wildfire owners may make cpu multitasking test - Wildfire General

yes i really wonder multitasking performance of this phone.espeacilly iam intersted in web performance.there will be any slowdown while opened pages and other app in background

I'm very surprised how good the multitasking works, thanks to android's ram management. If you hold down the home button for 3 secs a popup will apear and show you the last 6 used programms. I havent expierienced any slowdown while switching between the programms and installing new apps.
Its great invention that, with android, you dont need any taskmanager or task killer!

Potentially speed up our N1's in the near future?

Just read this article here:
http://androinica.com/2010/02/08/wa...ts-3xs-faster-myriad-wants-to-give-it-to-you/
Wonder what that's going to mean for us?
Exactly as described in the article: better performance and better battery life.
Sounds cool, hopefully they're working on integrating this.
Sounds good.
Currently, though, the N1 can sometimes be choppy because the homescreen uses processing power instead of the GPU. I'm hoping Google will get around to fixing that, because as it stands the GPU is utilized very little.

Do you have a source for this information? It makes sense and I've been wondering why my homescreen lags a bit sometimes while my buddies Sprint Hero runs smooth.
Would be awesome if they found a way to fix it like you say
that would be AMAZING! Mostly for G1, MT3G... owners but i also wouldn t mind it on my N1!!!
Add a better keyboard and open up the RAM, to that new engine and we will have the ultimate phone!
I'm assuming that this 'turbo' dalvik uses some kind of just in time compilation to achieve it's speed increases.
As such, this is already available in android 2.*, but disabled currently as it's experimental.

'Fraid I don't--I remember having read it somewhere, likely on this forum. People've noted that some home replacement apps will run smoother than the stock launcher, however, as those apps make full use of the GPU.
I tried out home replacements for a while, didn't like any of them, and have since set my "window animation" under Settings -> Display to "Some animation." Homescreen no longer lags unless I'm using one of those questionably-optimized third-party live wallpapers.

reading this does remind me i have noticed something that I did find strange.
Using the stock launcher with only 3 pages of widgets and shortcuts, it shows I have about 230mb ram free in Taskpanel.
But when i use Home++, with the same layout, icons and widgets i get near the 270mb free ram mark.
I understand Task Panel may not be the most accurate or whatever but I've done this a few times and it must be something different.
Sorry for the off topic. Im starting to notice something with posts is all... using taskpanel i have never seen more than 80Mb RAM free. thats after killing all background tasks. How the hell are you showing 230Mb?
He is presumably using the highmem kernel.

ViBrant Lag/Slowness

So to make my Question short
id like to know to know how well the phone performs after having used for at least 24 hours. I hear People complain about it lagging and being slow when switching homescreens specially if you add TouchWiz3 Widgets????
Im thinking of ordering one but want to hear from you guys. I Really dont support Samsung too much because well, THEY dont support their customers either. They say one thing with updates and promises but at the end they never fullfill their words. Any ideas???
If theres samsung widgets on TW then yes it lags.. I use tw without samsungs widgets and dont get any slowness going on.
I personaly havent seen any slowness yet. But read others do. Maybe im lucky..

Yeah you can use Launcher PRO instead.

yea just use adw launcher or launcher pro. Fast as can be with either of those. But im digging the TW for now without the widgets...
Awesome. Thanks for the replies. i guess ill be picking one up later around 6pm at T-Mobile Corp. Store.
Only Thing i hate is after playing with nexus one, mytouch slide, HD2, i will be missing the Led Flash which i still wonder why they would not add such feauture.
Kinda makes me think its because they want to launch a new phone not too far away and add Flash so people want to upgrade their current phones to that:/
I am using Samsung Widgets in 3 of 5 my screens with no Lag; I find it curious anyone is having lag unless you have like 20 homescreens packed with widgets. The hummingbird processor in this beast has currently edged out all of the top of the line android phones for CPU speed and it also has the fastest GPU (PowerVR SGX540) as well, offering performance of almost 2x compared to the Evo and Nexus. Lag should not be a happening thing
I have had mine since Friday, used it with TW and samsung widgets without issue, but I like the customization from adw so I have been using that for the last couple days. So far I have no complaints about speed, just hoping the gps and compass issues get fixed soon.
I have 3 widgets, one of them being Buddies now and get very little lag. Only the pause when coming back to the home screen (not always happening)
New owner I have one widget no lag at all.

I wish I could say the same. I have one widget, feeds and updates, and when it tries to refresh, it lags like hell. If I add the buddies now widget on another screen, just those 2 tw widgets are enough to make this feel like my original mytouch. Very disappointed in the lag.

Could you describe the lag in more detail? How many screens do you have? What wallpaper are you using? Are those the only 2 widgets you are using? Is the lag a skipping or is the phone not responsive at all? Is it better after a reboot?

I always love ADW because of the options and ESPECIALLY the "Drop to Uninstall" option.
but ADW would be just another program running, using more RAM. less use the better.
Yeah from what I can tell the TWLauncher is pretty light on the battery.
i just got rid of the 7 screens and am just using 1. i am gonna see if this helps with the overall performance of the phone. (from the homescreen> menu (haptic button)>edit> then delete the homescreens to your heart's content . You can always put them back by using the same method

I currently have five screens, one has Weather Widget and battery widget, another has the feeds and updates widget, then 2 widgets for stocks (that only update when i tell them to) and youtube and google search widgets. No live wallpaper either. When adding more TW widgets, swiping screens is slower than my old mytouch.

I was running fine for a couple of days and then I started noticing the lag. Selecting the Settings menu would take a couple of seconds. Camera would take a while. I have also had 3 or 4 freezes and had to reboot my phone. Hardly ever happened on the G1 in two years. Would get a black screen for 3-4 seconds in between operations. No spinner. Initially kept thinking the phone was going to sleep.
I have 5 screens with the buddies widget, 2 picture frames, the double daily time widget and Google Search. Shouldn't be causing this hardware to so much as break sweat. I tried removing all widgets. But it didn't help.
What did help was rooting the phone and running the script to move the apps to NAND. But of course there's a limitation on the number of apps. So far, after doing this, it's much better. I'll see if this holds.
The lags have ruined an otherwise outstanding experience on this phone. I'm very disappointed with this performance on this hardware.
What's interesting here is that it's working well for some of you. Which makes it inexplicable why moving the apps to NAND should make such a difference. If this were a problem with the cache, it should have been a problem on every phone. Don't understand this.
The good news is that almost all of the problems I have with the phone should be software fixable.
When it works well, it truly is an amazing device.
I'm very interested in doing the lag fix but I'm intimidated by the process. Is it worth trying to learn ADB? Or should I wait until September for the 2.2 release?

GUIDE: Make your Hero faster (GSM+CDMA)

Hey, im pretty new to all of this, so pardon my "mess-ups"
First off, I want to make clear that i take no liability for what happens to your phone, but all of this is relatively safe, so don't worry.
It concerns all the people who are worrying about Hero "lag" (which is pretty much everyone) and of you want to make it faster, take a look at what I did.
Okay, enough with the talk. Lets get started.
Here's some prerequisites that you need to have to speed up your hero:
Advanced Task Killer (Free, Android Market)
Launcher Pro (Free, Android market, but paid version is better)
(Optional: ROOT: You can do this using super one click:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...d-samsung-captivate-with-super-one-click-app/ )
For optional, root your phone before proceeding.
The main key to Hero lag (in my opinion) is HTC sense. If you install launcher pro from android market, you remove sense, but get a nice, simple launcher from android market. Play with it by going into preferences. I currently have five screens, 3D app drawer, and a a 5 and 7 app drawer speed. Its REALLY fast. With the paid version, you can get app resizing, and more widgets. Thats about it. oh, and did i mention you get a LANDSCAPE HOME SCREEN?!?! (girly shrieks)
As for the Advanced Task Killer, download it, and put the widget on your homescreen, and click it everytime your phone lags.
If you have rooted your phone, install terminal emulator, and follow this guide (http://jaxov.com/2010/09/how-to-remove-stock-default-android-apps-easily/), and remove all stock apps that you never use.
If you have any extra tips, feel free to comment below.
(P.S), if you have any way to get of the keyboard lag while texting, please comment, because even with no vibrate/sound it sometimes lags)
(P.P.S) This method works on any ROM. Use it with CM6 for ultimate awesomeness.
Don't use a task killer, use Autokiller instead. Not a task killer, but does allow you to kill problematic apps if need be (2.2 allows you to do this as well).
If you are unrooted and use lp or adw, sense is not removed. If you go that route, remove all widgets an icons from your sense screens. Also, no task killer. They cause more problems than what they're worth. Use the running apps to close anything.

Yeah, they don't remove the Sense framework, just the launcher. If you're going to stay unrooted, it definitely helps.
The most sure-fire way to speed up the phone is to root and run a custom ROM. Any custom ROM will be faster than a stock release thanks to the developer's tweaks. If you want to stay closer to stock, look into nfinitefx45's ROMs.
Agreed with others, don't use a task killer. Only use the root-only "AutoKiller".
Question: what do you mean by "use running apps to close anything". Sorry im sorta noobish at this, but what problems DO task killers cause? Because i haven't had any.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
they can close things that don't need to be closed. Also, they constantly run in the background, taking up ram and precious cpu cycles (which we don't have a lot to spare... lol). Using auto killer, you can change your ram free settings, and let android kill what isn't needed to free up ram. I run it at optimum on cm6... it's the lowest I could run and keep everything very snappy, and any higher and apps close as soon as I exit them, killing my multi tasking. (i.e., I can exit my browser, send a text, and when I go back to browser it doesn't have to reload the page)
App Killers have their uses; but...

As I understand it, Android manages its processes differently than many people are used to thinking about. More free memory isn't necessarily a good thing in Android. So when you kill all Apps, you're throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Sure, you might get that one misbehaving app, but there are all kinds of well-behaving app casualties. Mostly you should use a task manager to view stats on resource usage to identify bad apps and then get rid of them.
(sorry, no url link for n00bs) lifehacker.com/5650894/android-task-killers-explained-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
Also, yes Sense is much slower than cm6 and I haven't even been tempted to go back.
OHHH! yea thats why android 1.5 always crashed when killing tasks. Thanks. So whats a better way to free up memory? Oh, and does anyone have a way of launcher pro actually working with Cm6? Because it seems to sorta do the animations and tasks in a "play by play" sort of way. Thats why i reverted back to stock rom. Sorry about all the questions, im still pretty new to the whole android thing.

homescreen slowdown because of browser

If I'm on the browser for an extended period I start to get a slowdown on my homescreen after pressing to go home after browsing
I go to manage apps and see that my browser is using 72 MB of ram and keeping other apps open. I also see that part of it is the bookmark widget
When I'm on my nexus s I never see any sort of home screen lag or applications taking up anything more than 20 MB of ram
Did they do something different on honeycomb with ram management?
Also live wallpapers work beautifully on my nexus s but seem to add too much lag on honeycomb

They should have disabled them until they are more fluid. I'm sure they set them on demo versions at Verizon or best buy and when people test the tablet they think its slow and laggy because of this
I'm wondering if its because of the larger screen

A lot of Lag

I got this phone yesterday and I must say it looks gorgeous. I set It up adding my emails, widgets etc and then experienced a lot of lag while scrolling on the social hub widget, even the Internet browser takes ages to load and struggles while scrolling.
I'm really unhappy now as my gs2 didn't face such an issue and i was expecting this to be smoother considering it has a faster processor.
I don't want to root this phone for security reasons.
Is anyone experiencing this issue and is there a solution?
Any info would be helpful.
Thank you.

What widgets are you using?
I have about 15 icons, weather widget and digital clock wiget on one screen and nothing on any of the other screens.
Hmmm that might be the problem. I'm using widgets on every screen. I've gone a bit widget bonkers! Having said that I had the same widgets on the Galaxy S2 and didn't suffer lag issues.
I have rooted and am waiting for some decent ROMS to appear, I'm sure that will fix???

Hi
Hi friends.
I also notice lag and Im using the stock launcher and with almost no widgets.
Apart from the screen issues that one will notice if he uses the devise for reading.
I had the SGS2 before and the difference is noticable.
Such a pitty for such a promising devise.
I changed screen density and only use one screen with go launcher set to have 7x7 grid size. I have 2 widgets, Weather and BBC News, I use upward swipe to open app drawer and not noticed lag at all when in use but I do get around a 1/2 to 1 second delay when pressing power or home to wake the device. Not the end of the world but would be cool if it was instant like the S2.

It's the same on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and it's never changed so I wouldn't worry about it.
There were some threads on the SGS2 forum about ideas on how to fix it if I remember rightly.
I love my note but i would have to agree that SG2 is faster compare to note . ( that make ppl feel like the note is laggy as they have used SG2 before )
؟؟؟
thank God the device is super fast....there is no lag at all.....just hard-reset the device and enjoy it
Launcher Pro is much smoother on my Note than ADW...
ADW EX is lightning fast with density hack at 240, all the others lagged.
Obviously mine is rooted. Also using Roboto font.
I have lag
I am comparing when zooming out all the home screens and then selecting one. The animation is faster and smoother on a HTC 4G. ALSO, sometimes when waking the phone the screen will flash the unlocked screen for a second before the lock screen appears ie see your messages app then you see the lockscreen and have to unlock the phone. I just reset the phone thinking this would help but it didn't. Coming from the iphone I am sad that everything isn't backs up like the iphone without rooting. This lag is more picky than a problem. I don't understated lag when the phone is so powerful.

Yeah I agree, I don't understand the lag with such a powerful device. I suppose it is possible that Samsung has used cheaper, slower dram in this phone. Even the Plus animation when the phone boots micro-stutters. Of well, hopefully in a month we can get our hands on the Nexus.

That's the nature of Android, because so many manufacturers can use it, developers need to program apps for all of them in mind and seeing they all have the potential to utilise different hardware you can't expect a developer to be able to foresee these things.
What we need to do is just put a request to the developers and ask if they can make it compatible with the Notes graphics card/drivers making it lag free.
This is exactly why virtually all native Samsung apps run fantastic, because their devs know the hardware and drivers hence know how to get full potential.
What would fix this is every time Google releases a version like ICS they should state exactly which hardware will be ALLOWED to run on this platform. But then you lose the openness.
It's a double edged sword, you have to take the good with the bad..
This is unfortunately where apple shines with the iphone because they make the OS and the device. If they just loosened up on their OS a little then we wouldn't be talking here

The Note will ONLY get better with each update/support from either Samsung or our beloved developers.. And that's a one way direction.. O)nly better..
Guys the reason for the lag is the constant downclocking of the cpu to 800 or 500mhz as well as unnecessary services apps running in the background. I believe it can be optimised..

Not really, mines rooted and have uninstalled all uneeded apps. Although adw doesn't lag anymore, other apps do like Facebook and even ES file explorer.
There is a dedicated gpu which isnt utilised for most of the apps which lag, this is the problem at hand.
The iphones been running a sub 1ghz cpu and less than 1gb of ram for long before android adopted them, but doesnt share the same issues.
But as stated it can only get better from here.

Agreed in some respects...
Have you installed AnTuTu CPU master?
I have noticed that when the CPU is operating at 800mhz everything lags.
When I force the CPU to 1400mhz using AnTuTu the lag is present for the first homescreen swipe in ADW EX (DPI 260) then it's smooth as butter.
I have also observed this behaviour in launcher pro.
A guy on here recommended using BetterBatteryStats to possibly locate the apps/background services that are unnecessary hogging the CPU.
Fully agreed on the Iphone performance - but that is clearly due to software strictly tailored for hardware.
Android requires brute force due to software required to work on multiple devices
Gotta say tho my Galaxy Tab 7 (First Gen) with overcome is way faster in general operation than the Note... Until I force the processor to stay at 1400mhz - then it just flies.
Clearly the Note has a lot of potential.
