Today I become the owner of HTC HERO but unfortunatelly with firmware 1.5. Since this is my first android phone I need from somebody little instruction how to upgrade to VillainROM 12 or some others. I didn't have any experience with such upgrades but I had huge experince with upgrading satellite receivers, lcds, so I believe it won't be so complex for me.

i know this has been tackled here,
but reading thru all the posts still does not help solve my problem, can someone who has experienced the same stresses that i am under and came out winning please help me,
i like many others mistakingly installed the new radio rom upgrade 4.21, and now my phone does not work, what more frustrating is that i cannot active sync onto my XDA, i tried the repair.zip procedure with the sd card but the flash fails at 1%, i would like to remove version 4.21 and install a working radio rom, more importantly i would like to restore my active sync funtionality,
please help

however the hitchhikers guide to the XDA rom problem should be simplified into one working solution and all other posts , binned,

I bought a new HTC P3300. It has come with WM6.0 and default theme. After going through this forum, I found so many new ROM. I have a question? Should I try new ROM, if so which one (what does CUBE and without CUBE means) ?
Also are there any documents on steps which I should follow to update ROM. I have read some thread which says just connect Activesync and upload. Also please note that mine is unlocked SIM. Since I am a newbie, asking so many questions, I hope it is OK.

However, there is no access to android market (not installed on phone).
The gmail contact sync, google calander sync is also not there. anyone can help me with this?
You could always go here for your apps. Sorry can't help with the Google stuff.

You could always try to follow one of the guides, and do a genaric reflash on the rom? Is yours a google, or htc? Easiest way to find out is to check the battery cover, if it says google or htc on it. From there, if what Clinton wrote doesn't work out, just find a guide in the development subforum, and go from there.
mine is the HTC branded one. the thing is, i am not really sure on how to proceed with reflashing the ROMs. tried reading the quides but there are some things i don't understand.
Well if you want to flash a rom you'll need to figure out which SPL your phone uses, see if it's flashable. Here's a list of the SPLs for the Magic. And Here's the guide I would fallow to do the ROM Flash and backup.

as for rom, i am trying out *ION for TW MAGIC users (based on nk02's first release of ION rom)

i can't seem to get past getting root. when i am in fastboot and i want to create a nandroid backup or apply the update, i keep getting Can't mount SD card error.

Yes, I'm. I afraid I can offer very limited help as I don't own a magic, just helping my wife to get her full access to all google services.
I guess as long as adb and fastboot works well on your laptop, thing should be pretty straightforward. As a precaution, don't try rom that 've no positive feedback from other forum user or if you are not sure whether it is for your model ( there are 2 version of magic - pvt32a and pvt32b, the malaysia version is pvt32a ). Finally, flashing radio and spl could be dangerous, definitely not for beginner.

Fews more things to add:
* the daldroid rom include both google services and microsoft exchange client. note that some of the rom out there doesn't include the htc exchange client.
* you will have to manually enter apn ( for 3g access ) after you flash your phone so do note your current apn setting down.
* backup your current rom using nandroid before flash
* a tricky thing here is the sdcard doesn't immediately comes online when you fastboot your phone, sometime u have to wait for a minute.
* the first boot after flash is very slow, be patient ( read somewhere that can use adb logcat to monitor the progress, not sure but u can try ).

I see, thanks for the info. i take the daldroid ROM then. having both google and exchange is good for future use. Do i need to reflash the the radio and spl if i take the daldroid ROM?

Hey folks, novice user here.
Quick background: I've had the HTC Legend for over a year now, it's on the Bell network however I unlocked it the first day I had it with a $5 unlock code deal from RedFlagDeals so the phone is UNLOCKED. I've put SpeakOut! SIM cards into it, it's on a Bell one now, etc.
The thing is, I've never, ever updated the software on this thing, at all. It's on whatever basic firmware came in the HTC Legend box to begin with. About phone says: Firmware Version 2.1-update1, Kernel Version 2.6.29-9e497, Build & Software Number 2.02.666.3
So in a nutshell, can somebody help this novice user get the latest and greatest onto here? I also would like to wipe out all my contacts & account infos etc. and start from scratch
The links and acronyms are all very confusing for me since I'm just trying to learn this all at once, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have subscribed to the thread so I will get replies instantly!

basically becuase bell hasnt released an official 2.2 update you have to downgrade your legend (yes counter productive it seems) then root it(jailbreak it) so you can install custom ROMS which is basically android 2.2 plus lots of extra tweeks

Currently the phone is completely factory software wise and is on the latest 4.4.4. NI2 update. I was trying to root it myself and read through everything and honestly its my specialty.
I am willing to pay someone to get my phone rooted with me. People can message me here with a price and information. I will make payments through Paypal - 50% up front - 50% on completion.

There is only one ROM for 4.4.2 NI2 right now:

And if there were more than one ROM, the recommendation would be to read the OP (first post) of each ROM thread, check out the features listed for each ROM, and decide on your own which ROM to run. Try it out for a while, and if you find you don't like it, try a different ROM. No one can tell you which ROM you are going to like best, you are the only one who can judge that. One one person prefers may not be what you prefer. That is why asking for ROM recommendations gets threads closed around XDA.
