows if we can make the vibrate last longer?
and also the screen feedback vibrate is kind of week...maybe I am use to using the app TouchAz..something.... in my WM diamond where I could control the length of the feedback(vibrate) when the screen was pressed and when it was realesed.
Right???
Other than that so far the Evo kicks A$$
I cant be the only one after more than 33 views that doesn't think the vibrate on this phone sucks, or the response from the screen....
Come on...
I actually prefer the smoother vibrate on this phone to the one on the Hero. Seems somehow nicer, even if it is slightly harder to detect.
Im sure many improvement to the apps and phone it self will come. But for now you can use Handcent Sms. You can control the vibrating pattern of SMS and MMS messages.
View attachment hc_sms.apk
Go to handcent.com for any other downloads. I got the apk from there.
'missed reminder' in the market is great for repeating notifications...still wish it was built into android though
used in on the hero and just installed it today on the evo
Im sorry but the last two phones I had that actually featured haptic feedback had it wrong. This thing is like buttah...
Your notifications might be locked down to your ringtone volume, mine were by default so you might need to address that. -hope you get it sorted out.
Ok...now I know why I seem to think the vibrate is weak...is actually not vibrating at all for me. and i have checked in all the settings and they are all checked for "vibrate"
Anyone else's Evo not vibrating?
I tried putting the volume to vibrate to see if it works and it does vibrate that way but everytime i get an email or text it only sounds and not vibrate...
Damn.
Posting for later.
same here...it seems to have happened after i installed swype..but i hope thats not the problem
i use SMS POPUP to control sound and vibration for sms.
before I realized that the vibrate wasnt working at all I also downloaded an app like someone here adviced to control the notifications (handcent) but how can I control it if it isnt working....
the app is pretty cool btw.
going to the sprint store later to see what they say.

Did you check the settings within Handcent, and the Stock messaging app, and as well through Menu > Settings > Sounds & Display?
Just to confirm, yes when I change the notifications between vibrate and normal, those changes take place as they should. I'm on a non rooted device.

i was able to fix my vibrating problem with an app called sound manager
My Evo was not vibrating for text messages when i first got it. i fixed it by factory resetting

Sound on / Vibrate on

Is there anyway to have the sound and vibrate turned on at the same time for incoming phones calls only?

How then? I am new to Andriod.
What i want is sound off / vibrate on and vice versa. When i put my phone in vibrate mode, all notifications should be set to vibrate. Turn the volume back up and vibrate stops and sounds are back. Maybe I'm just not smart enough to figure it out.
Try settings profile in the market.
Another great app is just "profile" by noimjosh, it is a fully configureable profile manager. It also has whitelist functions and the ability to seperate sms mms and notification volumes to different levels. It will also control GPS WIFI, music volume alarm volume .. the list goes on and on. I highly recommen checking it out. well worth it. Hope this helps.

I find that this is good for everything. That's probably why it costs $4. I have this one turn on my wifi when I get within 1/4 mi of my house. I also have it change my wallpaper so when I'm home it displays a hot naked girl and while at work it will display something other than that.

Thanks everyone!
Enjoy what is left of the 4th!
The new profile has some expanded functoinality. He just updated it i am however heading to the market now for settings profile. Always worth a shot. Thanks.

Hey Acid, settings profile looks really good. Lots of control, i am wondering if you agree on this though. I am on call sometimes from 330 am and want to keep everything silent except for a call from work. So i basically set up a "silent" profile, then created a rule so if i get a call from a specific work number the profile will change to another profile called "work".which has an audible ringtone of course. Thus i should be able to keep everything silent untill work calls then presto i can hear that call. Sound right to you?

THESE instructions look like they run pretty close to what you're describing. I'm pretty sure you can.
Yep, I should have checked that turorial first, thanks for the suggestion, I might have to make the switch over!
Have a good one
Hey by the way, if you have Juice Defender and Settings Profile running in tandem I've noticed they can conflict on the wifi side of things.
Ahh, noted thanks!

ringtone volume?

not sure if this device specific but on my htc incredible in the options i had the ability to have set the notification volume based on the ringtone volume.
on this phone, they're 2 independent settings.
anyone know if theres a way around that?
i just looked and didnt see a way to do it... i had a droid1, dx, and d2 and where i would normally be able to change it (settings > sounds and display > phone ringtone) its just not there... there should be a checkbox to "unlink" phone ringtone and notification volume...
if its somewhere else, please inform
I downloaded an app called "Quick Settings" (really slick apps that gives you acess to a lot of settings all in one place) and it has a check box under it's volume control menu to "Use Ringer volume for Notifications".
Hope this helps!
I like that, thank you! It needs a widget, though.

i have been wondering the same thing. I had quick settings on my Incredible, don't know why i didn't think to download that.
Thanks.
I remember seeing that feature on my Eris after installing the KaosFroyo ROM. I think it's a new feature in Froyo, so we'll probably see it with our Froyo upgrade as well.

Not a widget but there is a setting to put in the (already too crowded) status bar/ pull down.

[Q] Notification Volume

So I've run across an issue that is quite bothersome to me.
is there no option to make the notification volume change with the ringer volume?
I haven't found the setting anywhere and on both my old htc and samsung devices there was an option, does lg not have one or am I missing it?

If you press the settings cog in the volume slider in the notification Window it let's you change volume for a bunch of different things, I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for.

No, I know how to change the volume.
What I'm looking for is a setting to make the notification volume change at the same time as the ringer volume.

Gotcha, I haven't looked too hard at that, I will take a look when I get a few minutes.
I'm sure there's an app that let's you do this. Have you checked the play store?
