It Can't Get Better Than THIS .. - Streak 5 General

Each phone that is released has something new that makes me want to buy it. Some people want smaller phones, I wanted larger. Larger than this would be nuts .. for me anyway .. I couldn't hold a larger phone. So what is next? What could possibly be better than this? I guess other makers will just try to improve on this phone leaving the size alone.

That is why I am waiting for this one. For me the perfect size is the biggest screen size that will still fit into my pants' front pockets.

"It Can't Get Better Than THIS .."
Thats what she said!

it all comes down to the cpu/gpu i would think. 2ghz+ cpu's, gpu's that rival the psp, how about game streaming like that coming out soon, no need for powerful gpu's then. want to play the latest ps3 game on the go would be no problem with game steaming. but with that kind of option network operators would need to sort out their tariffs.
just a few thoughts

Tbh, I don't find the streak too big. But then I'm nearly 2m tall and can wrap my hand around it pretty easily in portrait mode..

I never really paid attention to your name, lol. I'm quoting a guy who happened to use "sheesh" when he was telling this dude to calm down. I saw it and it made me laugh so hard that people around me here at work asked me if everything was okay.
Aside from that I plan on using the Streak (if released for TMO USA) as my primary phone. I am currently looking for the best bluetooth out there. As I plan to try and not to slap the streak against my face.
From what I've seen and read the streak just seem overwhelming to us Yanks because everything gets smaller and now there is a tablet/phone that is breaking that barrier. When I bought an extended battery for my g1 you should have seen the reaction from ppl. They acted like it was a brick.

I got it because i wanted a Tablet not a phone but now i have used it my TP2 is on the back burner and i use this as my main phone, like i said its outstanding now but when 2.2 is on in sept (i hope) what will it be like then.
If i had a choice of any phone in the world this would win every time but i still do not see it as a phone to me its a Tablet that can make calls what a bonus

BTW .. I have one of the Dell "give-away" phones. Unlocked for ATT and T-Mobile. I am NOT getting a 3G signal. I don't know if that is something I need to turn on or if it should automatically connect to 3G. On my Nexus One I could turn it on and off and I left it off because it sucked the battery dry half way through the day.

Yes, from homescreen, Settings ----> wireless & network settings---> mobile networks in there is the option to "use only 2g networks."

I plan on getting one as soon as they are released here in the U.S. I'm 6'7" or just over 2m tall myself, so I don't think I will have any problems using the phone myself. Actually, it will probably almost look normal in my hands. That's also why I got a Great Dane

Yes, main phone. It is just the right size for me. Perfectly balanced. Yes, ok, it looks a little big when you use it as a phone, but I am 6'3" so I can handle it.
It fits well into your pocket, you have to remember that it is thin. It isn't much bigger than some leather wallets.
I love my device... I can confidently say... I would be hard pressed to go back to a smaller phone now, as I would lose so much in doing so.
The streak is so much more than a phone.
When people (who generally that havent used a Streak) say it is too big.... well that is like saying a laptop is too big for a MP3 player.

The only way they could make it better for the U.S. would be to make a version with T-Mobile 3g bands.
There is no chance I would ever pay $500 for the Streak if I still had to pay $65/mo for voice + data on Att with a 2gb limit.
If Dell actually follows through with a T-mobile 3g version then I will insta-buy it

Why I think the Nexus One will be the best Android phone until the next Nexus phone

My opinion;
Despite all the other HTC Android phones coming the Nexus One will remain on top. The reason why I think this is because having a phone directly from Google itself means you'll get updates before anybody, and popularity from any other 'Droid phone won't beat out a Android phone from Google itself.
So to everyone who has a Nexus One or those people who are scared too get one because another one might make it look obsolete..DON'T WORRY. The Nexus One will remain on top due to the fact that it's from Google itself.
Just my two cents..
I agree with you on that. I just made the leap from the TP2 after running Android on it for a couple of days. I love it. Its awesome.

LOL, I did the same thing. My TP2 is now collecting dust.
So what you're saying is that because this phone is being so heavily backed by Google it will have a very long lifespan?
I think I can agree with that
I came from the CLIQ and man is this phone a speeeeeed demon!
well so far there is very little (to none) support from google......and Nexus One is the worst cell phone experience i have ever had.
The phone is good, the hardware is good, the OS is ok.......It just feels like everything is in beta or made from cheapo parts.

Well, you know, you should lay off from Google a little. This is there first directly sold phone, and they weren't exactly prepared for all the whining and problems people were going to have. I don't know how they didn't expect for nearly everyone to complain, but apparently they weren't exactly ready to join the phone competition. They haven't had to deal with any problems till now because they have been selling their Android powered phones through carriers..
I honestly don't understand how this phone could have so many aggravations for people though.. like the above poster said, you should also be more specific.
The good thing is that if the 3g connection is good, htc/moterola/exc can't put the blame on Google, Google has to accept the blame, thus forcing them to fix it snappy (hopefully like we've seen with the radio haha)!
coming from touch pro 2 the N1 is amazing
gotta be honest i miss the keyboard but its alright
just the fact that the phone has a 1ghz processor tells me that they are palnning to keep it for a while. ive had an iphone 3g too and so far i still like the n1 the best ...
just one problem so far - the youtube player is stupid and slow... =[
other than that 5 stars

Are people still getting dust under the screen...or has that been fixed.I'm debating if I should get the N1.I had the G1 and loved all the mods you could do to it and the N1 has twice the specs so it's a powerhouse and the only phone out there close to those specs is the HD2.Man I just can't decide, maybe I should wait till all the kinks are worked out.

I don't know if there is a limit. But if there is, then there's even LESS reason to send it in right away, like so many people are doing, and then getting phones with the dust issue once again. Get the phone, enjoy, send it back at 11 months.

Why take **** out when it was already their in the first place
All these missing features were already on galaxy S phones and shouldn't have been removed
BTW i have 16GB on phone and 16GB on my external SD and its combination on nandroid, titanium, ROM back-ups/ custom config files/ Themes /720p MKV/AVI movies/ Gameloftgames/MP3s/PICS/PS2, SNES..ect roms/Sub directories for programs all this crap adds up
....Sorry no porn
Sure you dont need all that stuff on hand but its quite covenant not to have to hook up to PC all the time to move **** back and fourth to make space
But yea i could probably manage fine with 16 GB thats why im still debating on getting it
I for one will buy a Nexus S on the 16th! I can't wait! I can live with all the other "shortfalls" that everyone is complaining about.

You got a good point but I have noticed lately that they have been giving alot of props to apple.
Do you think that they are trying to steer the phone makers in adopting these decisions LIKE taking the sd slot out?
Plus maybe these decisions where in the favor of the google devs. Which means since a dev phone it will be sold the same way.
ORRR even better the budget constraints....all these extra things cost money and Samsung thinking this device is going to be sold to a small market share they pulled all the things that make it a multimedia device out of it...
We may never know but you can explain if you have a better idea.Im open minded i'd like to hear some speculation =D

Stop making excuses for Samsung and Google.
This is a Vibrant with a curved screen running on Gingerbread. Nothing more.
I fail to see this as a worthwhile "upgrade".
Im standing up for my self I dont care about making excuses...Ive owned a Vibrant and wish to get stock on it.
Plus SGS phones have faulty GPS and before you even say that they fixed it or even bash me for the excuse. Know that the maps application is a huge part of the Android OS and I would gladly say that I would fork over 550 for one that works and not 500 for one that dosent.

What kind of reactions do you get when people see your dell streak

People ask me is that an iPad? or how do you carry it in your pocket? or is that a phone? or who makes it im going to get one or thats a laptop on your face or is that a gameboy and many more
people always ask me if it is really a phone , the other day on the bus the guy next to me said "you don't see many people with the streak" then pulled his out
A lot of other Droid users are jealous when they see the streak..lol...This might be the best phone i ever owned. And i had the 8125 to the tilt 2 for years.
I had a Droid x Guy come up to me and say I have the biggest cell phone on the market. 4.3 inch screen. I said is that so you haven't seen mine. And he was amazed and jealous and he keep asking to see the phone all night long.

I always get asked what's that? wow how cool.

5/11/11Wed. 4:27pm...This thread is hilarious...I'm a female and i'm not sure if any other female has this phone. I always get comments from other on this device. Let me take a look at your phone."...Oh heck no, no one can touch my phone. I spent $450 for the phone and $50 customize leather case for it.
One comment i got from my friend, "I think she's holding a BRICK not a phone. Look at the phone, it covers more than or her whole face." kaka
"Is that a phone?'

Your red phone is so eye-catching! Nice!
Ever since I've got this phone I've gotten more attention than I've ever asked for. People always look at me like I'm crazy when I pull this thing out of my pocket. This phone is an eye turner for sure and I honestly believe that I've gotten a couple of people jealous because it's a phone/tablet. My co-workers call me "THE PHONE KING" including my supervisors. I've gotten almost all my coworkers the switch for android and now that I brought this bad boy around they always want the same thing and wished that they never signed their two year contracts ( Haha suckers!) I always get the WHO, WHAT, WHERE AND WHEN from people. And for some strange reason people always want to compare the size of their phone to mine. Lol I love this phone and will never EVER settle for anything smaller EVER again.
Love this thread! PMSL!
I really like it when I get the people that watch me with it and ask all those questions mentioned above.
I just tell them,' It's an Android Tablet.' then all I have to do is flip the phone onto it's back and show them the sexy Red shell and the Dell logo, watch their jaws drop to the floor and become hypnotised by it!
'Is it a phone?' they ask again.
'Yes it does have a phone built into it, saves me carrying two things at once.'
'Bit big isn't it?' , 'That's what tablets are good at doing.(Chuckling to myself just loud enough to be heard)'
At that point everything goes a bit quiet and I just leave them there in a David Blaine like trance watching me finish doing something completely amazing with it!(A bit of Swype normally has a good effect on them!)
Now I'm not one for showing off and bragging about my gadgets but since I got this you gotta admit that it really does deserve the attention!
LOL... Nice thread...

Ok so the note is quite big when you hold it to your ear but you have to remember, or i did anyway I was used to a smaller device. So the trade off for this for a short time before it feels like the norm...better web browsing, great battery life and the ease of being able to snapshot anything write directly to the screen and get any info I have about any given subject out there so much easier. Il take the trade off any day
Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter.

Its no problem at all to hold it to your ear. It does require two hands to use it (maybe I can learn to use it with one hand after I've had it for more than a day.)

The Massive Phone Held to your Ear

I think it's odd how many people say the Note is too big, or you will look funny holding the phone up to your ear. I make at least 40 calls a day, and I do not use a headset, and not once has anyone said I look funny holding the phone to my ear. Maybe I do look funny, but nobody has ever mentioned it, or even looked at me funny. I think the first few days I used the Note, I felt a little weird, but now I don't even think about the phone size.
opps, wrong section, sorry

40 calls a day? You must be fame...
I live in Colombia and I'm traveling weekly around Latinamerica and here phone operators sell it as a Tablet?? People keeps asking me why I just don't buy a regular phone instead of using the "tablet" as a phone.

If someone doesn't want to get the Note because he or she "will look funny with it" and not because it's too big or any other actual reason - there's something wrong with that person, not the phone. Enough said

+1
My opinion is exactly the same, people are saying different things but I think just because they are jealous.
I don't run one, but I am a busy guy in a big business.

It doesn't matter when it's big enough to satisfy expectations my friend
I agree w. OP. I am a Prof on a 3 campus university. I am always walking around them and the research labs. I have no problems with putting the Note in my front pocket, talking on the phone with it my ear, using it with one hand and of course being able to do email, schedule, find a room number of a meeting - all while on the fly walking w/ or w/o the pen and usually using the dead accurate voice commands and dictation - never get a strange look.
I use the note like a computer and get things done with such less frustration than past phones ( moving between touch, pen and voice and using allot of gesture controls for speed). I am on one campus when a crisis happens on another ( I am a Grad Chair for a Interactive CS school on one campus and Dir of another small program in Cog Sci on another), checking email and voice inputting a reply or room number or person to call - saves me hours of frustration if I had let the problem grow and not made a quick fix or alleviated with a quick email.
The phone is a godsend and the 'it just looks to big for me being on my hip bus in Manhattan with my hipster friends ( hey I grew up in Manhattan) is just stupid press BS which we have to read all the time. Although 5 million of us know better.

Years back, the smallest phone was the trend and if you owns a small expensive phone, you would be the talk of the room! But nowadays, large device/screens are the growing tend. 4.3-4.6 inches screens seems to be the most popular but I think it won't be too long before the majority of people would adopt a 4.8 or 5.5 inches phone!
Thing is we all like to browse websites/check emails/watch photos and videos on the go, and to be able to do this with ease, we need more screen space. The Dell Streak 5 was great but it was built with very outdated hardware/specs. Samsung definitely has won the consumers by making the Note stands out of the market with the S Pen and some top hardware specs.
