Will the dell be better than the nexus one after 2.2 is released? Also how long!

Streak > Nexus One, unless the Nexus One gets updated to a five-inch screen somehow.

From most of the reviews and the ppl here the Streak > N1 just due to battery life. The n1 no matter which rom I use or what kernal I put on there the battery life just sux. Oh and it doesn't have a 5 inch screen.
Currently I'm selling (trying) sell my N1 over criagslist in preperation for the Streak or if it doesn't come out for TMO, the HTC Vision in sept.

I wish Bigger screen always meant better screen .. I have both desire & streak now & colour & contrast is way better on desire... Streak's screen looks washed out & pixalated

My Desire is good and I think only the screen is going to be a let down on the Streak I am getting, everything else seems better.

You are right .. everthing else IS better but screen (although bigger) is not .. such a shame

I was reading about the supposed HD3 with a 4.5" AMOLED screen and it was written off saying that the manufacturing costs of such a large screen would make it unlikely so I reckon we're unlikely to see a better screen in the 5" size anytime soon, that said I'v seen no issues with the screen when playing with the Streak in the shops.

i have tested this out with my friends nexus one and ive got to be honest, the only real difference i noticed was the N1s screen is slightly brighter. video looks completely the same apart from the streak handling blacks better than the N1

In the U.S. the Nexus One has a MUCH better carrier option in T-mobile.
Dell Streak Att Smartphone Plan:
- $65/mo
- 450 min
- 2 GB of data
Nexus One T-mobile Even More Plus Plan:
- $50/mo (contract free)
- 500 min
- 5 GB of data
If Dell comes out with a T-mobile 3g version I will buy it in a instant. But if I am a slave to Att then I will have to pass...

I stick to PAYG...GIFFGAFF works on o2 locked phones too I believe..NO contract just top up 17:50 (normally 35) for unlimited minutes and texts and net. What more could you ask for?

Unlimited or 500-750mb?
@ap3604 - You guys get 5GB data allowance! Every telco in the UK has just put theirs down to 0.5-0.75 GB

ive always been confused by US cell phone pricing plans. is your plan determined by the phone you have? thats a really odd system if so

Streak or Galaxy tab?!

Hey guys,
I am currently using a nexus one and love it, however i long for a bigger screen. being on Bell in canada there really isn't any options in the 4.3" range and i would love the 5" of the streak. However with the tab launching tomorrow I'm torn between the two.
How is the screen quality? The resolution doesn't compare with the tab however it is smaller. How does it compare to a typical 3.7-4" phone such as my nexus?
I love the fact that i can still pocket the streak and use it as a phone. The tab is definetly no longer in the pocket range.
Has anyone bought the streak and wished they waited a bit longer to get a bigger screen? I imagine its quite an improvement over my nexus, but the tab might be the same improvement over the streak!
Say something to sway me to the streak please! its cheaper lol.

They're two totally different devices. One is a phone that you're meant to carry around, the other is a tablet that's meant to stay in your bag or at home. Which one to gets really depends on what you want to do with it.

It's good, not as vibrant as an OLED screen but quite similar to the Streak. There's no annoying OLED pentile matrix though, which is great.

I have a streak, and bought a Tab anyway. They're for different purposes. Surfing and typing is definitely easier on a tab as it's larger but not too large, but I don't carry it everywhere I go - the streak does that job well for a mobile device.
Reading newspapers and magazines is definitely easier on a Tab as the screen is larger. At the moment the tab is a lot more responsive than the streak too... the official 2.2 that's coming out shortly should fix that.
This is the two next to each other:
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/2546/tabstreak.jpg
I have both a Nexus One and now recently got a Streak. Like the previous poster said its really about your intended purpose. I absolutely love the Streak because the screen is huge but it can easily handle the occasional phone call I may get. I still love my nexus one but I honestly don't know if I could ever go back to such a small screen.
As for the Tab I don't own one but have played with one extensivley and will stick with my Streak for the indefinite future because its truly a mobile option. One of my requirements for a mobile device is that it fits in my pocket which cuts out the Tab. Honestly the Streak is at the max end of the size spectrum for a phone while maintaining the mobility I require.

Dell Streak's battery life is weak with 3G & wifi usage. I passed by a Sprint show booth today, and from they told me, the Galaxy Tab battery life is wonderful...
Thanks for the reply. I guess i need to decide if im looking to replace my nexus one, or have a tablet to compliment it!

Yeah, especially so in the price, you can buy two streaks for one ridiculously overpriced tab
I have to agree about the cost, they've priced it only slightly lower than the equivalent iPad. I also understood that the U.S. version has no 3g support?
I would buy the Streak to test it, you will probably know very soon if the size is ok for you.
I went from the Desire to the Streak, and it still seems like a big enough screen for me, but I tend to use it for more pleasure then business. Although with swype it's not a big hassle to write emails anyways...
If you don't like the streak size, and want to go bigger, Ii would wait until Galaxy Tab 2 comes in the new year, with the AMOLED screen it will be a gorgeous screen. And if thats not important to you, the original Tab will probably plummet in price when the new one comes out..

The US Tab has 3g but no voice. Some have had luck flashing the TMo tab with the Euro firmware to allow for voice, but then they are stuck with Edge because the Euro Tab uses different 3g bands than TMo. Might have more luck with the ATT version when that comes out because ATT uses one of the Euro bands in many locations.
It's probably just a matter of time until the perfect a TMo firmware too, but either way i have a hard time replacing my phone with the Tab if voice is not officially supported by the carrier...
galaxy tab probably but im a bit biased lol
Wow checkbox111 I think you should know what your talking about before posting. Here in Canada the streak off contract goes for 550 from rogers or 675 unlocked so 550 + 550 come to 1100 and the tab off contract from bell is 650 which is a fair bit below 1100.
I used to have a nexus one which i still love but i always longed for a larger screen to comfortably make use of the browser. So the streak was it, It doesn't make sense for me to have two devices when i can compromise and get the something in between. Plus its a phone, something the tab isn't....

Really you don't think him calling everyone who is thinking about buying one dumb is more of an insult then me saying he must not be very good at math lol.He is basically saying the guy who started this post and me and millions of others are dumb.
Anyway I won't post about this again I just thought I'd explain why I came of a little snotty. Sorry
I think if you have a phone your happy with but would like a little more screen on occasion then the tab is the way to go. The streak is easier to carry around but i can't see taking it to a night club where you have to check your coat I already have enough stuff I carry in my pockets.
The other option is if there both on the same carrier then just switch the sim to the phone that you want to use. I know thats what i was thinking about doing but I think I might just buy the tab instead because my galaxy s already has a 4" screen so jumping up to a 5" screen doesn't seem like a big jump for the money.
What are the prices in the US anyway and yes Canada is always a rip off but you get used to it and actually think your getting a good deal.
My Streak is data only, no voice calls which suits me fine and I'm paranoid about breaking it so I'd never take it into a situation like a nightclub. I have a 'normal' unlocked phone for making phone calls.

Still worth buying?

With Gingerbread and the new dual core CPUs on the horizon is it worth it at this point in time to invest $600 to buy a Streak? I really love the idea of the large screen, but there are even rumors of dell's successor to the Streak (Opus One) with a dual core snapdragon and higher res screen on the way. I'm looking for peoples opinion, should I wait or go for the current Streak?

I'm in the same boat and have the same question. I'll probably be using a more camera orientated phone but will probably wifi tether so I'm looking for a tablet to carry around. Galaxy tab and what nots seem nice but I like how the streak is a smaller size and easier to carry around. So is it worth it? Or is there something better for the price?
There is always something better coming on the horizon and like anything in tech, it is old news once you have bought it.
What you have to ask yourself is will the tech that is around now suit your needs and if so, buy it now. By the time those specs arrive in the shops, something better will be on the cards.
Did the 2.2 update bump the WiFi from G to N? (Otherwise, no, it's not, IMHO.)
Agreed 100% Once I started using this thing, my X10 looked like a mini. Even with the 4" screen.

It's not worth buying a new one as it's 5 months old (if that makes any sense).
Why don't you buy a used one at $430, then it's worth it.
Can you stand to wait longer? I would wait it out, depending on your situation.
The Streak has been out around 5 months, and 5 months is a LONG time in tech and CES is right around the corner.

Sure. If you don't mind waiting a ~year for the device, you can wait.
(It's been over 10 months from the initial Dell Mini5 rumors to the actual device available on the market.)
Best buy in U.S has it for $100 this week. You could always try it for up to 30 days, then return it after you find out whats in store for CES.

5 months and still Dell has not been able to release 2.2.. Does not say a lot about Dell's software abilities. Seems like the Streak is just a hobby to Dell
With dual core, what is the battery life going to be like? Seems like the current devices have plenty of power, but the battery life sucks big time.

This is not true.
Dell completed their 2.2 on August 30, 2010.
I purchased my Streak on October 1st (This was the first day it came out here in Australia) and the first thing i did was update to official 2.2 in the car on the way home.
The update is completely OTA and painless.
If you haven't got the update it is probably because you bought your streak carrier locked on a contract, therefore the bottleneck for receiving updates is the carrier not Dell.

Very true. I got mine, as well, and the update was available right off the bat. It was turn it on and "update available!" lol. I love the streak. It's very usable still. Battery life is way better than my iphone 4, and the screen is awesome (I just need apps to be able to make text larger! Because as is it's very tiny!) I think the Dell Streak is great ^^ Camera sucks tho. It's got HORRIBLE shutter speeds.
Yup, Jump on ebay and get yourself one cheaper then $500. I got mine used for $450 and the guy sent me Dells invoice and I have the warrenty information and all. So be cautious as to who you by from.

Looking at A Dell Streak while they are on sale

I am very interested in purchasing a Dell Streak and use it as a phone. I have heard both good and bad about it. I am over all impressed with the device and the pros outweigh the cons. Seeing that it is selling for 400 dollars on dell.com i am willing to invest in one after some knowledge from members within the streak forum. I'm have a Samsung Captivate and its ok but the usability isnt as good. I bricked the Captivate and unbricked it and got a replacement and I just set it down and went back to my blackberry until i found the perfect android phone and the streak seems to be it. Please give me details i should know about. (P.S. I love the red colored streak it reminds me of my Atlanta Falcons!!)
This is one of the FEW devices that can compete with the iphone & truly oudue it. Same speed processor, dual cameras, bigger screen, mobile hotspot feature built in(for 2.2 devices), dual flash with camera, can be seen/used in landscape & portrait modes. Also outclasses the Captivate, or ANY BLACKBERRY.
Feel free to chime in fellow Streakers!!!

The Streak is by far the best all in one device I have ever owned. My netbook hardly gets used anymore. For 99 bucks with a contract, it is a no brainer. I was a WinMo user for the past 10 years but after this device, I will never go back.
Could you post a link to the $400.00 Dell Streak that you see on sale?
I see a 199.00 with a 2 year contract, but the full price is still 549.00
Thanks!
My Captivate officially became the back-up phone, now that I have a device that the gps works.
I loaded the thumb keyboard on my Streak yesterday, and now I can actually type on a touchscreen in portrait mode with my size 17 fingers!
The only thing I use my laptop for now other than to hack/tweak is to download our tv shows so I can watch them using an S-video cable on the tv at the house...
Not to mention the looks and comments that such a big device gets, and the general feeling of superiority it gives you when you tell people that yours is bigger than theirs...and can actually prove it...

It seems that the replacement captivates have the gps working. My replacement one has a working gps and i mean tracking not just locking on. I might keep the cappy as a back up since it is rare to find one with a working gps. Well unless someone just gives me the right amount of cash of course.

do you plan on using your voice/data smartphone SIM with AT&T? I've heard they've been cracking down on that. Do some research as how to get around doing it without getting in trouble. Let us know if you manage to do so without issue.
That is my concern, will AT&T ever support any smartphone larger than 5"?
Streak 5 makes me not want anything smaller, actually maybe smoething around 7" as an all-in-one device.
Ive seen a tab and it looks sweet!

Dell Streak Dead or Alive?

I have a Dell Streak 5. I even have an extra one because of a shipping mix up. I have I think the latest factory rom with super user installed and clockwork recovery. Is this it for the Dell Streak 5? Anything else on the horizon? Or is it just an old phone waiting to die. Should I be exicited about the the new phones with 4G LTE or just be content with my 3G Unlimited and Dell Streak 5 until both break?

I plan to use mine till the next Nexus device in 2012.
sell it as quickly as you can, the dell streak is a ticking time bomb
Keeper for at least another year
I got my unlocked, unbranded Streak 5 last April direct from Dell and am loving it on my still unlimited 3G on AT&T. It is my primary business do-everything phablet. If I had a second one, I would start playing with ROMs.
I'll be happy here until the price points on LTE comes down to acceptable range and wider coverage - maybe this time next year. I would love an LTE/GSM unlocked and unbranded with a similar form factor.
My 1.45 cents (after taxes).

Edit: It was dead and now it's alive again!
I've contacted dell and they say streak 5 is no more. That's why there's a sale here last month.
Quick answer: Dead
helf dead.....i'm only use it as a GPS now
Dead... since the first day it's in the world...
I contacted Dell and they say it's only dead if you believe it is.
i just got one.. so its not dead for me....
gingerbread 2.3.3 (407) installed and tweaked and running pretty good so far.
i dont expect it to be my go to device but it rocks as a your a dirty girl/not getting my real number phone.. and is fantastic as a GPS and PDA for my truck.
just need to do the research and find what is the most stable ROM, yet updated reasonably.
Would have said the Dell Streak was kinda fading away until CM7 came out (see other topic in this section) - now I have that installed its back to being very much alive! If your using the buggy 407 make the effort to get to CM7 - it's not that hard and it is so worth it.
Dell Streak rockin all over again!
So is it officially dead?

legendary
Like Nissan with the beloved Datsun 240Z, Dell will start buying up all the broken and bricked streaks. They will then refurbish them with original parts, flash them all with donut 1.6 and put them to market at a premium and the oleskool collectors will snap them up and store them in vacuum sealed glass case displays.
Well everyone I really like the idea of the Galaxy Note and maybe even the Galaxy Note 2 but you know what I am kinda over the whole phone tablet big screen craze. I think I care more about phone quality, reliability, and speed more than anything. I think I am going to consider the Galaxy Nexus or the Galaxy S III and call it a day.

I never believed in that phone / tablet hype. Any phone bigger than 5 inch is just not even practical, for me that is. It's probably the best for mobile browsing and reading some stuff on the net when I'm on the go but that's it. It can't and will never act like a tablet for my purpose, for that I need a minimum of 9" and therefore it will always be a phone and organizing tool to me.
As for the nexus or s3, I suggest to wait a bit longer and you will probably have a much better (faster/prettier/more capable) device.
Dead. They stopped making it. Only refurbs. I do have one new in the box unopened though.

Alive... But reborn as....
The galaxy note is about the exact same size.just newer tech and a much better support from the manufacture for developers.
The Dell streak, it's dead.but I still love it as a book reader and house wifi device.
