HD2 roms without HTC Messaging or with a replacement - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development

I'm a super-heavy texter, and the HTC app for text messages is horribly slow, even when i dont have many texts saved... I know there are some roms that do not have it, is the standard windows mobile application really faster? or is there some better alternative?
Could anyone sugest good ROMs with a messaging application other that the HTC one?
Thanks

Try NRG or Elegancia roms, Both of them come without HTC messaging clinet

sigh, the problem is these 2 roms are both hosted on hotfile, and where i stay (Singapore) i can never download off hotfile...
any mirrors lying about?

Many thanks wsayed, I tried Elegancia but i really dont like that rom... horrible icons and poor performance... but i did manage to see that the standard windows mobile sms client is way faster than the HTC one... so i'm going to try NRG now

Try kwbr. He offers a version with and without HTC Messaging.

Is there not a way to just install standard WM messaging on the stock rom? I'm quite happy on stock but I'm not crazy about the HTC messaging either.

OMG, HTC Msg is so horrible. You can have more 100 sms. From 50 onwards you starting to feel something wrong!

Yes you can:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
And to answer OP's question - Yes, it is very fast
However, if you want HTC msg, you can do use MyPhone to archive sms. Trying to keep around 50 sms each time. This has been working well for me!

Here's another one... Miri's HD2 series.
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1786
Much better when HTC messaging is not included in the rom... text messages sync properly with Exchange 2010 and the unread bubble is always correct.

Try my roms :d no htc messaging, hosted on vbn and ul.to, tmous and non tmous compatible

[REQ] Classic WM texting patch for Sense 2.5 (19222911.0)

hey there,
since using sense as Homescreen i was alway mad about these "modern" messaging clients (the odd manila texting that doesnt even count charakters & the slow HTC messaging client as u have on the LEO)
for now ma rom (valkyrie 5.4) has the ability to use the classic texting (via start -> text) and the "modern" manila texting via sense-> textTab -> click on message)
Even by tabbing "all messages" i end up in the classic wm-message listing.. (and thats nearly what i want)...
Is there kinda fix, that tabbing on a message would bring me to the classic WM -view (the coloured one)? I remember there was a manila file in sense 2.1 you just could replace and it worked..
but for now i need it for sense 2.5 (landscape ability).
Hope you can get my point.
Thanks in advance
Yes there is one. Search for Message fix, or here is the link.
Try my ROM out, it doesnt have messaging client in it...
thanks so far.
this patch only discribes how to enabel WM classic messaging.
By point is that i want to change the behaviour when tabbing on a message in the messaging tab of sense 2.5.
even with this patch above i end up in the htc contacts menu/sms tab.
and THATS what i want to be the classic WM interface.
as i mentioned, it worked somehow with a fixed manila file in 2.1 ....
Take a look at this thread
Look for the cab that includes Zenyee's tweak
It is a mod that install the messaging client from sense 2.1 to sense 2.5
This sense 2.1 sms client loads MUCH faster than the one in 2.5, looks way better than the WM sms client, and shows character counts
When you tab on All message it brings you to the classic wm sms interface
Granted it is still not perfect...but it works very well imo
hmm, thats really nice one; not the classic screen, but it works as well...
someone here who has already made a cab of it?

[REQ] Auto SMS Archiver.

As has been noted around the forums, the Manila messaging client (although handy and nice looking) is a laggy piece of software when it starts to have more than around 20 SMS's.
What we need is a program that would scan the SMS', and if there is more than 20, the 21st onwards get moved to an archive folder. Similar to what the iPhone does. Trying to handle 200+ messages is a real headache. (I used to dabble in 500+ plus delete down to 20-30 now)
On the most powerful phone, the HD2, a simple messaging app lags to hell so I have to disable the Manila messaging client and use the standard WinMo one, although practical, isn't very intuitive.
not any interest in anything like this?
I used to have issues with the SMS lag on the HD2 and was manually archiving using MyPhone, which is great for that.
However, that was when I was using stock ROMs (or <= 1.66 ROMs at least).
I flashed one of Dutty's ROMs (HG v0.8) because I wanted all the Sense upgrades, and all my SMS problems have now gone. I've got over 500 SMS on my phone at the minute, and it exhibits no lag whatsoever.
Maybe look at a new ROM. I would strongly recommend a 2.0+ ROM as they seem a lot more stable than the earlier ones.
Hope this helps

It's a start at least. Maybe Dutty did some "special magic" with his Holy Grail ROM. Ah well, keep going mate - you'll sort it.

It's the HTC messaging client - it's not a different one. It's just a newer build.
The HTC Messaging Client 2014 ?
This is the last one, and my 40 SMS are enough to slow down the phone when opening the messaging client.
My Build is 2014.2230.
I see on another topic that is e 2014.2622, you have this one ?
I saw on another WinMo 6.5's ROM that the messaging client was the same one on WinMo 6.1. The messages are sort 10 per page, so the loading time is merely inexistant.
Can someone confirm that ?

What HTC messanger version is this?

Does anyone know what version of the HTC messanger is and where I could possibly find a cab file to install it? it's partially installed in the energy rom but when you click all messages it goes back to the default WM one which I don't like, if found the cab for the version that's stock on the HD2 which is of course extremely laggy, this version however is not laggy while keeping the hole contacts linking thing of the HTC messanger.
is there not an update on htc's website?
I wonder about this as well...

That's Manilla messaging that is part of the Sense UI. It's not a fully integrated messaging as you will find in Sense 2.5 roms. NRG removes HTC messaging from his roms but that portion of it can still be accessed when using messages from Sense home screen. It's the same thing with Sense 2.1 for TP2 & earlier devices.
There are full HTC messaging .cabs available in the apps & themes forum, look for the HTC Messaging 2014 thread, but it's not going to look like that.

new HTC messenger for Tilt 2 / TP2??

So, is this available for tilt 2?? Will it run without breaking it?
showthread.php?t=700495
on xda-developers forum because i'm a new member and I can't post links!
Thanks
Eh not sure but I say if the current native WM SMS client works, then why fix what's not broken?
I love the speed and simplicity of it ;p.
Well, my primary problem with the primary messenging software is that it is sooooo slow! It takes forever to open a conversation, and then the softkeyboard opens, closes, then opens again. so annoying.
ideas?
what are the specifications of the rom you are using?
is it using manila 2.5?
just tried it, hard resetting, I would say stay away from it
Thanks supernova, I think you saved a lot of us a lot of trouble lol!!!

:-D no problem I was hopping it would work too, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=617142 that rom has virsion 1.5 built into it, it works grate.
What is the difference between HTC messenger and default WinMo messenger? Because my Tilt 2 has the HTC keyboard and stuff, idk if it has messenger though.
In your opinion, is it worth the ROM flash?? I've never done it before, and there's plenty of info to do it so that's nto a problem, but just wondering!
Regards
Smith
In my opinion it is well worth it, this is actually the 1st rom I have flashed that used this messenger and I like it a lot, my fav part is it actually closes and opens when you want it to insted of clicking it and waiting plus for some reason I perfer Windows 6.5.5 to the 6.5.3.
Your sig says you're using Cell Pro 8.1, but I only see up to version 1.3 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=617142&highlight=cell+pro
Where did you get your ROM from?
Thanks

Difference between hTC messenger and Windows
Windows Messenger uses iFrames (slow)
htc messenger looks like it uses program windows instead, but it does have problems reading from the Messaging database last time i checked(send a message and wont see it on screen for a little) but the Windows mobile messenger does sometimes freeze when its loading from the messaging database, and the program becomes unstable and wont open again without a softreset.
htc messenger looks like it belongs with sense, and Windows messaging looks like Windows messaging (outlook) blech..
htc messenger consumes a little more RAM and is believed to cause some lag problems, but Windows messenger isnt believed to exhibit either.
Im gonna install the new Htc messenger now and give it a go and ill repost here. Im using energyrom GTX

im am using 1.2, i dont update my sig a lot sorry for the mix up
Awesome
I'm pretty excited to flash to a different ROM, because I just had to do a hard reset today lol so maybe a custom ROM will be more stable
yea they usualy are more stable, 3 thinks you should test as soon as you flash lol 1: make sure you can send MMS. 2: Make sure you can recive MMS 3: make sure the data connection works.
nothing quite like getting everything set up and loaded only to figure out the MMS dosent work and you cant figure out why lol
Just updated to Cell Pro 1.2 ... INCREDIBLE!!!
SO much faster than stock, way more features, easier to use, and a lot less crap!
You guys rule haha thanks!
Regards
Smith
I have to say the htc messaging 1.8 (build 2015 and 2016 depending on what your rom needs) runs way way better then the old version. No more lag, pictures actually have a thumbnail preview in the messaging window, secure box... just awesome
Well I'm running Cell Pro 1.2 so idk if it'll take the new one??

Find out if the rom is using a 2015 or 1016 manila build. If so then yes you can use the new one.
Ok, my ROM is using manila v 2.5.20122227, so I cannot use the new messenger?
From the sounds of it, it would be a great thing to have, so if I cannot use the new messenger, how could I change my version of manila to be compatible?
Thanks

[Q] Is it possible to transfer the HTC-Mesenger from the HD2

Hi,
as T-Mobile has released a new ROM (Vers 3.15) for the HD2, and SMS is much faster in it, I want to know if it is possible to copy the messenger from the HD2 to my HD mini (own both -mini (unbranded) for my wife, and HD2 (T-Mobile germany brand) for myself))?
Kind regards
Groby
I'd be interested in this one too.
I am also looking for a replacement for the standard slow and buggy sms application of HTC. Are there any third party sms applications with a threaded view?
interesting topic, waiting too
I've done what the zenyee patch does, but with a few registry changes so it doesn't load the patch at startup, which is kinda buggy.
combine that with SMSatHand (with threaded view) and you've got quite a nice replacement
I would like having the htc app back though, but it's just too damn slow...

What about mms? Do you use mms?
don't know if it works, I don't use mms myself, but in this thread it states that it should work with Arcsoft MMS
