The last WM6.5 phone - HD2 General

Hello everyone, I have been a fairly long time xda member (a little over a year), starting with the Touch Pro. I remember a time when new ROMs for the TP would be released almost daily. Since the release of WVGA phones, VGA devices such as the TP have lost a lot of the attention that they used to have. Now a days, if you want steady ROM releases, you have to have a WVGA device. In addition, Sense modifications are being made that take advantage of more powerful processors, such as the one on the HD2.
I have been thinking about purchasing an HD2 for the last few months, but lately I haven't been so sure. It seems like Windows mobile 6.5 is a dying OS. More and more devices are starting to run the Android OS and the new Windows Phone 7 seems to be stealing the spotlight away from WM6.5. I am worried that HTC and other companies aren't going to make handsets that run WM6.5 anymore, and focus their efforts on Android and Windows Phone 7. Is the HTC HD2 the last Windows Mobile 6.5 phone that will be manufactured? Will Microsoft and HTC slow down or stop their efforts to release new builds and software for WM6.5?
I guess my real question is, would it be worth it to make the upgrade to the HD2, or should I wait and see how Windows Phone 7 turns out? Or, should I jump ship on Windows Mobile all together and get an Android phone? I have played with Android, and I like Windows Mobile a lot more.

yes this has been talked about a lot, the HD2 may be the last of the 6.5 phones, but I , myself, am not worried..
As long as XDA is around then we will have support for these phones, as well, as I am sure, a "non-official" version of WP7 for it ...
MS is going in a diff direction but as of June they were still releasing new builds of both 6.5 and 6.5.x , so MS has not dumped it yet ..

To hear some of the upper-ups at TMO tell me, as we have a corporate account with 20 HD2's, 6.5 is going to stick around, as more of an "enterprise OS", whereas WinPho7 will be the consumer push.

So now that HTC have told HD owner to go **** themslves (with regard to WM 6.5)

... do you, the devs of xda developers think it is feisable to run a WM 6.5 ROM at optimum performance on a Touch HD? Okay so we dont have the dedicated Windows Key, but surely we have the spec to run things such as the honeycomb
why ? Where told HTC to not suppport HTC Touch HD any further ?
hans
Did they? how silly of them.
dontworry key mapping is trivial
So, any links to back up that HTC won't release a updated rom?
link #1 - MS statement
"no devices in the market today will receive official 6.5 updates"
link #2 - HTC statement
"customers of the Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2 will get 6.5 upgrades for free"
So forget about official upgrade for out Blackstone..
So that means no WM6.5 with right updates for us huh?
No. To be honest, why should they? It's a major upgrade, and would cost HTC money to implement.
Bug fixes we are entitled to, not a new OS.
sorry to say
this has always been the same with WM.....
GET USED TO IT
Well I can't say that I'm particulary bothered about missing out on a free official upgrade to 6.5. From what I've seen so far Microsoft have just done what we've all be doing for some time now, that is making the OS more 'finger friendly'. I'm quite content with my HD now after installing some apps and tweaks to achieve this. Most from the pages of this wonderful forum.
And as for the honeycomb style today page.....they can keep it. Ugly!
To be honest why bother with 6.5 !!! Like all recent upgrades from MS it is just eye candy and nothing more...... Nothing radical or new just a knock off of the eye phone... The HTC Touch screen is more novel than MS....... Be nice if they innovated.....
Im not so bothered on the today section its the better finger menus i think will be good.
I think WM 6.5 looks great and IS A MUST for the Touch HD.
I also think it is absolutely customer ... off giving not wm 6.5 as a update - its ok to take money for it.
As you XDAlers always complain about apple - look at them - they improve the OS every 3 month and give new features and bug fiexes.
We with our nice HTC gadgets don-t get updates or new features.
I have my htc touch hd and love it, but the software is a hell of sloe any you can write as much as you want - WinMo 6.1 ist fuc... slow.
Take the G1 and see what the hardware is capable

They have to. OS X Mobile does not have proper Bluetooth support, multitasking support, MMS support, copy&paste support, etc., so most advanced user are really angry.
Windows Mobile, on the other hand, is mature OS. There is not much reason to upgrade from Win Mobile 6.1 to 6.5.
I've already talked with the manager of the distributor (father of a friend) here in my country before I bought the phone. They really said that they will not give updates to get the 6.5. but if xda-devs can make a rom out of it, it still wont be official. Hopefully MS solves the auto answer call when taking out the phone, i hate using s2u2 cuz there are sometimes delay and wastes a couple of rings (caller side)
Come on guys. 6.5 ? Honeycomb interface and that is about it, right ? Who cares since most of advanced users use 3rd-party UI anyway. It has FingerMenu version too and IE 6, but they are already here on HD
And since Diamond2/Pro2 will have 6.5 - HD will have it too. May be not officially, but ...
Listen ... I had HTC Wizard with WM5, which had never been officially upgraded. Did not stop me from have it with WM6.1 Pretty sure even Wizard will have 6.5, why not HD ? Dont worry about it.
is the ui all that 6.5 will bring? no additional backend features/settings?
Till yesterday i wanted WM6.5 in HD badly... actually, i still want it.
But now what i really really really want is the new TF3D
Jesus. Are only novice users writing here You want WinMo 6.5 Head over to the ROM section of THIS forum and you will get at least 2 WinMo 6.5 ROM's TODAY They are with early BETA versions of the OS, so you can see things others will MAYBE see in 7-8 months. That's the really cool thing about HTC devices. You always get the good stuff first
On the other hand...HTC actually offers WinMo ugrades for premium phones. Many WinMo 5 phones (including my old Artemis) got an official WinMo 6 upgrade and my Polaris recieved WinMo 6.1 as did the Kaiser, HTC Touch etc.
So stop complaining. The VERY first WimMo 6.5 ALPHA leaked for the...Blue Angel. For those not knowing this great device: The Blue Angel is shipped originaly with WinMo 2003 (not even SE) and is 5 years old.
Here see a Video people demonstrating WM 6.5

Its not so well performing, as I hoped, maybe it'll get better.

class action against HTC/Microsoft?

What do you guys think of getting involved in a class action against HTC/Microsoft if HD2 is not allowed WP7? Now that WP7 is announced, many software companies are going to stop (or already stopped) developing for WinMo 6.5 and we are left outside with an already bricked 2 month old device (it's not even out for USA). I don't like paying $1.000 (yes it is that expensive where I live) for a device which will be outdated in 2 months. HTC and Microsoft should be more loyal to their customers than that. What do you all think?
HTC and Microsoft never promised a WP7S upgrade.
If you're thinking about raising a class action for something that wasn't in the contract of sale, you are, as we say in Scotland, an eejit (idiot).
Sell your HD2 now and be phone-less for 6 months, then buy a Wp7s capable phone. Or at the very least wait for an official announcement on whether it will be upgradable or not.
they never promised an upgrade, but they never said that we won't be able to use WP7 apps as well. Even when you buy a desktop PC with Windows, you're given the option of free upgrade when the new OS is imminent, else no one would buy. And that's when you can still perfectly use all the new applications on your old OS. Don't you feel kinda being cheated, is it only me??
bricked device? it still works doesn't it? you've got a year or so before 7 really hits the mass market, that doesn't stop your phone from working NOW.
do you look at cars the same way? I got my Renault Laguna, it's made in 2001 but I'm not moaning because they don't let me upgrade to the nice shiny 2010 model engine just because i have an older version.
I don't get the complaining about being able to have 7 on their phone when clearly it doesn't have the hardware (4 point multi touch, 3 buttons etc) that windows 7 needs.
I'm sure MS or HTC will take the OS as far as they feel like before 7 rolls out and I would not doubt that some of the clever code monkeys here on XDA will be able to cook up a fantastic 7 ROM that will work in some way on our currently working and rather impressive HD2's
why are people complaining about not having win7 available on the device when it is out in about 7 months time? Did you buy the HD2 SOLELY on the basis it would have this upgrade in OS? Did HTC promise you that it was going to upgraded to win7 when it came out?

WP7 is not new version of WM6.5. Call it Zune Phone and it all becomes clear.
And even if free upgrade is offered sometimes with desktop computers, it clearly is stated as a part of the contract. Here it was not. If you don't like it, you should have not bought it.
I had thought of hanging on to my Touch Pro until WP7 came out. I ended up getting the HD2 and I've never had so much fun with a phone.
We are spoiled rotten in this community. I can get my device to do anything I want it to do and a few things I hadn't even thought of thanks to the hard work, generosity and smarts of the good people who contribute to these forums.
Come on! We don't even know if we will like WP7 yet! Enjoy the amazing device you have. Modify it, flash it, load a thousand apps on it if you like.
By the time WP7 is stable, usable and has a load of good apps, we'll probably be good and ready for an upgrade.
If the HD2 does everything you need in a phone what does it matter if it will run 7 or not? Especially if HTC never promised it would.
If its just for epeen status you're gonna look like gypsy joe anyway come the time trying to run a new OS on an old phone. Either way I am sure some bright spark on XDA will make 7 run on the HD2.
Also remember that WP7 is brand new OS with no applications at all. It will take at least a year till it will start to be usable for basic operation. We don't know how hard it will be to adapt actual applications. It might be minor modifications, it might be totally impossible, and everything would have to be done from the scratch.
Yes .. we all want new better WM .. but WP7 is just not that.
How many more threads are we going to get on the same subject.
WM6.5.5 is NOT being withdrawn and will continue to support the business users. From what i've seen of wm7, its "pants" and not suitable for business use, but thats my opinion.
I find it difficult to beleive that so many of you purchased the phone based on the pretence that it would be upgraded to WM7. At the end of the day, you will get it anyway - albeit not from HTC but from XDA.

you are right but most applications developers stoped developing for wm6.5 and starts to develope for the upcoming wp7 series so it is wm6.5 end (but not in an official way)
reasons why this bull
1 in the box which my htc hd2 was piece of paper saying that this phone would get a upgrade to wm7
2 there footage of wm7 on the htc hd2
3 the fact that ms always denie all rumours about all their products
4 no device has 4 point mutil touch if was the case this would be a big deal for microsoft as apple owns the patents for true mutil touch screens
5 windows specs change all the time and this is true for all software
6 the htc hd2 pro is coming out and professionals would want wm7
a piece of paper may say they will do 7 but maybe the rules changed and they discovered in the full release version they can't run wm7
i'm sure the initial idea was great but reality has deemed the hd2 not suitable for wm7
would a pro want an OS that's not allowing backward compatibility of their "pro" apps? no so maybe they'll stick with 6.5xxxx
have you actually tried wm7 yet? all this fuss and it might turn out to be rubbish then i guess you'll bring another class action against MS to say you want 6.5 back
whether it be Apple/MS/HTC they can't please everyone but to rant about it BEFORE the OS is out is pretty pointless. think logically rather than throw toys from pram please
I think WP7 will be business oriented. Only think they can do better then the others would be exchange synchronization. Otherwise I see no reason why would anybody buy it. And before new apps are done for it, iPhone will have new version, Android will be at 3.0 and another players may show up.

Sorry guys, I couldn't help it
this forum gets dumber by the day.
I'll Stick with 6.5!
Why does anyone want WP7 anyway? My phone works just the way I want it (now, after a few problems initially), it is fast, looks great and makes most other phones look like they were just dug up in an episode of Time Team!
I have just about every app I could want, running beautifully and doing pretty much everything I could ever need. If I was offered WP7 today I would say no! An untried OS with no software support for at least another 6 months (after release) and we don't know how customizable or flexible it will be... I'd be mad to jump ship from 6.5!
When I know what the new OS actually is, when I know I can get all the software I require and that I can make the phone the way I want it and that the OS is something I actually like THEN... I'll have a new device that will have even more bells and whistles and this won't be an issue...

+1 -CLASS ACTION? That is so laughable! End these threads please it just annoying to guess at everything. Wait for the MIX '10 and listen to then as to what they want to say. Until then no more threads about WP7 upgrades on HD2...wahh.wahhh.wahhh...
There goes another 2 minutes of my life. When will I learn....

Where do we go from here?

i've noticed in the last few weeks that new rom releases became more and more alike and basicaly no much novelty lately
chefs use the same packages and almost the same tweaks, meaning the roms are almost similar in performance. what differentiate them is just the looks, but that is a matter of taste and one can soon get bored by a certain look
microsft will probably drop 6.5.x after wm7 will be launched (very soon)
i tried few android roms on my hd2 and i can't say android represents an alternative for me
i assume it will be the same with wm7 even if people will port it to hd, considering the limitations
so, what do you think guys? are we in a dead point?
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
thank you for sharing your opinions!
regards
microsoft has already promised further support for winmo 6.5.x, which is supported by the upcoming release of a 6.5.x industrial phone forth coming. With any luck, we will at least be able to get future ROM bases from them.
As long as WinMO 6.5.x is supported, I will continue using that in conjunction with Artemis ROM. Android is also not my thing and what I've seen from Win7, does not make me happy.
However, I think Artemis ROM is somewhat different to other ROM's
regards, Kuzibri
Winmo isn't just used in phones, you would be amazed at how many non-"phone" devices its used in by industry.
Did you know for example that the Ultra Baggage Reconciliation System uses windows mobile? Thats right, pretty much anywhere in the modern world where you fly from, your bags are scanned into an aircraft/uld using windows mobile!
Many other industries use it as well.... including storage, parcel couriers, mail companies, supermarkets, taxi firms ... the list can go on.
With this kind of user base and licensing, MS won't throw away Winmo quickly!
(MS have (probably) had a lot of financial success with WinMo over the years, its not just a phone!)
edit: i'm into systems integration and industrial automation, I have seen winmo installed myself in these environments and often used the devices.
You might consider SPB Mobile Shell 5.0 when it's available if you fancy a change..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNO7lL7g6pc&feature=player_embedded
http://spb.com/press/pressreleases/...-shell-5.0-for-manufactures-and-carriers.html
I'm hoping, with the birth of Co0kie's mod 2.0, that we may see a surge in ROMs.
I agree that for the last six months, most released ROMs have been "close to stock", which is fine, but there seems a limit on what tweaks can be made, and visually most are very similar.
But now I'm really hoping for loads of Theme-packs, novel uses of the homepage, new widgets, etc. I'm hoping that once 2.0 is finalised, these forums are going to explode!!
So far tho, there's just been some wallpapers, the "fore-skin" , and a few icon-packs. But hopefully stuff is brewing...
i think we are pretty much in a dead point. MS has probably promised to further support MS 6.x, but do you honestly think that that would be the case once WM 7 is out? I think the whole WM team is fully concentrated on the launch of WM7 and will be busy with further upgrades. i might be wrong but i don't expect anything from MS. frankly saying i feel that MS does not give a monkey's about WM 6.x users. If they did, they could offer a free upgrade of WM7 to HD2 owners. I know you will think about the 5 physical buttons, the new kernel and etc, but if the company really cared, that upgrade would not be a problem taking into consideration HD2's specs. We all bash Apple for whatever reasons, but you have to give credit to them for supporting even outdated iphone 3g with new iOS updates.
I understand MS when they require all phones to have certain specs, buttons etc.
The idea being that WP7 updates will work on all certified phones regardless of OEM, phone model, etc.
Consider this system continuing into the future, Windows Phone 8, 9 and so on - and the upgrade path will always be there...
Catering for other models doesn't make sense. That's what great communities like XDA are for.
(Having said that - I don't even have an HD2. I'm waiting to test WP7 before I decide if it's for me. If it isn't, I'll pick up a now cheaper HD2. That's why I'm watching these forums now - to see how fresh the HD2 options are and if you HD2 owners are still happy with your HD2's. Also, I've bought many WM6.5 apps in the past and it would be a shame to not be able to use them still on a nicer and larger model.)
I for one love the idea of being able to have both win mobile and android on the same phone just a boot away. It is the sole reason I just bought a HD2. I would love to see a version of Co0kie's mod 2.0 on the HD2 Android side as well. I'm a huge Android fan but the Sense UI on the win mobile HD2 looks much tighter and intergrated than it does on the Desire, Desire HD, or EVO. Icons scattered around 3, 5, or 7 screens is an eye sore in my opinion. If you think about it with every new release from HTC the HTC Android phones are starting to look more and more like the HD2's win mobile Sense UI version. Developers, here is a challenge. Make the Android side of the Hd2 look like the win mobile Sense UI side. The future of android will be widgets on the Screens and apps hidden away for use when needed until they can be intergrated into a far more attracted and collabrative widget. If you looks at the widgets that come with Launcher pro plus it is clears that they know this as well .

gotta disagree. There are too many enteprise type devices out there using winmo for it to just go away. As long as they are pushing 6.5.x as the enterprise base, then we will get driver updates, new bases to build on. We might not see anymore sense updates, but it's not getting completely abandoned yet.

[Q] WM6.5 on HD7

just an idea - if there is no "backward compability" for WM6,5 applications on WP7, then - from technical point of view - if anyone can install/move/copy the whole WM6,5 from HTC HD/HD2 to HTC HD7 or any of WP7 phones? I mean, are there any "hardwarish objections" for such operation?
The incompatibility issues alone and work required to do this would be immense
Also posted in wrong forum. All queries should be directed to General Forum which I've now moved it to
This is kinda funny, but I would love to see older OS(WM 6.1/6.5) on newer phones.
Why do we have to move to Windows Phone OS? We’re going from "pocket PC's" to "Smart Phones". That is a step backwards. I’ve got my HTC diamond 2 running perfect just want a faster phone, with HD Video cam. When I had a Samsung Omnia, I fixed all its problems by installing a moded HTC WM6.5 rom, I want a new HTC now, but hate WP7! I got into Xda's cos you can make um run how you want, WP7 is like why I hate the IPhone. I would love to get the HTC 7 Pro if I can just keep the OS I’m using on my HTC Diamond 2, its perfect now. I can’t be the only one that feels, windows phone is just windows mobile Basic.
Pleases give us our full OS back! or how's this. A choice of OS
Windows Phone X.X User
and
Windows Mobile X.X Pro
Does that make it less confusing? I really do want to know of a good 6.5 rom for the HD7 or 7 Pro are available. Thank you
P.s. what are non-phone PDA's going to run on? Is wm6.5 the last OS ever?
Windows phone 7 is a sh*t transition from windows mobile to full fledged operating system like Windows 7. WP7 sucks big time, no productivity for me.
It is all true... I'm totaly disapointed with my HT7 because of the WP7..
I need WM6.5 or at last Android on it...
Some one help us!!!
There are no devs to do this. They lack time, knowledge, drivers, blah blah.
We give them money, they won't do a sh**
Simply said, there is no community like it was few years ago. Shame.
that might be true, but nobody forced you to buy a device with an os, that you don't like, if you simply wanted to give different OSs a try, your best choice would have been a HD2, which handles wm6.5, 6.5.x, android, wp7, ubuntu, windows 95, 98 and meego. that way, if you are unsatisfied with either OS, you still have plenty of others to give a try.
I'm not a programmer, so I’m sorry if this is impossible for something I’ve not see. But couldn't someone make a rom file that you copy directly onto the inbuilt SD micro card. Of course this will mean hard resetting the phone it will install from the inbuilt Rom copy of WP7. But you just pop the card in a pc, maybe partition it 512MB program storage. And the other 14.5MB storage card (after lost formatting space.) I though the HD2 and HD7 are almost the same Xda device. Please PDA WinMobo OS's cant die! It does the most
All I want is Smartphone’s that work how I want, not how I’m told to use um.
Losing this is stepping back in time.

Enabling WM6.5 on HD7
Hi Guys,
I have been a PDA user and in particular a a windows mobile user for 7-8 years now. I am a total fan of modified ROMs and hats off to all those developers who have been developing modified ROMs on many various devices for many years now, I extend my appreciation and gratitude now. I have also been an xda-developers member for many years now, and have read many many posts and forum topics, so please disregard the post count as I didn't need to post in many cases.
I recently graduated; though I am a communications engineering graduate I did do embedded systems in my last year. Having said that, I am now in a position to start playing around with such devices and possibly do some development work.
I, like the people on this thread have mentioned, do not like WP7, the the fact that you cannot directly sync with outlook, and even worse, HD7 Pro has hardware keyboard that is completely useless and WP7 doesn't even go in to landscape mode unless typing up messages.
On the other hand, even though I appreciate Android, I do not like it either for various reasons I'd rather not delve in to. I am a fan of hardware keyboards, therefore I also had in my mind the possibility of porting WM6.5 to Desire Z though I have not even researched the feasibility of it yet.
Therefore, I announce to my fellow xda-developers.com users and readers of my intentions to begin work on porting WM6.5 to HD7. Though I do not have any experience or knowledge on the venture. The start will be a slow process and request the patience of everyone.
Having said that I would need a mentor when I run in to problems and when I need help. I would appreciate it if one of the more experienced developers here could express their willingness to help when needed I would be really grateful.
Having said that, those with experience, is there a good link you could give me where I could start reading up on what I need to learn about the device and the OS in question?
I presume I would need to know the specific system components of the HD7 and HD2, what components are identical, similar and different? I believe that the architecture is similar if not identical? Thanks.

Hi all, im new here to start join this site, because i just bought HTC HD2 started to use wm6.5, this site lot of information help me to choose the collect phone model before i buy it, before i was thinking of which OS is the best & use full for me, WM6.5? WP7? or Android? i need to choose the OS can support GMXT GPS its important for me travel lot, both of them WP7 & Android cant make it, so i choose HD2, i was bought 3 days ago in Vietnam HCMC, try to find best price in town, almost every sold out! get from website information for used HD2, almost sold out too, until 7th shop i get it, used but look new but is T mobile HD2, USD370 deal..
WP7 is a god send of an OS, I still use my WM oh my HD and ill come to that in a sec, but WP7 is actually very good, you do need to work with it for a while, but once you get used to it its amazing.
Now, WM 6.x is a beast of an OS, there is nothing out there quite like it, I believe in the next installment of MAGLDR they are looking to allow WM to be installed via magldr, this may open the way to allow SD/RAM builds of WM to run on a HD2 meaning, WP7, WM6.5 and android could all potentially be bootable at the same time
The differences between the HD2 and the HD7 are notable, its not a straight copy, unfortunately there is a big lack of intrest in WM so i would keep your eyes on android coming to the HD7, that will use something similar to MAGLDR and if thats the case you may find WM is installable as well.
DOnt hold your breath tho, we've been waiting for a new MAGLDR version for several months now and as i said, there are differences so there may well be serious driver related issues, which ironically is the stumbling block of WM! Had HTC and QC not shafted us with no driver support for the WM6.5 OS then it would actually be a modern day OS contender.

I know just being polite, someone asks, why not answer, the thread is after all already here
I have changed from a Windows Phone hater, to a Lover. Still think Win Mobile was the most advanced mobile OS ever, but WP is fast getting it all back :good:

I now really have to say, I take back what I said. I originally posted on here saying I hated WP7 and wanted to flash to WM6.5. but since, just b4 Mango. I changed my mind. And have loved being along for the ride towards the superphones WP8. Miss MyMobiler and would be nice if you could run WM6.5 in a virtual environment on an unlocked device. Then I could still play with what I suppose are now legacy apps or .cab's as we used to know um. phone and sms wouldn't need to be in the V-OS rom as WM wasn't originally made for it just drop um. And V-drives would just appear as the app size as far as wp7 thinks just a dream/idea. I know that wouldn't be easy. but if anyone fancied the challenge advantage is it would work on all WP7> handsets
Windows Phone 7.5 is good now. If you tried it at the beginning and was thinking it was the windows iPhone. Thank god it's not!! It is diff to WM6.x but worth getting used to

I would still like to see wm6.5 ported over along with wp8 since technically we have an sd card and we can have nfc sim cards.
There is a windows mobile emulator to wp7

and here is one that maybe can be ported: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411154

What is your opinion about my mind & some Q

Hi!
i'll buy HD2, this is because experience WP7.
The reason for this strange thinking, was after the announcement of the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia.
I enjoy not wm and also stopped to buy Nokia phones, But what made me re-thinking is wonderful Nokia N900 running Maemo, After the powers given by Microsoft to Nokia, Imagine the improvements to the WP7.But my fear I do not like this system, so i'll try it in HD2. if i like it i will buy nokia's WP phone. if i don't i will sell it.
What do you think . Is my thinking correct ?

Questions:
-Any problems with android and WP7 on HD2 ?
-There are two versions of HD2 European and U.S. & the second is better than the first in the rom and the ram. Do the European have a negative impact on WP7.
sry for my bad language
The only person who can take a final decision is you.
WP7 is a totally new approach, inspired by iOS, and not as open as Windows Mobile or Android.
In my personal opinion, HD2, as of today, is quite an economic way to go, you can actually run 3 platforms without big flaws: WinMo, WP7, and Android. None of those makes big problems, while WP7 feels as "native" on HD2 like on any "official" WP7 device.
If you are more into tweaking and modding, WinMo and Android will remain your favorites, maybe some other OS´s in the future, who knows. I own my HD2 since the day it was available in my country, never had any problems, and I flashed probably 50 or even more times. Currently, I run WP7 because I got tired of all the modding and tweaking, and I like the flawless operation of WP7. Sometimes I go back to my "fallback" WinMo ROM for eye candy.
If you´re not sure what to do, why don´t you try to get a hand on some devices to compare the platforms. Keep in mind that an HD2 runs several OS´s, that is definitely unique. It might be worth to give it a try if you´ve got the funds. And as soon as Nokia will be ready, the other manufacturers will have new generation devices on the market, too.
If you don't mind doing work then get HD2 and trust me when I say this Leo is the most versatile device in terms of development. I got Leo1024 months before it was officially out in TMoUS till the day was stolen not once I had issue. If you want to stick with WM6.5.X over WM7 you will be better of as base 29XXX super stable and fast. If you want Android then select nandroid over ram/sd version as it's more maintained. But in the end its all up to you as you have to understand Leo is 2years old device yet it still kicks punch as it made industry standard regardless of POS.Evo long before it was even stolen from us
