Video out via 3.5mm jack - Vibrant General

HAS anyone picked up that nokia 3.5mm cable to rca connector on the 3.5mm jack on the vibrant (TMO GALAXY S ONLY!!) to see if video and audio gets sent out? It might only appear when you actually connect a tv... so if you have it check it out and let me know.. with rooting, flash support soon, bluetooth keyboard and mouse... i wont really need a laptop.

I ordered a 3.5mm cable to 3 rca connector last week but it's not Nokia.
I'll let you know when I get the phone.

Yes, both audio (stereo) and video is sent via the 3.5mm cable, used this to watch a movie the other day.

You've done this with the samsung vibrant? Only reason I ask is i'm trying to confirm that t-mobile left this feature in. Have seen both yes and no.

I just ordered my cable for 1 cent

Is there a specific cord needed to make this work?

what exactly is the process i know you go to setting/sound and display/tv out/check the tv out box and then put tv system on PAL? or NTSC? I attempted to use the Apple brand 3.5mm to Video/RCA out cable and it didnt work so........?

yeah i had one that the red was the video

I plugged mine into a Zune (Gen 1) AV cable that I have connected to my head unit in my car...turned on TV out and it worked like a champ.
FWIW, Avatar on the Vibrants is DRMed and it disables the TV out when you play it. You can watch the trailer just fine, but firing up the actual movie brings up a message about not being able to display it on the TV.

[Q] TV out issues on the Vibrant via 3.5 mm jack

So, I have been trying to get the TV out option to work properly on my Vibrant using a standard 3.5 mm to RCA composite cable. I have tried 4 different cables on 2 different tvs and also via a Sony A/V receiver. I reset the phone and tried again, and I have also exchanged the phone for a new one, and prior to installing any additional software, I re-attempted to get the video to display properly on the tv.
In each case, the result was the same: audio would play, but the noise was much louder than the desired audio -- too much noise and audio distortion to even comfortably listen to music from the phone. The video never displayed clearly -- it was always garbled, with just enough detail in places to make you believe that video was somewhat being sent.
The cables used were not Samsung specific cables, just standard 3.5 mm to RCA composite cables including a brand new set purchased at Radio Shack. Does the feature require a Samsung specific cable? (None of the comments I have seen suggest that this is the case, though they did not talk about the cable being used at all.)
My tvs are rather old -- both over 7 years old: one is a 55 in Toshiba 720p HD projection screen, though I did not use it with the HD inputs, of course. Just used one of the standard analog video input connections. The other is a Panasonic 27 in digital comb based set.
Has anyone had any difficulty using the tv out functionality?
Thanks
Did you change the setting from pal to ntsc? Or try to flip the red and yellow cords?

Are you using a 3.5 mm plug with 4 contacts and 3 RCA plugs? The ones with 3 contacts 2 RCA plugs won't work.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
All cables used had the 3 RCA out connectors. I generally matched up the colors, but I do recall at least once swapping the cable ports of the connectors into the tv.

I thought you were supposed to use a usb to hdmi connector to have video out. Samsung lists such a wire on their website.
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...detail&subsubtype=data-cables-kits&returnurl=
Yes, the tv out setting was ntsc, though I toggled it several times just to make sure it did not make a difference.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
for most ppl you have to switch the red and yellow connector.
so it would be like this:
Red = Video
Yellow = Right Audio channel
White = Left Audio channel
so make sure u plug the red connector into the yellow port on the TV!
Both methods are supported. The 3.5 mm jack is the most commonly used at this time due to the micro usb to hdmi cable not being readily available yet.
As for switching the connector ports, it did not make any difference for me. Yellow into red, and red into yellow resulted in the same results or lack of results.
It's almost like the tracking is off. One thing I just noticed its that when plug in the cable, the tv menu is also now skewed when opened but then displays correctly when I remove the RCA connectors.

The cord I bought from radio shack didn't work but the one off of amazon needed the red and yellow switched...

I picked mine up from the local Radio Shack and it works great the quality was as good as it gets for non-hd. (not listed on their website, but they have it in the stores) Part#1603686 With this cable the red is the video and yellow and white are sound. Amazon also sells the exact same cable for cheaper. In the store it is $29.99 on amazon it is $9.95. Beware what cable you buy because from trial and error I found out that some cables will not work no matter what way you switch the colors (they look exactly the same but the wiring to the jack is different). There is a ground on some cables that bridges the audio and video pins on the phone and just causes a buzzing no matter how you plug them in.

So, it is encouraging to know that there have been cables that were proven to be the issue, and not the phone.
With regards the cable purchased at Radio Shack that worked, can you confirm the product number? I ask because the one I bought seems like it might be the same: 16-3686, but the number you listed was 1603686. Actually, as I look at the receipt, it comes up as the same product number you listed.

Might be a dumb question but did you plug it all the way into the phone? I have a silicone case on my phone and if I dont take it off the plug wond go all the way down into the phone.
If it is plugged all the way in and won't work, then take it to radio shack and exchange it for another one, then if it still doesn't work you probably have a bad output and need to exchange your phone for another one. But I can verify that this is the cable I have and use every day and it works very well.
Did your first phone have the same issue?
Thanks, the3dman13.
I do have a sleeve on my phone, but I had long removed it thinking it might be a factor.
Nonetheless, my issue is resolved. As you had confirmed the cable to be compatible, I tried it out on a 3rd tv, and reversing the cables as you suggested worked.
In summary, some cables don't work regardless of how you plug then in, and some (older?) tvs apparently can't handle the signals.
Thanks all for your assistance!
Now if one of my original cables will work, I can save some money (although one had failed already even on the compatible tv.) If not, I will try the one you mention on Amazon.

i have a cable just like this that came with my archos jukebox 20gb mp3 player that i paid 300$ for almost 10 years ago, i wonder if it works. the player didnt do video, but the cable it came with had red white and yellow as well as 3 stripes on the headphone jack.
my phone should arrive tomorrow ^_^
Not sure what the benefit of the rf modulators would add unless they by chance can handle the single better than the built in RCA connections on the tv. Perhaps. It's an interesting idea.
As for the archos cables, these are among the cables I tried without success.

HDMI Connector cable

Hooked up my Acer to my HDTV with a HTC cable I had (HTC HDMI Cable - D-type to A-type connector) . Really nice quality and it mirrors the Acer (meaning whatever is shown on the Acer is shown on the TV). This is nice after my experience with my HTC EVO 4g phone... only certain apps on the phone would output to the TV. A little of the display was cut off as my HDTV has limited overscan, but it was great for watching websites with flash video or watching downloaded movies.

I love it, and it works exceptionally well. I have been playing NFS Shift on my 90 inch screen and looks every bit as good as on the tablet screen. I was a little concerned with what the quality was going to be like, but my worries were put to rest. I had my droid x hdmi cable that work with the tab perfectly. It's a good thing cuz I never used it for my droid x as it does not mirror the display like this tab does. I give kudos to Acer for building an outstanding product.

Cable Sensitivity
My HDMI out is very sensitive to the position of the cable. For instance, if I lay the Acer on a flat surface the HDMI out works great. Once I lift the tablet and cause any downward strain to the HDMI connection I lose the signal. If I hold the cable in place while holding the tablet I get the signal again.
Is this a defect specific of my tablet or is this an issue with the connection using mini HDMI? If a few of you are playing NFS I'm assuming I may have a loose HDMI out connector.
Faulty HDMI out
Well I took the Acer back to BB after further inspecting the connection. The HDMI out of the A500 was so loose that the slightest movement caused the output connection to be lost. Best Buy was extremely accommodating including offering to custom cut an anti-glare screen protector that I had applied myself in order to match the product I was exchanging.
We tested the device's HDMI output and all is well. Wel except me having to start over and re-configure a new tablet
Good to hear. My cable should be arriving today but I think I now made a mistake buying a 6' cable. It was only $4.50 so ill see how it works ands will probably get a 15' for playing games.

A500 not connecting to TV through HDMI
Hey all,
Seeing as you are discussing cables and HDMI here, figured this may be the best spot for my question.
I recently bought an A500 tab 32GB and have been trying to connect it to my Panasonic 127cm Plasma TV through HDMI.
Ordered a HDMI to HDMI mini cable (type A to C) and tried to connect the tablet to the TV, but no luck.
The Tab screen shows HDMI connected but the TV screen remains black and there is no mirroring at all.
Any advise? Could it be the cable, tab or TV?
Unfortunately don’t have other devices with HDMI that I could test
Thanks for the help

I'm sensing a little sarcasm, or at least I hope you have more faith in me than that.
Edit: Now thats weird, audio worked fine on my other TV.
The TV not working has HDMI coming from my Denon receiverinto HDMI 1, but I use my receiver and surround sound for the audio... Just thought of something though, because the TV volume doesn't work for cable TV unless the receiver is off...
I got this cable from Amazon.com, 15 feet, and it has worked fine on two different tv's.
Eh, starting to wonder if the speakers on my TV are bad. I've used my receiver speakers exclusively for a long time and never use the TV speakers. When the receiver is off, the audio is suppose to bypass the receiver and route the the TV speakers... I get nothing now. And no audio on a completely separate HDMI input on the same TV. The fact I got audio on my second TV is enough fto convince me the cable is fine. Time to talk to Best Buy about my main TV...

Micro USB cable for power and audio out

Does a micro USB cable ---> car charger power + audio 3.5mm connector exist? Coming from the iPhone I had such a cable that was convenient, only 1 connector to plug in the car, not to mention that with 2 cables on the N4 it would be very weird, power at the bottom, 3.5mm jack on top, at least they could have put them on the same side ... While my car has bluetooth, it doesn't support A2DP, my only option is audio through a cable into the AUX in.

You might want to double check that the Nexus 4 has proper USB audio capabilities. The Galaxy Nexus never did, and as such, using the headphone jack or Bluetooth were the only options. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any USB audio for the Nexus 4, but then again, I've never tried or researched.

Bummer
I know for a fact that audio output through the usb port is supported because I've used it. I do not however have any knowledge of the build quality or pinout of that particular cable.

[Q] mini usb to 1/8 stereo (male) plug - is this a thing?

subject about says it all. have a N4 and want to use it in the car for google music, etc.
i have a 1/8 in. stereo input in my stock headunit
i've searched online but cannot find a cable that will allow me to do what i want. basically plug into the bottom of the phone and output audio via cable into the 1/8 in. plug on the headunit. i'm not expecting titles or anything on the headunit. just want audio out.
i couldn't be the only one with this idea.
